This store gets 1 star for having what I needed the day I went there, but their lackadaisical and cavalier attitude towards covid safety has just pushed me over the edge to never wanting to come and shop here again. It's bad enough they all just have terrible attitudes mixed with running a business to deal with the public and zero safety measures, that's fine it's your shop but you clearly don't want nor care to have my business and money spent with you. read more

We've been customers here for almost 3 years. Have spent about $1600 with 2 brand new bikes, tune ups, etc. They have proven to be ungrateful, money hungry scoundrels!! An 8 month old $700 bike was recently hit by a car. Bikers Edge callously looked at it, without even touching it, and said it was totaled and proceeded to show us new $700 bikes. We drove over to Renaissance Cyclery and they took the time to look over the bike carefully and were able to fix it for $200. Steve, at Renaissance, whom we'd never met until then, also kindly started out by asking if my son was ok following being hit by a car. Bikers Edge, who knows me and my kids from our many business deals, did NOT offer a kind word to my son. We will never give them business again! read more

I bought my last couple of bikes from Bikers Edge. I've always been happy with the new bikes but my experiences with the one used bike I purchased was very disappointing. (It was sold "as-is." After a couple of hours of riding, the seat kept sliding down and the handlebars popped off... but you get what you pay for.) The *new* bikes for sale here are not the same as the junk you get from mass retailers. The staff is happy to ask you what type of riding you want to do and direct you to the best bike. For me, I didn't need it for speed or triple diamond stuff... I just wanted a durable bike that was good on both path and pavement. I've had the bike for 20 months now and I've been very happy with it. I was offered free tune ups for a year and was very happy with those too. Besides the used bike, my only complaint is that some of the prices on gear and other related merchandise are way too high. If you need a water bottle holder, vehicle bike rack, or some other doohickey, you will probably find it cheaper online. read more

It's 2 stars because everyone was very nice. There's no question about how professional and nice to customers they are...I also have NO doubt in my mind that they do excellent work....BUT i took my 10yr old bike for what I wanted to be a tune up/chain change/cable work and lot of lube just to get the bike pedaling and functional for trainer riding...they came back with a $500+ estimate claiming they needed to change parts that I didn't think needed changing, especially for what I needed the bike to do (get on the trainer). Long story short, I declined the service and ended up going with my regular bike guy who picks up from home and delivers back to home....got it going and is all set up and ready to go for $183...not sure where $500+ came from...too bad because they are right down the road and I was hoping to make them my new bike shop since we recently moved. read more

When I visited this Bike Dealer for the first time. I was greeted immediately and introduced to a sales person. Within 20 minutes we looked at a number of bikes and the seller worked up a quote for me, and emailed it to me. The owner was hands on keeping an eye on things. He chatted with me briefly. He agreed to look at my current bike for trade. They had a number of people working on customer bikes when I was there. I believe this location has a little something for everyone, this is the largest bike store I have seen in Central Connecticut. The prices were reasonable. read more

Went here for the first time hoping to support a small business in Bristol. The sign on the door says masks are required, but the 2 people who I believe were the owners were arrogant, were not wearing masks and acted like they could care less about doing business with us. Central Wheel in WeHa is out of our way, but so worth the trip as the staff are very knowledgeable, helpful and pleasant! Will never go back to BE. read more

