last night my wife and good friends had dinner. My wife order the sea bass which she totally enjoyed. I order the strip steak and it was well below my expectation. Even though it was generous portion its preparation and taste was not worth the cost. Our friend ordered the 6 oz filet and he also complained about the quality and taste. Also we both ordered the chopped salad it was small and room temperature. I prefer my salad cold. For desert we ordered the butter cake and that was great. My husband took me here to celebrate my birthday recently, and we were excited to try something new. Interesting that this place is located inside the Monroeville mall. So we weren't entirely sure what to expect. [[HIGHLIGHT]]When we walked in, the ambiance of the place was great. I like how its laid out an the decor. Sophisticated but comfortable.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] However, the host/hostess staff really need to step up their game. I rarely complain about this sort of thing but if the restaurant is going for this level of food, service, and prices then the whole experience needs to match that. They were kind of rude, unprofessional, and didn't really set a good tone for the rest of the night. I will say our server was great, she had a great personality and was attentive. Now one of the highlights of the meal was our drinks. They have great cocktails, and I loved the strawberry basil smash in particular. They are a little on the sweeter side (so if you don't like a lot of sweet, consider asking for less sweet) but this may be dependent on the bartender. Either way though, we agreed that the options and drinks were great and we would totally come back for a happy hour. The bread was just okay - kind of a weird mix of options that didn't seem fresh baked. My greek goddess salad was straight up weird. The dressing was so sweet, which I do not usually find to be the case with this kind of salad. It had hardly any toppings and definitely needed more of something (at least more of the chickpeas) to balance it out. I didn't even finish it. We tried the fried burrata, which was as expected but just okay. I wouldn't get it again, it was a bit underseasoned and there was no salt on the table. The french onion soup was quite good. We appreciated the somewhat unique presentation and the flavor was great. I would definitely get that again. My husband had the burger which he really enjoyed. It came with fries which were tasty. I had the crabbed stuffed shrimp, they were just okay. They came with green beans and mashed potatoes which were fine. For the price I was a bit let down. You only got 4 shrimp and the filling was more filling less crab. Also the shrimp were a bit overcooked. We also got the creamed corn with bacon and asparagus. The asparagus was fine, nothing special. But that creamed corn!! wow! One of our favorite parts of the meal. A must get if you come here. One thing kind of funny about this place is that it seems like they almost copied some of their menu from another well-known steak and seafood place in Pittsburgh... we happened to go there the following night and were laughing about how many of the fish dishes were pretty much the exact same preparations. This is a cute family owned retinue an all around awful experience. I called Wednesday to make a reservation for happy hour on Friday and was put on hold for 15 mins, so I hung up. I called back and a lady answered and goes can I place you on hold I said no since I had already been on hold. She then says okay no problem and makes my reservation on the computer for 5:15. I know she was on the computer because it took her five minutes to make the reservation because the computer was so slow. An hour later I receive a voicemail and text that my reservation was moved to 6:30 and she was sorry. She said she was not on the computer when we spoke but she did not want to put me back on hold so she wrote down the reservation information and when she went to put it into the computer she noticed 5:15 was taken. This lie upset because during the phone call she mentioned the computer so just he honest with me and say you messed up. So we showed up tonight and there was a party finishing up at our table so we waited at the bar for about ten minutes. Not one bartender greeted us or tried to take our order so we got a little annoyed. Next the manager came up to us and said she over booked the table for 6:30 and she felt bad since our reservation was already moved so she was giving us the wine room for free. She kept mentioning how people pay so much money for this room but she wants to make sure we have a great night. We wait a little more because they have to set up the room and we're finally seated. The waitress Mary was highly annoyed when we informed her we were getting the happy hour and she didn't even bring us menus so I had to look it up online. We finally order drinks and they come out about a half hour later. I go the lavender lemon drop martini which people RAVE about and it tasted like sugar with a hint of lemonade, it was so sweet and had no lavender. Mary was no where to be seen and hardly spoke to us. So we finally order our food and it was just such a disappointment. My sliders were so chard it tasted like I was licking a grill and my fries were freezing cold. The artichoke dip was delicious along with the cauliflower dip!! The manager came over and did apologize for our experience which I appreciated but they kept messing up and acting like it was our fault. I get one or two mistakes we're all human but it just kept getting worse and worse. I didn't over book them and j just wanted a fun girls night out with good drinks and that just did not happen. Mary was our outstanding, attentive