Mixed reviews had me nervous coming in. My aunt reported lackluster experience. My friend have been before and liked it (we went with them). Weather was perfect for the patio. Arriving at 7:30 We waited about 20 min to have a nice patio seat. By 8:30 there were a lot of empty tables. Drink menu has a of options. I had 2 cocktails, both excellent. I recommend "I'll have what she's having" We ordered Rosemary fries, risotto balls and Brussel sprout salad based on previous Yelp reviews. All were good, nothing new. I'm over fried Brussel sprouts at the moment so I would not order again. Risotto balls are tasty. We ordered 3 pizzas for 4 people. More than enough food (our friends are light eaters) and we had almost a full pizza to take home. The salami pizza was my favorite. Salami style pepperoni, kalamata olives and artichoke. The cheese was a little light. Italian sausage and peeper was good. The peppers are tiny little green ones (see picture). Bright vibrant color and flavor. Very GREEN tasting. Italian sausage, wax pepper and red onion pizza was good. Not my style but they liked it. A big concern was how burnt my pizza would be. Many burnt pizzas in Yelp pics. All of ours were cooked perfectly. No burnt, a little char, overall A+ This is similar to true Italian pizza. We spent a few weeks in Italy last year and I can honestly say it is a good likeness. Is it the best ever? Ehh I don't know. Crust is a little soft but I don't mind that. We are big fans of another za house on Woodward who has crunchier crust. We will continue to do carry out @c. Dine in might come to bigalora again. The train blasting by the patio adds some entertainment. On a perfect 70* evening like we had I love this place. Laid back, good food and great cocktails. Small parking area so either you are lucky and catch someone leaving (because they are always packed) or park short distance away and brave crossing Main Street. It was nasty and raining outside, so I didn't see what was on the ground floor as we ascended the stairs to the host stand for Bigalora. I was just glad the stairs were salted and made it up without mishap, while carrying a car seat. They do not take reservations, so be prepared to wait. If you are lucky enough to get a seat at the little bar or patio lounge area, your wait won't be so bad. We were told 25 minutes for a Four-top but it was only about 10 minutes. Just long enough for the guys to order beers. Two draft beers were $15. That was a surprise, but no matter. No highchairs to be had and the tables are really close together. Very modern and minimal decor, yet inviting and fresh. Good TV placements to keep up with the game while at dinner. The baby with us is an angel so no issue, but if you have an active one, I wouldn't recommend bringing him/her. The menu is perfect. Great selection without over-doing it. We ordered a bottle of Italian red that was just tasty. Pizzas are excellent and come out quick. The olive oil on the table is infused with a bit of spice, that is quite a surprise but quickly becomes addicting. Choose a pizza and customize, but if you are lucky, you have a fellow diner you can share with to order a pizza and pasta to try both! Don't forget the prosciutto. Oh my, it is simply the best. I ordered mine on the side to add to my pizza, as I went. My friend ordered hers on the pizza and it did go in the oven but wasn't compromised. Pizzas are fired for only about 5 minutes. Your food comes out fast! I had the mushroom white pizza and was very happy with it. My husband liked the little pepperonis on his pizza. Friend's pasta was excellent, fresh and looked like house-made noodles. I look forward to trying the gnocchi. The tiramisu was okay. It would have been better if it wasn't served mostly frozen, which was a disappointing. Texture is a big factor in this dessert. Olives, entrees, added prosciutto and two desserts was $50. The pizza was great. The girl who answered the phone was ok. She wasn't to pleasant and didn't explain things enough. Now we know there is only one size and we need a pizza cutter. Had no idea you didn't cut the pizza as 98% of other places do. I would probably have mentioned that to the customer who said this is our first time here. We always sit at the bar, and usually Rich is working. Always makes us damn good drinks, he has actually learned our palates - and we can just suggest flavors we are in the mood for. He has introduced us to many of our favorite spirits that we otherwise would never have tried. He is very imaginative with blending a simple, spectacular drink. He doesn't "overbartend" or talk your ear off like at many local bars and restaurants - but when we chat it's always really entertaining. Great guy! &, oh yea! Omg! So I stumbled upon this place based on yelp reviews and I'm so glad I did! Everyone recommended the Strozapretti Norton's and it really is soooo good. When I discovered it I seriously ate it like twice a week for a month. Obsessed, do you hear me?! Just recently, my husband and I were coming back from a trip and noticed that the airport had a Bigalora in it. How did we miss that memo? Either way, we popped in that bad boy and got a take-out order. The only reason I gave this place 4 stars is because the customer service isn't always good. I've been to the Royal Oak and Southfield locations and the waiters weren't very attentive. At the Royal Oak location, there's never anyone at the hostess stand and when they do come over they sometimes look as though I'm bothering them. However, it's not that bad to the point where I'd let them keep me away from that dish. We are in a committed relationship and I'm not going down without a fight! read more

