Brian took excellent care of me, he was prompt and showed me his designs which were exactly what I wanted based on our communication via email. I was able to get two since they were small & he gave me advice on size & placement. The whole process was quick & easy, & I couldn't be happier with the results. I would definitely go back & recommend.

Family was in town a couple of weeks ago so we decided to head down to Portland on a whim for some tattoos and delicious food. Our favorite tattoo shop was going to be closed that day but they recommended we try out Scapegoat Tattoo. Glad they did, we had an awesome experience! My SIL wanted to get her first tattoo so they talked her through the process but also assured her it was no big deal if she decided she wasn't ready. I was also interested in getting a lil scorp so I chatted with Vincent Daniels and he had a design drawn up for me and ready to go within an hour. He was super friendly, worked quickly and I was super happy with the result. Thank you Vincent and thank you Scapegoat tattoo!

I didn't think I'd be getting a tattoo in quarantine but here I am! Scapegoat Tattoo had really clear and straightforward procedures on their website in regards to safety measures and what to expect coming in. The overall atmosphere in the studio is lighthearted and everyone is super nice and welcoming. I appreciated the person at the reception who waited outside for me when I called to check in for my appointment with Jesse. I stumbled upon Jesse's work when I was researching artists in Portland, and his style was just what I was looking for. I only had an idea, and Jesse executed it beyond my imagination. Before we got started, he did his own research based off of the information I gave him to draft up this piece. I greatly appreciate his attention to detail how much he cares about his work. Jesse is overall just a fun person to be around. He's candid and doesn't sugar coat things, so you can strike up some pretty fun conversations while you're on the table! This piece took about five hours in one session and he always made sure to check on me throughout the process and that I was comfortable (well as much as you can be while a needle is poking into you). It got a little harder towards the last hour but his encouragement pulled me through. I love the work that Jesse has done and I highly recommend him for your next tattoo. I'll definitely be back for more in the future. Please give him a nice warm Portland welcome!

If you want a wonderful person with a great personality to do your tattoo.. go to Brian! He's sweet and lovely, and gave me exactly what I want! This is the best place in town for ink, you gotta come here! I'll update my review in a few weeks after my tattoo has healed.

Cesar was fantastic! Very open and communicative, did an amazing job on my cover up tattoo. I highly recommend Cesar for your tattoo!

I saw Virginia aka @niemo_tattoo and I cannot express how happy I am I found her. She has such a sweet and calming personality. She does INCREDIBLE fine line too. I got a thin delicate small rose on my arm, as well as a butterfly and they turned out perfect!! I honestly wish I had found her sooner!! I recommend her to ALL of my friends now. Can't wait to see her again for the rest of my tatts! 12/10 recommend. She's the best!!

Came here again for another tattoo because the quality of work was great the first time around. This time I worked with Shawn Hebrank. He was very professional and communicative from the initial inquiry to the final product. I sent him a photo of my idea with some general design ideas and he came back with a fully fleshed out drawing which gave me full confidence of what I was getting. A+!

Ryan Mason is THE man! I gave him the subject matter and free reign to do his work, and he knocked it out of the park. This was my first tattoo. This man knows what he is doing. I highly recommend submitting your ideas to him. As for the people of Scapegoat Tattoo and the shop itself, 5 stars as well. Clean shop, and awesome people. I could not have asked for a better experience.

Met with Manee today to get some binary done on my forearm. Amazing guy, very professional and knowledgeable, easy to talk to, made the entire experience excellent. I have several pieces I am looking to get done down the road, and Manee is the man.

This is by far the best experience I've ever had getting a tattoo. I'm from San Diego, CA and flew up to Portland to get tatted by John Wilson. All the artists there are worth the trip for. I was inspired to come to scapegoat bc 1, it is VEGAN and 2, a friend of mine from NY that also flew to Portland from NY had an amazing piece done too by scapegoat that I fell in love with! If you're looking for legitimate, top quality tattoos done by knowledgeable, experienced artists, this is the place to go. The cost is worth it considering that you're paying for great quality art and professionalism of artwork that will stay with you for the rest of your life. John Wilson did an amazing job on my tattoo. I came in to do a crane bird on my bicep and he understood everything I was looking for. Very detailed oriented person and is the super sweetest and non-intimidating tattoo artist I've ever met. Everyone at scapegoat is mad friendly and so talented. I agree with the rest of the comments of people who rated this place a 5. I definitely recommend John Wilson and know for a fact that I will be going back for more work done by him. Double thumbs up for the shop and John. Scapegoat is a great staple of what makes Portland, Portlandia.

