I haven't been to Mark's new studio yet but I wanted to let everyone know about his expertise. As I mentioned on a review at his previous place, I randomly met with Mark to do an impulse piece on my arm that could've easily been ruined if it had not been completed by someone like Mark. He has such excellent "bedside manner" too, I'm kind of a spaz and can't ever articulate what I want but he was incredibly patient and willing to work with me so that the placement was perfect, even if it meant wiping it off and trying again a couple times. ;) Anyway, he even did a quick touch up on the tattoo on my other arm (that DID actually get messed up by someone) and now it looks perfect. I've posted a photo of both, you can see where he touched up the atom and the geometric window was the piece he completed for me from scratch. I didn't even think about how much work this must've been to get those lines perfect and straight, and a year later they're still perfect. read more

He not only created a great tattoo, but the placement was unique and thoughtful, and he diligently walked me through aftercare. Absolutely in love with the work I got done by Ryan. Since coming here I've sent two friends to get work done and they've had nothing but a great experience by others in the shop. Very disappointed. Do not get tattooed by Jeff. Went in for a small walk in tattoo on a Sunday night. He said he has been tattooing for 30 years so I trusted him. Big mistake. Line work is uneven, lines not connected, coloring outside of lines and solid shading is uneven. He also insulted one of my other tattoos saying how I have scaring on it and said how he had "a way softer and more even hand." Obviously not. Save your money and go see Skot at Sea Tramp for late night tattoos. read more

Mark has done several tattoos on me in the past. I've not had the pleasure of seeing his shop in Portland, but when he was in Asheville he drew and tattooed a very beautiful work of art on me. I went back several times over a few years' period of time, and he always nailed the artwork after listening to my ideas, and executed the designs perfectly. He's thoughtful, friendly, and very considerate of what the client desires and wants to achieve. I only wish it were not over a thousand miles for me to get to his new shop! Got both of my tattoos from Maki and he did an amazing job. I'll definitely be coming back for more. My most recent one was the first time I had ever gotten a big tattoo, on my leg, and he seriously killed it. 4 hours of work for the first session. It's still in the healing process but I've gotten several compliments from random strangers because it just looks SO good. I'll be coming back for a second session soon for color. I had been considering getting another tattoo for a while but my schedule never really lets me plan that far ahead. I caught a wild hare one night and decided to try my luck as a walk in at Kilroy's because I'd driven by it a few times and it seemed open. The shop was clean and well lit and I didn't feel any weird vibes or attitude from the people working. Joe Robertson had some time available and even though my tattoo idea was kind of silly he seemed to genuinely listen when I explained to him what I wanted. He drew up some sketches and then modified them a little when I asked him to. The actual tattoo took around and hour and he charged me 120 which from what I gather from My friends who get tattooed elsewhere was a great deal. The lines are clean and the colors are vibrant. I want to write this review dedicated solely for Joseph Robertson! AKA Teddy Cobra. He did my first ever beautiful tattoo of my koi fishies. His line work is precisely sharp, the shading is at utmost perfection, and the detailing is more than I could ask for. Joe worked with me and my vision of how I wanted my tattoo- sizing, adjustments of the fins, etc. I heard him wash his hands before starting the procedure, which is a small, but very important gesture that I really appreciate knowing. He also checked on how I was doing while he was tattooing me, making sure that I was alright. He asked about my opinions and really listened. We exchanged great conversations and questions to each other. He was very professional on asking for permission of taking a picture of my tattoo and posting it on his Instagram business account. I was recommended to go to Joe, and now with a personal experience working with him, I would recommend Joe as well. This guy is talented, and I will be coming back! His artwork is immaculate. I commend you to see his artwork yourself on his Instagram for some input of his style. I'm very happy I chose Joe to be the first to help start my tattoo journey. He could also negotiate on prices with you, and the store opens till midnight. Although I would call in just to make sure the tattoo artist have the same schedule that works well with yours. Went in as a walk in and got two small tattoos done by Jeff. Very disappointed in how the line work turned out. One of them has a gap between two connecting lines. The other is very uneven, and the lines aren't straight on either. My friend also got a tattoo and she's very unhappy with how it turned out. The line work on hers is sloppy as well. We will both be going to someone else and pay them to clean up his work. read more

At 9:15 on a Wednesday night and I wandered into Kilroy's Tattoo on a whim to check out the work that they do. I had the pleasure of talking to Joe Robertson (no relation) and seeing his art/book. I gave him a bit of imagery based on a song I love and he drew it for me as a walk-in client. We talked for a bit about placement and color scheme (he was careful to take my other work into consideration). A short while later, I walked out with exactly what I had in mind, plus he played the song I that I was inspired by to give the whole session the right energy. Mark was fantastic! I had a consultation first and he really listened to what I liked and didn't like about his sketches. The final drawing was perfect! He was a very chill, gentle artist to work with, and charged a very reasonable price. If I get another tattoo, I will be going back to Mark for sure. read more

Well to start off, we arrived at Kilroy's at around 5pm with appointments for three tattoos. Two tattoos were fairly simple designs, should have only taken about an hour or less. The third tattoo appointment was more detailed work, so we knew it would take longer. When calling to make the appointments, we gave full detailed descriptions of what we wanted for all three, and the man answering the phone was very friendly and sounded as if he had written down all of the notes. We got there with two artists available and ready, and they spent about an hour and a half drawing the sketches up. By this time it was close to 7, they needed a quick break, time to clean, etc. and we had three tattoos that were supposed to be done before 10 (as that was the time they were supposed to close with COVID). Both artists got started about the same time, one working on the quick design and the other on the more complex tattoo. After over two hours, the very complex tattoo was close to finished while this quick design was still not even close! We were all shocked to see how long it had taken for something we thought would take around 30-40 minutes. Finally by 9pm (when our groups final tattoo had not even been asked what he wanted yet), we come to find out that they had "forgotten" he was also getting tattooed that day. So after sitting waiting for over four hours, they decide to tell us that they can no longer fit him in that day. FOUR HOURS! As if that was not irritating enough, the small tattoo design that was finished after a whopping three hours- a very obvious mistake was made with the lettering, which I guess was tried to cover up by the artist by adding extra shading that was not wanted. Although both friendly artists, the amount of inconveniences between all three of the customers were very frustrating. Not great to wait four hours for a tattoo, not great to take an extra few hours on a quick tattoo, and especially not great to have to pay more money to fix an easily preventable mistake that could possibly be on their body forever. I spent a few weeks looking for an artist when I decided to get another tattoo. I came across Mark's work and immediately loved his style, designs and of course the other great reviews. During my consultation Mark listened to my ideas and asked questions to make sure we were both on the same page. He took my idea and turned it into a fantastic work of art that far exceeded my expectations.
