I randomly stopped by Big Papi's, I was visiting the area from Maryland and wanted something good to eat. I searched and found this spot had good reviews. Big Papi's believes in keeping things real and fresh by incorporating high-quality ingredients and bold flavors. The place was very clean and has a tables to dine in as well. I ordered the Barria tacos and they were so good, comparable to food I eat in the DMV area. I loved the red spicy sauce that comes on the side, the tacos were cheesy and the meat was so tender. It's so Damn good I've had at least one meal a day there...if you put that fish taco on your head... your tongue would beat your brains out to get to it. Finally got my husband to try a new place. What a disappointment. Wednesday evening 6 pm & they were out of stock for fries, chips & salsa & Tinga chicken tacos. But we watched fries get cooked & chips & salsa go out the door. What?? Steak tacos have no flavor & my 2nd choice for tacos was grilled chicken tacos. 9 bites & $14 later, I am so unsatisfied. Wanted to really like this place but the constant bad service is what ultimately drives me away. The food was great even tho every time I order the birria consome tacos I don't get any consome, seems to be a common occurrence on multiple visits now. I asked for more sauces as my family loves spice the staff was reluctant to give me two extra small sauces for a huge family order even after I said I'll pay for as many as I was asking for. 4 stars for food, minus 2 for service. We wanted something different that we couldn't get in Martinsburg. Luckily Big Papi's showed up on our google map search. I would say the ambiance is a taco truck that is in a building. We were treated warmly by the staff and they asked if we needed any help ordering at the self help kiosk. I ordered barilla tacos and they were exceptional. My wife had carne asada also and said that it was also delicious. The only fault would be some people might not like having to use a kiosk to order. However, the menu was simple and well laid out. This is a very small store, sharing a building with a Papa John's, and clearly designed to cater primarily to carry out orders, but I dined in with my family and I'm glad we gave it a chance. We placed our order at a touch screen kiosk and i had no difficulties in noting an allergy request on one of the items. When that item came out, they had marked on its container in large letters that it was free of the allergen. Another huge win for this place is that kids can get a free quesadilla and fries meal or add chicken for a mere $2. I didn't realize this before we came, but in this economy, I'm blown away by this. My fickle children even ate the food, so that's with at least a star. The actual food was very good. The carne asada was well marinated and full of flavor. The birria tacos with consume were excellent. I've had better tortilla chips and salsa elsewhere, but the main order exceeded expectations and we'll certainly be back. read more

My experience at this restaurant was such that I REQUESTED A REFUND. First time ever at this restaurant. First, they were NOT FRIENDLY. I asked for a menu and they pointed but I could not see the menu. I asked and they told me to use the ordering system (computer type). I was lost as to how find why I wanted and a woman who was also cooking came use the touch screen that many people touch while also cooking. (LACK OF HYGIENE) Decided to order a Burrito Bowl and I was CHARGED BEFORE SERVED. The Burrito Bowl order said rice and beans, meat, pico de gallo, guacamole and cheese. However, I expected more than just that, like lettuce, tomatoes, onions, corn, salsa, sour cream, etc. I didn't want rice. I didn't want meat and the woman suggested Vegetarian Chorizo. No one in line/no a busy place. They were taking their time so I went back to a table to talk to some people. (just 3 tables at the place). (LAZY SERVERS) This is mostly take out place. They packed my food and was ready to leave, when my sister said she was going to seat and eat there. I opened my order and to my surprised and CONFUSION, I only had beans, pico de gallo guacamole and cheese. Bowl was so empty, ITS CONTENT COULD FIT IN A DESSERT PLATE without spilling over. It was ENOUGH FOOD FOR A 3-YEARS OLD, not for an adult. I could easily see the bottom of the bowl without spilling the food. The cost was over $13 with tax. Approached the counter and ask a young girl who directed me to talk to IVONNE. I told her I could get a bowl for less and completely full at Chipotle or CAVA. IVONNE never asked me what she could add to make it to my satisfaction. Ivonne said it was what I order but she never asked if I wanted to add any other side items. My only mistake was that I wasn't watching what she was putting in my bowl, but Ivonne didn't called me either to asked me if I wanted to add anything to my bowl. Ivonne didn't like that I compared her very poor serving portions to Chipotle and CAVA. She began to put me down as if she wanted me to lose my cools and raise my voice to make a scene. I realized that when my sister who was at the table asked in a loud voice "what is the problem? why don't they fill your bowl? The woman then called her to approach the counter and began to praise her for no reason. We were guessing Ivonne didn't want the other two ladies at the restaurant to hear what was going on. When she approached she told my sister that she gave me what I asked for and she even asked me if I wanted cheese because she believe I was vegetarian. My sister then has to educate her in the different between Vegan and Vegetarian. Actually Ivonne treated me as I didn't deserve to be treated with respect and consideration. Realizing she was not willing to add anything else to my bowl, I told her I couldn't go back to that restaurant, Ivonne replied was "that is your choice". Told her that I couldn't recommend the place and Ivonne told me it was okay. I then asked her for a Refund. Ivonne told me she will NOT GIVE ME A REFUND that same day and that she will have to give me the refund the next day. I asked for a note to that effect. She refused to give me a note repeating that she will give me a refund the next day. Still waiting for that refund. After leaving the establishment I decided to go back and press her for a written refund note. As I asked her she stood there on her phone ignoring me. I just stood there waiting after a few minutes she asked me what I wanted. I asked her again for a note. Then she used a highlighter to write a note, I asked her to write it with a pen and she said she didn't have a pen. I am 66 years old and in my entire life I had never refuse to pay for a meal. Have I been someone who got upset easily, use fowl language or put her in her place I am sure she will not had treated me the way she did and she will had make the $3 bowl she gave me worth the $13 bowl I ordered. I am a calm person and not disrespectful with other people and she took advantage of my quite but to the point personality. My sister told me that if I will had gone in there demanding she will had not treated me the way she did. She is probably right. My brother in law was not happy with the food costing him more than $46 for two people when it is not even a seat down restaurant. Nor did they give him the salsa that was suppose to come with it. While my bowl didn't have the vegetarian chorizo she was suppose to add to it. For those people who order DoorDash or Uber from this place be careful and please check your orders before leaving the establishment if you are willing to pay more than you will pay at Chipotle, CAVA or Qdoba. read more

