This review is only for shopping for a mother of the bride dress. I went with my friend to help her shop and this was the third place we visited. She was getting a little discouraged after the first two shops didn't work out. The first boutique didn't have a lot of choices and the second was so expensive and not many options under $1000. Bijou was a larger bridal shop and not a formal wear boutique, so I had a good feeling when I walked in and saw several formal dresses that could look great on my friend on mannequins at the front of the store. The lady who helped us was so nice and didn't have any issues with the price range that my friend was looking to spend (not like the second boutique we visited). We actually found tons of dresses for my friends to try. The prices of the dresses were within her limit and there were color options that my friend wanted. We finally settled on a dress that she and I loved. The sales attendant was so helpful and she did a great job clipping the dresses so we can get a sense of how the dress would fit. Overall, the whole experience was easy and pleasant. Definitely check out Bijou if you are shopping for a wedding gown or a mother of the bride/groom dress. read more

Lisa, the ladies who take care of appointments, and all the staff at Bijou were a pleasure to work with during the wedding dress process! They have many wedding dresses to choose from. I love that you're able to explore the dresses on the floor and hand pick them if you'd like. I found my dream wedding dress and felt like a princess all thanks to Despina, my dress consultant, and Sobada, my seamstress. Despina was the sweetest consultant who listened to what I wanted, helped pull more dresses and eliminate the ones I didn't like. She worked with me to make sure the dress was everything I wanted and more! Despina even grabbed veils and flowers to give me the full effect! She was very gruff and had no idea what kind of dress would look good on my daughter. I ended up picking a dress that looked pretty good on her. But Syndy who was our "expert" didnt even know how to pin the dress right to make it fit her. It's a shame. Buyer beware, this business purposely orders dress in bigger sizes in order to charge exorbitant prices for alterations and then after they dissect the whole dress by taking the bodice off and reattaching. When you express your disappointment in the way the dress fits and looks and want the issue to be rectified they want more money. read more

I honestly wish I read the reviews more carefully before coming here. I came here a few days ago, met with I believe she said her name is Kelly (starts with a K) The experience felt incredibly uncomfortable from start to finish. The consultant was extremely pushy, instead of listening to what I wanted, she kept insisting I "needed" certain styles and repeatedly tried to upsell me. Every time I said I wasn't interested, she brushed it off and brought the same type of dress back in a different fabric or price range. It didn't feel like guidance, it felt like pressure. What bothered me most was the lack of professionalism and etiquette. Conversations about pricing and alterations were said loudly in front of other brides, and there were comments made about my body that felt inappropriate and unnecessary. The overall tone was very classless, more like a sales floor than a bridal appointment that's supposed to feel special and respectful. I left feeling stressed instead of excited, which is the exact opposite of how a bridal appointment should feel. If you want a calm, supportive experience where your preferences are respected, I would strongly recommend going elsewhere. read more

If you are the type that likes to walk into a shop and feel invisible than this would be the spot for you. There was only one other customer inside the store. I was immediately told that I can look at the evening dresses but would need an appointment to try any one of them on. To me that is a turn off especially when a store is empty and there were more than enough dressing rooms available. I will not be making an appointment to try on any of those boring gowns. I specifically requested a dress that was NOT a mermaid style, but fitted. My consultant assured me that the dress she selected for me, and that I eventually chose, was NOT a true mermaid style. Loved the size I tried on (12) as it fit exactly as I wanted to - NOT tight in the thighs - NOT a mermaid style. Measurements were taken and was told I was in between an 8 and a 10, so we ordered a 10 to be safe. Neither the consultant, nor the seamstress who took my measurements informed me that the dress would fit any different than what presented to me. I was also told the dress was created by an in-house designer. Once my dress came in and I tried it on, it was so tight I could barely walk! I was told that I gained weight in my legs (I didn't gain a pound). The manager was called over and she insisted that I had worked out too much and gained weight in my legs and that the dress really wasn't a true mermaid style. Insulting and completely untrue. After many tears and back and forth, we had to order another dress at a "discount" ($1,000 vs the original $3300), but at that point I had no choice. Also, after taking the original dress home (because the store would not buy it back), we realized there was a manufacturer's tag insdie which was Pollardi. Not exclusive and definitely NOT an in-house designer. After finding the dress on the Pollardi website, the dress description states, "Seductive mermaid dress". The manager refused to admit their mistake and was disingenuous about the designer. Do your research before committing because the contract they make you sign alleviates them of any wrongdoing. read more

