This place is part Chipotle...in the sense of using higher quality ingredients, not giving its patrons salmonella...and Taco Burrito King. It's delicious fast food without all the grease. This place is right across the street from my apartment and they're open late -- aka perfect for when you're super hungry and nothing else is open or you don't feel like going anywhere. Those are literally the only 2 reasons why I've ever come here. The food is consistently disappointing. I've tried the bowl, burrito, and chips w/ queso. Everything is less than average. Literally no flavor and the food is always lukewarm or even cold. The queso turns into a rubbery mess as soon as it begins to cool and even reheating it doesn't help. The horchata is probably the only redeemable thing on their menu. Don't bother eating here unless you really have no other choice. Great spot. They're keeping it simple & very reasonably priced. One of the few modern Hispanic restaurants that maintains a sense of authenticity. They support an independent soda company, Stubborn Soda, which they serve in bottle & fountain. There are some classic flavors & some unique flavors. I was actually able to get a veggie-friendly avocado torta (which I smothered in their house salsas)! Delicious, filling, and at $4.79, super easy on the wallet. Honestly I am very saddened that I am writing this review. But what a huge freaking let down. In just a few months this place went from good quality to straight garbage. You serve nonfresh, sometimes spoiled proteins and greens. You smother your burritos with sour cream and sauce because your ingredients are yacking. I don't know what this place is known for but I know it can't be chicken tacos or salsa. Burned on grill marks left a bitter after taste. The red salsa which was actually dark brown was watered down and tasted like no other salsa I've had in my life and different in a bad way not a good one. I know near north restaurants are notoriously expensive but $3 for 1 very small taco isn't good. I Don't share the census 3.5 star enthusiasm. We are a family of four from out of town looking for a fairly inexpensive Mexican style restaurant. The reviews were good, but I was unsure of how the soda selection would go over with the kids (not big chain brands.) Let's just say that both the food and the sodas were a huge hit. We had chicken nachos, steak tacos, chorizo tacos, and chicken tacos. All of it was amazing. Even the picky 7 year-old raved about the food. Even the sauces were great (though lacking a bit of heat). Heard that food was very good, but my wife and I were disappointed. My skirt steak tacos were difficult to eat because the meat was not at all tender. The beans and rice were good but consisted of half beans and half rice in a very small cup container. So my lunch cost $10 and not only was I disappointed but I left still hungry. This place was okay. It's like a copycat of Chipotle, but not so much flavor. It definitely taste more of an authentic Mexican restaurant, but not so great on flavor. I know it's called big wig tacos and burritos so i figured I would go with the burrito since I was really hungry. What a big wig mistake. Maybe I was doomed regardless!? The quality of the food is horrible. The chicken was fatty, rubbery and tasteless, the rice and beans were flavorless. The only thing that made my burrito eatable was probably the pico and me literally starving. I bought two thinking i would eat one later but if anyone wants it you can dig it out of my trash. It honestly was the absolute worst burrito I have ever had, including the ones for Mexican food day in my high school cafeteria. I'm not expecting anyone from this business to write a response to this review or even read it for that matter. Came here with my girlfriend for some lunch after she found it here on yelp. The pictures made the food look good, but we had to try it for ourselves. I had myself the skirt streak bowl and it was great! But the chips and salsa was average. You'll definitely feel full with the bowl alone. The ingredients used looked and tasted fresh. The kitchen preps one order at a time on a flat top that can handle four or five? And they constantly get orders wrong - ask for additions to their standard options for toppings and you'll only end up with the additions, not the standard stuff. I work for a company where we order lunches for people everyday. Due to covid, I have been trying to minimize the amount of times I touch their food. I placed an order on 12/16/21 for a group of 14 people. Since a few people ordered tacos, I tried to call to see how I could determine the difference between mahi-mahi, chicken, and steak tacos without having to open them. Someone kept hanging up the phone at the Lasalle location. That was at 11:15am. I had to open all the tacos when they arrived. I just called again at 4:10pm. They are still hanging up on people. I believe courtesy is about 50% of what makes a good business. If the phone is broken, you should fix it and maybe we can try again next time. If not, you might want to talk to a few people about communication and bad reviews. I have to say, the tacos, bowls, and burritos were good. This could have been a better experience. read more
