Gorgeous work by Jeryy Ware
Maria N.

I love, love, LOVE coming to this shop! Everyone is super laid back and welcoming! The artists are all AMAZING! It doesn't matter what style you want someone at the shop will be able to do it and do it well! The shop is eclectic in style but spotless in cleanliness. I have been coming here for over twenty years off and on and have never been disappointed! If you want a tattoo, come to this shop, it might just be the best decision you ever make!

I came in to get a very old tattoo re colored and was beyond happy with the results. Everyone was super friendly and the place has a really chill and down to earth atmosphere. The ink came in right at the price quoted and the artist, Anna Mack, did an amazing job and made it shine better than ever before. Will be coming back for more work asap!!

You can find the red house on the right when coming off the Interstate. It's located in a quiet part of Portland near the PDX. There seems to always have street parking available in front or down the road to the left side near the residential area. My best way to research the artist you want is to look at their work which can easily be seen on their website. Based on the possible idea of what I wanted, I chose Shaun Nel. He is an artist who has had decades of experience. Here at this tattoo establishment, everyone is quite impressive and professional with their work. You mosdef have OGs here who can take care of your tattoo. Cash only...$100 minimum, $180 an hour, and $40 deposit for reserving for large tattoos I presume. I got a relatively small-ish size so after I scheduled my consult, I did not have to put a deposit down. After giving my idea of half pineapple and half pine cone, Shaun gave good insight of removing the idea of shaping it as a grenade since it would take away from the real texture which is shown from shading in. Sunday is the day where they accept walk-ins! Come around 10am so you can get your name on the list! Call in advance to see who works on what day. They actually keep their hours here and are pretty good on time. Shaun was certain that he had the artwork down before he did his final sketch and scan for the outline. He was actual patient on making sure he was on point on where I wanted my tattoo placed. (I chose above the shin). It's a sensitive nerve part IMO. However, my tattoo turned out great! Many locals come here, too! Many repeat customers! That's a good sign. Children not allowed in back so they can chill with another adult at the cafe down the road. Super close! There is also cool wall art down the block.

Jerry did everything that is not blue or purple. Adding more bugs and insects soon! His sunflowers and tithonia are perfect!

I've been having a summer fling with Atlas Tattoo, and I think it might be getting serious. I mean, this might be switching to long term, commitment, exclusivity. Everyone here is sooo nice to me. I'm greeted like a friend when I walk in, and I always feel welcome. I have noticed that they are that way with everyone. Nobody is too busy to look up and smile, engage in a little how's it going. They take the time to listen to what you want. There is no rush. I've been working with Jerry, and he has been very collaborative and flexible. We started with a specific plan and it kind of grew, he suggested and I agreed, I brought additions and he said "awsome!", and the relationship has developed in that way. I send him photos, he describes his ideas, we agree and then I put on the pretty gown and recline for a while while he does his artsy thing. I've seen this same thing with other artists in the studio. Everyone is excited about what they do, and they want you to get exactly what will please you, be meaningful in the way you intended, and that you will be proud of when you walk out the door. Last note - my husband watched the art on my back developing and decided he was ready for the tattoo he has been planning for, what, more than 10 years? He spoke with Dan, they huddled, Dan drew, and then BAM - the perfect tattoo. It's gorgeous, honestly, and Dan just did it. Just like that. He is amazing. Call, walk in, look at the artists work on Instagram, think about it, talk about it ... Do it! I couldn't be happier, this has been a wonderful experience.

My experience at this shop was very positive - I called on a walk-in and they got me in within about 3 hours. Artist was careful to make sure that I liked the placement, and that the proper attention was paid to the tattoo. Three artists were working and you could tell they liked each other as well as being coworkers. 10/10 would recommend Atlas. Tattoo has fully healed and looks great! (Pic is immediately after session)

Our tattoo artist was Juan! He did an amazing matching tattoos! I definitely would recommend him as an artist. I knew once he showed me and my best friend the drawing, the tattoo was going to be perfect! He's a chill guy! Love his attitude. The entire shop was friendly! I believe the receptionist's name is Michelle! She's super sweet! I didn't feel uncomfortable while getting my tattoo. I can't take pain at all, Juan kept letting me know that I was doing a good job even though I wanted to cry like a baby once he started coloring in the flowers. Lol I believe the other artist name is Dan, he made me feel comfortable too by making a few jokes before I started getting tatted. The shop is clean with a lot of hand sanitizers. Also, they have a good music playlist too! Juan will definitely be doing my next tattoo.

