We had an appointment for 6pm, arrived on time only to be told he was running behind and to come back @730! Arrived on time @730 then we were left in the waiting room until 9pm. There were no customers, just the two guys that worked there. They were bullshitting in the back, talking and catching up while we sat waiting. Then when the guy, David, finally brought my daughter back @910....he told me that he no longer had time to get to me because he had to lock up by 10pm. He repositioned my daughters tattoo twice and then just stopped responding to her at all. He never checked in to see if she needed a break or to ask how she was doing. He was a complete dick. Her tattoos look like they are ten years old at two weeks. We took her to another shop to just talk to someone about how they were looking and they said whoever did it went way to deep and she would be lucky if they healed better than they are currently looking. Completely shitty experience with a guy that I would never recommend to anyone. The shop itself seems ok. Clean. Well put together. I went to Ever True to get my tattoos two days later. I was seated in the waiting room for 5 minutes before I was on the table. Out the door within an hour, with the cleanest lined tattoos and a sweetheart of an artist. He will definitely be my go to from now on. I paid the same price that the other shop was charging and a way better experience. I would give David at Grizzly 0 stars if it was possible. Just got my second/last session of the tattoo I started in November done during New Year's weekend with Laura. A floral/plant piece on my shoulder/ upper arm. Can't find words to describe the turnout! Laura is such a nice and down to earth gal. Took us a while to figure out the colors but in the end it all turned out super sweet! She even added a few things to what we originally had - she felt like it was a little too bare on some parts. She is definitely accommodating to her clients and collaborating with her on this tattoo was a pleasant experience. I would lalalove to work with her again the next time I visit Portland. A little more about the shop: The entire vibe is definitely one I've never seen at the shops back here in the Bay Area. It's got some taxidermy-ish vibes but not tacky. Pretty hip and modern. I love how they use a fence to divide the "tattoo zone" from the rest of the shop. read more

Visited Portland over the Memorial Day weekend. My friend and I wanted to get tattoos spontaneously so we checked this place out since they told us walk ins were accepted. Our tattoo artist was named Sol who was from Costa Rica and really cool to have conversations with. She is friendly and lets you navigate how you want your own tattoo without her ideas being too pushy on you. The tattoo itself was a bit overpriced for what I'm used to when I go to my artist back in LA. Again, we were walk ins so that was kinda to be expected. It is usually only cash but she let us pay with Venmo which was great. read more

Getting a tattoo can be intimidating. Tyler Adams at Grizzly tattoo is incredibly talented. His art is realistic, detailed, and will totally exceed your expectations. He's also very relaxed, easy going, and creative. Have two tattoos done by him (half sleeve) and though I'm in Florida now and who knows where I'll end up living in the future, I will ONLY go back to Tyler to complete my sleeve and I simply cannot wait. I took a trip here in august for my birthday from California to get tattooed by Michael (@jesus_pieces_ on ig)! I had been collecting his art for a while and decided last minute to come out, and he was able to book me a week before my trip. He books very fast, so I suggest planning accordingly. The shop is very clean and Michael checked sizing for the tattoos I wanted. The overall tattoo process was a pleasant experience and his professionalism is amazing. I just got my first tattoo the other day. It took me a long time to figure out what I wanted to get and a bit longer to figure out who I wanted to actually make it a reality. Tyler Adams is that man. A friend had some work done from Tyler and has been going to him for years. I liked what I saw and we finally made it happen. Grizzly Tattoo is Tyler's new business. I guess I get to be his first review. I had no idea what getting a tattoo would feel like, but Tyler put me at ease. I have a bit of a high tolerance for pain, so ultimately it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be, but I'm getting ahead of myself. I wanted something very specific and could visualize what I wanted, but getting it down on paper was a struggle. A few weeks before getting the tattoo Tyler and I had a consultation. I showed him a few images I found online and he told me he would come up with something original that I could be proud of. Fast-forward to the day. Got to the studio and Tyler was drawing away. He came up with an initial design which I came back to look at. It wasn't quite there, but I told him a bit more of what I wanted and in another minute or 2 it was where it needed to be. The tattoo took less than an hour to complete. Since it was my first one, Tyler did a small portion just to show me what the pain would be like. It wasn't bad. Certain parts of it were worse than others, but I bit down on my teeth, did a bit of grimacing through the rough parts and ultimately got through it. I am very happy with the final product. All in all a very good experience. People say that once you get one tattoo you can't stop. I'm not sure if that is true for me, but if it is, I'll be heading back to Grizzly for my next one. read more

