As far as sub sandwiches go this is the place! It is only open from 10-4:30 Monday thru Friday, so they are really there for your lunch needs. The service is quick, I got my sandwich in about 5 minutes even though there were probably 7 people in front of me. What makes this place better than your average sub shop is the bread, it is so soft and fresh, it really is a major step up from your Subway. Honestly the fixings are not above average, they're not below average either. The bread is what it is all about. The cost isn't too bad, about $9 for a pretty big sandwich, this thing will keep me full for hours. I usually take it to go, but there is plenty of seating if you want to eat in. read more

Why not good? Let me start with price. $12.25 for a regualr sub sandwiched. Bad enough if a good sandwiche. One thin slice of ham, folded in half, one slice eof American cheese, lettuce, one thin slice of tomato with mayonaise. The ham was tasteless, the bread was tasteless, the sandwich was tasteless. Our flight was late into Portland, it's almost 2:00 PM and we have yet to have lunch. Near our hotel tucked away in a strip plaza is Big Town Hero. We are hungry, not much around and therefore venture in to BTH or as my son calls it, Big Town Zero. We order at the counter; wife goes with the small Italian and I order the medium tuna. We go to order drinks and it occures to me that perhaps we should ask if their meal deal is cheaper than to order a la carte. Response is yes and we add the chips to our drink. Sandwiches come out and to our surprise they look pretty good. My wife seemed to enjoy the Italian and I thought the tuna was better than that found at Subway but not on my top 10 list at all. The cost of the lunch was around $19.00 and we were not disapointed. We felt the value was there. Big Town Hero is not a top 10 sandwich shop but it also is not Big Town Zero in our books. read more

In general, this is an awesome sandwich shop with great food and quick service. Today was rough, though. I tried to call in an order for takeout around lunch. I have a limited lunch break and work in a warehouse where it's not really possible to eat lunch on the go, so I try to save as much time as possible by calling ahead. The guy who answered the phone asked if he could put me on hold, but then just set the phone on the counter and seemed to forget about it. I listened to him take a few other orders with plenty of time to come back to me before hanging up and calling again, but because the phone was off the hook, I couldn't get through. No big deal -- I just drove over to place my order in person, planning on eating it fast on the way back. The same guy who left me hanging on the phone was at the counter, airpods in and acting a little spacey. We placed our order and there was no line so I didn't think there would be much of a wait, but by the time three other people had come and gone with their orders, I asked about mine. He had never sent it into the kitchen. After spending my entire lunch break trying to call in and then waiting for an order that hadn't been placed, I finally got back to work before realizing I hadn't gotten what I'd ordered...he hadn't even taken the order correctly. Big Town Hero is my favorite place to grab lunch, so I'm really disappointed by this experience. I don't blame the restaurant at all because these issues were caused by one guy who was maybe just having a bad day, but I will probably think twice about ordering again depending on who answers the phone. read more

Ah I love big town hero, and was super excited to find out there was one near my work! The I sandwiches are so delicious. The bread is always soft, not so crunchy on the top that it's hard to bite through. Their ingredients taste fresher, it just makes for a better sandwich. They also have a variety of other sandwich, and non-sandwich, options including paninis, soups, and salads. It's a very short walk from the surrounding businesses, and easy to find. The staff was quick and efficient during the lunch rush, and my coworker and I had our sandwiches very shortly after eating. Yes it's a little more expensive than say, subway, but it is so worth the extra dollar or two. read more

it's been a few years since I've been to Tigard Big Town Hero and boy have they gone downhill! staff was friendly and service was quick, but the sandwich was not even worth half of the ~$10 cost. Have you seen the memes where they show a sandwich with a little triangle of cheese at the very edge of the sandwich to make it appear as if there's a full slice in there? that is similar to what they do here! The meat and the cheese triangles and tomato slices were carefully placed at the outer edge of the sandwich to give a nice appearance but the inner half of the sandwich had nothing on it! Also very skimpy on condiments. Def my last visit here! read more

I ordered an artiparm, and asked to add tomatoes. The lady said it had tomatoes on it already. I got my Order to go. When I opened it there was no tomatoes and the amount of artiparm mix was a paper thin amount, not even sure how they got it so thin. read more

