Beyond impressed with this tattoo shop. Such welcoming and friendly staff. A group of us ladies came in for my birthday and they treated us so well. I did the mystery machine deluxe tattoo and 100% love the tattoo I got. Happy to have found a place that doesn't require a 6 month wait list. Will be back.

Was tattooed by Tyson, was not a great experience. I could feel a different kind of pain when being tattooed later turns out he clearly went too deep as my scarring is obvious. As I was being tattooed another artist came up & was what I thought joking w/ Tyson about his crazy night the day before & asking if he was okay (like hungover or not seemed to be the question) & Tyson replied he was really struggling. I thought they were kidding, seems not w/ how fast he rushed through my tattoo even making a mistake & over lapping one of the wings. I was so surprised given his experience and portfolio. I had been following him for months & took the time & finances to drive to Oregon to be tattooed & left very disappointed. This was over a year ago and I'm still so disappointed with the experience/tattoo.

My tattoo artist recently moved and I really enjoy the new digs. Walls are PLASTERED with flash and I love looking at it and maybe even picking off if it. Has a chill feel and the building is cool. I don't love that the main area is so open...I wish there was a little bit more cover. It's especially noticeable because they have a fair amount of walk in business....but it's not anything I wouldn't come in over. The "get what you get" gimmick is pretty sweet. I would rather give my artist $100 and have them pick something in the style and type that fits me but, hey, some people really want to be surprised and I have yet to see one on their IG that wasn't worth it. All done, it's a cool place! Truth tho....I don't care where it is as long as it's my artist (which is how I suspect most people are). Here are a few pics and Tina Platis is the artist...and she is amazing. The tribal is from way way back but she refreshed that one for me.

    Fairy tale themed back piece!

Brittany is amazing! She just finished a gorgeous back piece for me based on an idea. I trusted her artist intuition, color combos, and her ability to highlight and fit my body! I've been recovering from a very painful back injury whilst working on this tattoo and she was soooo patient with me! Thank you! I recommend Brittany for all tattoo needs! She's creative, flexible, and professional!

So I called at 3:45 and the guy on the phone was one of the nicest people I had ever talked to. I asked for walk in availability and he told me an artist would be available when I got there. I was a little later than expected thanks to Portland traffic and I bounced a couple ideas off of Jon and he helped me find a really awesome design that I liked. He set up his station and gave me one of my favorite tattoos. If you are looking for American Traditional then THIS IS 100% THE PLACE TO GET IT. Every single step from talking about the design to the conversation during the tattoo was great. 100% looking forward to getting another one here while I'm still in the Portland area.

My friends and I were visiting Portland for my birthday trip. I've always wanted a tattoo, but never knew what I wanted. My friends and I agreed to get matching tattoos, but I ended up being the only one that was down. When I was walking in to get the tattoo, I was a little nervous because I've never done this before. Tyson Arandt was the artist that did my tattoo and made me feel comfortable through the whole process. I originally wanted the tattoo a little smaller, but there is a minimum $100 fee, so he suggested it that I do it a little bigger. I was really happy with the results and love my tattoo. I'm really happy that I came here to get my first tattoo. If I'm ever back in Portland, I would come back and get another tattoo!! Also they take walks in too!!

I LOVE this place. I went in the beginning of the week to talk to Brad Delay about getting a butterfly tattoo for my grandma. He gave me his card, quickly set up my appointment and I was out! I emailed him descriptive details as to what I wanted my tattoo to look like. He was so patient and understand with my precise demands. I went in, quickly got checked in, and Brad handed me two sketches. They were exactly as I had described him. He even incorporated her handwriting. As I was getting tattooed he knew I was hurting, so he talked me through it. THE NICEST MAN! Extremely thorough as well. I would recommend to anyone!

