I went in for a simple oil change at Big O Tires in Petaluma .The original quote I received was $70. Later, I got a call from the shop saying my spark plugs should be changed next time I came in, and that my car would be ready in about 45 minutes. When I arrived, I waited a few minutes before going to the counter--only to be told I owed $600. I was shocked and asked what for. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The employee claimed that during that same phone call, he had told me my brakes needed to be replaced and that I had approved the work. That never happened. The brakes were never even mentioned during the call.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] They went ahead and changed my brakes without my knowledge or consent, and I never signed anything authorizing the additional work. After I pushed back, they agreed to take half off the brake charges, but the whole situation felt extremely shady and dishonest. I would not recommend going to this location. If I could give zero stars, I would. I brought my truck into Big O Tires to get an alignment and deal with the wheel locks. I know my wheel lock key was in the glove box, but they claimed they couldn't find it. Instead of making an effort to help locate it, they suggested extracting the locks. I agreed to the extraction, but they never disclosed the cost until I saw the invoice when picking up my truck. They charged me $65 for the extraction without prior notice and added $25 for new lug nuts I never approved. [[HIGHLIGHT]]To make matters worse, the whole reason I brought my truck in was for an alignment. They didn't call me at any point to tell me they couldn't perform it. Instead, I found out when I picked up the truck and read the invoice that said "unable to perform alignment" due to "play in the pitman and idler arm." No call, no courtesy explanation--just a surprise on the paperwork.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] To top it off, they quoted me an absurd price to replace those parts. This whole experience felt shady and like a blatant attempt to upcharge me without proper communication or approval. If you value transparency, honesty, and good customer service, go elsewhere. I've used Big O Tire a few times in the past and working with them has always been simple and easy. It's been a few years since I've gotten tires from them and it's mainly because I don't go through tires that fast as I don't commute to Berkeley anymore. Recently Chad had come into my work and I had made a comment that I needed to contact their business to get a price quote for 4 new tires for my SUV and specifically for Michelin tires. He asked the make and model of my vehicle and within minutes of him returning back to Big O Tires I received a phone call from him with the cost for 4 new tires which included mounting, disposal of the old tires and alignment if needed. Of course, living in Petaluma an alignment was a given. He also mentioned that the tires weren't in their store but was only a day or 2 away. Two weeks later I called up to have Chad order the tires and schedule an appointment for Saturday 09/04/21 and mentioned I would drop off the vehicle the day before. A few days later I received a call that the tires were in so I decided to drop my car off on Friday the 3rd during my lunch time. Chad was out for lunch and Randy checked in the car and said he didn't see why they couldn't get the car done by the time they closed at 5:00pm but would have Chad call when he returns. He did call and confirmed that it would be done before 5:00pm. I arrived just before 5:00pm and my car was completely done and all I had to do was go in, go over the pricing, how bad the car was out of alignment (big thanks to the City of Petaluma for the alignment issues) and pay. I have been going to the BIG O TIRES in Petaluma for at least 35 years. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The last time I went for a TIRE ROTATION, I dropped our car off early like they told me to when I called, they told me the car would be ready no later than 5: 00 o'clock, me and my wife went to pick our car around 5: o'clock[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. [[HIGHLIGHT]]As we were waiting for someone to help us for a LONG TIME! we noticed that they were closing the shop up.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]I asked the tall guy with the shaved head what was going on and why our car wasn't ready after dropping it off early in the day. I told him that I was TOLD it would be ready by 5:00 o'clock! He looked at me with a DIRTY LOOK and responded by throwing his pen on the counter and ! we'll DO IT![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Anyway, we took our car to Big O today to have a flat fixed and tire ROTATION that is FREE under the new tire warranty. My wife drove the car home while I was doing the paperwork inside. When I got home, I checked the tires to make sure they rotated them. And sure enough, they didn't rotate them. I removed the front left air nozzle before I brought our car to Big O to make sure they rotated them. [[HIGHLIGHT]]When I called back to tell them about it, the guy on the phone said, "OH! there isn't anything on the paperwork about a tire rotation! Upon starting our cars my wife and I noticed tire warning lights - we both went to Big O Tires for a air checks - upon arriving both Josh, operations manager, and Pedro, service advisor, were very attentive to our situation - Erik, technician, was also friendly and helpful while inspecting and correcting our tire pressure - what is amazing they were all super busy at the time and still took the time to help us - they all worked liked a 'well oil machine" - we will go back in the future for sure when we have to replace our tires or similar repair situations ! read more