I'm writing this review to be extremely short and don't worry Lisa, you'll have no record of me at the store since this will be written from another account. All in all, experience was the same. Don't bother defending yourself to bad reviews, every single bad review can't be a lie. Sandy did not seem to care we were there. Didn't seem the care about our preferences. Didn't even pick out dresses she thought would fit the style I wanted, my mother and matron of honor had to scour for dresses and suggest them. The consultation included mentions of size and not much else. After seeing other reviews of this sort of degrading behavior, i can only assume it's a constant when finding the right dress is harder than usual. It's a nice store, has nice selection and other staff members were exceptionally kind and helpful. The consultation was the downfall. This was my third shop I had gone to and needless to say, we will not be purchasing my dress from here. you will find absolutely stunning dresses here and it is still 100% worth a look, but keep your expectations low for the customer service with the consultant. read more

Recently visited Bijou Bridal shopping for a mother of bride dress for my mom. We had first visited when my sister began her wedding dress search. Although she didn't purchase her dress in that moment, we were really impressed with the service and selection. This made my mom want to come back for her own appointment to find a dress. Our attendant, Destina, was patient with us and didn't rush us out when our appointment time limit was up. The selection for mother of bride dresses is pretty large in comparison to some other bridal salons. They offer a variety of styles and price points that can meet the needs of any mother looking for their special dress. The wedding is upcoming in August 2022, so they did make us aware that there are some supply chain issues and ordering soon would be best. With that being said, we never felt pressured to make a purchase. Overall, the reviews the reviews seem to be up and down here, but we found the service, staff and selection to be a step above other locations. Would recommend to anyone! I had a wonderful experience at Bijou Bridal store in Paramus, in late March of this year. I was looking for a tiara to celebrate a significant wedding anniversary and the renewal of my vows. I found the staff incredibly attentive. They made suggestions without being in anyway pushy. They listened carefully to what I was looking for, and in the end, I chose a beautiful, crystal, tiara with a leafy motif, which ordinarily would have cost me "a pretty penny" - that means quite a lot of money, but since it was the display version, and it had a couple of tiny stones missing, they offered it to me at a considerable discount. The amazing thing that happened next is that a member of the staff then went and found me a couple of loose crystals, in a garment room and glued them into my tiara. So now it was just as if new! It was an amazing experience. I am so grateful to those women who helped me at Bijou Bridal, Paramus. They worked as a team, and I will always remember their kindness and generosity of spirit. I ordered in August and was told it would arrive in April. May comes along and I call for a status check, they tell me it arrived today and they'd text me to set up a try on appointment. I called for another status check on May 30th (bc I hadn't received any texts), i was told that the dress was delivered today again. They had very pretty dresses but I'm feeling a bit anxious about it and am looking for more of a direct answer. I would recommend ordering early if you come here! read more

