There seem to be 2 different payments that are to be made: 1 for the hotpot soup base and then another for the All You Can Eat food available. I can't be certain if that is standard practice for similar establishments. Service at the restaurant can be improved. After being seated, it was quite a while before I was able to get anyone's attention for us to start our orders with choices of hot pot soup base. I also remember that I had to actively request for the dining bib instead of it being primarily offered by them. There was a good variety of available skewers. Many of the seasoned or marinated meats are tucked away inside the fridge. I do wish there are a little more ready-to-eat food present. Each individual gets their own pot so you can choose the soup base of your own liking. The soup base avgs between $8-$11 depends on which one you like. I ordered the pork bone soup which I found flavourful. Concept is like most hot pot places where you make your own sauce and ayce. However it's unique in a sense that it's skewers instead of dumping it in the hot pot and having a tough time scoop it out. There are items that require the dumping in but nonetheless the skewers definitely smooths the process out. There is also AYCD sodas which you can grab as you like. Service was good but we were sat in no in the main dining area so often time, it was hard to find a server to order more plates of beef and lamb which only you can get from the server. Plates of beef and lamb can be ordered from the servers. Variety and quality was a bit lacking and the quantity in the fridges could be replaced more often since the people go hammmmm and grab everything all at once. After about 5 minutes, they gave us a larger table (fitting 6 people) when we had a party of 4. This was nice as it gave us more room on the table for our food. This is an all you can eat spot, but will have to pay extra per hot pot soup base. The only two meats that are served to you are sliced beef and sliced lamb. All other food items are self serve in their refrigerator area, so you will have to get up from your seat to grab your own food. All their foods are skewered on bamboo sticks. Apps bar consist of fried spring rolls, fried baos, cucumber app, and fruit to name a few. Sauce bar also has all the items you'd need to make the perfect concoction. I got the tomato soup base and it was perfection. Nice and tangy, sweet, and flavourful. I liked that there was a large variety of foods available, I would say, more than most hot pot places. Having passed by this place a few times we did not really know what to expect except skewers hah. We got a seat around 6pm on a Friday night but the place got packed soon after so arrive early if possible. When seated, they will ask if you want a bib/apron (disposable plastic one). From the menu, you can pick your soup base and they have a few non spicy and many spicy options with different spice levels. The spicy pots are more expensive than the non spicy just fyi. All food items are self serve near the front along with a decent sauce bar. Only plates of sliced beef and lamb you have to request from server (unlimited). We ended up with the less spicy beef oil one and the mushroom pork bone (so much coriander!). Overall we found the quality of the meats pretty good and the slices were thick and not too fatty. They had tons of skewer options (meat and veggies) and random vegetables and noodles at the self serve pantry. I liked how the pots are quite high and easy to cook all the skewers (loved the shrimp!). They even had small abalone. Came here on a Wednesday night. Not too busy. I would just call ahead if you coming in as a group of 5 or more! Just so you get a guarantee seat! Walked in the door, greeted right away. They also have free chips to eat if there is a wait line. Such a nice gesture! Everyone gets there individual pots. Perfect for groups of friends that want to try different soup base, or people that cant eat spicy. The pot came in a minute. SPEED IS REMARKABLE! I ordered the legend spicy soup base. Medium heat. If you cannot eat spicy, go the lowest chilli level, or just order non spicy soup base and get condiments with spicy chilly and oil. Ye Skewers Hot Pot is one of the newest in a long line of modern Asian restaurants that are reinventing the classics. And how perfect, there are like 5 bubble tea places surrounding Ye Skewers to help counteract all the sodium and spice in those pots. Ye Skewers is definitely a fun place (albeit a small place, was running into people's tables left and right). It's pretty special watching a bundle of skewers stick out of your pot like some sort of delicious soupy incense holder. You get your own individual hot pot with a selection of very rich broths (pork bone, tomato, spicy, etc.), then you head out into a buffet area where you get your pick of hot pot favourites and a couple of surprises too. Beef tongue, bamboo shoots, pig AND duck blood, seaweed, Korean rice cakes, quail eggs...easily over 100 bite-sized options. On top of which, their noodle varieties are way above average. Sure, you get instant ramen and udon but you also get things like taro noodles, spinach noodles, and thick hand-carved noodles (which were SO good!). They've got a meat fridge full of skewerd raw, marinated beef pieces wrapped around the weirdest variety of food I've ever seen. I'm talking about spicy beef wrapped papaya...beef wrapped pineapple...beef wrapped avocado. It was really strange and not my thing, but hey, maybe some people like their fruity beef. I'd rather stick to the all-you-can-order plates of high-quality fresh beef, lamb, and pork. After you're good and full, they serve up surprisingly delicious vanilla soft serve. As fun as this place is, there were a couple cons which contribute to my 3-star rating. First and foremost, I just don't think I can justify the price of this place. It's close to $35 on top of which you pay $10 for a soup base. Then you have to pay for drinks. I just don't get these new hot pot places that nickle and dime you so hard. Secondly, maybe it was my corner of the table but I got stuck with pretty shitty ventilation. Hot pot steam was practically blowing in my face all night. The skewers is a cute touch but does tend to make plating difficult when you're trying to pile on multiple things at the fridges. They have a a few unique options including frog and duck blood. The restaurant seems clean with staff milling around to collect plates and clean the floors when things inevitably get dropped. The meal also includes about 5 kinds of appetizers which is mainly asian ingredients