Wow! Such excellent service. I scoured about 20 stores within a 200 miles radius looking for a specific saddle, in a specific size, in a specific color...and they had it! They were kind enough to put it on hold for me for a day or two so I could do the 2 hour drive up to get it. Above and beyond customer service and real lovers of bikes and super friendly. We were on the hunt for my son to find an 24" SE Bike. After looking everywhere we were so excited to come across this bike shop that had one. When we arrived at the store the staff greeted us right away and they were able to answer all of my son's questions. I knew I wasn't leaving that store without this bike. Before cashing out they inspected the bike and tightened everything up. We also bought pegs. They were able to put them on right then. Overall it was a great experience and my son was so happy. Why buy from a bike shop? Service and experience. Sure, go ahead and buy a bike from a big box store, as long as you or your kids don't plan on actually riding it, it should be fine. Otherwise, get knowledgeable people to help you pick out the right bike for you-- right size, right setup for safety and function, right type for the riding your doing, and the right price for the machine you actually need. I'm usually pretty critical and cynical, I am not quick to give glowing reviews. I am not nor never have been an employee or associate of Biker's Edge. In this case though, I am really just a very happy customer! When I find a local business that seems to do everything right, I think it is fair to give them kudos! Friends of mine from Indiana come visit every summer. Last summer, one of their bikes had a problem--the spokes on his rear wheel were shot. Biker's Edge fixed it fast and for a reasonable price and kept us riding. These friends are very loyal to their local bike shop in Indiana and have always bragged about it to me. After dealing with Biker's Edge they remarked, "I think this might be one of the best shops in the country." Needless to say they were impressed. Personally, I bought my first real mountain bike from them and I have ridden it hard for 3 years and they have kept it going strong from warranty service to maintenance and upgrades. I still absolutely love the bike and plan on riding it for at least 2 more years (not that I wouldn't mind a new bike, but I promised the wife!). I also recently got a single speed commuter that has been just fine for what I wanted getting back and forth from work. Biker's Edge also fosters a biking community, weekly rides for mountain and road, an annual holiday party, and more. LOVE Biker's Edge! I recently have decided to get a road bicycle from some convincing from a friend. I tried to go the used route but realized because of my short height, it was hard to find a bike that would fit me. Insert Biker's Edge. I will admit, whenever I would see a bike shop I always wondered why people would go to them, well now I know. I walked in and was greeted promptly and told them I would like to get fitted. They had no problem finding a frame that would fit me. They were SO friendly and didn't make me feel like a newbie. I ended up purchasing a bike from them a couple days later. They put it aside for me until I could find a day that worked for me. They helped me pick out gear, got me fitted and in and out of the door in less than 45 minutes. I asked them probably 100 questions and had 200 concerns but they eased my mind and treated me like they knew me forever. They took their time with me and I appreciated that. I will be going there from now on for any needs that may arise and can't wait to join them for their group rides down the road when I am more comfortable. I highly recommend! read more

I was skeptical about buying a bike from an actual bike shop instead of just a cheap one from walmart or target however my height made frame sizing an issue and bikers edge was able to special order me a bike that had every option I wanted. Spent alittle more money than I was looking to spend but the bike was worth EVERY penny to have a name brand bike exactly the way I wanted. read more

Very good for both service and sales. Staff is experienced and will take the time to explain their toughts on your needs. Mechanics are skilled and informative. Reasonable expense for first rate service. Quick turn around on repairs. I have never had a sense that they were selling me up to something I did not need, usually the opposite is their approach. Arrogant rude owner and high prices made this an easy rating. I will give credit to the large selection of good bikes but the customer service just tanked it beyond repair. With so few independently owned bike shops left, you would think the owner would be grateful you are there spending $400 on a bike for your 8 year old you could buy at Walmart for $89, but I was sadly mistaken. I have shopped at both the Bristol and the Avon, Connecticut stores of Bikers Edge. The owners are very nice and knowledgeable and the selection of bikes is extensive. The Avon store is where I do my bicycle repair and they do a great job. Some of the other local stores use teenagers to repair bikes, but here they only use experts. I have been going to Bikers Edge for about 17 years and I think it is about time I wrote them a review. The owner has a bit of a strong personality, but he has earned it. He knows what he is doing and he knows what he is talking about. And his employees are riders also, so they are all very focused on getting outside and having a good time! I have never left the shop empty handed. Since the 9th grade I have built my own bikes and I usually buy parts online or on Ebay. I think this probably ticks the owner off, cuz when I come in I always ask questions like "Do you have this weird screw in back?" Then he (or one of the other employees) will go find it for me. Their prices are very competitive against any online company when you factor in shipping costs. In fact, about 50% of the time their prices are straight-up lower than online competition. Every time I shop here I think I need to come down more often. They can also build/true your wheels or do other special service to your bike if you are not mechanically inclined. The shop room is fantastic! I remember when they were in this little hole-in-the-wall building on Main Street. They moved to the new shop many years ago, but it is still an impressive room. Open and well organized, it is easy to find what you are looking for (unless it is a weird little screw). Then you have to ask and incur the owner's wrath :-P Seriously though. The owner is a really nice guy. I think he likes to give people a hard time, because most people are not humble or they are trying to talk a bigger game than they have earned. This may not be the most "customer friendly" approach for some, but if you ever go riding on the group rides, you'll get to know him better. It makes sense that a real biker would be most amicable doing what he loves! He is always helpful and he will push you to your max, but he will also wait for you after he inevitably leaves you in the dust. This shop is the full experience whether you are looking for a mountain bike, a road bike, a BMX bike or just parts. It is worth a visit just to see what they have built there. Just dont show up 5 minutes before closing looking for a screw and try not to act like you personally invented the bicycle. Follow those simple rules and you should have a good time! Edit: Yelp asked me if the store is "kid friendly." If you bring your kids, you will have to keep a close eye on them. There are kids bikes and bike gear, but there is a lot of expensive stuff in the shop and customers with small children should be respectful of that for their own safety as well as being considerate of the shop. read more