I tried on a few dresses that somewhat fit what I was looking for and when I thought I didn't find "the dress", my salesperson had me to try on a strapless dress and told me that they could drop the back to make it more dramatic and add sleeves (she zipped it down in the back to show where I could get it cut to AND took a picture so I would have it to review later - BTW, they don't allow pictures but she took them for me because I live in Colorado). A few months later aka today, I call to get information on next steps and ordering but was told that they cannot make the revisions that the salesperson promised. What else? They didn't even write down the veil I chose. Can you imagine the shock and disappointment felt upon hearing this? You try a dress on just because, fall in love with it and get ready to order it just to be told that the vision portrayed is not attainable. I was terrified when I went into Bijou Bridal in NJ. It was my first stop when I started looking for a dress and I am not someone who is super girly or knowledgable when it comes to fashion/clothes. To be honest I was dreading shopping and really nervous. Not only that, but I'm planning a pretty short notice wedding so I wasn't even sure getting a dress was possible. Despina was a dream- she looked at some inspiration photos I had (which wasn't much) and listened to me self-consciously half mutter about some ideas and we started trying some on. Then, as I was trying them on and reacting, she grabbed more she thought were the right direction. She was so knowledgable about the store's stock which meant she moved really fast and I got to try on a lot more dresses than I expected. And she knew which ones were possible to get in time or which sample the store might consider selling. I fell so in love with a dress and am so happy. Since the wedding is short notice, they could not do the alterations in house, but they recommended a tailor they use often and she fit me right in without an issue. I had my very first bridal appointment here since we were recommended the shop from a few family friends. Upon entering the shop I was greeted by my sales associate who brought me to the floor and proceeded to tell me to look through the racks and pull a few dresses. This kind of took me aback because I didn't know the prices of anything and also wanted some professional expertise. She then brought me back to the dressing room which was pretty beat up. There were pins everywhere which the consultant tried to pick up and then proceeded to tell me how its been such a long day and how she was tired. The whole appointment just felt low energy and not special. My dad also came to the appointment and she kept making comments like, "you sure you want to show your dad this?" Which made me uncomfortable since I wouldn't have brought my dad if he wouldn't be ok with seeing a bra strap here or there. All and all I was disappointed by my experience and I will not be purchasing my dress here. read more

Great selection and service until I was given the HARD SELL. I was told the style I loved had a total of only 2 dresses available in the entire country, conveniently not in my size AND that the dress would not come in until 2 weeks before my wedding ONLY if I placed my order TOMORROW. After I went to my next scheduled appt at another boutique, I learned the style was one of the designer's most popular and it would arrive in less than 5 weeks (3 months before my wedding) in my preferred size, at the same price without the extensive alterations. I had a very pleasant experience shopping at Bijou this past weekend. It was my first time trying on dresses and the ladies at the shop could not have been any nicer. I worked with Layla, who was super lovely, charismatic, and knowledgeable. I enjoyed chatting with her, even when she was getting me into a corseted gown. The whole sales team does seem to work very well together, though. I would come out of the fitting room with a dress and say "I like this, but I don't like this," and Layla and the rest of the staff would take in my comments and then find a dress that worked. I didn't choose a dress on my first visit and it was totally ok by them. (I followed my appointment here with two other bridal salons and they were NOT as accepting of me saying "I like it, but I am not ready to say yes, yet.") I had an appointment on Saturday for 3 people to try on dresses for my daughter wedding. I tagged along as well as the bride. It was wedding guest dress for 2 sister in laws and 1 grandmother. The women who dedicated herself to us (Jo) was absolutely amazing. So helpful. Gave us ideas, etc. Issue 1) is for 3 people you need to give more time. 1 hour is simply not enough time if you give 1 full our per person. A terrible encounter happened that will taint this place for me. My mother in law absolutely loved her dress and said yes to her dress. We were filling out her online profile to place her order. Out of nowhere a very rude employee comes in and grabs from our own room/rack the 2 dresses that one of my sister in laws was narrowing down to which one she'd purchase. She grabs the dress and tells my sister in law that she needs them for her appointment. My sister in law said these are the two dresses that I'm choosing from and I want to try them on again to make my decision. I kid you not, and I have 5 witnesses, she said to my sister in law with her entitled little smug face, well your appointment is over and it's my turn now. I have clients that need to try these on. For starters she should've gone to (Jo) and said I need those dresses for my client. Not snatch them from us and be so nasty about it. My sister in law was upset and wanted to leave immediately