I had a most excellent experience with Chris at Grizzly Tattoo! After spending HOURS looking through artists' online portfolios, his immediately jumped out at me as unique and suited to what I was looking for. I scheduled a consultation with him and we met to discuss my ideas. He listened to what I had to say, asked some clarifying questions, and was very professional yet friendly and easy to talk to. We scheduled my appointment and he worked on a design. When he showed it to me, it totally blew me out of the water: I was thrilled! I made a couple of tweaks, he made the changes, and the he went to work. The process itself wasn't a ton of fun (you're getting stabbed with a needle, after all!), but Chris did a great job of making me comfortable throughout the entire session. When it was over, my tattoo was even better looking than I thought it would be--which I didn't think was possible! I would highly recommend Chris at Grizzly Tattoo to anybody that was thinking about getting inked. Eric is AMAZING! From the moment we walked in we were greeted with a smile from the shop manager. She was warm and welcoming and very nice. I had scheduled my consult the week prior for that morning with Eric. I had a few pictures with me of what I was wanting and with in minutes he had sketched up my dream tattoo! The best part was someone called in to cancel while I was there so rather then wait 4+ months I was able to come back later that afternoon and get it done. It was my first tattoo and I was a little nervous but he made me feel right at home. My husband was able to sit with us and he let us take video and pictures. Eric was very good about keeping the conversation going and keeping my mind off the pain. I cannot say enough about his talent. He truly has a gift! He has crisp lines and his shading is phenomenal. Don't let her small stature and warm, friendly nature fool you. This girls not only knows her way around a tattoo gun and ink, she knows how to BUILD a tattoo machine. I lost my dad last year, and there was nothing more I wanted than a portrait of him tattooed. I searched and searched and asked around and I wasn't finding an artist I liked and wanted. I'm picky and I demand the best. Heck, I'm going to have it for a life time - I want it to look amazing! I asked another tattoo artist for recommendations of artists who do amazing portraits. Tyler was one of the artists on the list. I checked him out online and I found that there is another person who does portraits there as well...and a damn good job too! I decided to go in and make an appointment. I was greeted by Eric Quale. Upon talking with him, I found out that he was the other artist on their website who did portraits. They looked so realistic and AMAZING. I booked my appointment with him on my parent's anniversary date. It was a special picture and an important date to me. Eric was very friendly and humble. He's soft spoken, but could chat up a good conversation. Funny ones to add. He understands the importance of the quality of his work as well as that it also represents the shop. He takes great pride in what he does and he has a couple kiddos who hopefully will follow in his footsteps. He's been doing it for 7 years and does a damn good job. Better than damn good! A-MA-ZING! OUTSTANDING! I'm beyond happy with my tattoo. I highly recommend Eric Quale to anyone. ESPECIALLY someone who's looking at getting a portrait tattooed. There are some "good" artists out there, but not too many that I could find who create the quality as Eric does. I'm sure there are other amazing portrait artists out there, but why must I look any further...Eric Quale is the guy! We happened upon this shop while we were waiting to get a table at Tasty N' Sons on vacay from San Diego. They hadn't opened yet so we swore we would stop in again after our meal to check things out as I had already swore that I would get another tattoo in the mother of all tattoo cities. I'm so glad we went and I don't know how I'll ever go to another shop again. After breakfast, we came back and met Eric who was super friendly and approachable. I made an appointment to get a rose (before I found out from a guy in Walgreens that Portland has the moniker, "The Rose City") and happened to meet the owner of the shop, Tyler. We told them they had been, thus far in our trip, the nicest people we'd met in Portland besides the people at the hotel we were staying at and it wasn't long before we learned that Tyler was actually from north San Diego county! Needless to say, we came back later in the day for my scheduled appointment in which Eric had drawn a rose exactly the way I had imagined it. In no time it was permanently etched into my right shoulder and I knew that I'd be back to get the quarter sleeve it will eventually belong to. Thankfully, we're headed to eastern Oregon later this year, and my boyfriend and I have already set aside time to *hopefully* be able to make an appointment with Eric again because I couldn't imagine getting it done anywhere else. This is the kind of shop that is awesome for tattoo virgins and veterans alike (the rose was my third tattoo personally), and I recommend it to anyone visiting the area who might have an inkling to go get some quality body art. The artists are hella talented, serious about their art, and super laid back. My only disappointment? That there isn't a shop in SD! read more