to form a salad like seaweed salad, julienne cuttlefish with spicy hot sauce served cold, fried mini veggie spring rolls (factory made style) , northern style plain baos. Slices of fatty lamb or beef are included with the ayce. No hot tea and the server didn't come once to check in on us or re fill our cold water pitcher. Arrived at 7pm on a Tuesday and the restaurant was pretty empty. I was excited about my first dining experience here as I heard good things! But after trying, it's nothing special other than their food being on skewers! Contrary to other hot pot restaurants where they bring you what you order, you have to go to the fridge to get the skewers that you want aka buffet style. I felt the selection of Veggies and non meats were pretty standard. Nothing memorable. They do have premium lamb and beef that you have to order off the menu that's included in the AYCE that they bring out for you. I actually thought these unmarinated meats were better than the marinated skewer ones! The rest of the meats are marinated on skewers in piles in another fridge. This looked very unappetizing for me as I don't know how long all that meat has been there! I'm pregnant and I have to be careful with what I eat and ensure ingredients are fresh. I didn't find the meat skewers especially tasty either. Needless to say I didn't go back for seconds. Also All the skewers only had a couple pieces on there which is such a waste of skewer sticks! Why not pack more food on there? I usually would opt for the pork bone soup base but didn't want to risk it as another reviewer said they got food poisoning from that? The overall experience of this place was good, but I just personally can't justify spending the price that this place charges on hot pot. The positives: - The service is a 10/10. Servers are friendly, patient, super attentive, and take initiative. They have a good server:table ratio so someone's always around and actively looking out. - They have a good variety of items... they have all your basics and some unique items too. For instance, their skewers come in a variety of things wrapped in beef, like pineapple, avocado, enoki, green onion, etc. - I love that they provide compensation for wait times. I received a free dessert for waiting half an hour. They write down the time you arrive, and check the moment you're seated. The server brought out our complimentary dessert right away without us even acknowledging anything (we technically waited 29 minutes and I wasn't sure how nitty gritty they'd be). This was a nice added touch, similar to how they have chips at the front for you to enjoy while you wait or take as you leave. - Their soft serve is yummmm. The downfalls: - The price, as previously stated. As their base price is already pretty steep, you're also forced to pay for a soup base per person because you are given your own pot, unlike other restaurants which give you the option to share a pot or have a default soup option you don't have to pay extra for. - I'd also recommend that they spent more time maintaining the buffet area. I really didn't enjoy how the fridges were nasty to touch as the handles had a slimy residue from people touching the meats/skewer sticks. I felt this way about some of the other stuff too, like the spoons used at the sauce station and the tongs used to take other buffet items. Overall, this place is solid. Service is excellent, food is decent, although I wasn't much of a fan of their more unique items. The original restaurant name was release the kraken from your backend. Legend of Spice is no joke. I enjoy spicy food but their spicy soups, even at the lowest spice levels are stupid spicy. It was spicy for the sake of being spicy. I couldn't taste much of the food that was cooked in the spicy soups. The flow of work to get food in your mouth goes as follows: 1 Choose from 6 different soup bases per person. 2 Walk over to the crowded mystery sauce making station. 3 Make your mystery sauce with mystery ingredients that aren't labelled. 4 Grab a plate to pack food on. 5 Continue to a nook of the most inefficient layout of sliding door fridges to grab different meats, veggies and seafood. 6 Wait for people to grab their food on one side of the fridge while the sliding door is closed on your side. 7 Slide the door in front of you open and have a mob of hands reach over your smacking raw meat in your face (which you may or may not enjoy.. but you must since you're here). 8 Be a savage and grab a hand full of skewers of food and load up your plate. 9 Repeat steps 6 to 8 up to 4 times at the different fridges. 10 GTFO and back to your unbearably spicy soup base. 11 Boil your food. 12 Finally consume while fearing the ring of fire that will ensue the next day. You pay $30 plus $6 - $12 for a soup base per person. It ends up being around $50 per person to gather your own food and cook it yourself. Genius business plan. February 06, 2019 - So I've never had HotPot before.. and wow I really liked it! The staff there was excellent all friendly and polite. Throughout my meal I accidentally dropped my chopsticks like 2x but a server came right away and gave me new ones. But there was a male server he was amazing from the start to end. There was a lot of different meats to pick from and different vegetables and noddles also. I ordered the Legend spicy Soupbase and my cousins ordered the homemade Pork Bone Soupbase. I will say this I love spicy food, and when I ordered my Legend Spicy Soupbase I ordered mild. But, the base is not mild at all. It was quite spicy, more like medium. Be careful for those who can't take the heat. I will go back but the next time I'm getting the homemade Pork Bone Soupbase. Overall it was a very good experience! read more

Food was amazing. Recommend staying away from the spicy broth if you aren't used to numbing spice. Service was great, always had someone coming by checking if we needed anything. ( more water in the broth. The fresh lamb and beef is so good here. Definitely will be back soon. read more

Named changed perhaps a change of ownership as well?... food quality has went down since they opened... a very traditional hotpot which is done in China. Broths use to be very flavourful but now it's rather bland... their broths are also very spicy so I would recommend either little spice or just normal. It's a really neat place where it's pretty much self serve. All the food is in the fridge. Most of the meat is in skewer form(uncooked). Sliced meat must be ordered through the server. 10% off if you pay cash. Washrooms are somewhat filthy.... Staff are very attentive and friendly.
