Pretty good, not the best I've had but also not the worst! I really liked that the tacos themselves weren't greasy, they were presented well, and the employees were very kind. I loved the surf n turf and birria the best, chorizo was my least favorite. My friends tried the smash burger and it was just a hamburger patty placed on top of the tortilla, not smashed into it and they felt like there was very little seasoning. Pass on that next time. The price is pretty steep, $5.50 per taco and you have to order yourself at a kiosk, a little strange in my opinion! But it's in an awesome area and felt very clean, so that's a bonus. Recently got an order of 3 soy chorizo tacos from Big Papi's and I'm a little conflicted. First the flavor is great and would recommend for vegetarians and vegans to get it. I'm suprised that Big Papi's isn't pushing this protein more because it's something the other taco places in the area are offering. While the flavor is great, the portion size isn't and for 15$ it makes it tough to recommend. I dont want to compare it to other taco places in the area but with so many around, I have to. Other places, its a bit of a challenge to finish 3 tacos with the toppings and at Big Papi's I finished the 3 and felt like I could still eat more. So while the portion size was good, it didn't beat out other places. Lastly there were two sauces included but I wasn't sure what they're base was an if they were vegan or not. This is a pretty decent taco spot. I went in and ordered their birria taco combo, it came with three tacos, consume, and two salsas. The place was surprisingly empty, didn't get much service except when my order was called. The consume was piping hot while the tacos were a little cold, i still enjoyed them though. I have to say this place was very MID. All the workers super friendly and greeted us as we walked in. After ordering, we went to find a table. Pretty much all the tables had either crumbs or salsa all over them. We opted to sit by the windows as it was the only clean area. The food - Both of our drinks were very much WATERED down. Not worth $5. Like my pineapple juice gave more water than anything. I think this place is average! I think if you are craving tacos then it will get the job done but its kinda pricey for the size of the tacos. I ordered the carnitas and chorizo and both meats were quite dry. It tasted better once you dip it into the consomme. I enjoyed how the tortilla was cripsy. Oh yea this spot is fire!!!! The food is really good. I was heading to Regal Rockville theater to see Wicked with my friends and we decided to eat here first real quick. We decided to order our food online even though we were dining in. The service was great - we let them know what we ordered and our names and they brought our food to our table. I ordered the birria grilled cheese and I am still thinking about it. It was SO SO good. Right when we were leaving the chef and the guy at the register also checked in the check in if we enjoyed the food. The spot is cute and vibey. Went with the bae the other day, and this food was fire!!!! I'm still thinking about it. To me, the birria was overcooked and lacked that intense birria flavor. Customer service was amazing! We were greeted warmly and the cashier came over to joke with us while we dined in. Each taco was a masterpiece, featuring a crispy tortilla that appeared to be dipped in a savory sauce. The portions offered a perfect balance, packed with compact flavors. I MUST highlight the Loaded Fries with Steak--they arrived perfectly crispy and were generously topped with steak and a delicious secret sauce. Of course, I had to try the Flamin' Hot Elote Loco in a cup. Unlike many places where the corn lacks freshness, Big Papi's elote was unmistakably fresh and utterly delicious. i really wanted to like this place. i've been trying to find time to visit for the past few months, but my experience wasn't worth the wait unfortunately. two stars for the main star - surf & turf tacos, though only 2pcs of shrimp seemed a bit dishonoring to the price. the sauces were good, especially the orange one for a kick. the elote - awful. it's that chewy kind of corn with no flavor that easily gets stuck in your teeth, not the sweet corn. the toppings don't make it any better if the base isn't flavorful. the rice - poor. it was very upsetting that mexican rice didn't live up to the expectation in a mexican restaurant. horchata - good. could've used more mixture since the cup is rather larger. i have three stars because they did try to rectify the corn issue by offering me free churros. those were a good treat to end with. read more

It was labeled in my order yet they didn't put it on my tray. So make sure to double check they don't forget it if you get this. Esquites was also a bit watery or on the blander side? Best vegan tacos in Maryland. No competition. So thankful they opened up in Rockville so I can get this meal regularly. In Montgomery County there are many taco options but there are very few vegan options. At Big Papi's they have a vegan taco on the menu that is clearly labeled and needs no modifications to avoid animal products. Also, their vegan meat is made from tofu, tempeh, and lentils. It is so rare to find a business that crafts a plant-based protein in-house rather than using Impossible, Beyond Meat, or Gardein. The tortilla for the taco was so flavorful and a little crispy. The vegan protein had an amazing meaty texture. It was hearty and had some chew to it. The two salsas on the side added the right amount of heat. Each lime slide added the citrus this taco needed. And the cucumber slice on each taco was the best way to cool down your mouth after enjoying so much flavor. When it is your first visit you can join the Rewards program and get $5 off your first order. I highly recommend stopping in and taking advantage of that incentive. One taco order is all you need to get hooked! I am so excited to continue to build up points at Big Papi's Tacos. It would be cool if they could increase their vegan offerings. But this one meal is enough reason for me to stop by regularly. This business also is family friendly. They have plenty of highchairs and seating options for families. New to the neighborhood! Nice vibe inside. Good music, but a little loud for conversation when I was there for lunch yesterday. Got five tacos, beans, rice, the consommé, the Esquite Loco and chips/guac. Everything was delicious. The chip bag was greasy (like 5-Guy's fries bag greasy), but other than that the chips were crisp, not greasy and tasty. The guac was smooth and the small (they have two sizes) portion was plenty for two of us to share. Each of the tacos was good, with my favorite being the carne asada. The weakest for me was the shrimp. The consommé wasn't necessary to enjoy any of the tacos, but I will say that the consommé did provide a little something - not spice, not salt, but a nice complement. The tacos also come with a green sauce that was spicy and a nice complement. I enjoyed the Esquite Loco, although my partner did not. I think there was too much cojita cheese or maybe mayo in it for them. The rice and beans also were good and, again, a decent portion for the price of the side. Service: its counter service and the order was filled promptly. I asked for black beans and got pinto beans by mistake. The pintos were good actually. I asked for a spoon and the worker apologized that they don't have spoons. Then I looked in my bag, and there was a spoon there. So, be careful and double check your order. On a dark and chilly Rockville evening, we found ourselves at Big Papi's getting some flavor. We started with the loaded chicken nachos, and there were more toppings (and chicken) than nachos, in a very good way - plenty of stuff to carry with each nacho. Then the tacos - crispy tortillas (I think they're fried in oil), with lots of flavorful ingredients. My favorite was the shrimp tacos. The rockfish tacos came in close second (the fish were fried, so the tortillas were not - nice balance). In general, plenty of meat with lots of bright and fresh fillings to balance out the oils in the fried tortillas. If it's taco Tuesday, get to Big Papi's for some really good tacos! You got the reggaeton music playing, employees greet you with a smile, and the decor of the establishment is so welcoming, very modern. I did not enjoy my meal as much as my anticipation would allow. I went in and ordered chips and queso, and 3 tacos (chicken, birria and one steak). Because of where I live, I decided to eat my food while it was fresh. Well... The queso was great. However, my chips were super hard and stale. Every last one of them. I even tried shaking the bag up and pulling from the bottom in hopes that I would find fresher chips. I didn't. I ended up tossing the entire bag out. I was furious!!! I guess I needed to ask for the birria dip because my taco did not come with it. The chicken was seasoned well but something was off. The steak was ok. I was super disappointed. I should have known not to try it cause the place was completely empty at 7 pm except for the workers and the group of 3 patrons there. However, it had great reviews from what I saw.
