i went in yesterday to get some new tires mounted on my truck and my dad goes here every time to get tires installed so i figured i would too, probably will not be back i have no complaints about most the people there and the service, but when i get home after getting the tires mounted i look in the bed and there is just a pile of oil with big metal chunks just sitting in my bed and it was dripping down off my rear bumper so i thought it was from the oil pan i have back there full of water but ive been driving the truck around for weeks with it in there and it has not leaked once not even a drip and whoever took my truck back to the back needs their license took i saw the whole body roll while i was sitting inside and i could only see the top of the truck i dont know if dude was having a bad day or something but I'm not gonna sit here and let someone drive MY truck like that, thats super disrespectful and the fact that no one said anything about the oil just sitting in there I'm honestly disappointed I'm giving 2 stars because i dont think they deserve 1 they always do my dad right but i will not be back. And they did not reset my tire light which i can not do because you have to have an actual tool for it. read more

I'd give them no stars if I could!!! Spent $1200 on tires in August and had 2 tire pressure sensors changed. Not soon after THE SAME tire sensor warnings came on. I took it to them today and they tried telling me the replaced the driver's side! I lost my temper! I knew they would pull that! I should have just started with Discount Tire! Big O replaced ONE back one to "make you happy!" I drove straight to Discount Tire and they (even with how busy they are on a Saturday morning) pulled my car right in, checked my tire pressure, which Big O had WAY too high and checked all my sensors. NEVER EVER AGAIN WILL I GO BACK TO BIG O!!! read more

Tevin and Brandon went above and beyond to make us and our 3 dogs comfortable in the waiting room while they worked all afternoon trying to locate parts and the staff worked on our van. I wanted to take a moment to show appreciation to the exceptional service that was received today by Brandon at the Urbandale store location. I was in the area and my tire pressure light came on, I became concerned and looked over only to see the Big O Tires location. I noticed the sliding door open and pulled in hoping someone could help me with the tire and to ensure I didn't have a total flat. Brandon greeted me and advised that he had just turned the compressor off but was willing to power the air gauge back up to help me out. As he was doing that, I looked up the hours to see they had closed a while ago so was very grateful for his willingness to even help me considering they were closed. He checked all tires, even noticed the sprocket was loose and tightened them for me as well as explained what he was doing and why. I was truly grateful for his time, and due diligence. So I called them to go in for a tire rotation. I purchased 5 year rotation and alignment policy from National tire and battery, and on the agreement it says that all big o locations will honor this warranty. The man in the phone told me since October, no big O locations in the Des Moines area will honor this claim. This turned out to be bogus. I drove over to the Ankeny location and they honored the warranty. I also called corporate and they said all big o locations are obligated to honor the NTB protection plan. No idea what's going on in Urbandale, do yourself a favor and avoid these guys, make the trip to Ankeny. read more

Took my car in to have new tires put on, which I already had. Easy enough, staff was friendly. The problem was the job they did. They ruined my rims--nicks, scratches and broken chrome pieces on each one. If you have nice rims that you don't want ruined, keep looking. The lack of care on mine ruined my day. read more

Zero stars. 1. They never had any idea who we were or what we were doing there even with appointments made. Their computer system must be terrible. 2. They only had their brand of tires in stock, and they had to order them. Two weeks later, we finally call to see what the heck is going on, and they once again had no idea who we were or why we were calling. And said, "oh the tires probably came in the day before yesterday." 3. They have two jobs: tires and alignment. They messed up the alignment. The steering wheel had to be held crooked to drive straight. 4. We noticed they BROKE A HUBCAP and didn't tell us. 5. We called to tell them the alignment was off and that they broke a hubcap. Their response: "those are just brittle, hard plastic anyway." Umm, okay, but you still broke it. 6. They fixed the alignment, but they did nothing about the hubcap. NEVER AGAIN. I feel forever grateful to Jack & Jimmy at this location! I was in town from Mpls all week for work and the morning I needed to head back home I had a warning from my car that I was getting a flat. I called several tire places and they could not fit me in until the end of the day. And I had to get going for a client appt in Ames & Mpls. I went into this Big O Tires location. I told them about my circumstances and they got my car in the shop right away!! Turned out I needed a new tire, but didn't have the time to wait for one to arrive. So I was just going to drive home and pull over every hour and fill my tire with air, but instead they patched the leak and got me on the road, all under 30 minutes!!! And they didn't even charge me!! They knew I was in a time crunch and worked quickly to get me on the road and I am so appreciative of their way above and beyond customer service. And for Jimmy, who actually fixed the tire, which was a challenge as leak was on the outside rim. I am now a lifelong fan of this Big O Tires! read more

