Theres a reason the Air Force didn't want me to be a jet mechanic. Recently, the mechanics at the White Rock Bike Mart reminded me of why. After struggling for hours with what YouTube calls a "simple" fix I literally threw in the towel and took my bike the mile and a half to have the experts look at it. Fifteen minutes later I was on my way home. Bike fixed, ready to ride. Dignity intact. The guy's behind the counter were patient, helpful, and understanding. Can't say enough about that part. So, if you're an "I can fix it guy" kind of guy who usually can't , my advice to you is: Don't be a bonehead like me. Just take it to the pros. I have been there twice now, once for a major tuneup and then again for a flat tire repair. You can schedule service in advance and just bring your bike in later. That is very handy. I bought my 4 year old a Fit Co. BMX bike for his birthday. Turns out that the year model was from a previous year and the seat was not very durable for a 4 year old to ride on. After a few weeks of calling the company, I went into Richardson bike mart. They didn't even hesitate or question. Took the seat off the current model and told me to take it home and see if it worked. Free of charge. No collateral. I took the seat home and it was just what we needed. This is a "shout out" and a "thank you" to the service guy who went way beyond expectation to help me and a friend with a flat tire. We walked into the service door at 5 minutes after closing, fully "kitted out" ready to ride, except that we had one flat tire on one of our bikes. The service technician told us he could not help us because the store's computers had shut down at closing time. We said 'ok' and walked out. After a minute he followed us into the parking lot, invited us back in, and told us he'd take care of us ... which he did ... at no charge ... including for the cost of a new tube. I've lived in Dallas for 2.5 years and visited 3 different bike shops. None compare to Richardson Bike Mart. We have purchased 2 different bikes from them and loved both. Each time we are greeted by a sales associate within the first 5 minutes. They are knowledgeable, patient, and kind, unlike some other shops in the area. After buying my first road bike, one sales associate walked me through the entire process of how to be safe when riding. He even took me to the parking lot across the street and watched me ride around to make sure everything looked good. After my first few rides, I needed some tension taken out of a few cables, so I called the store and they encouraged me to bring it in immediately so they could look at it! I drove to the store, told the repair shop about my issues, and they fixed it within 10 minutes for free. Unbelievable service in a time when bike shops are swamped with business. Went in today to check out the e-bikes. They have a very strict mask and personal distance policy, which I appreciated. This doesn't mean I should be made to feel like I'm bothering them when I come into the store however. The lady who "helped" me basically just stood there gawking as I looked at all FIVE bikes they had (yes, five bikes). Every bit of information I was able to get out of her was like pulling hen's teeth. After a string of basically yes, no and maybe answers from her, steam was coming out of my ears and we left. When you're getting ready to drop $3,000 on a machine, this is a textbook case of how NOT to provide customer service...pandemic or not. read more

I felt like a kid in a candy store at Richardson Bike Mart. Bike Barn Weslayan is the biggest bike shop in Houston, and Richardson is at least four times bigger. We didn't need to buy anything but we easily killed a good hour wandering around in awe. Right off the bat, we disclosed that weren't in the market for new bikes, but the staff was still excited to show us all the cool new models and go over specs. They love what they do and it shows. In a store like this, I would expect prices to be sky high, but most items were just about as expensive as I'd find at my LBS. Their selection of everything bike related is just awesome. We played around on a tandem for awhile and even saw a unicycle. They have a much bigger triathlon section than most shops, more cycling apparel than I've ever seen in one place, and a bunch of books and bike-themed ornaments. If you want to share your love of cycling with your neighboors on holidays, they have lawn decorations...think reindeer and witches on bikes. So cool. read more

I felt the need to move to a road bike from my mountain bike. My first visit was exploratory. I found the staff to be helpful and they provided me with the data I needed to make an educated choice. My second visit was exploratory as well, but I fell in love with a Trek Madone for around $1300 and put money down on the bike to lock in the price. I sold my mountain bike and picked up my bike a week later. The staff there fitted me to the bike and was again helpful. So what I like about this place is that there no pressure to sell, more so there's always a person that knows bikes and wants to educate you so you become a rider. What I didn't like is probably a good thing in the big picture. THEY ARE SUPER BUSY. When it comes to maintenance work, you will wait. When I was leaving with my bike, a different guy that noticed the glow in my eyes invited me to come a beginners ride on weekends. This was overall just a great experience. I'm not saying the other bike shops aren't awesome too, I'm just saying I probably won't ever find out since Richardson Bike Mart got it right the first time. read more