Conversation flowed easily and he had a killer music playlist going. Even his partner Hanam was a great guy and seemed vested in the quality of the work being done! Where he really shines, however, is his amazing attention to detail and the incredible quality of his art. I've had this tattoo planned for a long time and he seriously nailed it! Blew every expectation I had for it completely out of the water! Every small detail pops and the color and shading came out amazing! Seriously can't recommend this shop and Toby's artistic ability enough!!

I made the terrible decision to be tattooed by Toby. I went in to start on a full sleeve, although it wasn't technically a full sleeve but a 3/4 sleeve. I have a tattoo on my upper arm that takes up half of my upper arm. During my 1st appointment we discussed that we are going to keep and incorporate that one. At my 1st appointment Toby told me that it would take 3 sessions since it wouldn't be an actual full sleeve. I paid for a full day session. He told me at my 1st appt that the stop time will be once I tap out. Our first session he ended early and said that his kids were sick. He specifically told me that our next session won't be the same. He also said our next session wouldn't take as long to get started. I went back in for my 2nd session yesterday at 10am. He showed up late like he did for our 1st appt. It wasn't until about 11am that he started drawing on me. It took him about 4 hours to draw on me. Keep in mind we haven't even started on my upper arm. He was drawing on my lower arm. Finally by 3pm we get started tattooing. The table wasn't working properly so he had to reset up a new one. Then some random person walks in looking for a tattoo. He stopped tattooing me to go chat with the person. Then throughout my entire session he purposely inflicts maximum pain. He seems to think that I don't have any large or decent pieces. I have my entire back done. I also have portraits and pieces on my legs. I have good quality work in those areas. I only mentioned to him that I wanted my back covered up, but because I don't like it anymore and don't have those beliefs anymore. It's not due to the quality. The tattoos that he was starting to cover on my arm are much older tattoos that I got when I was younger. Based off of that I suppose he thinks I don't know any better. My ex is also a tattoo artist so I understand needle groupings, heavy hands vs light hands, dry wipe vs wet wipe etc. Throughout my entire session he never finished a single area. He jumps from area to area throughout the entire process. He would randomly jump from my wrist, elbow, side of arm, just all over the place. He opens up the area and works on it for a while, then moves to another area for like 20min or so, then moves back to the area he opened up. He inflicts serious pain. I hinted to him several times that each time you do that it hurts much worse. He never listened and continued to do it. I told him from the start that I wanted to work in a particular area first. He didn't listen. He is super heavy handed intentionally. He dry wipes with a paper towel the whole time. He inflicts maximum pain to attempt to get you to tap early. At the very start of our 2nd session after the marker was drawn on, I flat out asked him will you be able to finish this today to which he yes. By about 10pm he said we should call it a night. I literally only had maybe 1/2 of a half sleeve. There was so much work to complete still. I told him no I want to keep going. He didn't want to but I was persistent. So we get back to tattooing. I asked him flat out why did you tell me that we would have this finished today if that isn't the case. He said well there are a lot of factors like the way a client takes pain. I told him he put me in a ton of pain but I never once stopped him so what do you mean. I told him I feel lied to, taken advantage of, and just how unhappy I was by this and that I won't be continuing with him. I was planning on getting 2 full sleeves, full chest piece, and a cover up on my entire back. I told him you literally told me that for a full day session that it means we stop once I tap out. He got extremely combative. He said that in the fine print says he only tattoos 7 hrs max. I said why did you lie to me then? He ended up calling me an asshole and threatened to stop my work mid session to leave it. He said it's his right to do so. I said that I'd leave a review about this and he said that's "thats fine, I don't give a f". I'm not sure if he ended up texting his family or people or what. But suddenly around midnight all his people showed up at the tattoo studio I guess to try to intimidate me. I paid $ 3,225 in total and I don't have a completed half sleeve. I don't even have a single section of my arm that is complete due to him jumping around constantly. Literally not even one single area of this "half sleeve" is completed. During our argument he scoffed at me and was the mentality of how dare you .. but he admitted flat out a full sleeve is 5 grand. I said okay and I've paid over 3 grand now and I don't even have a completed half sleeve. He refuses to take accountability. He is a very selfish mentality, a liar, and he will gaslight you the entire time. He pretends to be a nice person but he is absolutely not. He takes advantage of people and rips them off.

When we arrived at the shop we felt welcome by all members of the team and the vibe felt like a safe space for us. Eli gave us a sense of calm, like there was no rush. Eli communicated well about the preparation process, and took our design and made it something even better than we had originally imagined. After we left, we both agreed that both his friendliness and professionalism made the session and interactions all positive. So we came away with, both, tattoos as well as a positive experience and memory. After 25 years of friendship (since junior high) this is our third tattoo together, and it was a single line tattoo of four instruments that Eli, brought to reality in the best way possible.
