Took my Son's Malibu here for an oil change. Looked under the car when I got home and oil is pouring out of the oil filter housing and the level is way low. It was not leaking at all before and fortunately the engine did not blow. I call the owner Sam and explain the situation he says, "No Problem, bring it in we will fix it at no charge" Inconvenient but alright you are going to own up and fix it. So, I call to schedule and find out how long it will take. The owner Sam changes his tune and says, "It is a coincidence". "People come here and try to start their car after we change the oil, it won't start and the starter is bad. Is that our fault?" Really????? The starter has nothing to do with the oil and is irrelevant to my situation. I paid you to change the oil, had no leak and now it is gushing out and it is a "coincidence"??? I had to replace the filter housing gasket myself, and had to basically destroy the new filter they put on to get it off because it was so tight. My quick oil change turned into 4 hours of labor, and another oil change all at my expense. Don't take your car to these shade tree mechanics. Sam will act like he is your best friend until they cause a problem and then, IT IS YOUR PROBLEM. read more

We had been going there for oil changed because we were new to the area. The "manager" smokes while he is servicing cars, which is so unprofessional. I understand car repair is a dirty business, but seriously, they are all filthy. They convinced me I needed an oil flush. I took the bait. Not a week later we went to our auto repair place and whatever they did at Big Ray's messed up our transmission. Luckily they were able to repair the damage, do a new flush and the repair place didn't even worry about charging us for the new flush. I will never, ever set foot into Big Ray's again. The place I return to consistently due to the integrity and kindness of the employees. It's not the least expensive place but they are timely, considerate and unbelievably friendly. Clint (oh how I hope that's his name because he deserves a huge shout out) not only didn't try to talk me into filters I didn't need but also noticed my side mirror was bungee corded in the saddest was ever. He not only scraped the old, crusty glue I attempted to use but he also taped it so my mirror didn't look like I just drove it off the junk yard lot. He was funny and engaging as have a the employees I've encountered. And I'm a pretty cynical, cheap girl. Thanks to the entire staff. Don't understand the bad reviews here. I've been going to this place for years. No complaints at all on service. I've never been up sold and in my case there is probably just cause for them to attempt it as my vehicle is not new & could probably use new filter, belts, flushes & so on. Staff is always very informative and honest. They take the time to show comparisons, competitor's rates and explain service. They do a thorough exam of the car and check all fluids, tire pressure and general maintenance. I have been a loyal customer for over 5-years and they are always trying to find ways to give me discounts off my service. They are quick, efficient and went out of their way to get a part from a local auto parts store to get my service completed. Highly recommended. read more

My daughter took her car here, and after 4,500 miles the motor blows up because the cap was not tightened properly on the oil pan. Would recommend not going here. Of course they deny any wrong doing, but funny how it was fine before the oil change and when checked, after the motor blew up, the oil pan was lose. read more

I stopped in here for an oil change because my normal place was too busy. I should have stayed in line there, or at least realized Big Ray's had no line for a reason. Without a doubt I got ripped off. They charged me $50 for a basic oil change. That is easily $15 more than I have paid at any other quick lube establishment. I will never be back. I have been taking our family's cars here for several years. Not just oil changes, but they fixed our brakes several times and just installed struts and new front end components for half less than half of what Belle Tire quoted us. They have always bee friendly and quick, and as a local business they ave treated my referrals well. I trust their advise, even if it costs a little extra to have done that day because they do a good job. read more

I went to Take 5 at first for them to tell me they didn't have the filter for my car and they shut my hood and I was on my way home when I smelt fumes, I get home and realize they never put my oil cap back on my car! All the oil in my car came squirting all over the engine! Big Rays employees not only changed my oil but they also took the time to clean the oil spill up and were super nice! Came today for my second oil change because my first experience was amazing. These guys are genuine and care about quality work. My breaks started making noise last week so had them look at them. Turns out I needed new pads as well as rotors all around. They walked me all around the car and explained what I was looking at on each wheel. Very much appreciate the personal touch. Not to mention I was on a time crunch and they all seemed to work hard to get me on my way! I live In ypsilanti and will continue to drive here for the great service. My rear brakes were grinding. They were 120 dollars cheaper than two other auto repair places in the area. All the employees communicated extremely well with me, were very proud of their work including the owner. They were also very quick at getting the repairs made. I decided to get an oil change while I was there. My car takes synthetic oil. The owner showed me the sealed from the MFG Mobile 1 synthetic oil containers opened the seals in front of me. He told me that he is also part of a government backed volunteer program where they do unannounced checking of all oil containers so customers get the product they are paying for-(not giving you cheap oil when you are paying for and the manufacturer requires synthetic). I have heard of other oil change places that do this. Big Rays appears to be very up front and honest. I will be back again in the future. read more