BAD EXPERIENCE. HIGHLY UNPROFESSIONAL! I used to use Biker's Edge for years when it was owned by its previous owner Ed. I needed a replacement part for an older bike that they didn't carry but gladly ordered for me. I got the new part but could not wait for them to service the bike so I went to Newington Bicycle where I originally purchased the bike and they told me to come in and they would fix the bike while I wait. I did. When I got there I was told by their mechanic of 30 years that it was the wrong part and they wouldn't guarantee that it would work and would to install it. I returned to Biker's Edge telling Hans (mechanic) that it was the wrong part and that I just missed a great opportunity to get my bike fixed on the spot. I was desperately trying to find someone to fix my bike so I could take it on a trip the same week. Hans became quite indignant saying that the mechanic at Newington Bike didn't know what he was doing and that he could make the part work. I'm not an expert so I said "show me." He proceeded to say quite belligerently, "Yeah, bring it in and I'll fix it and won't see my kids tonight. You bring in this "ancient" bike and expect it to be fixed!" Correction. I asked if they could provide me with a part and they did (although the wrong one) which I paid for and was waiting only for someone to install it. I didn't expect to come into Biker's Edge to get insulted and made to feel like crap. I then went into my car and called my contact at Newington to tell him what happened and he confirmed that it was not the right part. Additionally, I was told it was not the correct by a third party, Bobby Sprockets of Southington, so that's two experienced opinions against one. All I wanted was my bike fixed and I was quite patient about it. I will NEVER set foot in Biker's Edge again. Their short-sightedness costs them potentially two new bike sales plus all the potential loss in sales after I get done telling all my friends about their horrible service. I may have needed a simple part today, but had they treated me in a respectful and professional manner, they could have been the "go to" business to buy two new bikes. Such a shame that people out there just don't get that it's all about "solving the customer's problem." No one cares about how many new flashy bikes you have aligned on your walls or how many years mechanical experiences you have. It's about treating the customer right so they tell all their friends how great you are. If I behaved like this in my business I'd be broke. And don't tell me to have a nice day after I just spent $50 trying to put in a $10 part without success! You lose! read more

I would rate bikers edge zero stars if possible, yes it was really that bad. Bob's (the owner) demeanor was accusatory and insulting from the very first interaction. I had accompanied my girlfriend to look for a mountain bike to purchase and informed Bob that she is interested in a 15 inch size frame. He said that only people who are going to buy from the internet are interested in sizing the bike first. After reviewing his stock without finding the size we were looking for he tried a hard sales tactic and pushed a hybrid bike on us. I told him we were only interested in a mountain bike, but he insisted on trying to sell us the hybrid. I told him that he needed a lesson in sales as the first rule of sales is to respect your customer and listen to them. He told us to get out of his store while hurling expletives at us. Bottom line: stay away unless you like being abused by someone who knows nothing about the product he is selling. read more

We visited the Bikers Edge 2 in Torrington today and were delighted by the service we received. Dave was working on a bike, showed us his line-up of bikes that needed to be fixed and told us next week was the earliest he could get us in. In finding out we were on vacation with limited time, he fixed the wheel on the bike we had brought in. Immediately. We were really hoping for a tune-up, but after seeing the load he was under we were more than fine with him just fixing the tire. Lo and behold he actually did a quickie tune-up and fixed my tire and the price was so beyond reasonable! They once lost my girlfriend's repair ticket and made her go back home and get her copy in order to prove she paid in advance. Totally unprofessional. They also told me over the phone that they stocked a part that they didn't have. I trekked down there just to find out that they were out. Bought a Cannondale Synapse road bike there a number of years ago. I have had all of my maintenance and repairs done in the Bristol shop and have always been impressed with the results and staff's willingness to discus their products and offers to bring something in if it is not in stock. I recently had to replace the chain rings on my bike and found they are no longer made. The shop offered to find them from the aftermarket or if I could find the original product online, they would do the installation. I ended up finding the product online and decided to do the repair myself but I appreciated their input. Prices are fair and service is timely. read more

Rude, sarcastic, incompetent. Biker's Edge had my cracked frame for warranty for close to five months. I finally went to get it to take it to a different shop. When I mentioned I was coming to pick it up, Bob hung up on me mid-sentence. When I was there, one of his comments was "We were told you didn't need it right away". The phone calls every month weren't just to say hello. His last comment was, "Don't blame us, it's Specialized's fault". I took the frame to Family Bike in Agawam, MA (also a Specialized dealer) and a replacement frame was shipped within two days. I've never dealt with such unprofessional people in my life.