I have been to Bigalora twice now. Both times I have had a good experience. It is accurately rated at 4 stars. Pros: an extensive liquor and wine menu, and half off bottles of wine on Tuesdays. A relatively limited menu of pizza salad and pasta which makes choosing a dish easier. Beautiful decor on the inside with vaulted ceilings. And the patio. It may be the best patio to sit on in Royal Oak. Right by the train tracks you can people watch and get a great view of the sunset. The pizza itself is great, they specialize in thin crust pizza with anything on top. I recommend the smoked salmon pizza, you won't be disappointed. If you're looking to be more on the traditional side the chicken pesto pizza is also a safe bet. The crust is crunchy and tasty and the pizza is cooked at such a high temp that the bottom of the pie doesn't get soggy. The cons: it is busy very often at dinner time. You may have to wait up to 20 mins but they do have a great waiting area. Also at the peak of their dinner rush it can take a bit to get the food out, so grab drinks and be prepared. Their bathroom for the whole restaurant consists of two single bathrooms, which both times I've had to wait in line outside of it like I'm at 5th ave. Overall: a great place to take a date, drink some wine, and sit out on the patio. read more

Unfortunately we had a bad experience here. I came with a group of people and two babies. When I asked if we could be seated on the main floor instead of upstairs, the hostess was extremely rude but reluctantly made it work. They had plenty of open tables - you don't need to be rude to guests coming to dine in your restaurant. When I thanked her for accommodating us she wouldn't even look at me. Not to mention the TVs didn't work to watch March Madness. I will not be returning. read more

Delicious pizza and good, fresh salad. The soft drinks are a bit pricey. We waited about 25 minutes for a table on a Friday evening at 5:30pm, not terrible. This place is fine for babies to come to, though it can be a bit cramped to navigate with a little one and all that comes with them. The restroom is also just a single one for the ladies, and a single one for the guys, so when I was changing my daughter's diaper, I was in there for awhile and a line was forming outside which of course isn't ideal. There is a small parking lot next to the restaurant (maybe about 10 cars), and street parking in front of the restaurant. You do need to walk up stairs to get to the front door of the restaurant, and there is no place to sit while waiting for a table which I did not expect, so I wouldn't return with my daughter in the future. I got a pizza to go for my husband as well, and the service was great. Overall, a decent experience. read more

