Ambiance: The restaurant is a nice spacious place with very beautiful wood framing and iron accents, it's a comfortable place to be and they have covered patio seating when the weather allows. Service was a little sluggish when we went and food took on the longer side to come out but my parents who come here often said they're usually better. Food: Pulled Pork Nachos - The toppings are fairly sparse and the pulled pork is only just fine. It really needs something to amp the flavor up like more acidic tomatoes, a stronger pork rub, or punchier drizzle. 3/5 Fried brussels - For enjoyers of this vegetable, this is a good appetizer. They're lightly crispy and well seasoned with the sriracha honey glaze rounding out the bitter profile of brussels well. 4/5 We split a Whiskey Burger and Spicy Bacon Ranch Burger and honestly both were nothing special. The meat didn't stand out in any way. It wasn't particularly large, it wasn't smoked or seared specially, it just tasted like a regular patty. The toppings were fine but I wished there was thicker glaze or they gave you some aoili on the side because they were somewhat dry overall (not the patty itself but the entire burger) 3/5 The regular fries are good, I'm a fan of thicker cuts and these were still crispy. 4/5 The truffle parm fries were drenched in truffle oil which made them soggy and were way too over-powering 1/5 Overall I don't think I'll be back. The restaurant and food itself is fine but there are other places I like better that have either better prices, higher quality, punchier flavors, or more creativity. Great conversation, attentive service, and my food arrived surprisingly fast. I ordered the thin crust pepperoni pizza, and it absolutely hit the spot. Crispy crust, plenty of pepperoni, perfectly melty cheese, and just enough seasoning to keep me reaching for another slice. The beer and cocktail selection is extensive, and if you're a fan of Hard Truth spirits, you've come to the right place. They also sell bottles to take home, which is a nice bonus if you find something you love. The restaurant itself is spacious with plenty of indoor seating, a beautiful wood-beam interior, and a large patio for nicer weather. Whether you're stopping in for lunch, grabbing a drink while watching the game, or meeting friends for dinner, it has a relaxed atmosphere that's easy to enjoy. We hosted our Psi Iota Xi sorority event here last night. The staff was so accommodating from the very beginning of making the reservation and allowing us to use the upstairs room. The day of our server Kia was probably the most amazing server I have ever had. We let her know our schedule and she met all of our needs. The upstairs room was perfect and gave the privacy we needed for this meeting. There were at least 17 of us and all of our food came together or at least within several trips up the stairs. Everyone in our group raved about all aspects of the evening. Looking at everyone's plates the food was all eaten. I have visited Big Woods several times when I am in Indianapolis. There is plenty of parking, with a lot on the side of the building as well as street parking. Service is very good here whether you sit at a table or at the bar. We had the pleasure of sitting outside on the patio on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. Our server (I believe her name was Brittney??) was one of the nicest and most hospitable people you could meet! She always had a smile on her face and was attentive to our table throughout the meal. We just had salads as we were heading over to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum for the rest of the afternoon. I selected the Apple Walnut salad, and it was impressive! The dressing (creamy vinaigrette) was served on the side, and it had plenty of apple slices, walnuts and bleu cheese crumbles. It definitely hit the spot. Big Woods is probably best known for their great burgers and pizza, but this salad was also high quality in and of itself. I always enjoy stopping in here when I'm in town. read more

I visit Big Woods about every two months. I haven't had a bad meal here once. However, I do wish they were more generous with their pizza toppings. Their staff is always friendly and I've never had to wait long to get my meal after ordering. They have a nice selection of beer and liquor. I tried a sample of their peanut butter whisky on my last visit and it is quite tasty. My go to though is their Strawberry Blonde beer when their Common Necessity isn't available. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich with fries. Very good. The inside has a nice size dining area with a rustic feel. Probably one of the worst dining experiences I have experienced in Indiana. Dined with 8 kids and 3 adults. Didn't get acknowledged once seated for over 30 minutes even asked for a server serval times. Appetizers were brought with main courses and everyone, ALL 11 meals, were cold and tasted awful. No manager ever came to discuss this with us after numerous complaints. We were just told "yeah we weren't ready for tonight". Restaurant was not even that busy. Waited in over another 30 minutes once we asked for the bill and had to go to the hostess stand to ask if we could get bill. 3 different people came to our table and asked what we needed, we said the Bill, not one of them brought it and we finally found our server 30 minutes later. First time here. My son and niece brought me here. First of all I used to live in Indianapolis and work in