This was my first time in to this location of big Y. However, I've only been to big Y in total a few times cause they're not local to my house. This location was clean well kept, the shelves were fully stocked. I love that they have prepared foods that you can get, however I did not stop by. Their prices are OK. This big Y is an easy location to go to from my place of employment. The store is always fully stocked and very neat. Customer service was also good. There is a wide variety of food to eat in the café with plenty of seating. There selections include sushi, pizza, sandwiches, chicken, and a grab and go section. The floors were clean. The fresh fruit and vegetables was neatly organized, and all looked like good produce. There is plenty of parking making it convenient. read more

went to their store today to get the special of buying 4 Food Club (their store brand) Solid White Albacore tuna. That's what their weekly flyer for 6/20-6/26/24 listed. Well, lo and behold it's Food Club chunky white tuna that is on sale. This is classic bait and switch!! Big Y stopped making physical membership cards. It's all digital now. Could they train their cashiers to ASK customers if they have a membership?? The only way to get the discount with non-physical cards is to enter the phone number associated to the account. I am sick of having to ask to give my phone number. Shaws makes it easy by allowing people to manually enter their phone number on the payment card reader. How difficult could it be for Big Y to do the same?? Their bakery section does not stock angel food cake. There is one that shows up recurringly but it is expensive and revoltingly dry. Just came home with the worst Fish & Chips. See pic for the pathetically small amount of fish. It's mostly fries fir $9.99! We had ordered this in the past and had four times the amount of fish. Its doesn't even taste good. No seasonings. Not even salt in the batter. Just tastes flat and only a funky aftertaste. Never again! However, the manager is refunding my money. Two recent issues. Called pizza area to order 2 marguerita pizzas for supper last week. I was told they did not have the ingredients to make it. Don't understsnd-this is grocery store with all necessary ingredients to make my pizza as well as ant other pizza. Very dissapointing. Second issue today and most of last week. I liked Hannaford as everyone else. I hear from people time and time again that they really miss Hannaford and that Big Y just doesn't live up to the standard. Prices were cheaper, and service was more friendly is what I hear. While Big Y may have slightly better quality in terms of meats, deli, and produce, they definitely need to work on getting prices lower and service being more friendly. This specific location was given some attention and was renovated upon switching from Hannaford to Big Y, which was nice. Sort of unfair though.... my new local Big Y in Norwood, that also used to be a Hannaford, was given no attention what-so-ever. No remodel, no construction, no nothing, not even self checkout, so this store should be considered lucky! Lines are long almost all the time, and selection is subpar in many departments. On the bright side, store is organized and the shelves are consistently fully stocked. This specific Big Y is bright, spacious, and airy. I definitely prefer this location in comparison to the Norwood location as the ceiling is low there and the variety is considerably less since the store is smaller. It's okay, but I'll take the brand new Stop&Shop down the road any day in comparison to this place if I'm not coming here to use a specific coupon or get a specific sale. Okay. 3 stars. read more

Not sure why I never came here. Stores are extremely clean, frozen is always neat and organized which means a lot with so many bags of frozen stuff. Chicken from meat is really good and the seafood? This store has really deteriorated in the past year. Their prices have sky rocketed right past the competition. $8.00 for my favorite type of cereal??? When I was shopping today, multiple items I was looking at had passed the expiration date yet were still on the shelves. There was only one clerk at the deli counter and she said she was busy, though no one else was waiting. After more than 5 minutes I left. Their produce has never been up to the competition. I come here maybe once every couple weeks because I go to Milford or Hopedale for family things. We went quite a few times in the last three years when it was Hannaford without any issues. However, the last FOUR times I bought the non dairy creamer in the section near the "all natural" frozen area- the almond milk/ caramel flavored cream has been sour when I get home to use it. Literally thick and spoiled four times.. I could see if this happened twice, BUT, FOUR? So, Ive learned my lesson with shopping for "fresh or refrigerated" items. Wont be doing that again. Other than that- they've got a big gluten free section and vegan items. It's an okay place to stop for those things if you're in the area. I just had to leave a comment/ warning about the creamer situation. Maybe whoever is putting it away off the truck thinks since it's not real milk it doesn't need to be refrigerated right away? I have gone into the Milford MA locations several times to get lunch and do some light shopping. The lunch counter has been up for several weeks but the staff including management seem to not understand the pricing system. There is sometimes a line due to the fact that the employee is having problems at the register. Also, I went to the store looking for a particular item which they did not have. A new stop n shop opened down the road and had the item...I think the longevity of this location may be at risk due to competition. read more