As with the Big O store in Ankeny they were immediately condescending to me about my car and how much I "didn't know" about it. The sales guy then comes out of the back (I wish I could remember his name) and proceeds to call me "boss" and make fun of what I'm wearing. I then tell him that of course he must be a badass because he's a mechanic. I am not sure if these guys just feel like they need to belittle you because maybe us regular people don't know as much about cars? But I will never again step foot into a Big O tire store. read more

I've brought all 4 of my vehicles to this Big O location for the last 8 years. In the last year, I have been upsold on unnecessary repairs every visit. First it was minor, then I took my wife's car for an oil change, and walked away from a $1200 quote for rear shocks and brakes, that the actual dealer shop said was unnecessary. Made an appointment 12 days ago for an oil change and dropped off my vehicle at 900 AM and was told it wouldn't be done till 3:00-4:00PM. "Gentleman" at the counter was an ass, and dismissive. So I'll start out this review by saying the staff is really nice, very friendly, eager to please. Unfortunately that's not enough to run a business. Leland and Jason are very unorganized, they seem to not remember anything about the vehicles serviced etc. on top of that, they just can't get the repairs done right. I gave them three opportunities, it was just a hassle, sat around for a hour when was told the car was done over phone... and when they were done, the car was still having same problems. On top of that, there was a cleanliness issue not only for their employees but them too. They insinuated they were managers, if they were, yikes. They looked like dirty greasy unkept homeless folk. We stopped in to Big O the other night, 30 minutes before they closed due to a leaking tire. My tires were purchased at Big O, so flat repair is free, and I definitely wanted to take advantage of that offer. Since we were arriving within 30 minutes of closing, we asked if we should make an appt for the next day. They said that they would take care of it yet that night, and we appreciated that. Because of a few lingering items with a previous customer, they ended up not getting to our car until about 5:55 - 5 minutes before closing. And they stayed at least 20-30 minutes late to get the tire patched. In the meantime a few customers kept coming in, even after 6:00, to ask for help or general questions. I could tell that the workers had worked a long day, and one had mentioned earlier about them being short staffed that day, but they were so polite to everyone and didn't turn anyone away. I would not recommend this place to anybody. I bought four brand new tires which costed about $700 and not even one month later I'm driving on a doughnut now. The reason is due to them breaking my tpms sensor and saying they won't fix it without charge. I'm not a car person at all but I would try anywhere else before them. I have made multiple trips in to get other thongs fixed. I only want my car to work and now it's worse than before I took it in to that place. read more

This place is very honest and has wonderful employees. I used to get oil changes and the such from my dealer until about 36,000 miles when they said I needed new brakes. Honda quoted me around $800 to do all 4 but I opted to get a second opinion. I went into Big O and asked for a quote. They drove my car in and came back out quickly and said, "who told you that you need new brakes?" I responded with my Honda dealer. They said, you have 7mm left (you replace at 2-3mm) and most definitely do not need new brakes. The mechanic also mentioned that they unfortunately see this very often from dealerships. On top of everything they said that it would be no charge. You can't beat their honest service. They have my business from now on! read more

I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy! Save your money and go to Earls tire down the street. I went to big o tire place about 2-3 weeks and they damaged my wheel in installing process and they keep saying owner Jeff will call me to resolve the issue but nothing has happened. I've sent multiple texts and left voicemails for the manager but no respond. Wheel replacement is $650 so save yourself headaches and don't go here. Staff is rude and needs training. I would never go here again nor will any of my relatives or friends! read more

I've had nothing but problems with this business. I wanted an alignment and tire rotation yesterday. Leland called me demanding that I put on new tires and said he couldn't allow the car to leave without new tires. After charging me $300, they released the car back to me. I quickly noticed there was a knocking sound when I drove it. The front wheel bearing was so damaged, it caused my car to shake and make noise worsr than when I brought it in to the shop. When I told Leland about it, he denied any responsibility for the problem. He had an attitude to start out sith yesterday and it carried to today. Not very professional service. He didn't even offer to fix the problem. I will tell everyone I know about the horrible service at Big O Tires. read more

