Big Rig's BBQ is a local restaurant that serves smoked meats (e.g., brisket, pork belly, turkey, kielbasa, pulled pork, and baby-back ribs), sandwiches (e.g., brisket grilled cheese, crispy hot chicken, and triple pig), sides (e.g., baked beans, coleslaw, Brussels sprouts, and potatoes), a kids' menu, a couple desserts, beverages, etcetera. The meats are smoked daily with a blend of hickory, cherry, and apple woods. Dining in, carry-out, delivery, and catering are available. So far, my husband and I have eaten three lunches from Big Rigs BBQ--two for dining in and one as a $250 takeout for family. We have tried most of the menu items and really enjoyed all of them. I have not yet tried every BBQ restaurant in the Pittsburgh region, but so far, Big Rig's BBQ is our favorite. For meats, we ate the brisket (5 stars, very tender and flavorful), baby-back ribs (5 stars, fall-off-the-bone and tasty), pulled-pork shoulder (4.5 stars, nicely smoked and goes well with the many sauces), original kielbasa (4.5 stars), cheddar-jalapeno kielbasa (4.5 stars), pineapple kielbasa (5 stars, an explosion of unique, delicious flavors), pork-belly burnt ends (4.5 stars, tender with a very flavorful sauce), turkey (4.5 stars, juicy and flavorful), and smoked turkey-club sandwich (5 stars, my husband loves its cheddar, bacon, lettuce, and dijonaise). For sides, we ate the mac and cheese (4 stars, American, cheddar, and pepper jack), potato salad (4.5 stars, with bacon, scallions, cheddar cheese, bell peppers, and mustard), cornbread (5 stars, with cheddar cheese and BBQ honey butter), BBQ baked beans (5 stars, very flavorful ingredients), and brussels sprouts (5 stars, tasty sauce). This BBQ restaurant also serves some salads. I ate a BBQ salad (5 stars) with my choice of protein, Nashville Chicken Breast. This salad might be the most loaded-up that I have ever eaten. Big Rig's has become the go-to BBQ place in Pittsburgh's eastern suburbs. The meats are properly prepared and they offer many delicious sides. My favorite sandwich is their Nashville Crispy Hot Chicken. The Sliced Pork Belly is very good. Sides of Corn Bread and BBQ Pit Baked Beans should also be considered. Flavorful, freshly sliced meats! Delicious, numerous sides! Big Rigs continues to knock it out of the park with their options and their quality. You can get a full meal unlike other local barbecue places. We tried a few extra sides just to round out our barbecue and we already want them again. The Brussel sprouts were coated in a delicious seasoning and sooooo tasty. The potato salad is dynamic with soft chunks of potato, bacon, peppers, and more! Lots of mustard seeds though. The macaroni and cheese is actually MACARONI! Sorry to anyone that loves the current obsession with cavatapi noodles... but it isn't called Cav & Cheese. Out of towner here for business. I'm an absolute sucker for BBQ joints and eat them 3-4 times per week as I travel for work (280+ nights per year). I read through reviews for this place on multiple platforms and took a swing at it despite other places in the area. I am so glad I did. Y'all, the smoked turkey club sandwich is absolutely bananas! I'm a big corn-fed southern boy, and this sandwich was massive! The turkey was incredibly flavorful, the bacon was crispy (smoked and possibly fried?), bread nicely grilled....the works. I got the pit beans as a side. Absolutely superb. Now, the star of the show.... Y'all, this Mac and cheese!!!!! It's not your "traditional" Mac, as it's made with pepper jack. It's not spicy, but you know it's there. My God, this stuff is creamy, sticky, and sounds like Nicki when you stir it. So flavorful. I consider myself a well-trained bbq taster, and if you're disappointed by this place, you need to stick to McDonalds. However much I wanted to love this place, I just thought it was okay. The brisket in the brisket sandwich was a little dry and required a lot of bbq sauce to go down. The Mac and cheese was very liquidy. The standout dish was the side of beans- very flavorful. Big Rig's BBQ makes delicious food. There's a big open kitchen behind the counter, so you can see seasoning, cooking, etc. happening right in front of you. Everything