not purchase one thing from Bijou. I convinced her to not let a rotten employee make her fell less then dirt and she's here to spend money and buy what she likes. Jo intervened and told the crappy employee to leave the dresses alone and my sister in law took them back from her hand. The employee said (wow you are so aggressive). I was beyond fuming seeing this all take place. Some women came to us and said she was sorry and I said well your F..ing entitled employee is very rude. Yes, I cursed but not at the top of my lungs and they made it seem like they never heard the F word in their life but I was so angry to be treated that way. Bridal boutiques should be rolling out the red carpet! Handle your rude employees. Send them for customer service etiquette training Lord knows they need it bad. My mother in law did order her dress because again she had a good experience with Jo and for an older person it's hard to find something that makes you feel comfortable. I truly wish she didn't spend money there but I had to think of her needs before mine. My other 2 sister in laws refused to give a dime to the place. I can't blame them. After seeing this I will never recommend Bijou bridal. People there are so many wonderful bridal places in Bergen county that you can go to. I for one will not go back. read more

The staff at this store is just plain rude and NASTY. I ordered 4 bridesmaid dresses from this shop and had a problem with one of the bridesmaids dresses being way too tight, she couldn't move in it. This problem dress size was recommended (and measured) by the associate and a process the store apparently stands behind (but not really). I helped my other bridesmaids order their correct sizes through the online system and magically had no issues (the non "bridal expert" lol). The dress didn't fit because they recommended and told us to order a size that measured too small to my bridesmaid!! I had to look at the receipt again and one of her measurements was bigger then the dress size measurements!!! We were also rushed through the process in store of measuring and ordering. I just couldn't understand how this dress didn't fit my bridesmaid and just dumb founded that this bridal establishment thought this was ok to do. I told them they were wrong for recommending a small size and as the bridal experts they should know better because they work with these styles everyday. They very openly took no accountability for it or addressing this issue and said "that they wouldn't have recommended to have ordered a bigger size because too much alterations are needed then". They do not offer bridesmaid alterations on site so who are they to decide that?! As many times as I've been a bridesmaid and now a bride, NEVER were smaller sizes recommended- never mind with a fitted mermaid style with no stretch! My bridesmaid is a tall and thin 15 year old girl, she wasn't going to loose half an inch! There was no sympathy from the beginning for this issue, only thing I was told was to bring the bridesmaid in to get remeasured and when I asked " what happens when her measurements are the same as what you guys measured? " I was answered with then the dress should be fine LOLL!! Like what ??? This place is a joke and their customer service is trash. There are PLENTY of other shops with better service and knowledge. They have all these precautions and warnings when ordering online (vs in the store)for no accountability on them, yet when the one dress that was ordered in store was wrong, there was zero accountability . They wanted me to bring my bridesmaid back in to get remeasured like I'm some liar and still have no end resolution. This is the last thing a bride needs to deal with 2 weeks before her wedding! My bridesmaid has no dress to wear and now we're left scrambling. What a terrible thing to put your customers through. UPDATE to my review based on the response from Lisa the manager : I began to "yell and scream" AFTER I was told by the first person I talked to that there was nothing wrong with ordering the smaller size and since one of the measurements was only half an inch SMALLER, it shouldn't have been a big deal LOL!!??! The person I spoke to first did not care at all to resolve the issue and only cared about not taking fault in the wrong dress size being ordered (the same attitude by the "manager"). I also called the week prior to explain to someone nicely that I had this issue with the dress and asked if there was at least an inch to let it out. That person said there should be at least that, WRONG AGAIN. Not only do these people not know there dress fits but the basic information if something goes wrong with the fit. Dresses are clearly not made bigger to the size measurements or what's the point in the measurements. There is no excuse for their poor knowledge and service. The 3 step process to confirming the size doesn't matter, we went to the boutique for the Bridal expertise and guidance in CORRECTLY getting measured and ordering a size. I should NEVER have needed to second guess if you guys