and friendly server at my guy's bd dinner. Warm bread with fabulous butter with red pepper flakes, Caesar salad split for us, Filet steak was done to perfection and almost fork cutting! Huge serving of Truffle fries. My swordfish was delish with Parmesan crust and lemon sauce topping atop a thin layer of potatoes and asparagus. Hot coffee a must. I was in town to spend time with my Mom to which I was going to bring her here but she canceled out on me so Mike and I went to dinner here and when we got there we sat at a table in the dining room! The service was good but it felt like my grandma was waiting on us! I don't know why because she was much older and wore bad fitting clothes I suppose! Mike and I started with 2 Makers Mark Manhattans with extra cherry juice and then he had the Riesling and I had a glass of the Substance Cab Sauv from Washington State for 16 and it was the best Cab btg on the wine list. We then ordered and split the Fried Lobster Tail with Sweet Thai Chili Sauce which was delicious, and then we split the ribeye steak for which the chef split it on 2 plates for us which this may be the first time I would have preferred they didn't do it only because I eat a lot less than he does but it was still nice to have it come out that way. That and a baked potato with all of the fixings cheese, bacon lardons, butter, sour cream and chives. Well that was more than enough food for me so I paid and we left while other tables were still there. So often we ate the last table in the restaurant it's nice to not be that guy anymore!! What a gem to have right here in Monroeville! Don't be fooled that this is "in the mall" (it is actually not in the mall interior, it is located in a separate area without outside entrances). I loved everything about my various experiences here. Service has always been incredible. I've been seated in the bar area and the main restaurant, been there as a date night, on my own and with friends and the service was the same - consistent, attentive and [[HIGHLIGHT]]overall wonderful. The real star, though, is the food. Everything I've ever had here was incredibly delicious. I really like that they have a bar bites menu and a regular dinner menu. The bar food is far from typical bar food. They are packed with flavor and upscale. The entrees - you really can't go wrong with any of them. My favorite entree was the swordfish. The feta and pepper cream were just the perfect proportion to the fish. A real standout is the sides. It should be noted that most entrees don't have a traditional side - you need to order them separately. But they are absolutely worth it. For drinks, my husband ordered the winter special cocktail- Cherry Bomb something ((cant' rem the entire name))--whiskey base-- he enjoyed it. For the food-- he ordered the Fish& Chips-- both of us really liked it --the fish was fresh although the fries were a tad salty but it was well received. I ordered the lobster roll which was 2/order & side of old bay fries- I wish they tasted the fries first as it was a salt bomb. My husband and I wanted to try a new brunch place for our anniversary and this place was on our list. We went here to celebrate Mother's Day and made a reservation. Due to it being a holiday we expected it to be crowded. We had a 5:30pm reservation and weren't seated until 5:55pm. The table we were seated at was extremely disappointing as it was immediately by the doorway limiting mobility for wait staff and customers. It appeared that this table location was only used to meet the needs of extra customers. The area we were seated in was noisy. The menu consists of numerous delicious options. I ordered bone marrow as my appetizer which took 45 mins to arrive. Fortunately the restaurant comped my order due to the delay. The beef carpaccio was disappointing as it resembled roast beef and lacked flavor. The main courses were delicious. I would have loved to give a 5 star rating however this meal took way too long. My husband and I were in Pittsburgh to get our nephew moved into college at IUP this past weekend. My husband's birthday was Saturday but weather was terrible and we spent much of the day on campus. I decided to try to do an impromptu surprise birthday brunch for him on Sunday. I called the restaurant to see if they could accommodate my party of 10 and explained to them it was a surprise. The staff was amazing from the hostess that greeted us and played along with my ruse, our servers, Christina and Parker (who were new servers but you couldn't tell), to the amazingly charming owner, Chef Ricky Kirsop, who came out to say hello and was gracious enough to take a picture with us. We ordered a variety of items to include the Cajun shrimp and grits, avocado toast, steak and eggs, bacon wrapped shrimp, pineapple upside down pancakes, cannoli pancakes, breakfast burrito, prime burger and more. Everything was served promptly, hot and the taste was amazing! You can tell the difference when restaurants use quality ingredients and take care with food preparation. We also had delicious cocktails including the Royal Hawaiian, the Patio Punch and the Guava Margarita. The restaurant is beautifully decorated with an upscale coastal decor. It set the tone for an elegant yet understated brunch that was perfect for our family celebration. We plan to return whenever we visit Pittsburgh. Hidden upscale dining near the mall with poor customer service ... Decided to go to Coast and Main on a Thursday night. We were celebrating a milestone birthday for my mother-n-law. The restaurant wasn't busy and didn't look like they had staffing issues. When we were seated, our waitress Mary Pat wasn't very inviting at all. She was a bit slow to get our drink orders initially. We were seated