I love hot pot and trying new places. This spot was mid-tier in my opinion. They had lots of options to build your bowl like the classic beef rolls, lamb rolls, basa fish, shrimp, and so much more. I liked that they had quail eggs and hard boiled eggs as well. I ordered the spicy mala broth and thought it was just okay. Not as much flavour as other similar broths that I've tried. It is mainly self serve as you grab your own water cups and fill them at the bar. The staff restocked the sauce bar quite often. There wasn't any sriracha to add but they had hot chilli oil, soy sauce, sesame seeds, garlic, oyster sauce, cilantro, green onions, and more. Overall, I think this is a fine place to stop in at for lunch or dinner, but not my favourite. read more

What a delightful surprise! Hungry, we walked into this welcoming place. Staff are super helpful and walk you through the format. You start by grabbing a bowl and tongs. Walk down the line picking out your items for your hot pot. There are meats of all kinds, fish cakes, vegetables, and more. Once you're done, they weigh your bowl, you pick your broth, and they give you a number. Once it's done cooking, they will bring your bowl out. Then, you go to the sauce and condiment area to add more spice and flavor to it. My bowl hit the spot! I added mushrooms, sprouts, crab meat, bamboo, garlic, chili oil, and more to it. read more

Came here with a group of 5 during a busy time of day. The servers accommodated our group and helped us to understand how the flow of things go. The wall of toppings was amazing, so many options to choose from. Surprisingly affordable for the amount of food I got, and everything tasted amazing. read more

Dropped by for a quick lunch but my bowl took longer than expected and they ended up making the wrong soup base. I didn't have time for them to remake it but the Tom yum wasn't my favourite. The server was apologetic and gave me a free drink which was nice. The food selection isnt as big as other malatang spots and there's no free desserts like at Hi Bowl and Souper Hot Pot down the street. read more

So after a monumental snowstorm and having missed breakfast, I really wanted something to warm me up, and a hot pot seemed like just the thing. The day after the giant snowstorm meant I could easily get a seat for lunch here. Other times I've passed by, the place has been packed. It's a simple concept. You grab a bowl and a pair of tongs, and make your way down the line, picking your vegetables, proteins, and starches. I got some dumplings, some thinly shaved beef, some lotus root...anyway, the selection seemed very good and everything tasted fresh. You choose a broth and pay. After you pay, you can build a sauce bowl with soy sauce, sugar, sesame paste...again, lots of choices. I'll just say the homemade chili oil is the real deal. If you spend $25 before tax, you get a free drink. My broth was the mushroom one. It had a pleasant mild taste. When I added my sauce directly into the bowl, everything changed. Everything tasted fresh. Things cooked for the same amount of time, so raw shrimp got a little bit chewy, but that's nothing I didn't expect. The seating is a bit weird. One huge communal table, and then some four sets along the front and left wall. And a big bar taking up some real estate just behind the communal table. So if you go there when it's packed, maybe expect to rub elbows with a stranger. Service was efficient, and then friendly. Ambience wise, the music had some curse words in some of the songs. If that would bother you, then maybe find a different place. Like others have said, the price is $3.99 per 100 grams. I got a lot of food, and paid under $34 with tip included. Would definitely go again, but am eager to try out other hot pot restaurants in this winter weather. read more