I never leave reviews but I had such a negative situation occur I feel like I must to warn other people. Went in for routine maitenance (with no lights on or anything) on a new car I just bought. Spent 900$ on making things better, or so I thought. In the job they tweaked something and so when I left the lot it wasn't 3 minutes later until the engine light turned on. I went back for it to be "fixed", but within 24 hours the engine light was on again. This pattern went on a few more times (them "fixing it" only for the same light to be activated within a few days). Only for me to lose hope and try and get this issue resolved by another Big O because I trusted I was covered by the warranty. But when that location called the original mechanics they denied it had to do with their work, leaving me corned to either keep trying with them or just cut my losses and try somewhere else. I had one final attempt with them trying to fix the issue they caused and as expected the engine light turned on within a couple days. For having no outstanding issues, my car left worse off than it came. I am still trying to deal with the same issue they caused me in the beginning of summer, and I deeply regret the decision of ever getting serviced by them in the first place. read more

I came into this location with a flat tire, all of my tires were due for a replacement and they changed all four. They recommended me a size that wasn't correct for my car and I told them I really wanted my particular size. They continued with the wrong size which has caused a multitude of problems for my car. Still being at work I ask if they could be ready by the weekend (a full two days later.) Showed up on Saturday, the tires were not there as promised by the business[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]], they also notified me that the warranty they gave me didn't apply to the replacements they were giving me because they were a different brand of tires. This alone is completely unprofessional and scummy, I have now had to wait over a week for this replacement, now have to take the time and money to replace the harm this business has caused to my car, and I'm out more than $500. My family and I have been going to Big O for my whole life, and I have to say after this display of overpriced service, low quality product, and a lackluster care about quality, I will never be coming back to this location or any that carry this name. read more

I was on the coast in my motorhome, and I got a flat tire, I called big O the day before and spoke to someone and he told me to bring it in the following day. I have duelies on my motorhome, so I drove slowly limping into Petaluma with one of my friends in his motorhome behind me. I pulled into the parking lot as did, my friend and one of the employees. An older gentleman with a shaved head became irate and came out yelling at us, telling us that he had two tow trucks on the way and what was I doing. And between his yelling, I tried to explain That I needed a new tire or valve stems and then I talk to somebody the day before. he still acted angry. I have no idea why. I walked into the office and stood at the counter in front of him. He said it would be a he finished the paperwork for another customer and I watched him walk out into the garage end of the parking lot and off the property without saying a word to me. The other employees asked if I was being helped and I said I thought I was but I think he left and they said yeah he went to lunch and he did not even say a word. The guy was a real jerk and I did nothing to deserve that. Fortunately, Steve was there, he said he would take care of the tires. They got me in and out of there quickly and well priced and I was very happy when I left. If you are looking for a local Petaluma shop that will get the job done look no further. Yes, Big O will get the job done... but you may be in for more than you bargain for. America's Tire in Rohnert Park quoted me a lower price, but I decided to take it to a place in town which was easier cfor me to drop off and pick up my truck. Man do I wish I would have gone there instead. Tire pressure was off (just a bit) and I ended up fixing it at a gas station. Not the end of the world. But the grease on my driver seat and a dent in my tailgate really aren't what I want after paying a company for a service. I would not recommend this shop anymore. Call around, you can find a better deal at a place that won't damage your vehicle. read more

