Classic barbecue joint in Homestead at the site of the old Blue Dust. Single room, half bar, half tables. Getting out of the car in the parking lot smells like you walked into heaven. Think simple old school single room bar/restaurant set up. Seating for 40 at the tables and booths, maybe 14 at the bar. We came in for lunch, however they tell us they get a pretty good evening crowd. I kind of want pretty much everything on the menu. Settled on the rib teaser. Thought about the pork burnt ends, but kitchen said they weren't ready, so went with brisket burnt ends instead. My lovely counterpart got a half pound of brisket with several sides. Rib teaser, advertised as 3 to 4 bones: they serve me four large bones, cut and then smoked I think; tons of meat. Just a little bit of totally delightful crisp on the outside, and perfect lovely ribs. These are amazing. For this meal at least, I think they are the star of the show. Brisket by the pound: "It's moist. There's good bark. It's not as good as yours." "I would get it again though." Brisket burnt ends: these are delicious. I like them better than I like the plain brisket. They may be a little tougher than ideal? Very big chunks. Slaw: simple, fresh. It's actually a great foil for the meat and barbecue sauce, etc. Corn bread: "It's pretty good." Fries: these are potatoey fries, hand cut in-house. They are just absolutely fantastic; the seasoning is subtle and perfect. The french fries are special. Baked beans: this is a bean stew with a fair amount of broth and huge chunks of brisket. Have been craving the fried banana peppers....haven't been here since they moved locations and boy it did not disappoint. The service was great. Our waitress was on top of everything! We dined in on a Wednesday night and it was wing night. You can get whole smoked wings for $1.25 each. It wasn't very busy when we arrive, but it's slowly started to fill up around us and by the time we left, the bar was pretty full. They have a nice mix of booths and tables. They have a nice draft list with a good variety. I would recommend having the draft list printed and available at the tables because it is little hard to see from some of the angles in the restaurant depending on where you are sitting. read more

I've been hearing great things about Rogue Bbq by the Waterfront so while back in the area I had to stop by! I love the vibe of the restaurant. The decor is very cool, a mix of a Texas vibe and local flare. There's some really cool Pittsburgh sports memorabilia on the walls. I saw some flyers for live music, I bet the nights are fun at Rogue! They have a large menu, their app options sounded delicious! I'd return just to grab apps and drinks. Their cocktail menu looked yummy. Scott, our amazing server mentioned that everything is made in-house-- sauces, pickles, cheese sauce for the mac n cheese, etc. You can tell the food is high quality! I ordered the brisket (by the lb), a side of mac n cheese and cornbread. I should have ordered less than 1 lb of brisket because it was a lot of food! While the brisket wasn't the most tender, it was full of the perfect smokey flavor. The mac with breadcrumb crumbles is amazing --and this is from a Southern girl who knows mac n cheese. They just refreshed their menu (don't worry, the fan favorites are still there) and added some seriously crave-worthy new options. I was being stared at from the very start . As for the food disappointed disgusting an it all taste as if it was done at home brung in a reheated. Let's start with the wings first they were supposed to be smoked. They look like turkey wings. They were so big. They were flavorless, smokeless and way undercooked. I was struggling pulling them apart that my knuckles smacked my window in my vehicle and the chicken flew out of my hand so I gave it to the dogs. What other better way? The brisket was very dry didn't pull apart like butter the way I thought it would smokeless flavorless again sausage jalapeño cheddar hard as a brick had good flavor though the ribs well, let's say I have more meat on my ribs than they have on their ribs cornbread, I was appalled. It was like eating a brick zero flavor again would I recommend going here? Maybe if they stepped up their game. I would go back and give a better review or even maybe if I felt welcome like the other folk we're welcomed. The inside for the most part, very clean very nice. This location opened recently. The renovation was done nicely. Our waitress was helpful and kind. The issue was the food. Our ribs were not even close to fall off of the bone. They could have cooked for another two hours. The flavor was ok and sauce was good but very difficult to eat. The meat was just too tough. The mac and cheese was the best part. Where do I even start. First off when we sat at the table it took 20 minutes to order and we had to go up to the bar to get our own menus because our waiter was too lazy to come give them to us. Once we finally get our orders taken our waiter tells us to come to the bar to order our drinks because it would be easier (for him) to punch in and for us to get our drinks. While taking our order, our waiter informed us that the lunch special was no longer available (menu was misleading). When we asked about another item on the menu he just completely ignored us. Being on our lunch break we were limited in time. We all ordered the same thing because he informed us it would come out quickly (it took roughly an hour for the food to come out). Mind you, there was only one other table in the establishment at the time. When our food finally came out we asked for to-go boxes and the check immediately (clearly indicates we were on a time crunch). He proceeds to go back to the bar and mess with the TV. On top of that when he checked us out he got the the receipts wrong (gave him extremely simple instructions, 2 order on one check and the rest separate). During the entire time we were waiting he did not check or update us once. I'm not normally one to complain but that service was so terrible I felt the need to actually come on here and write a review. The perfect ending to that experience was the sub par brisket that was dry as the Sahara dessert. Never coming back and telling everyone that Rogue BBQ is dog water. read more