I asked for roses and a western meadowlark and this magic is what he came up with!

After doing some research from my hometown in NY I confidently decided to get tattooed here by Dan Gilsdorf during a recent vacation to Portland, OR. First off, all our consultations occurred via email and that entire process was made extremely easy by Dan's high level of professionalism. He was speedy to respond and I was very happy with the customer support even from 3,000 miles away. When I finally did get to the shop, it was welcoming, clean and bright! I must say it was the most comfortable tattoo experience ever! They provided me a pillow for under my head and one for under the leg he was tattooing. I honestly could have fallen asleep I was so comfortable (and possibly jet-lagged). The tattoo came out great, I am in love with it. And all the guys had me laughing the whole time. I highly recommend this shop but just be prepared to book your appointment well in advance as these guys are busy - and for good reason!

It's time to start tattoo season

I've been he for all (4) of my tattoos, and plan to get a couple more this walk in from Mav. I have seen Jerry for my arm, and chest piece, walked in with Dan for my forearm, and mav for another forearm, and hopefully some calf work. The place is legit, amazing, professional, and kind. The works they do is amazing, and worth the 180/hr shop rate. I've been a huge fan, and get many many compliments and send many recommendations their way. They're great people, with a great hands, and I have never had an issue with pain, or scabbing, or care. Do not look at the price per hour. They work so fast it makes up for it at the price per piece. I couldn't go to another place.

Shout out to Lewis Hess! Amazing work!

Lewis was incredible. Seriously, so personable, calm, and creative. I wanted to bring my husband to get a tattoo for his birthday and it was a surprise. Lewis made space in his full day for us and absolutely nailed the piece. My husband has been thinking about getting this tattoo for a long time and he said it's even better than he imagined! Thank you, Lewis! You rock! 10/10 would recommend!!!

Decided for a tattoo and went as a walk-in to the shop. They were very nice and tentative. Chose the tattoo and then Luis sized it put the stencil on and it was business time baby out in 30 was a very good experience we will be back!

Flowers added around a preexisting "T" and odd halo-shading that was added at a different parlor without my consent. Atlas saved my ribs! 3

I had an amazing experience at this studio! The staff is extraordinarily friendly and welcoming (something I have not experienced at any other tattoo parlor ever). I ended up doing a walk in with Dan the owner, who exclusively does walk-ins, and boy did I luck out! Dan is not only a brilliant artist, but was very kind and patient with my squirming. He did beautiful and flawless line work in a miraculously short amount of time with minimal pain. (A rib tattoo on a person with ADHD, the man is good). He did a rough sketch directly on my skin and got to work, adding flowers and incorporating them into some pre-existing unfortunate shading that had been done by another artist at a shop in New Orleans. The work that Dan did was set on a beautiful angle of to complement my body. He thought every detail through, like a true professional and overshadowed a previously negative experience with an extraordinarily positive one. I absolutely adore my tattoo now and I am so grateful to have happened upon this wonderful establishment through striking up a conversation with one of Atlas's lovely managers. Y'all rock! Next time I come to Portland, I will absolutely be returning to Atlas! I really could not recommend this place enough.

Celtic know work, with Christos symbol.

Great service, clear information, with good suggestions for the design. You want knot work, ask for Jerry. He has my highest recommendation.

My friend and I were wanting matching plastic vampire teeth tattoos since it'd be Halloween weekend and he was so kind when I told him what we wanted and mentioned he hadn't finished his flash sheet so he'd add in the teeth, (spoiler, they were PERFECT). The day we were planning on coming in was their planned flash day so we knew we had to anticipate a potential wait. The rainy Portland weather was in our favor because, even though we were unable to make our way in at 10:30AM as he recommended, we ventured in at 3PM and still got a spot in line. Jared was great, adding the text I wanted to my flash, and even touching up a small hand/wrist tattoo that was poorly done by someone else in a different state prior. Truly, so thankful he answered the phone that day bc I got a great vibe from him. He was also able to successfully turn my "splotch" knuckle tattoo (my loving nickname for it) to a beautiful black skull that ACTUALLY STAYED PUT (it was the 4th attempt over an old scar I had and he was the only one to successfully have a tattoo stick on it without it looking weird once healed). Since Jared was short on time before an appt, Ali did my friends matching fangs and they both turned out amazingly. Overall, I now fully intend to make the journey from Sacramento to Portland anytime I want something done so I can specifically have him do it or his shop-mate that does phenomenal portrait style flash/tattoos (she was diagonal from us when we were there - blonde long hair and beanie). The shop was super clean, artists were all super friendly, front desk apprentice was easy on the eyes, what's not love? 100/10 could not recommend this place enough!