I would give them zeros stars if it was an option. They changed my oil and then said they could fix other other issue with my car. The idiot employees keep quoting me random numbers "this piece would be 300$ new". Well they couldn't fix my car, it turned into a 160$ oil change. Don't go here. Great service! I called first for pricing and they offered me the lowest price from the 3 places I called, for synthetic blend oil change. Plus Sam offered me a coupon! I got there at 1:30 and was out by 2, I had 4 cars ahead of me too! Rick and Sam showed me my old filter and helped me reset my car so it would stop saying -change oil soon!! I've taken all of my cars here for oil changes and maintenance since I've lived in howell. I run synthetic in my vehicles because I think it's the best option for the engine. I've had them do my regular fluid maintenance at recommended intervals (radiator, trans, etc.). I have them change the filter with the oil because that's what the manufacturer calls for and I think it's the right thing to do. I like the manager (Sam, I think). Others in reviews refer to him as the guy with the accent. I've cross-checked anything he's recommended against my manuals, and he has never recommended anything that wasn't called for. I have never had an argument with them, and have never been cheated or pressured by them. Maybe this isn't the best place to get the cheapest oil change in town, I don't know. If you're that cheap, you should probably not go to an oil change place anyway. But my 2009 Suzuki SX4 has been maintained here since day zero, has 100K on it, and I've had zero problems. I think what some people call an upselling scam is actually these guys recommending what's in the manual and what they think is best for your vehicle. Maybe Sam is more passionate about his customers and their vehicles than the guy at the bargain basement oil change place who is just trying to run as many oil changes through as possible. Contrary to other reviews, I don't think he's trying to rip anybody off. read more

I have been to this location of Big Ray's before for oil changes, but this time I needed a radiator flush. I was thoroughly impressed with the caliber of their work! Their pricing was competitive and they have Xfinity Wi-Fi on the premises. I rec'd a discount coupon for a car wash at the facility adjoining their location! I also learned they perform brake replacements and soon will install tired as well. What more can one ask for? Job well done! read more

Dishonest staff and I was taken for a $103 oil change, yes I needed two filters but after asking if I could just get them at a Walmart, they told me it wasn't much more there. It was my fault for trusting their word, I DO NOT recommend going here. read more

Great service. My vehicle has 195,000 miles on it. I change my oil often, but not often enough. I was in on a Saturday and felt bad for the line outside while they performed a transmission flush, oil change and radiator flush and fill. My transmission was slipping, no more after service. My oil level is good and my over flow bottle on my cooling system is staying at the full mark, just like they said it would. By the way, I asked for the extras, was not "SOLD", and watching this team work was fun. I have been to many other places in my million plus miles, if you can't afford to maintain your car, don't drive. If you want it done right, at a fair price, go to Big Ray's. read more

My daughter took her car in to have the oil changed. They told her that the oil she was using was the more expensive 5000 mile oil so they charged her $13 more. They then said that her air filter was dirty and needed to be changed. I changed it in February of this year. She bit and got charged another $20 some for a new air filter. Then he tried to tell her that her trans was going out unless they did a trans tune up on it. He would show her the dipstick and rub it on his hand to show her all of the metal shavings and dirt that was in her trans. Thank goodness she did not let them do the trans tune for $150 and that was a deal by giving her a $20 discount. I took it to a mechanic and he could not find any metal or dirt in the fluid and that it was not "varnished" like she was told. I was going to go back in and argue with them about what they did but figured it would not do any good so I am writing this to warn others to NEVER, and I mean NEVER go to Big Ray's for ANYTHING unless you want to get RIPPED OFF.