There is no host, when you first walk in you can find your seat or get started on picking out your ingredients. There was a good variety of ingredients, I was surprised that they had crawfish, oyster and octopus. The service was quick and the restaurant was clean. The music was a little too loud for my liking. We both got the malatang hot pot soup base and filled up our pot with as much as we wanted! Mine came out to around $15 and I enjoyed the seafood balls, udon, and sweet potato noodles. I found the broth was quite rich and flavourful. Everything was piping hot. I understand because they throw everything in at the same time, it does affect the done-ness of the ingredients (like my broccoli came out SOFT SOFT). Tried out top hot pot during a weekday night - wasn't too busy and we were seated immediately. It's your typical DIY hotpot place, where you grab a bowl, pick any ingredients, weight your bowl, and pay by the weight. It was $3.99 per 100g I believe! They had a fair amount of ingredients to choose from - almost the same as the other DIY hotpot spots in Toronto. But I found that they had more soup base options - about 10. We tried out their pork bone and Korean army stew soup bases which were pretty good. They also have drinks to choose from - the yuzu soda was our favourite from the ones we tried. You pick from fresh meats, veggies, noodles, and unique items like duck breast and abalone skewers, all priced at $3.99 per 100g, which is perfect if you want to go big or keep it light. I went a little overboard on the endless ingredients option because I always have difficulties picking when there're so many options given, while my boyfriend went a little bit of each ingredients he liked. We were told their broths are made fresh daily. You can even ask for less salt! I picked the Spicy Passionfruit Soup as the name caught my eyes and it was the right decision- it's sweet, tangy, and has a nice spicy kick. My boyfriend opted for the mala spicy broth and absolutely loved it with just the right amount of heat for him. This self serve malatang hot pot spot was the worst I have ever had. This restaurant feels like if someone was trying to copy Big Way or Souper but doesn't understand how Malatang places work. Out of all the dry broths i've tried, i've never received a bowl so wet. When I asked the worker if this was the correct order he said that was their dry bowl. he went on to explain that their dry bowls are just the regular bowls with the liquid drained so the water was normal for them. Very catered to western ideology of asian food. Cost more per 100g than other places. read more

This is a new "self-serve" hot pot place on the corner of Dundas and Bay in downtown Toronto. It opened around the end of May 2025 and used to be the "Small Pot" restaurant--the layout and furniture are almost exactly the same. Here's how it works: you grab a bowl and some tongs, pick up raw food items and add them to your pot. It's $3.99 per 100 g (except for the abalone). The food is weighed, you choose your soup base, you pay, and you're given a number; your food is brought to you once it's cooked. At this location, there are a variety of soup bases to choose from and a sauce bar. Service was generally good--staff checked in to see how we were doing, refilled our water, etc. For opening weekend, they offered free rice and free dessert (shaved "Milkis" ice). I'm not sure if that's a regular thing, but the shaved ice tasted quite artificial. There was also 50% the second pot for opening promo. Perhaps because they just opened, there were some logistical issues. It took quite a long time (10+ minutes) to line up to have our food weighed. The line forms right in front of the sauce bar, which makes grabbing sauces inconvenient. There's also a bar in the middle of the restaurant--maybe they didn't want to renovate the old space--but the layout could definitely be improved. The center features one giant communal table, which feels awkward seating-wise. When it gets busy, I can see this place becoming quite hectic, since you don't get seated until after you've weighed and paid for your food. I also found the ingredient quality a bit subpar compared to similar restaurants. The meat wasn't properly thawed (it was stuck in large clumps), the vegetables looked wilted, and the selection wasn't as extensive as elsewhere. Over priced for what you get. Expect to pay only $20 if you leave tons of things out. Many items are deliberately cut heavy. Potato and sweet potato can be cut more thin but they love to deliberately weigh things down as much as possible. Same with other food items. The ingredients were fresh and had variety. The spicy soup, however, was kind of bland and had no flavor. I couldn't taste the broth; it tasted like hot water with salt and some chili oil. Has awkarded long tables in the middle of the restaurant. One of the staff members was mean to us even though we pay tips, and most of the service was self-serving. I really want to give one stars overall because of the bad service, but to be fair the food was not toxic and edible. First, the soup base was rather plain compared to other similar hot pot restaurants. If you have rather bland tastes then you can come here. If you are used to more flavour then I wouldn't come here especially their service is bad. One waitress in particular yelled at us when we told her that the table we wanted to sit at needed cleaning. We wanted trays from the previous customers removed. Over half of the restaurant was empty but they had a few tables that still had a lot of trays on them and we just wanted to sit at a four person table for our group instead of the 16 person long table that is in the middle of the restaurant. She yelled to us that there are other clean tables instead of just helping us remove the trays. The other waitress seemed decent and mostly did all the cleaning while the mean waitress didn't do much. I feel bad for the other waitress that she had to do work for two people. read more