They go out of their way to offer water, space heaters, heating pads, masks, or whatever else might make you feel most comfortable. The artists seem to support and treat each other kindly. I made the terrible decision to be tattooed by Toby. I went in to start on a full sleeve, although it wasn't technically a full sleeve but a 3/4 sleeve. I have a tattoo on my upper arm that takes up half of my upper arm. During my 1st appointment we discussed that we are going to keep and incorporate that one. At my 1st appointment Toby told me that it would take 3 sessions since it wouldn't be an actual full sleeve. I paid for a full day session. He told me at my 1st appt that the stop time will be once I tap out. Our first session he ended early and said that his kids were sick. He specifically told me that our next session won't be the same. He also said our next session wouldn't take as long to get started. I went back in for my 2nd session yesterday at 10am. He showed up late like he did for our 1st appt. It wasn't until about 11am that he started drawing on me. It took him about 4 hours to draw on me. Keep in mind we haven't even started on my upper arm. He was drawing on my lower arm. Finally by 3pm we get started tattooing. The table wasn't working properly so he had to reset up a new one. Then some random person walks in looking for a tattoo. He stopped tattooing me to go chat with the person. Then throughout my entire session he purposely inflicts maximum pain. He seems to think that I don't have any large or decent pieces. I have my entire back done. I also have portraits and pieces on my legs. I have good quality work in those areas. I only mentioned to him that I wanted my back covered up, but because I don't like it anymore and don't have those beliefs anymore. It's not due to the quality. The tattoos that he was starting to cover on my arm are much older tattoos that I got when I was younger. Based off of that I suppose he thinks I don't know any better. My ex is also a tattoo artist so I understand needle groupings, heavy hands vs light hands, dry wipe vs wet wipe etc. Throughout my entire session he never finished a single area. He jumps from area to area throughout the entire process. He would randomly jump from my wrist, elbow, side of arm, just all over the place. He opens up the area and works on it for a while, then moves to another area for like 20min or so, then moves back to the area he opened up. He inflicts serious pain. I hinted to him several times that each time you do that it hurts much worse. He never listened and continued to do it. I told him from the start that I wanted to work in a particular area first. He didn't listen. He is super heavy handed intentionally. He dry wipes with a paper towel the whole time. He inflicts maximum pain to attempt to get you to tap early. At the very start of our 2nd session after the marker was drawn on, I flat out asked him will you be able to finish this today to which he yes. By about 10pm he said we should call it a night. I literally only had maybe 1/2 of a half sleeve. There was so much work to complete still. I told him no I want to keep going. He didn't want to but I was persistent. So we get back to tattooing. I asked him flat out why did you tell me that we would have this finished today if that isn't the case. He said well there are a lot of factors like the way a client takes pain. I told him he put me in a ton of pain but I never once stopped him so what do you mean. I told him I feel lied to, taken advantage of, and just how unhappy I was by this and that I won't be continuing with him. I was planning on getting 2 full sleeves, full chest piece, and a cover up on my entire back. I told him you literally told me that for a full day session that it means we stop once I tap out. He got extremely combative. He said that in the fine print says he only tattoos 7 hrs max. I said why did you lie to me then? He ended up calling me an asshole and threatened to stop my work mid session to leave it. He said it's his right to do so. I said that I'd leave a review about this and he said that's "thats fine, I don't give a f". I'm not sure if he ended up texting his family or people or what. But suddenly around midnight all his people showed up at the tattoo studio I guess to try to intimidate me. I paid $ 3,225 in total and I don't have a completed half sleeve. I don't even have a single section of my arm that is complete due to him jumping around constantly. Literally not even one single area of this "half sleeve" is completed. During our argument he scoffed at me and was the mentality of how dare you .. but he admitted flat out a full sleeve is 5 grand. I said okay and I've paid over 3 grand now and I don't even have a completed half sleeve. He refuses to take accountability. He is a very selfish mentality, a liar, and he will gaslight you the entire time. He pretends to be a nice person but he is absolutely not. He takes advantage of people and rips them off.