Just an update on my last review seeing as I've had two more tattoos done by Joel in the last two years. His skills are absolutely top and I'm so happy with how clean they always look. The most recent was a realistic Enso circle made to look like it was done by paint brush. It was done with black and grey and was easy to get a touch up on one of the spots for optimal effect. Everyone at historic seems rad, definitely give em a go! I'll be back soon.

Finally got my Rufous at the Portland Tattoo Expo. Thanks Dean!

I first got tattooed by Dean a few months ago at the Tattoo Expo. I was so totally happy with my cool little bird that my husband has been back to Dean and Tyson (who also does great work) at Historic's cool shop a couple times and I have been back to Dean once with plans to take my momma. Yes, I plan to take my mom... That means something. Both my side and shoulder healed perfectly. No complaints. Dean is professional, fast, and encouraging... :) Dean is incredibly talented, I like his style, and I am completely confident that when I go in to get tattooed by him again, I am going to walk out of there 100% happy with my awesome new permanent picture.

Just got a memorial tattoo from Brad Delay. It had been 10 yrs since my last tattoo so I was pretty nervous. Brad kept great conversation keeping me distracted during the process. Thanks for a great experience, hearing a little bit about you and your family, the awesome bluegrass/country music was much appreciated!

What a great tattoo shop! My friend was in town for a visit and we decided we needed (wanted) to get a new tat. We had originally called The New Rose tattoo shop, but when we got to the shop the artist didn't have enough time to do both of ours. She was super nice and honest about it and suggested we try Historic Tattoo. Well we are so happy we did because we got to meet the fabulous Mckenna who gave us our fern tattoos. Mckenna was so chill, funny, and did a wonderful job on our pieces. My buddy fell asleep during her session, and I was super relaxed and could have fallen asleep. She is a goddess with the gun (tattoo gun) we are healing beautifully. The shop is spotless, nice and roomy, great music. It looks like they specialize in American Traditional style. We even met the owner of the shop who was incredibly friendly and nice. If you are looking for a great tattoo shop that has got a welcoming vibe, Historic tattoo might be for you! Ms. Mckenna "Goddess of the Gun", thank you so much we love our new tats!

The atmosphere in this place is so CHILL . The crew is always cracking jokes and it really to made me feel like I was welcome . Lisa Marie has done the last few tattoos and she is SO talented - she has wowed me at every appointment . One instance - I explained what I wanted for a cover up piece on my neck and she really took her time evaluating the space /placement and color scheme. She was REALLY fast but still detailed . After the piece was done and I looked in the mirror - I literally almost started crying I was SO happy . It was SO INCREDIBLE . I tell everyone I know to go to Lisa Marie

My friend and I were wanting matching plastic vampire teeth tattoos since it'd be Halloween weekend and he was so kind when I told him what we wanted and mentioned he hadn't finished his flash sheet so he'd add in the teeth, (spoiler, they were PERFECT). The day we were planning on coming in was their planned flash day so we knew we had to anticipate a potential wait. The rainy Portland weather was in our favor because, even though we were unable to make our way in at 10:30AM as he recommended, we ventured in at 3PM and still got a spot in line. Jared was great, adding the text I wanted to my flash, and even touching up a small hand/wrist tattoo that was poorly done by someone else in a different state prior. Truly, so thankful he answered the phone that day bc I got a great vibe from him. He was also able to successfully turn my "splotch" knuckle tattoo (my loving nickname for it) to a beautiful black skull that ACTUALLY STAYED PUT (it was the 4th attempt over an old scar I had and he was the only one to successfully have a tattoo stick on it without it looking weird once healed). Since Jared was short on time before an appt, Ali did my friends matching fangs and they both turned out amazingly. Overall, I now fully intend to make the journey from Sacramento to Portland anytime I want something done so I can specifically have him do it or his shop-mate that does phenomenal portrait style flash/tattoos (she was diagonal from us when we were there - blonde long hair and beanie). The shop was super clean, artists were all super friendly, front desk apprentice was easy on the eyes, what's not love? 100/10 could not recommend this place enough!