a little over 10 minutes when she finally got our orders. She also wasn't very knowledgeable about the menu when asked. We showed her a steak from a picture on the restaurant site and asked her if she knew the cut. She quickly stated that she did not know. At around 100.00 per person, it would have been helpful for her to be knowledgeable of the menu. "I don't know"was unacceptable; nor did she go to a manager or anything to find out. She was very dry and non-friendly until it was time for a tip. Bread was placed on the table which we devoured because we were so hungry after our workday when we got there but, she never offered us another serving. Food was good. We were a bit disappointed as you can tell with our experience. We ordered: crab bisque - which was good Crab Tots We also selected several salads from the menu / Caesar, wedge and chopped; which everyone seemed to enjoy. For our meals we ordered 2 ribeyes medium well and 2 porterhouse steaks one medium and the other medium well. Sides were: au gratin potatoes (which the waitress forgot to bring when she brought our food originally) when we mentioned this to her - she made it appear that "We" forgot to order it the first time. wild mushrooms Twice baked potatoes Grilled Onions My husband asked for his porterhouse steak to be cooked medium. It came out closer to well done and was very dry. We think the waitress served my husbands steak with another guest but he didn't want to complain due to the waitresses attitude. I convinced him report it to get it corrected. He did but he had to sit and watch us eat while he waited for the correction. Total bill for 4 people was over 400 dollars. We split the check and we paid with a credit card and didn't have a problem. Our other guest tried to use $ 200 visa gift card and had complications. Waitress stated some policy which allowed her to leave a balance on the card for a tip or something which he was asked to pay the difference in cash. For the price we paid, you could go to Morton's, Ruth Chris or Capital Grille and have had a much better dining experience; especially if it's for a special occasion. Would have been nice if a manager would've came around and checked on us like they do at other high end restaurants. Rating was for the overall food and experience. First and Last Time. It's an oasis in a high-end restaurant dessert in Monroeville. I'm not a fan of its location at the Monroeville Mall complex (hint: park near the Red Robin and Barnes & Noble as you walk between the two to get to the entrance). The bar area is in a separate alcove off the side from the host stand. There are booths and both round and square tables covered with linen table cloths in the irregular shaped dining room (creates a sense of more privacy from other diners). While not a favorite, I have eaten here a few times as there are not many other similar options nearby and I have always enjoyed my food and drinks. p.s. This Illy Philly ventured east to meet a friend for libations and sustenance and encountered a restaurant with elegance, great food, great services and lovely libations. Whan I entered the restaurant I was greeted with a smile and headed over to the bar area. I really like that it had its own room away from the restaurant. It was cozy, the lighting was nice and the Bartenders were knowledgeable, friendly, and gave great conversation while attending to their customers. They didn't miss a beat. Both Bartenders Danielle and Robin(?) really made the night enjoyable, and they gave great suggestions from the menu that prompted me to order the the Crab Tator Tots which were these little bite size tator tots filled with crab and cheese, the Sautéed Asparagus, a Crab cake, and The 22K for my drink which was a delightful concoction of Champagne and raspberries...I can't remember and I should have taken a picture of the menu, but I have great picture of the drink! I also ordered a Northwest Berry Julep that was wonderful, too!!! The Chef, Ricky Kirsop, is really doing wonderful things at Coast & Main, and even though they don't have anything vegan on the menu (hint, hint) I will be back on my cheat days! read more

Have been wanting to try here for months. We finally made it to brunch. The ambiance isn't necessarily my vibe but I can set that aside. Our server (Jess) was super nice and accommodating to our 3 year old. I ordered the crème brule waffles and oh my...best waffles ever. It was basically a dessert. My wife ordered the chicken and sausage gravy sandwich which I tried and I was very impressed with. My dad ordered the burger which he loved and also the bacon covered shrimp appetizer which was OUT of this WORLD good. My husband's cod was a nice thick piece of fish that was flaky but not flavorful. My branzino was very thin, and overcooked. I spent much time picking out small bones. The sun-dried tomato relish was flavorless. We had a nice waiter, however he was quite absent rarely checking on us. He spent much of his time sitting in a booth talking with a couple. The 4th setting, at our table for three, was never cleared away which got in the way of us trying to center the appetizers in order for us to share. The mixed drinks were good, but all in all the $300.00 bill was way overpriced for the quality of food and service. The food was quite tasty! I had the avocado toast and it was unlike any that I've ever had with little cranberries on it that I had no idea paired so well! The shrimp and grits were flavorful and had a spicy Cajun flare to them. Check out there brunch it's relatively new and I don't want it to go away due to lack of visitors. Hoping to bring awareness to other great brunch spots here in the city of Pgh for all to enjoy and to keep our businesses flourishing.