I got the sampler at her suggestion but after that she was rude and reluctant to provide service - no friendly chat, no inquiry about how i liked the food, no offers of any refills, slow. The ribs were moist and flavorful. The smoked dry-rub wings were fantastic! But, the brisket was a real disappointment - dry and no flavor. The pork was good but not great, no smoke flavor (oven cooked?) but the mustard based sauce went well with it. The sauces were excellent! Waited a half an hour and checked with a different server about our order. Was told that they were just finishing up the ribs and it wouldn't be much longer. Waited a total of 45 minutes for our order and when I checked the bags, they forgot part of our order. Server was nice and apologized about the oversight. Took the food home: Brisket, ribs and pulled pork were under seasoned. Not much flavor. Ribs were not tender. The habanero and white bbq sauces were nice. Beans were good but not much smoky flavor. This is for the Kennywood location. I have literally attempted to eat their smoked half chicken just now. It's not good, it isn't seasoned and it is undercooked as in red. I'm not talking about the pink tinge from smoking either. Putting BBQ sauce on something doesn't cover up not seasoning your meat. My first time trying Rogue was yesterday at an event. We ordered the brisket nachos, chicken quesadilla, and pulled pork tacos. The pork had a nice flavor to it. The brisket was way too fatty. I ended up eating around it. The chicken quesadilla was super small! Definitely not your standard size of quesadilla. In my opinion Rogue was too pricey for the amount of food you end up with. 35 degrees and windy out yet this team was running the smoker behind the truck and turning out the Q! The ribs were cooked pretty much to perfection, meaty, and juicy with some tooth left in them so they weren't falling off the bone. The flavor profile was a lot milder than I expected with little to no rub but the smoke was laid down just right. The wings where juicy and smoky on the inside but had inedible leather skin which is common on a low and slow smoker, a little hotter and faster and the skin could be a bite through but if they were in a cook-off they definitely wouldn't make the cut. The pulled pork taco's looked good loaded with meat and slaw with a Lime wedge but a serving box malfunction kept me from enjoying it as it went straight to the deck as opposed to my mouth. The slaw and Mac & Cheese sides were okay and paired well with the meat. All in all I'm going back for another try in hopes that maybe it was just an off day due to the weather tilting the experience to the lower side of the scale. Real smoked BBQ is hard to find in these parts and I hope Rogue BBQ stays in the game by increasing their flavor profile and adjusting the cook temps to suit the meat making everything chow down crazy! read more

The ribs were Smokey and juicy, fresh cut fries were seasoned and crisp and the slaw was uniquely tasty, with a lil pepper flavor to it. Pulled pork tacos were Smokey and savory and the slaw was sweet tangy and balanced it. The tortilla itself was very delicious. The pulled pork rolls were so different and VERY good.