Hannaford was a great store with great prices. Thanks to Stop & Shop/Hannaford merger, Hannaford had to sell the Milford store and BIg Y unfortunately bought it. Big Y is a big joke. Their prices are very high, and they give out their ridiculous gold coins as a "reward." Well, you have buy something to get your "reward." Their "selection" has been changing every week or every other week or so. What this means is that items that we normally buy have disappeared or the size has shrunk where the cost per item is more from no longer being able to buy a larger item at a better price point. They also have some products where they have the same item in a smaller package and in a larger package. For instance, the shake n bake box with 2 packets is more than 50% less than the box with 4 packets. So, the customer can buy 2 boxes of 2 packets each for less than one box containing 4 packets. I've seen that with other products, too. You really have to do your math here. Hannaford stocked Edy's frozen yogurt. Big Y continued it until very recently. Now they do not carry it anymore. There is hardly any frozen yogurt stocked at all. The Big Y store brand products are getting more and more shelf space at the expense of name brand items. Forcing a customer into buying the store brand is NOT a good thing! Not every brand name product has a corresponding store brand item that tastes the same. This is also a way for Big Y to make even more money by pushing people into purchasing their stuff. The canned tomatoes section (sauce, paste, stewed) has shrunk to a very small selection. Milford has a very large Italian population. I cannot fathom how they could think that stocking less in the area serves the customers. People in the aisles are not friendly. Hannaford staff were friendly and welcoming. The Big Y staff does not make eye contact or say hello or even offer to help. For shame! The front end is poorly run. They hardly have any registers open and resist opening up another register when the lines get longer. Hannaford did NOT operate this way. The lines at registers are becoming less of an issue. There does not appear to be a lot of customers here. The number has definitely dropped off. The prices and the choices I'm sure have something to do with it. Stop & Shop is building a new store in Milford, and I will likely move there when it opens. I hope that Big Y in Milford closes and does so soon. This chain sucks! I hope that Market Basket can take its place. So long, Big Y. I'd like to say that it's been good to know ya, but it has not! read more

I miss Hannaford....Big Y is definitely a great big WHY?! Prices are laughable. Literally, I look at stuff, its way overpriced and it is shameless. No reason for it. I shop every day as I cook fresh every day. I tried this place but they have such a confusing price policy it is impossible to figure out what is a good deal from the stuff so overpriced it is insane. If you want to get the "special" prices, you have to give them all your personal information, not online, but in writing like a job application. NOPE! That is plain stupid in this day where they could sell based on low cost, high quality and reward customers by keeping them coming back. In 18 years I have shopped here (Victory then Hannaford) it is now a great big turd in the middle of town. Good luck Big Y, I hope you learn that carrying cards allowing you to access my personal information to get the "preferred" prices you post is hurting your bottom line. I have spend thousands in this location but now only ever go here when it is my dead last resort for an item...never do I actually need a cart because I never buy more than 1 or two items that I absolutely must have. I was disgusted when I saw that this place made girls go outside at nighttime to collect carriages in a sketchy parking lot in a fairly sketchy area of Milford. This absolutely blew me away because the amount of people I've seen driving slow and checking out female workers is absurd this needs to me attended to ASAP, its wrong and not only that, unacceptable as well never have I felt the need to go somewhere else More than I do now I would rather deal with awful customer service than what I just witnessed. Parents imagine you 16,17,18 year old daughters being stared down by several people and groups of people and from what I've seen be followed. As far as conventional grocery stores go, I like the local hannafords best. They offer local produce, and the most natural products of the conventional stores (without preservatives). At one point, I put in a request for natural wraps, and they now provide them. I like the natural food section and I like the fact that it is segregated. Would like more fresh fish, as opposed to fresh frozen. Good prices on many products. read more

The prices are higher than other grocery stores however I figured I could run in and get what I needed for a concert and weekend away. Didn't have a lot of time. Picked up what I needed, most of it was on sale. I went to check out, I did t have a big y card since there is not one near I live. I asked the boy who started to ring me up if I could use the card they let customers use who don't have one. They said that they don't do that anymore and if I wanted I could go stand in line at the service desk, (which was 6 people deep) and get a card and get back in line. I told the boy I didn't have time and he said he couldn't help, so I left my expensive groceries there. I will never go to another big y again. Went to the Big Y today as I do on most days and was upset by the fact that whole sections of product have been moved! They just went to this location in September (why wasn't this done then), and it seems like that items get moved nearly every week. If I have to hunt for items, I might just as well go to the new Stop/Shop and learn their store set up or better still go back to weekly shopping at Market Basket. I want my Hannafords back. I know it won't happen but I am so let down by BigY. The prices are higher than I am used to and there are so many items no longer carried. The final straw was when I ordered rolls for my daughter's baby shower and they were stale. If I can't get fresh bakery items on the rare occasions when I need them then what makes the store special. And I frightened the cashier when she asked if I found everything I was looking for and I said no. She didn't know what to do when the scripted dialog didn't go as planned. And she couldn't help me find what I was looking for either. All the fancy jellies and teas don't work if you can't find what you are looking for. And don't be fooled by store brands in most cases they are not cheaper. The gold coin? They have been open since September. I usually run to Big Y during my lunch break if I forget my lunch. The last few times, they haven't had any Express Lines open and long lines in the regular lanes. I only have a half hour for lunch because I work in health care. I have to get in and get out quick, or I don't have any time to actually eat. Not only does the ridiculous Silver Card slow you down but because of these huge lines, it's extremely annoying and time consuming. Today when I ran there to get a couple of things, there were again, long lines and no express lines. Then we were directed to the self service lines (They're new) There was a line of people there as well, as the customers were unsure of how to use them. A manager came over to help the person who was stuck and I asked if there was any way they could open an express line, for those of us who were pressed for time because we were on a lunch break. She encouraged me to use the self check out but I said, "no! I don't have time for this!!!" I was fully prepared to leave my cart and walk away but she must've sensed my frustration and called for someone to get on another register. All I can say is once Stop and Shop opens next to my work, I will be going there!!! read more