I've been wanting to try this place since I saw a review a few weeks ago. Well today was the day we walked in and it's a set up where there's a menu on the wall, and then you place your order on an easy to navigate kiosk. The staff are very friendly and answered a couple questions about the food. I decided to get the Birria taco combo, and the marinated beef was delicious. These were served with a separate container of the broth, yum! My husband got the steak tacos, which also had very good marinated flavor. The tortillas themselves are warmed with a little cheese melted into them and they seem homemade. Nothing was spicy, but the food was perfectly savory. Our tacos were served with three generous slices of lime, and very fresh, cut cucumber. Two sauces are included; both with a kick of heat. The lime rice was very fresh and tasty. The beans are not refried, more like pinto beans in a vegetable soup type broth. They were delicious. Great care was taken with presentation, even in a to-go box. I wish I had taken a photo. Prices run from about $10-14 for the 3-taco combos, which I think is well worth it. They used good, fresh, quality ingredients and the entire place, including the cooking area, was clean and spotless. Before our first taco was even finished, we both said "we're coming back!" Not very impressed with this experience. This store is located on the edge of a huge shopping mall, which also encompasses several hotels. My wife and I were staying at one of these hotels while on a long road trip, and needed dinner. Had never heard of Big Papi's, so we gave them a try. Ordered online for pickup. As a plus, the food was ready when promised, and the pickup went smoothly. When i got back to the room, however, I found out the the can of Aqua Limon that I had ordered, and was listed on the receipt, was not included in the bag. We were too tired from traveling to want to go out again, so we went ahead and ate our tacos. Visually, the tacos in the container did not look very appealing. However, they were surprisingly tasty. It was the light dinner we had been looking for. My sife felt dinner was " fine. " Given the mass of choices in this particular location, IF we are ever again in this neighborhood looking for dinner, I am pretty sure we would experiment with some other restaurant before we ordered again from Big Papi's. read more

Tried this place on a whim. the food was okay but it was very one-note: salty. i got the birria quesadilla with a side of sour cream to help with this and it was instead a creamy sauce that was even more salty. and I do like my food seasoned but this was too much. The food was lacking salt,. They were out of carnitas which was disappointing. Saying the salsa is mild is offensive to mild salsa. I had asada and birria i think. The consume was bland. Its good music actually, like Bad Bunny Latin Club stuff but it is just played 3 times louder than it needs to be. So let me start by saying that I stalked Big Papis on IG waiting for them to open. I finally went and while I wasn't unhappy I wasn't blown away. It was off peak so not very busy. One of the team members walked me through the process and was very nice. They have 2 self order kiosks and a register for cash payments. I ordered a bunch of different items since I had never been there before and the process was a bit confusing but not too bad. Food took a bit of time but I had a large order so not overly long. A great majority of the food items are in corn tortillas and they had no smaller flour tortillas for my special order(wife and son cannot eat corn) the employee said he would cut down the larger flour tortillas for me! Awesome! Once we got the food home everyone dug in quickly and ate it all up. The overall feeling on the food was pretty good but not great. Was hoping for this to be our new go to Mexican food but sadly it will just fall into rotation. read more

Some slices had a lot of meat - and others had none. Not worth the wait at all let alone for a $30 pizza when papa John's is next door and makes it for $18 read more

All the items are tastier from the frederick location, I don't think hagerstown is bad at all but they need improvement to match with the items in the frederick location.
