    Maria's Chicken chimichanga

Tried Maria's Taqueria for the first time and ordered the Maria's Chimi with chicken - it was delicious. Fresh, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. The service was friendly and quick, which made the experience even better. Definitely looking forward to coming back!

An amazing find in the middle of shepherds town. Walking in was an experience to make us come back. The place was dressed with a twist of modern settings and cultural holidays. The host was super friendly and welcoming and could see that it was our first time there. He gave us Maria's famous picks and highlighted the fish tacos. Although we are in the middle of the mountains, the host was right on point and the fish tacos were amazing. Super crispy yet flaky and fresh, the Cole slaw supplemented a little bit of the sour that some consumers squeeze the fresh lemon for but it wasn't necessary here. It was also complimented with a smooth, delicious, and creamy salsa verde (or similar). We also tried Maria's chimi with the shredded pork. Now when I say juicy, I mean juicy. Topped with some fresh pico, sour cream, and guacamole...it had an undercoat of queso sauce. The chimichanga was perfectly fried and wrapped tightly with just the shredded pork inside. Every bite was mouth watering and filling and luckily they had some hot sauce and sriracha on the shelf for those that like things a little spicy. Oh...I almost forgot, they had a simple selection of soft drinks and alcoholic beverages. Come on down to enjoy the food, small town, and welcoming staff here at Maria's.

Bought 3 Taco's, Nachos and Ghost Quesadilla. It was good, but not WOW, IMO. While the ingredients were fresh, the beef lacked seasoning. Restaurant was clean, good vibes, I'd return. Downside, the photos of menu are old. Same items but inflation is the likeliest reason the prices were 30-40% higher. I posted the new prices...

We stopped at Maria's Taqueria in Shepherdstown for a burrito bowl and quesadilla! I opted for ground beef in my bowl because I was sharing it with my 13 month old (who def approved ), and it was so flavorful and good! Very cool vibes and friendly staff. We didn't try it, but the guac looked really good! If you are a fan of Chipotle like I am, this is a great local alternative!

This place is an absolute must stop when in town. It's a gorgeous restaurant, tons of seating, beautifully decorated with a super helpful and efficient staff. We put our orders in with the very helpful server in front and when I say the food comes out quickly - it does. We basically sat down and our nachos were out already. The NACHOS! A warning and a love letter to these nachos. Truly some of the best I've ever had. The queso was absolutely phenomenal and loaded onto every layer. A more than adequate amount of sour cream and pico is piled high on these bad boys. The pork was also very flavorful. Now time for the warning, we got these as an app and it could've easily been a meal with leftovers. No regrets obviously but you've been warned - it's a very generous portion of food. Since I also ordered an entree not knowing those delicious nachos were going to fill me up let's talk about that. I got the traditional tacos, two chicken and one pork. Delicious. Piled high with perfectly fall off the bone meat, onions, cilantro and queso fresco. One taco is enough for a meal. They're double tortillas are certainly needed for these hefty tacos. Absolutely wonderful flavors though. My other half got the carnivore burrito and he loved it as well. So much chicken in it that he had a hard time finishing it too. Put it this way, we are around lunchtime and were only hungry again at 9pm. I can't say enough about this place, I hope they stay a long time so I can visit again someday. I'm a huge Mexican food fan and this is definitely not a place to sleep on.

[Coronavirus review] The latest in my series of businesses that have adapted to the coronavirus restrictions, this place does ordering over the phone or in-person. The West Virginia scenery of faded industry surrounded by shale and wood doesn't overlap in my mind with the sight of tacos, but it's actually a very good location right now, as there are a lot of nice areas to visit in the surrounding countryside, and not a lot of restaurants. It's only fifteen minutes from Antienam. My order was ready before I got there. They offer most items vegetarian or vegan, though I was a bit disappointed to discover that their veggie tacos were literally veggies; mostly peppers, onions, and a heavy dose of cilantro. Don't get me wrong, they were pretty tasty, but without beans the only real protein source was some crumbles of queso fresco. To be fair, there were options to order beans, and even though I'm watching my spending, I kind of wished I'd added a side of them. Chips and guac were what I ordered instead; nothing that lit me on fire but I was full for my money. If I were back in the vicinity, I'd order a bit differently, but I'd order again.

