I have to say, junk removal prices are absolutely insane these days. For a trip to the junkyard (or…read morein some cases, a restoration business), charging people an arm and a leg is anti-consumer. Junk King is like most other options, unfortunately. The way they charge is not to benefit the customer, but their own circumstance. This means they will charge based on how much space your items take up in their truck. Even though, they get charged to drop it off at the dump the same rate we do (maybe even less because they make so many trips?). Why can't it just be a flat fee for items? For a love seat and a three seat couch, we were charged $218. The next lower tier would have been $168. Even $168 is tough when usually, you can get your local neighbor on Nextdoor to do it between $100-20. But I digress. Judging by their space in their truck, you could probably fit another two or three of what I had them take. On a positive note, they were able to come the same day, but their tactic of coming out to give you a quote after they look at it, more than likely, will get you to pay whatever they want because you just want the stuff gone. That's their tactic, I guess, although, I don't agree with it. I also don't like the idea of having my debit card entered manually into a phone. There should be a more secure way to pay. Have some cash ready if you don't want to pay with cards. If you have time, and aren't in immediate need of a removal, call a few other businesses around town before you call Junk King. You'll save some money.

I requested an appointment from them 3 days in advance from 5-7pm. On the day of service, I get a…read morecall at work to move my appointment to an earlier time. I was at work and couldn't have anyone come to my house right then, but I told them I would go home if it meant I could make their day shorter by moving my time up. Matt on the phone told me the new time would be 2:30-3pm. I leave work early to get home by 2pm to wait for their call. I finally get the call at 5pm with a nice man on phone saying that it would be another 20 minutes before anyone can get to me. Trusting Matt, I made plans for 6pm, and no longer had any time for someone to come over. It was a very disappointing experience where I tried to make their job easier, but it ended up costing me my day. They were nice on the phone, but how can I trust them after this?

On Friday, I had a bunch of yard cuttings and junk that I needed to be hauled out of my yard (along…read morewith 2 very heavy old planter boxes). I had several people offer to do the task, and settled on a fellow who was supposed to come today (Monday) to take care of it. After the time he was due to be here he let me know he was unable to do it so I had to scramble to find someone else. I found this company Slam Dunk Junk. I gave them a call and spoke with a very nice fellow, Scott who said that they could definitely take care of this for me today!! I sent him pictures of the 'junk' and let him know what the other fellow had quoted me, and he came in right on par with that quote! All along the day, I received updates about when the fellows would be here, when they were enroute and when they had arrived. The fellows that showed up, Connor and Tony, were polite and respectful and got right to work. It took them all of about 30 minutes to clear everything out that I needed removed! It was dark, but they had headlamps on their hats and did a fantastic job!! (they even did this with a stand in truck because their regular truck blew a tire and had to go into the shop!) From start to finish this was a smooth operation, VERY well run and managed and an EXCELLENT value for the cost of the job!! Hands down I will be calling upon them again, when I need stuff hauled off! Oh and after they were done, I received a message thanking me for my business!! Absolutely STELLAR!!

James Recycling is awesome! They provide a much needed community service for recycling plastics…read moreand other items (Styrofoam) that aren't collected curbside. The service is excellent and a good value. The volunteers are friendly and well organized with zones for different types of plastic. And the business was started by a person on the Autism Spectrum. As a parent of an adult child with autism, I know the struggles faced with employment and independent living. It warms my heart seeing James following his passion while doing good for the community and the environment. I used to have Ridwell collect recyclables at my home, but I didn't generate enough material to make regular collection worthwhile. James Recycling makes it easier for me to store items and drop them off when I'm doing another errand. I recently dropped off a mountain of Styrofoam (filled my trunk and back seat). They quickly got me checked out for about $12, despite it being busy with multiple customers waiting. Nobody waited very long. It was faster than checking out at the grocery store.

what a lovely group of people on a much needed, noble mission to make our world a better place…read more i stumbled upon james recycling depot on happenstance. like many of my neighbors and friends of the planet, my family and i have taken many steps to cut down on the waste we generate. and while we've strived to cut down on as much plastic as possible, plastic is so gnarly and ubiquitous that we inevitably have had a stash of styrofoam (ugh!) and some #2 small plastic vitamin bottles. enter the wonderful humans at James recycling depot! this weekend, i decided its time to finally tackle the pile and find a place to responsibly (as much as we can) give a second life, hopefully. james, 27 years old and on the autism spectrum is like me and you: we both have a deep passion for the environment and nerding out about recycling. at 17, james decided to collect plastic recycling from neighbors that wouldn't be accepted in commingled city recycling. fast forward to even talking with a local industrial plastic recycling company who made an exception to no household recycling after hearing about james and his story, the depot was born! in addition to styrofoam, james recycling depot takes hard plastics like clamshells, or even bread clips to lids, straws, contact lens blister packs and more! the key though is that items that are taken in our curbside are *not* accepted like cardboard or plastic film is not accepted (film is recycle+ or at drop offs at stores etc!) hours are on some weekdays, with a pop up event on a Saturday about once a month per what i gather. the website is definitely the place to know where to find the next collection event! there is a small cost to recycle some items like styrofoam (reasonable honestly: $10/45 gal bag) and plastics (a small box of supplement bottles ran us $1). card is accepted. i absolutely love that james provides employment and enrichment opportunities for individuals on the autism spectrum is so inspiring. also, i appreciate that you can reach out if reducing fees are an economic hardship. james recycling depot is a non-profit and donations are accepted. thank you, james and team! you all are incredible people.