Bought my Bianchi Valle (commuter bicycle) at RBM in 2007, but haven't ridden it much in last couple years as the gears didn't shift well. I took it in for a tune up, and while the final cost was pricey, it included the tune up, new chain, grips and tires. Now my Bianchi runs like a dream. I've been riding it 20+ miles to lake and around every few days because the ride is so smooth. If you like your bike, don't wait - take it in to get tuned so you ride it more often. It's a serious customer service person who can help you figure out what you want vs. what you need. So I ended up splurging on a road bike when I started out with a craigslist hybrid. I sold my beat up hybrid and picked up the pretty new road bike. We were visiting for a short time and wanted to see the area. I googled and found White Rock Lake which has about a 9-10 mile path around it. We found Richardson Bike Mart from other Yelp reviews. When we walked in, Jason greeted us and got us set up with some bikes. He went over the gears and adjusted the seats. Jason was super helpful, friendly, and didn't mind answering our millions of questions. We rode around the lake even though it was SO hot and humid. There were people running, biking, walking dogs, doing yoga, etc all around the lake. The homes were rode past were beautiful. It was a great way to see some of Dallas while getting in some exercise. We were both dripping with sweat by the end! If we ever need a bike or accessories we would for sure go see Jason at Richardson Bike Shop. read more

Richardson Bike Mart at this location is top notch! I have been coming here for years for bike service and have always had great, speedy and reliable service! This location is a lot closer for me, but its sister store is a great deal larger. One of the big plusses for this location, is that you are so close to White Rock Lake. If you're out peddling your tail off over at the lake, you can just zoom on over and most times, they can have you in & out pretty quickly. I was going over in my mind, if I was new to the area, I would highly recommend book marking both locations! If you have not biked in a while, come bring your bike in and let these folks take a look at your bike. *Keep your eye out for one of those map books that are rain proof that show you the bike trails & paths, and pick one up. I picked one up years ago and loved it. Sure you can always use you mobile device, but as a backup that booklet is a great little investment. read more

Arrived.....tues came no call so I contacted them & was on hold for 10 min...the service young man said he had been so busy he forgot to order them! I got my own & took care of it. Great place! A friend had recommended RBM when I asked for a place to bring my bikes for a tune up. Granted, with the shutdown and virus, things were a bit on the fly, but the staff handled everything professionally and thoughtfully. We brought our bikes in for a tune up. We were told that they were totaly backed up and it would be a couple of weeks. We were disappointed but in the end, they gave us a quick fix on some tires and a brake adjustment and sent us home so we could ride our bikes a little bit first. We then brought our bikes in the following week for the tune ups and again were told 2-3 weeks. You can imagine my surprise when they called 5 days later saying they were ready. Bikes are working great now and I even got a new helmet while I was there. Super great service. Knowledgeable staff. Great assortment. read more

Renting from Richardson was a breeze, the service was outstanding and the bike was solid--highly recommend renting from Richardson, if you're in town for a few days (or more) or you need an extra bike for a friend. More context: Had three days in Dallas and wanted to get a couple rides in while here--researched my options and called around for pricing, availability and bike options. Richardson was responsive and helpful in answering my questions about their bikes, pedals they could install for me and how the rental would work. Called them 90 minutes before they closed to verify they had the bike I wanted in my size and that they could install SPD-SL pedals for me (thanks, Kevin!). When I showed up 30 minutes later, the bike was ready at the counter, pedals installed and gear/tools in the included saddle bag (thanks Joe and team!). The bike, a Trek Domaine 2.1, was solid and exactly what was needed for my two 30-mile rides (to White Rock Lake and around a few times). The bike came with everything needed, had two nice bottle cages, a saddle bag (with extra tube, tire and CO2 cartridge). My rides were great, with me knowing everything would work fine and, if something bad happened, the necessary gear/tools to fix the issue were in the saddle bag. The guys at Richardson were accommodating in allowing me to pay for one rental day when picking up the bike at close on Wednesday and returning it Friday before they opened--they also gave me ride route suggestions over Facebook Message. As if they needed to do anything else, the Richardson guys arranged one of their employees to pick up the bike at my hotel Friday morning (thanks again, Mark!). Needless to say, this was the best rental experience I've ever had. Thanks again to everyone at Richardson for making my rental easy, seamless and enjoyable! read more

My father in law gave them a chance to redeem themselves after a less than pleasant first visit, I decided to follow suit. This is the little brother to the mega-sized Richardson location. So they don't have a whole lot in stock. However, they can get pretty much anything you want shipped within a day or two from the main store. I went in looking for help to bring back to life an old mountain bike that I had decided to turn into a grocery hauler. I had been looking for replacement parts and advice all over town for this little project which I was hoping to keep WAY under the price of a new bike. I really liked how the helped me out, suggesting just the right parts at just the right price. They could have easily done a bunch of unnecessary work and charged me for it but they didn't. I just really appreciated the feeling of having been treated fairly and honestly. They've been known to let you borrow a bike for a day to see if you like it or not. They also have some gently used bikes for sale. My father in law just got a great deal on an awesome low milage bike. Can you say bike envy?? Gah! They've been known to offer you to trade your bike in for cash, which is also really nice. Great service department btw. Like the other reviewer said, not great in the social skills dept, but they make it up with their technical skills and dedication to a job well done.