Holy hog. The vegetarian Maria special I had was ridiculous. I would eat it every day. For comparison, imagine a delicious Chipotle burrito, but then covered in queso and pico! I also added guac. It was SO GOOD. It was way more than I could eat and I didn't have a fridge available so I did have food waste. :'(. Maybe order with a buddy??? We ordered takeout during COVID times, and it was a smooth process. The menu was available and the timing was accurate.

Maria's is a cute eclectic little restaurant in downtown Shepherdstown West Virginia. It is bright and cheerful with about seven or eight tables and some of the freshest best Mexican food I have had in a long time. although they are known for their fish tacos I ordered the huevos rancheros and they were delicious. A combination of tortilla, over easy eggs, White cheese, cilantro, refried beans, black beans and pico all extremely fresh and delicious. I chose carnitas as my protein..fantastic! My wife had the chimichanga and it was Crispy fresh and wonderful even deep-fried and she also chose Carnitas as her protein and her meal was also wonderful. The only way this gets any better is if they had their liquor license and I could've had a margarita! Ole! If you are ever in Shepherdstown don't miss it!

Set on a Main Street, downtown location with brick sidewalks, this is a small spot in a row of a large amount of restaurants, shops, within walking distance to campus. Stopped here after a Shepherd game looking for food, and settled here walking in on a Wednesday night. All ordering is done at the counter, with food being brought out soon after. Clean place with a hipster vibe overall. Ordered chips and Queso, as well as a burrito with pork and without the beans. Chips were good but the Queso was a little underwhelming. It was good overall- just seemed like it was missing something. Burrito was tasty - a little on the small side - but it was properly filled with equal amounts of meat, rice, cream, etc. Drinks are by can or bottle, which I'm not a fan of- esp in a mexican restaurant where sodium is always high in the ingredients - which makes you even more thirsty, and to the average person who doesn't take that into consideration - you could easily buy 2-3 drinks here which helps the bottom line. Stay woke. Highly recommended.

One of the two meals we got. Tasted amazing and looked pretty on the plate!

This will be my second time eating at Maria's Taqueria with the best experience. The food is very reasonably priced, tastes great, and is plated nicely. The staff and overall environment is welcoming and friendly. While visiting this time, I had my dog who had just had surgery and was in a wagon. I was with my boyfriend, so we took turns ordering and sitting outside with my dog. They were kind enough to offer us to bring her in while ordering so she didn't have to sit outside. They brought our food out to us very quickly.

Our server barely understood English, and even simple questions turned into a whole situation. I asked FOUR separate times whether the spicy salsa was free. I literally said, "If it's free, I'll take it. If not, never mind." The server kept saying yes, it was free... so we ate it. Then the check comes out with a $3.99 charge for the salsa When I asked why it was charged after being told multiple times it was free, the server still kept saying "free" while staring at the receipt. At that point I had to ask for the manager because we were clearly not communicating. The manager said there was a "language barrier issue," BUT because we already ate it, we still had to pay for it. That part honestly blew my mind. If I asked about the price four times before ordering, clearly the whole point was that I didn't want it if it cost extra What made it worse was the attitude. The server never apologized once and the manager acted super confident like this was somehow normal. And honestly... the food wasn't even worth the drama. Everything was ridiculously salty, and the salsa tasted like someone mixed it with water. Cool interior. Terrible experience. Definitely not coming back.

This Papi's looks good, but tastes only "ok"…read more We were tired on a Sunday early-evening, (Jun 2026), and the staff of the Big Papi's location in Hagerstown seemed unmotivated, maybe worn out from towards the end of their day. We got a birria taco, a rockfish taco, a vegetarian burrito, and a guacamole. The fresh-made guac was quite good! Creamy, fresh, and generous. The Birria taco was good. Flavorful and tender and generous. But inexplicably they did not include a side of consommé sauce for dipping. Lots-of-sauce is a key part of a messy juicy birria taco. That would have just been a disappointment. But the fried rockfish taco, meh. It tasted fresh, but it tasted like something had burned in the oil. The fish seemed too chewy, overdone. The coating was overly-hard. The bean and rice burrito was also meh. The dull rice seemed too chewy, either overdone or cooked until it was too dry. And there were only a small amount of black beans, and no added veggies, so there was little flavor. Overall, we were disappointed in the Big Papi's location in Hagerstown. For over $35, we only liked $8 of the food. What was good, was very good. Maybe they were just having a bad evening. We might try Big Papi's again, but probably not this location.
