The guy claimed to fix my brake and charge me 200 bucks for the brake repair then I wrote off after that and to find out my brakes didn't work going down the hill and I got a new an accident.. This guy is a total dick.. then when some poor guy with the E bike showed up, he told whole ass as soon as he came in, and the guy was trying to buy brakes with and this guy Bobby the owner was such an asshole to him and me to get out of there and didn't even give us some money back for a repair he didn't do . I would never go back to that place honestly after 19 years of service this guy is a low bowling low down crook.. There's a bunch of bikes didn't even work. They gave a customer one back that he never even finished. this owner is by far the worst guy. read more

Bobby looked at his bike and handed me what I was missing as well as a few spares for the future. What a difference a tuneup makes. I brought my bike in to be tuned up and I couldn't believe what a difference it made in my ride. Christian was awesome and helpful. Not only did he help me with my bicycle but he help me with my bike rack. The owner helped me adjust my seat properly and help me to find the right straps for my bike rack. Dropped off bike (Scott Genius, $5K) for service. Owner said he would service, apparently he is not competent enough to fix normal mountain bike issues. Left a message , after two days of keeping my bike, telling me that he does not want to get involved in repairs due to guarantee of his craftsmanship, complexity of issues, lol.... I have made the repairs and servicing myself but wanted to support local bike shop, I'm into road/all bicycling but this action would not steer me here. hands down, the best bike shop i have been to in years. A few months ago my wife wanted a new bicycle. I stopped in here on the way home from work one night and talked to them and after talking I decided to bring her in the next day for some test rides. They must have taken out over a dozen different bikes for her to spin around the parking lot. we narrowed it down to one and were going to come back to buy it later that day after lunch. The staff here is super-friendly and knew about all things bike oriented, and i noticed a sign that says they tune up small gas engines (lawn mowers, snow blowers, etc) which is pretty cool if you have an engine in need of repair. as a small independent bike shop they didn't have every brand and every model of every bike in stock, which is reasonable. smaller shops can't carry some lines because the big bike companies require small stores to buy big minimums, which is a bummer if you have your heart set on a specific brand you may not be able to find it in a store to test ride. when i called back to finalize the deal the store had closed early, which was a little disappointing - we were trying to buy a bike that day and ended up going to a bigger chain store to buy the same bike we had tried at bobby sprockets for about the same price. I brought my bike in for a front derailleur adjustment on 5/26/20. Nothing too difficult. When I entered, I noticed the store was busy, which I assumed was a positive thing in light of the pandemic. I said, "Hey, looks like business is going good for you." The owner says, aggravated, "Ya, more than I want." I should have taken that as a sign of things to come at that point, but I figured this fix was nothing major. I drop the bike off, and I am told someone would follow up in a few days. A week goes by, and I still hadn't heard anything, so I call in. The owner tells me he has to order a new front derailleur as mine was shot, or he could pull one off an old bike. He says the only place that has them in stock is Minneapolis, so it could take up to a week to come in. I say whatever is fastest, and he says he will be in touch. I wait another week without hearing anything, so I call again. Mind you, each time I call, someone picks up and simply says "hello" without stating anything to let you know you've reached a business, another example of their professionalism. I ask to speak to the owner, and I'm told he's away for the afternoon, but will call me back. Spoiler alert: No one ever calls. I try again the next week. I talk to another employee who again picks up the phone with "hello" and again, I ask for the owner. The employee says "Uhhh...are you, like, a distributor or something? I think he's busy." It's clear that I'm not going to get help from the staff, so I insist on speaking with the owner. Kid says "Uhhh...I guess you can wait if you want." The kid just puts the phone down, and I can hear them messing around in the background laughing for about 10 minutes until he finally picks the phone back up and says, seemingly surprised, "Oh, you're still there? Hang on..." I finally reach the owner, who has had my bike now for 17 days without any sort of timeline on a fix. He gives me the same runaround about how he has to order the part, and I point out that he told me that over a week ago, and he says, in the most condescending tone "I don't know what you want from me, it's not like I make the parts." After getting the runaround for over three weeks, I decide to just go get my bike. When I get there, I ask to talk to the owner. He comes out and immediately starts berating me. "Do you have any idea what's going on in the country right now? What do you want from me? I've told you over and over again, and you keep calling me, seems like you just want to have the same conversation over and over again." I'm trying to remain civil, and I ask how long he thinks it will take to fix. He says "Well the part is in stock now." I assume he means he has it in stock and can fix the bike. He says, "No, it's in stock on their website, so I can order it now." So I point out that he told me the part would be in last Friday, and again he says "I don't know what you want from me, if you want just take it somewhere else or we can just keep having the same conversation." At this point, I decide to just take it and ask if he can simply call me when he has the part in stock to repair the bike. I explain I really just needed it repaired for a family trip on the 4th of July. He says in response, and I quote, "I promise I will have your bike fixed for the 4th" I ride the bike out assuming he will call me any day with the part in stock. Not surprisingly, he never called me. I ended up bringing the bike to Pedal Power in Berlin. They fixed it good as new in about 5 days, which included ordering the part. I don't believe I have ever experienced customer service as poor as what I experienced at Bobby Sprocket. My biggest takeaway was how apparent he made it that he could not give a rat's ass about me as a customer or fixing my bike. This should have been obvious to me when a small shop owner bemoaned having a robust business during a pandemic with many other small business owners are closing up shop. Do yourself a favor if you can, go to a different shop. Don't waste 3 weeks like I did. read more

My wife had a bike she loved stolen from her 20 years ago and was letting herself search E-bay for a similar one. She Found It! Not THE one but same model and color. She made an offer and bought but there was no way to ship it. The owner in Connecticut was able to take it to Bobby Sprocket where he took it apart and boxed up for UPS. I went there because they were open on Monday and Ron likes them. I don't know why Jeremy M thought $10.00 was a lot to fix a flat. Car guys charge a lot more than that and they only stick a plug in. What 5 minutes? In any case I did ask and didn't think $15 - 20 was unreasonable to true my back wheel. Mine was not even rubbing on the break pad so only 15.95 + tax. The service was superb! When I arrived they were there but not quite open. Unlike the Post Office I was welcomed immediately and promised that the wheel would be ready later that day. Around lunch time the call came and I picked it up. Only time will tell if it will stay true but i'm pretty confident that if I went back tomorrow with a complaint it would be taken care of. read more

I was in need of repair on my 7 speed kick around bike. My brother in law said to go see Bobby. I went in on July 12 the. He couldn't have been nicer. I told him I was there on holiday and he was able to put my bike right up on his rack and make all the adjustments. The gears had been out of wack for sometime and another bike shop the summer before told me it couldn't be fixed. Bobby not only fixed the gears but also adjusted other loose and incorrectly attached pieces. Many thanks for the great work. I road all week in Old Saybrook and had a blast. I popped my tire on the bike trail, and walked it down to get repaired. Bobby, was very helpful, and nice. He explained that he could put some rim tape down so the tube wouldn't pop again. I accepted, and let him change the tube. He did a good job, however he didn't tell me that he would be charging for a whole roll of the tape ($6), and not giving it to me after he used the little amount needed. He also didn't tell me that he would be charging an additional $10 for a service fee. I was in a rush, and a little shocked, so I didn't try to question or argue it. The tube was a bit more expensive than other shops. All together I paid a little over $25 for my tube to be replaced. Nice place, but I would get a price quote before you get any services done here. read more