I made the terrible decision to be tattooed by Toby. I went in to start on a full sleeve, although it wasn't technically a full sleeve but a 3/4 sleeve. I have a tattoo on my upper arm that takes up half of my upper arm. During my 1st appointment we discussed that we are going to keep and incorporate that one. At my 1st appointment Toby told me that it would take 3 sessions since it wouldn't be an actual full sleeve. I paid for a full day session. He told me at my 1st appt that the stop time will be once I tap out. Our first session he ended early and said that his kids were sick. He specifically told me that our next session won't be the same. He also said our next session wouldn't take as long to get started. I went back in for my 2nd session yesterday at 10am. He showed up late like he did for our 1st appt. It wasn't until about 11am that he started drawing on me. It took him about 4 hours to draw on me. Keep in mind we haven't even started on my upper arm. He was drawing on my lower arm. Finally by 3pm we get started tattooing. The table wasn't working properly so he had to reset up a new one. Then some random person walks in looking for a tattoo. He stopped tattooing me to go chat with the person. Then throughout my entire session he purposely inflicts maximum pain. He seems to think that I don't have any large or decent pieces. I have my entire back done. I also have portraits and pieces on my legs. I have good quality work in those areas. I only mentioned to him that I wanted my back covered up, but because I don't like it anymore and don't have those beliefs anymore. It's not due to the quality. The tattoos that he was starting to cover on my arm are much older tattoos that I got when I was younger. Based off of that I suppose he thinks I don't know any better. My ex is also a tattoo artist so I understand needle groupings, heavy hands vs light hands, dry wipe vs wet wipe etc. Throughout my entire session he never finished a single area. He jumps from area to area throughout the entire process. He would randomly jump from my wrist, elbow, side of arm, just all over the place. He opens up the area and works on it for a while, then moves to another area for like 20min or so, then moves back to the area he opened up. He inflicts serious pain. I hinted to him several times that each time you do that it hurts much worse. He never listened and continued to do it. I told him from the start that I wanted to work in a particular area first. He didn't listen. He is super heavy handed intentionally. He dry wipes with a paper towel the whole time. He inflicts maximum pain to attempt to get you to tap early. At the very start of our 2nd session after the marker was drawn on, I flat out asked him will you be able to finish this today to which he yes. By about 10pm he said we should call it a night. I literally only had maybe 1/2 of a half sleeve. There was so much work to complete still. I told him no I want to keep going. He didn't want to but I was persistent. So we get back to tattooing. I asked him flat out why did you tell me that we would have this finished today if that isn't the case. He said well there are a lot of factors like the way a client takes pain. I told him he put me in a ton of pain but I never once stopped him so what do you mean. I told him I feel lied to, taken advantage of, and just how unhappy I was by this and that I won't be continuing with him. I was planning on getting 2 full sleeves, full chest piece, and a cover up on my entire back. I told him you literally told me that for a full day session that it means we stop once I tap out. He got extremely combative. He said that in the fine print says he only tattoos 7 hrs max. I said why did you lie to me then? He ended up calling me an asshole and threatened to stop my work mid session to leave it. He said it's his right to do so. I said that I'd leave a review about this and he said that's "thats fine, I don't give a f". I'm not sure if he ended up texting his family or people or what. But suddenly around midnight all his people showed up at the tattoo studio I guess to try to intimidate me. I paid $ 3,225 in total and I don't have a completed half sleeve. I don't even have a single section of my arm that is complete due to him jumping around constantly. Literally not even one single area of this "half sleeve" is completed. During our argument he scoffed at me and was the mentality of how dare you .. but he admitted flat out a full sleeve is 5 grand. I said okay and I've paid over 3 grand now and I don't even have a completed half sleeve. He refuses to take accountability. He is a very selfish mentality, a liar, and he will gaslight you the entire time. He pretends to be a nice person but he is absolutely not. He takes advantage of people and rips them off.