were telling me what to order was correct. But HERE GOES LISA deflecting the blame off of them. Bijou bridal was the first bridal store I tried on my journey to finding the perfect wedding dress and I'm so glad I did. The store was very clean and had so many dresses to choose from. My consultant Kelly was absolutely amazing. She was patient, very complimenting, and so helpful. To start, she told me to pull about 6-8 dresses that I liked, and to try all different styles. Once we saw what styles I did and did not like, she pulled specific fit and flare dresses that we decided I liked best. She was very patient and even made sure I tried my top dresses back on for a second time to see which one I really loved the most. She even recommended a belt to add onto my dress that made it look absolutely perfect. I fell in love with my dress so quickly that I forgot to even ask what the price was until after I decided that this was the one. Surprisingly enough it was under my budget! The only reason I am giving the store 4 stars instead of 5 is because of the viewing area. It was not private enough, that there was another brides family/friends sitting and waiting as well as mine, who were a little obnoxious and kept giving me their opinions of every dress I tried on. I scheduled a just a try on appointment and the person was so rude to my family when discussing the needed alterations "no, we just have to hem it a bit" The dress was huge on me! When I returned for the actual fitting with the alterations person. . . . the required so much work and I was so upset that dress would be so distorted and not look like it should! ! ! The person at the front desk came to the dressing room and argued with me regarding the alterations and the amount of work needed. She kept stating "you signed a contract" "you could have requested a smaller size" I was never offered this option and I kept saying I did not measure myself the sales person did! I made the assumption the staff knew how to do this but I was wrong. When she measured me there was several inches difference everywhere! ! ! My weight height, dress size has not changed since ordering my dress. I couldn't order re-order the same dress in the correct size "not enough time" and I would have to pay for the second dress as well as any alterations- even though this was not my error. I understand that bridal sizes may run differently size wise but really that much? Yes, I signed a contract and fulfilled my end but Bijou didn't. Customer service "zero" out of 10. I will start by saying that I'm not the easiest to shop for as I'm very picky. I went to 3 different bridal shops, tried on 30+ dresses, and would think everything is just "pretty". Despina was our sales associate and she worked very hard to find something that I would think was stunning instead of just pretty. She listened to me, handled my very large and overwhelming family and found the perfect dress. I'm not a person that cries and she was able to find a dress that made me cry like a baby. I'm very thankful for Despina and her diligence in finding me the absolute perfect dress. I must say. I was on the fence about writing this but as I'm in the customer service industry I decided to write my review. I was super excited to come and possibly purchase a second dress for my wedding. The lady who helped me already had known I was trying to buy something off the sample rack so from the start I didn't really feel welcoming vibes. I don't even remember her name because I don't think she even introduced herself. She took me over to the samples and started to go threw them and then just disappeared didn't even say where she was off to. As I stood there awkwardly I had no idea what to do. She soon came back but still didn't say much. I told her that I was open to other options giving her my price point and letting her know this would be my second dress. Through the whole appointment I just felt like I was bothersome to her. She had no personality what so ever. In a industry like this you have to have some personality. So that honestly ruined a lot of the experience. I found a dress and I was going back and forth as to whether I should Purchase. The only plus was she got it down a great amount of money. She then said she would give me a few min to decide. I called one of my best friends for advice and she had said my first dress was more then enough. At that point the lady had come back and was over hearing this convo and basically rolling her eyes and seemed very aggravated that they were telling me not to purchase the dress. I decided instead to purchase a veil that I loved. She took me to the front and I had asked if the veil came in white because I believed my first dress to be white not ivory. I showed them the dress and were convinced it was ivory. They told me to call the store that I got the dress from. I told them they had closed early due to the holiday weekend. I said I would call them when they reopen. The lady that was helping me seemed so pissed off. You could tell by her facial