Speedway....20 years ago. It looked nothing like this!!! Back to the restaurant, beautiful building. Plenty of parking in the lot and street. There's a ramp as well as stairs. Hostess seats you. Booths and tables. Booths are spacious. Pretty sizable bar. I loved that the menu had familiar items but at the same time different and tasty items. We ordered the cheese bread as an appetizer. I mean it's just cheese bread. No big deal right? Wrong! Changed our lives! So darn delicious, I seriously could have stopped there. The cheese, the garlic, the butter ‍ All of our meals and cocktails were great. I can't remember what the bowl was called that I got but it had salmon, enough for me to have for lunch the next day and was outstanding, full of fresh plants. Our server, Meadow made the experience perfect. Loved her personality. She knew the menu well and made great suggestions. Wonderful server professional but personable. Apparently they have trivia on Tuesdays. I think I saw a room maybe for group gatherings. The next time I'm visiting in Indianapolis I'm coming back here. First time eating at Big Woods - Speedway When you walk in, you notice the huge size of the place, wood everywhere nicely decorated. I ordered the fish tacos, they were real nice, I also ordered their Chili, because I always try Chili at new places in case there is a chance it's over the top Chili. This Chili was 3.7 out of 5. My Wife ordered the pulled pork nachos and they were Excellent! , Our friends both ordered pizza and it also looked delicious. The Breadsticks were amazing along with the marinara and cheese sauce. This has been one of my formative dining experiences within the city of Indianapolis, and an INCREDIBLE start to race weekend. Chloe the bartender, was exceptionally charismatic and pleasant to interact with. The food was phenomenal, and a reminder of how great dining in the Midwest can be. First time visiting Big Woods with family. We stopped by on a cold Friday afternoon with a large group of 11 people. It was right around lunchtime and I assumed we'd have a wait, but lucky for us we were seated almost immediately. The restaurant is large and spacious. Unfortunately, we were seated in the way back by the outside doors, which were opened frequently by staff during our visit. Our server was attentive and nice. Got drink orders quickly and took then took our order. We started with the signature pulled pork nachos and cheesy bread for the kids. The breadsticks were loaded with cheese and the dipping cheese sauce (queso) was really good too. The kids devoured the breadsticks. They arrived quickly too, which is always a plus. The nachos were good, nothing special about them but the table was happy. I ordered the Asian chicken salad ($16.99) with grilled marinated chicken, Asian salad blend, candied cashew and pickled carrot. I don't remember the pickled carrot, but I know there were large chunks of raw brussel sprouts that I didn't eat on the salad. Overall it was an okay salad but I probably wouldn't order it again due to the raw sprouts. My kids ordered the butter pasta and kids pizza. The pizza was really good and seasoned well. All of the liquor here is Hard Truth - I wasn't partaking this evening but I thought it was an interesting thing to note as someone in my party was hoping for a Captain and Coke, but that wasn't an option. The server was helpful in figuring out a suitable replacement though! My burger was really good -- nothing particularly mind-blowing, but I don't expect that from a burger. This is a fun spot for a casual meal with friends! We have been here before and appreciate that they change their menu up at times to add/edit things and keep it fresh. They have staples but also some fun options that are new. Given a non-restricted diet right now I went for man n cheese side and a side salad. The sides were quite big considering, and it made a full meal! I loved that on the salad they had a variety of veggies as well as pickled carrots. Yum! The Mac n cheese was absolutely amazing and creamy, rich and decadent! I can't imagine what their full portion is like, but this side dish was delightful and just right in size. My husband had the portobello sandwich and fries and loved them, and said he especially appreciated the crispness of the fries. Our friends had a burger and the veggie egg roll, and also seemed to like their meals. Nothing was left on any plates if that tells you something! It is a long walk to enter and I am always out of breath. There is a gated somewhat short cut but the gate is always locked. Very poor planning. read more

Big Woods is located on the corner of Main and 10th Street in the historic downtown Speedway. Big Woods is located where Main Street T's into 10th Street directly across from Allison's. This is a strikingly beautiful rustic structure with large wooden beams, an open 2 story ceiling, comfy large booths, and the bar was designed in the shape of the IMS 500 track. Reservations are accepted EXCEPT for same-day reservations. Still show up as you never know how quickly things tables can turn over . There are 2 small parking lots surrounding Big Woods, with one to the west and entrance off of 10th Street and another by the beer garden with an entrance off of Ford Street or 10th Street. Parking is available on both sides of Main Street (except during the IMS 500 and Brickyard 400 race weekends). Big Woods has a cute covered patio with regular 4-top tables and several high-tops, which are perfect for