Decent work from halfway decent people, but they could use a lesson or two in paying attention to when vehicles are finished and also keeping their equipment maintained. My vehicle sat for an hour with work finished before I finally asked what was taking them so long. I allowed the extra hour as a buffer in case they got bogged down. Nope, it had been ready for that hour, and they never bothered telling me, despite the fact that I was sitting in their lobby for the duration of the service on my vehicle. The guy working said he called me but I didn't answer...hmm...I was there the entire time, no missed phone call, no voicemail, and I checked to make sure the number they had was correct. After 100 miles, they ask that you return for a re-torque. I returned after this and their equipment to re-torque was broken. So, do their normal tools that they use to install tires not work for a re-torque?! I'm not particularly impressed with the caliber of service nor their respect for my time and the distance it takes to get to their shop only tonne told that they can't complete the re-torque that they asked me to return for. read more

Terrible customer service....Brought my car in for a simple oil change and tire rotation. They only moved one tire. Probably just a mistake and not intentional so I was not bothered by that. But brought the car back and guy at counter basically calls me a liar. All he needed to do was take 5 minutes and move the other tire but would not. Also very obnoxious-calls people "boss".....so annoying. I asked for a partial refund but so far none offered......obviously will never come back here. read more

I purchased 4 tires from Big O in Urbandale, IA, on 12/16/2009. During November and December of 2012, I have had 4 flat tires due to "bead leaks." Twice, the problem happened on the same tire within two weeks of Big O completing a "repair." It seems that the installation practices at this store are extremely unreliable. I have an 18 month old daughter, and dependable tires and tire installation are critical for my family's safety, especially in the Iowa winter. I definitely don't recommend Big O unless low price is your only factor in making a decision. read more

This was my first time to a BIG O (Urbandale, IA), to get oil changes on 2 cars. On the first car, the store manager insisted that the car desperately needed new brakes and rotors. When I told him they were new in August, he danced around it, but told me he stood by that assessment. Wasted my time taking it to the dealer who assured me that the brakes are in good shape. On the second car, my truck, I drove away and immediately felt a shimmy from the front. I got home, drove it again and it became worse. Called. The manager asked me to bring it back in. I had my wife take it in the next morning. She said it became so bad that she thought the wheels were going to fall off. Turns out, they didn't tighten the lug nuts. My wife and two small sons were riding, ON THE INTERSTATE, with a wheel that could've failed at anytime! In all, 2 oil changes resulted in 4 hours of wasted time and 4 wasted trips. Not to mention putting my family is real danger. Manager offered no no apologies. He didn't offer a refund or anything to recognize the errors, mistakes, and lost time. As he wasted more of my time, other customers in the waiting room were complaining all around me .... 2 hours waiting for an oil change, showing up at appointment times that were not honored, and work that was done incorrectly. Dishonest and incompetent. My recommendation to EVERYONE .... stay FAR away. read more

The worst retail experience I have ever ever had. First they gave us a bad tire, it had a bulge in the side wall. Super unsafe to drive on. The car shook so bad, you couldn't go over 30 mph. After two weeks of them saying it will be in tomorrow they finally had to put a tire on that was the wrong size, while we waited and waited and waited for over two months for tomorrow to come again to get the correct size tire. All this while my son driving unsafe. Finally the district manager, Galen, calls us, he is sorry and wants to make it right, he says He found a tire and he told us the date it would be in. He told us he was going to give my son his money back, which made sense, they should of. After we finally got the right tire put on, I called the district manager to let him know my son would be stopping in to get his refund. I was talked to so terribly, I cannot even repeat here all the things he said to me. He called me a liar. He asked if I just went around town and tried to get things for free. He said he had no record of my sons transaction, he said there was no proof my son had ever paid for anything. He said there was no invoice, there is one, and I have my copy. He denied that they put a bad tire on in the first place! He said that never happened and I was a liar. He said he never promised the money back, but he did. This is the district manager! Thee most horrible experience ever. I am still in shock from it. read more