I'm being genuine when I say the food and atmosphere are very enjoyable but the staff is terrible. We walked in and the hostess told us the wait would be "anytime from right now to an hour and a half." Who says that?! And the staff all wear the same shirt and everyone is wearing a a mask so I mistook one girl for our waitress and she was visibly annoyed. I'm a bartender...I get it. This might seem odd, but I am not the biggest pizza fan. I know! I'm crazy! (Although, I do have a favorite Detroit pizza place. See my past reviews) Hear me out though... I get a little bored with pizza. It's the first thing people think about for parties or if you're going out with a group it's always "hey let's gets pizza!" It's the same thing as never changing your hair cut and sometimes I can't take it! Ok. Rant over. So I went to Biga with a group of friends expecting it to be good pizza. I was pleasantly surprised however. The pizza was excellent, I could've just eaten the crust, forget the cheese and sauce! What I really loved about my experience was the rest of the menu. So many vegan and vegetarian things! Pan fried sweet potatoes, soups, amazing salads with FRESH greens. They even have a "whole grain" salad, that consists of lentils and other wintertime fare. They also have a lovely wine and beer selection. Half off wine bottles on Tuesdays! It's beautifully designed on the inside and reasonably quiet compared with the size of the dining room. For dessert, I love the cream and pistachio ice cream with the pizzelle. Just yesterday I ordered the Nutella pizza, and it wasn't my favorite- the dough was too salty, cutting the sweetness of the Nutella... it wasn't sweet at all and it tasted very plain! This was my first time here and we went on a Monday night, was able to sit on the patio and our waiter was very friendly! We got a nice bottle of wine and tried the risotto balls, carrots and bread for apps and they were all amazing! I was hesitant in regards to which pizza to get so I asked our waiter and he recommended the prosciutto one so I got that and let me tell you it did not disappoint! This pizza was even good reheated! It was our friends birthday and they came out with a small bowl of ice cream which was nice! The downside was they were out of a few of their main dishes and took a while to get out bills. Used to love going here. Now poorly managed and dishonest. Called ahead to ensure they were seating outdoors for our unvaccinated children and was told absolutely and to come early before there was a long wait. Spoke with both a hostess and manager. Showed up 25 minutes later to learn they "changed their mind". Couldn't be more disappointed. It will be a long time before we bring the family here again. I had given up looking for a really good pizza for some time. I had decided most places are like the pizza chain stores we all know, that think putting tomato sauce and cheese on crust is all there is to making a good pizza. I wanted one so bad, when I saw reviews for this place I decided to try once more, and ordered a carry out, in spite of the fact that pictures of their pizza on the internet were not great. It was late on a sunday an hour or so before their closing time. What I got was a nightmare, it was like nobody cared what they served up. The toppings I ordered were simple. I asked for Capicola, Pepperoni, onions, and Mushrooms. There were almost no discernible toppings except the peperoni, everything else was literally mush that had all moved to the center of the pizza. There was nothing good about the taste at all, no distinguishable flavors, even the pepperoni which I can usually eat alone. I put on some seasonings of my own just so I could taste something. After 2 slices that flopped and fell apart in my hand at the center while trying to hold it. I Finally gave up, and put the whole pizza down the garbage disposal and threw away the box, to help me forget the $20 dollars i wasted on a super small nothing pizza. read more

I went with a large group to Bigalore for a birthday. They sat us upstairs, which limited experiencing the atmosphere; however, it was necessary to accommodate a large group. They have a large selection of pizza on their menu, which they have a wood fire oven where they are cooked. This is a cool addition to the restaurant, as you can watch the kitchen while you wait for your food. Also, on the menu they have some pasta dishes. We started with the risotto balls, and they were really good. It was risotto, cheese and a crust (also I believe there is meat in it) served with marinara sauce. I got the chicken parmesan and it was delicious. The chicken was cooked perfectly and it was served with rigatoni pasta and marinara sauce. The service was okay. The waitress had two large parties, so it was slow but that was to be expected. The restroom situation was kind of weird as they only had one toilet for men, so you did have to wait. Overall, my experience was good. I definitely plan to go back the next time I'm in that area. read more

I love thin crust pizza. I know- this is not "Detroit" style- but I really do enjoy it. A friend and I went on a lazy Sunday afternoon to have a bite. It was cold outside but very warm inside in this spacious and open setting. Plenty of families around as well as singles/ young folk. We kept it simple and got a pizza and drink. Well done on the single serving pizza, substitutions were met with a smile. Needless to say- some leftovers were had! You can tell this spot might be happening at night when you hit the ladies. Had dinner here Saturday night with a party of 7, and it was INCREDIBLE. Great service, great food and a super fun ambiance. I can't believe I waited so long to come here! The bartender gave us some samples of housemade ginger beer and a fancy cocktail with fancy gin to share/sample. We ordered a pizza to share for an appetizer, and then everyone ordered either a pizza or pasta dish. Everything was top quality and super tasty. I got the pasta Emiliana - very good, high quality pasta (if not homemade), flavorful cream sauce and they didn't skimp on the pancetta or peas. Others got the chicken parm, rigatoni bolognese and my husband got the clam pizza. Everyone loved everything. Our server was SO fast and attended to every need of ours. Location: they renovated a former warehouse and that looks clean (no carpet, that is a plus), modern and kind of fancy. They have a nice looking oven, like the ones you can find in Italy, and actually I came for a pizza. The menu is ok, some pizza is expensive (Margherita DOP is $5 more than the regular one, just because of 5 slices of Imported Mozzarella di Bufala.... ) I took the vegetarian one, it arrived quickly (+), on paper covered woodboard. It was far from being round, the border was top thin, flat and too much burned. The burning bothered me more than the irregular shape, mostly because is toxic.