expressions and the fact she basically almost threw the veil at the lady at the front desk. I definitely won't be back to purchase that veil after that reaction. This place has no idea what customer service is at all! I just felt like they wanted to sell sell sell and didn't care about anything else. I will definitely be telling my fellow brides beware. I was in a couple weeks ago with my mom to look at headpieces for my upcoming wedding. We didn't have an appointment so we had to wait 10-15 before being helped, so I definitely recommend calling before you go if you're in a rush. The salon itself was very clean and HUGE. Had I known about this place before I selected my gown I would have checked it out. They have floors upon floors filled with racks of dresses. I looked all over, including NYC, for a mother of the bride gown. I bought 2 and was not happy with them so I figured let me give Bijou a shot since my daughter got her gown there. Well I should never have wasted my time elsewhere. I found so many gowns that I loved and finally narrowed it down to "The One". I've gone back for the normal two fittings and I can not rave enough about BETTY!!!! She works miracles as a seamstress. What meticulous work she does and has great ideas to enhance the garment and has a great personality besides. I'm actually sorry I won't be seeing her anymore. My girlfriend went with me this week for my last fitting and her daughter is getting married in 2021 and Betty sold the deal that my girlfriend will be going there for her gown and she wants Betty to do the alterations. Brides look no further - Bijou is THE place to say yes!!! From scheduling to the appointment itself to the checking out process, everything was a breeze! The entire team is so kind and accommodating and genuinely excited to be a part of your special day. For my appointment I worked with Kelly who was absolutely incredible. Based off of my pre-registration form, Kelly already had dresses in mind for me when I got there and also let my family and I browse the entire floor as well! Being self-conscious I was really nervous to try on, but Kelly made me feel so comfortable. During the appointment, she truly listened to my likes and dislikes and gave her honest feedback about what worked for my body and what fit with my overall theme of my wedding. She truly wanted me to have the perfect dress. The dress I fell in love with I was told came in 3 different styles, however being a visual person I was scared to commit to a different version without actually seeing it. Within minutes, Kelly and her team found the 2 other versions of the dress in the store and held them up against me to visualize - talk about going above and beyond!! Without question I said YES to the dress!!!! The whole team, along with other brides, and my family cheered and celebrated together and it was a moment I will never forget. This was my first stop in my journey of hunting for a wedding gown for my big day. I just recently visited in search for a wedding gown & let me tell you that I was in and out of those doors within 10 minutes empty handed & disappointed. I think I waited longer for the consultant to introduce herself than I did looking for dresses. The staff is very friendly, and that's always a plus. However, after hearing so much about this store and knowing they were on TLC's "say yes to the dress" I thought Im bound to find something, even if I leave empty handed at least I'll have more of an idea of what I want. Their selection is very small & they gowns are all so similar. Heavily beaded, satin, fold over skirt, Deff not my style. & my style, they didn't have a single dress that even embodied 1 aspect I was looking for in my dress. The try-on gowns, then though they're samples were worn out, dirty, & just a mess. This place should get their act a bit together & expand their style selection. This place really isn't what I expected it to be. I did not make an appointment and only went there to check out some special occasion dresses. The front desk was nice enough to ask someone to help show me the special occasion dresses and even bought me upstairs to where the gowns were. She let me look around even though I didn't have an appt. I gave this place 3 stars for their service, but I personally did not like any wedding gowns they had at the store. Their website seemed to have more options. The sample gowns seemed so worn that trying those dresses on didn't even seem like it would look good because there were tears from people trying them on so often. As I've said, I didn't have an appointment which played a part in the limited service I was provided, but as far as dresses go, I'd suggest a smaller boutique where the dresses aren't all worn out. read more

I got my dress for my daughter's wedding and they had a good selection and a very accommodating staff. I was especially impressed with Diana, who was my seamstress. She made very creative suggestions that totally enhanced the dress and made me feel comfortable. Great store for upscale dresses. read more