Another workday in the suburban wasteland, another noon-time lunch hour lacking creativity, another trip back to the good 'ol standby, Big Town Hero. I work in a place that sucks. Good food does exist nearby (see my "Tres Hermanos" review), but I have to brave the chaotic s**t-storm clusterf**k that is the Hwy. 99/217 interchange to get there. Less than 3 miles as the bird flies, yet over 35 min round trip by car. SCREW THAT! So unless I am motivated to travel or am dead set on some specific lunch item, I usually end up cruising down the street to BTH for a hot sub injection. Picture the penultimate bland corporate business park tableau: low brick buildings, manicured greenways, lots of middle-class-y looking people dressed in business casual stumbling half-blind into the midday light of the scary outside world, fixing their gaze across the parking lot at the BTH awning and semi-consciously staggering across the parking lot toward their lunchtime goal. Then picture me in my semi-lucid yet totally apathetic state driving haphazardly at about 45mph across the parking lot narrowly missing two mustachioed men with plaid button-up shirts tucked into Levis who weren't watching where they were going... the bleating of my 1987 Acura horn waking them ever so gently from their CorporateZombie mental state. I think to myself "Damn, I need to get a job downtown, where the pedestrians are fearless yet ever vigilant, ready to physically do battle with any car smaller than a jacked-up F150." I slide into the nondescript parking lot and slip quietly into the long, yet quickly moving line at BTH. I attempt to be discrete. "I am CorporateZombie too, fear me not, do not take notice of me... I will take my sandwich and leave, I swear. I do not come to hurt you or attempt to confront you with the reality of your drab, suburban existence. I promise, let me have my food and I will leave in peace. Please do not try and eat my brains and/or sell me insurance." I chant the mantra over and over in my head, hoping nobody will notice that I am an outsider. I reach the front of the line in no time, and order my $7+change 12" Tuna sub on onion bread from the chipper and friendly counter-person. The sandwich machine is set in motion. Within mere minutes I have a hurkin' huge sandwich in my hands and am out the door faster even than I entered. Once in the safety of my chariot, I press firmly on the gas pedal, not letting up even an ounce until I am long free of the corporate-park-wasteland-zone. Once my escape is complete, I space out while driving the few moments back to my office (in the suburbs, you have to drive either spaced out or deeply entranced in a cell phone conversation, or the cops pull you over and tell you to slow down and trance out). I attempt to slip in unnoticed, highly apathetic about my lunch, yet eagerly awaiting a full belly. I enjoy my sandwich immensely. BTH does make a damn fine sub. It's expensive, but the 12" could easily feed 2. I always remember that AFTER I have devoured both halves, straight to my dome. BTH comes though again in a pinch, allowing me a delicious lunch without the hassle of thinking about anything besides whether I want tuna or BLT. I sit in my cubicle, leaning slightly forward, listlessly gazing at the computer monitor in front of me... deep in a food coma. I fit right in. My food-induced stasis closely resembles the common mental state of my CorporateZombie neighbors. I go unnoticed yet again... my brains still safe inside my head, the BTH safe inside my belly... I live to lunch another day. So, is anyone looking for a law clerk downtown? read more

I usually order the same type of sandwich at any sammy-making location... something with turkey and veggies. I'm a simple kind of gal, and I always order all the fixins. Since moving to Portland, I've seen Big Town Hero locations all over the city. I had avoided the chain at first because I didn't know much about it. While out in the field this week, I stopped at this location... and there wasn't much of a choice anyway with all of the business park buildings cramping any food-focused businesses. The older woman at the register was super cute, and very speedy. I was out of there in about 5 minutes flat! The sammy wasn't a disappointment, but I took off a star for the oddly chewy turkey. So, I have not eaten here because of their dietary options or lack there of. I am gluten-intolerant and allergic to dairy. They have a gluten bun available....in a MINI version of whatever sandwich you want.....wait for it......but you get to pay $1.50 more.....for a MINI sandwich. I'm not a fan of businesses that charge extra shit just because it's a dietary alternative. I would have had no issue if it was 75 cents more at THE SAME SIZE OF SANDWHICH. One of the few remaining BTH's I've seen. The star of the show for me has always been their delicious bread and it still is. So soft and delicious! Space is nice and clean with plenty of parking. If your looking for a delicious sandwich then this is always a good bet. They now do paninis which I'm told are delicious. Steer clear of the macaroni salad. read more

I gave them another chance after a previous poor visit. Today, the woman at the front counter said "hi," then went back to ripping pieces of paper for 45 seconds. The only other words out of her mouth were, "what can I get you?", "what's your name?" and "do you want a copy of the receipt?" Very poor customer service.