people-watching. My only wish is for a dog-friendly patio on NON- RACE RELATED days. Of course, service dogs (meeting ADA requirements) are ALWAYS ALLOWED. The menu has many delicious options from the pulled pork nachos, chili, pizzas, fish, and chips, pulled pork sandwiches with my favorite truffle fries, burgers, portobello melt, Thai steak tacos to the Thai vegan red curry. The curry is very spicy, so be warned before ordering. However, if Thai spicy is your thing, I think you'll truly enjoy the vegan option with excellent flavors and fresh veggies. I also love the chocolate chip skillet cookie with vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce for dessert or the Nashville Fried Biscuits with apple butter and Hard Truth Toasted Coconut Rum sauce. Be sure to ask what the daily dessert choice is as it changes. Our server, Bobby C, was a pleasure the second he arrived at our booth. Met with a friend for lunch. He had eaten here before and I hadn't and wanted to try it. It wasn't too busy for a Sunday afternoon and we were seated right away. I decided not to get any alcoholic beverages and settled for just a regular softdrink, and my friend got unsweetened tea. I couldn't decide between the Thai green curry and the thai beef tacos and after discussing it with our server, I ended up going with the tacos. My friend chose the fish and chips with a small side salad. My friend's salad came 1st and he had chosen the creamy garlic dressing. But when we tasted it, it was very heavy on the garlic so we ended up asking for some ranch to dial down the garlic taste a little bit. My tacos came with a side of their version of elote corn. While the steak on the tacos was cooked to perfection and well seasoned, there was no other flavor. When you think thai, you expect either pickled veg or some flavors that remind you of thai food. The corn was also bland and I had yi add salt and pepper to it. The fish sandwich had tomato on it which my friend didn't enjoy so he removed it. The tartar sauce was also light on flavor and the bread fell apart while he was eating. Fries were good and well seasoned. We both agreed that if we dine here again, we would both pick something different and were not overly impressed. Great building on Main Street in Soeedway. Great for sports & big parties. Fantastic food! The employees are always courteous, but regularly overburdened. That said, we've always had great dining experiences. Great in-house (not on-site) brews are my favorite part of the experience b/c their Strawberry Blonde is one of my all-time favorite beers. And their porter is beyond reproach if a bit too sweet, it'll knock your socks off & keep ya tilty. Food options are great. Burgers, chicken, and entrees fit the bill. They do try to make a unique dining palette. Pizza is their specialty, but the best thing they have ever done is their pulled pork nachos. You could get the beer and the nachos & that would make your night tbh. They've dicked with the nachos over the years so it isn't quite the same as when they were one of the first in the area to introduce that dish. That said, it's still great. Quaff, you ask, well it's a verb pronounced kwof,/kwaf/kwawf, which means, "to drink heartily and with gusto". Anyway, going back to the drinks, they were delivered almost immediately after ordering. To make a looong, yet very interesting review short, we placed an order of cheese bread, a pepperoni/mushroom/chicken build-your-own calzone, burger, a six foot blonde Quaff ON! Blonde Ale, a bloody mary, and a couple desserts throughout our visit, and were presented with nothing with the best during our visit!! In closing, if you've read to this point and still are on the fence about stopping in, DO IT, you won't be disappointed. This place is so good, however, during a race weekend, there will be a wait. Not a great way to start our trip in Indiana. We flew from CA to visit Indiana for breweries and their famous 450 North Brewing Corn Maze/Beerfest. After flying about 5 hours this was our first stop to get a cold beer and a snack. We Lyfted to this location from the airport. It was around 4pm, slow with about 2 people at the bar and 2 people at a table. We walked in with all of our bags, took a seat at the bar and was not even acknowledged. Not even a "Hello, be with you shortly". We sat there for about 5 minutes and walked out. Interestingly enough, even when we left, we walked past an employee and she also didn't acknowledge us. The waitress was highly recommending the mac & cheese, but my dining partner ordered one of the taco dishes. Though she decided that since the waitress was talking up the mac & cheese, she would add a side of it. However there was a misunderstanding and the order was put in as mac & cheese as the entree only. I tried it and it was good but again not outstanding. The restaurant was nice and spacious. Well the service was slow getting to the table. But once she was there, she was very good. We got the pulled pork nachos to start with those were hit . I had a sandwich- the maple bourbon chicken. The caramelized onions were not caramelized. They were barely even translucent so I took those off. I got it with a barbecue sauce on the side( thank God because it did not match the favor profile) so without the half cooked "caramelized onions" or bbq sauce- i thought it was good. Sorry- but the fact that they charge 99 cents for mayo after paying so much for a sandwich is pretty sad. I guess they must be hurting for business .