we had was great. (Tip: To go is not be a good idea if you are at all hungry and have a medium-to-long drive -- the food smells SO good, you will likely be tempted to pull onto a shoulder and start eating.) Wow wow wow. I'm from North Carolina, so finding decent barbecue is hard in my opinion. Enter Big Rig's- the best bbq I have EVER had. Their meat is tender and their sauces are spot on. Big Rig's is located in a little Plaza off of the main highway in Monroeville. Although it is hidden, you'll definitely know where to find it when you go back over and over again! My mom and I stopped by Big Rig's BBQ for a quick late lunch/early dinner. The staff was so friendly and answered all the questions we had. We both ordered the pulled pork sandwich, a slice of cornbread and the Mac n cheese. I wasn't blown away by the Mac n cheese or cornbread. The Mac n cheese is not baked but has decent flavor. It kind of gives premium boxed Mac n cheese. The cornbread was pretty tough but had ok flavor. The pulled pork sandwich I really enjoyed. The slaw on the sandwich was really good. I also didn't really like any of the bbq sauce offered that were placed on the table. We also placed orders for ribs and sides for New Year's Eve. Meaty and so darn good I resisted saucing them. The cornbread is delicious, the pit beans are the best I've ever had. I have had several BBQ restaurants, but this is the best one yet! Sliced Pork Belly: Melts in your mouth with one bite. Baby Back Ribs: Not to salty, and seasoned very well! Small size is a big portion. Nashville Crispy Hot Chicken: MY FAVORITE! You'll never go back to any other chicken sandwiches. It does have a kick to it, so it'll probably a no-go to non-spicy food folks. Coleslaw: It tastes more like pickled vegetables instead of a coleslaw, and it went really well with all the bbq food. Twice Fried Potatoes: These also go really well with the bbq dishes and super crunchy. I highly recommend getting this side. They have a parking lot just in front of the restaurant. We recently found ourselves in Monroeville, so we made our way to Big Rigs to see what they had to offer. They are located in a small strip mall off the main drag, cooking up all of the staples such as brisket, pork belly and ribs. We ended up going with their classic pulled pork and skirt steak sandwiches, both of which were delicious. The pork was amazing and the steak was delicious too. The steak had a chipotle marinade with peppers and onions, garlic spread and spicy mayo. Our sides were great too, with the Mac and cheese and twice fried potatoes both hitting the spot. Got the burnt ends. I've ordered before delicious. I'm a salt person but I couldn't eat it. It was beyond salty and couldn't even put a fork in it to pick it up. I haven't found many good barbecue places around Pittsburgh since moving here. But this place did have one of the best/maybe even THE BEST pulled pork sandwiches I've had in my entire life. They have 3-4 different sauce options like sweet, tangy, spicy, etc. I got the spicy and it was killer but so good! Perfect spice level for my liking. Came with pickles and pickled onions on the side as well as slaw and pickled onions on the actual sandwich The brisket here was pretty good and had great flavor, but a little dry. I prefer Pittsburgh BBQ's brisket The slaw here is great and not mayo based which we really liked. I was super excited about the potato salad because I am a potato salad fanatic but it was a bit disappointing and really mustardy/strong had a ton of mustard seeds all over it Overall, glad I tried this place and will definitely order from here again since it's close to my work/I can stop on the way home. One of my favorite BBQ's. Order at the counter and they deliver your order to your table. The women taking your orders is very friendly and helpful. She also stopped by our table and others to check on your food and took away empty trays. My Brisket grilled cheese was a big tasty sandwich with tender brisket with some nice melted cheese and tomato jam on a perfectly cooked sour dough bread. The BBQ baked beans were a great side with a touch of sweetness and earthiness along with some pork and brisket burnt ends.