Took my car into the shop for new tires, oil change, and alignment, which I made the online appointment 2 weeks prior. I dropped off the car when they opened and left. 6 hours later, I get a call informing me oil change was done but the truck with my tires on it was running late leaving me with a decision of having to buy different tires or come back another day. Not happy about this but went with a different tire. Picked up car at closing and was rushed out the door. As my wife (I was in a separate car) drove back home on the freeway, the engine compartment protection plate underneath the car came half way off and was dragging about a half mile before she could pull off the freeway from oncoming Friday commute traffic. Big O was closed at this point. My wife contacted AAA and CHP as the road situation was a bit dangerous. After waiting a couple of hours for AAA, they arrived and cut off the plate and we proceeded home. I contacted the Big O shop (Josh) next day, explained the situation with him. He stated he would order another protection plate to bring in the car the following Friday to have it installed. Brought the car in as expected, no Josh, nobody knew anything about the situation and or part and my work order had no notations to the incident. I was advised to call Josh the next day, which I did but I was unable to bring in the car due to a previous appointment. Was advised to bring the car in the following Friday, which I did. They put the plate on and I left. Then, almost at the same freeway spot the WHOLE PLATE CAME COMPLETELY OFF and almost caused an accident with the car in the left lane next to me! Contacted Josh again, told him the situation and he said to bring the car back. They still had the NEW PLATE there! The ORIGINAL DAMAGED ONE (Which I had brought back to show them) WAS PUT BACK ON!! When I got to the shop I asked "Why did they put the damaged one back on", Josh replaced "I don't know, that's what we're trying to find out?" Oh yeah, as a side note, 2 days after the tires were put on, my LOW TIRE PRESSURES indicators came on my dash! They were not filled properly when put on. I have been coming to Big O for over 35 years in different locations, and I have never experienced any incomitance situation as I have in this particular store! As such and the from the traumatic experience it placed upon my wife, I will never come back. A memo has been sent to corporate detailing this incident. Buyers beware! read more

My daughter-in-law had a serious engine issue on her KIA Sportage. She just happened to be down the street from this Big O location and dropped it off for them to diagnose. Josh and his team went above and beyond to diagnose the problem for her, and actually advised us about an engine recall that we were not aware of regarding her vehicle. Josh gave us some very helpful information so we could get the problem resolved with KIA and even stored her vehicle at no charge for a couple of days until we could get it towed to a dealership. You know I've never had a problem here & I'd take the bad reviews with a grain of salt, chalk at least one of them up to entitlement, they're mechanics not miracle workers but, they've always been as accommodating as humanely possible in my experience. They've patched me up & gotten me back in action numerous times, most recently a bad apple battery that was under warranty, I wasn't sure if it was my starter or what, but they fit me in and fixed me up, topped up my fluids complimentary, and everyone I spoke or have ever dealt with here has been totally cool, no problems whatsoever. I do shop around sometimes just based on where I happen to be what's most convenient for me, and I have before gotten second opinions, bc even honorable mechanics can make mistakes. For example another local family owned garage in town that's highly regarded and I have been serviced at before misdiagnosed one past issue as a drive train tensioner, cost me a day of work it was in the shop all day, at least they didn't charge me bc after all that, they discovered they were wrong lol and it was the alternator which Big O ended up replacing just bc they were able to get me in. Other times, everyone's professional diagnosis lined up, so.... I really believe & find everyone to be professional and honorable here, whether I go to this Big I location, or Sebastopol, or Out West garage. They all have good mechanics, good teams, and there's really no need to worry about trusting any of them with your vehicle. I drive Uber on the side, have for many years, so just like anyone really, it is super important for me to stay on top of my maintenance and stay in good working order, and these guys have always given me good advice on what I might need to do next, and never been impatient with me taking full advantage and picking their brains whenever I come in. I had a complicated suspension problem with my VW Jetta and Big O did a great job diagnosing and repairing. I asked a bald guy at counter if they offered any veterans discounts and he went into a diatribe about he was already the lowest price on tires in area and he would go out of business if he offered any better pricing. No need for the drama, just politely tell me you don't offer a discount to vets. Also this guy and other employees were rude on more than one occasion when phoned store and I inquired about why my low pressure tire sensor light was on after they worked on my vehicle. Anyhow I instead went to America's Tire in Rohnert Park, their prices for a set of tires was cheaper, they offered a veteran discount, the staff was friendly, and the waiting area is spacious and clean vs the dumpy waiting area at Big O. read more

My car developed a wobble when driving over 35 mph. Took it in because I had purchased my tires through Big O. They took a looked and balanced them, but the wobble was still present. Took it back and was told a rim was bent, so I purchased new rims and had Big O install them. The wobble was still present. Took it back and they said the CV axles we're out of balance, so I had them replace them. The car still wobbled. Took it back and they said it was something other than the tires (still under Big O warranty BTW). Finally, after dealing with the wobble for nearly 6 months I took the car to American Tires. They said the tires were cupped. I decided to replace them and guess what?!?! NO MORE WOBBLE!!! Big O Petaluma is a terrible shop that I will never return to. Good guys, but not honest at all in my experience. read more
