Bought 2 brand new bikes from this shop. The salesperson did a fine job, no issue with those bikes. Had 2 older but good working order 10 speed bikes that I wanted tubes and tires for and this bike shop claimed they couldn't get tires for the bikes (which was bull). They simply refused to do the work after telling me to bring the bikes to them, drop them off and then after refusing to do anything with the bikes, told me to pick them up. They wasted my time. I'm repos this review because, while it seems the original review mysteriously disappeared, the PHOTO I included in that review remained and was misleading, implying that it was Benidorm that updated my bike. They didn't. Read on: I was given a Trek 6500 hybrid mountain/street bike and aside from a minor seat adjustment I needed to replace the quill stem (where the handlebars attach to the steering column). The reach was too much and I was hunching over way more than I should be. Having explored my options on line, I knew I needed/wanted an adjustable quill stem. This would allow me the greatest flexibility in setting up the bike. Yes, I could have ordered it on line and had it delivered in a week's time, but since I live in town, I wanted to give business to the brick & mortar store during this time of COVID. I went to Benidorm and after waiting outside for my turn (no one is allowed in the store because of COVID), Peter Downs (Sales Manager) approached and asked what I needed. I explained what I was looking for and after he asked me a few of questions about size and measurements of what I was looking for, he disappeared into the store. At least 10 minutes later he exits the store with a part, a stem attachment and says, "I know this isn't what you're looking for but this is what I have. Now we'll have to order a post to attach this to and that should work for ya." He was right, it WASN'T what I'd asked for. I asked for an adjustable quill stem and told him so. "Well if that's what you want you ain't gonna get it this year", he snapped. "They're out of stock and you can't get them anywhere." (Um...I JUST SAW THEM ON LINE, and I could get one in less than a week). "Good luck" he said, clearly irritated that I wasn't adopting his solution, then turned and walked back into the store. That was it. THAT was their idea of customer service. I immediately drove a couple of miles down the street to Ridgeline Bikes in Avon. I ENTERED THIER STORE and again explained what I had and was looking for. The guy there was very helpful, began looking through a box in the service shop and produced two versions of EXACTLY what I was looking for. I settled for the longer posted of the two stems, and asked, "how much?" He shrugged, and said "10 bucks?". SOLD. Went home and installed it. Works great. This is the SECOND experience I've had with Benidorm where, more than the parts, their attitude was off-putting. Suffice to say that come spring, when I fully intend to invest in a new bike, it will come from Ridgeline Bikes and NOT Benidorm. Even though Benidorm is in my hometown, their dismissive attitude is enough that they've lost me as a customer for good. read more

My 11-year-old Roubaix had been a star but knowledgeable riders were telling me that the newer technology would improve my game. I met Jan who immediately steered me away from what I wanted to what I needed and saved me quite a bit of money. I had stubbornly dragged my old seat, my old pedals, and my old ways with me to the new bike. My fellow riders coerced me into getting a proper fitting. This was the real game-changer. I am the king of contempt prior to investigation and I figured that I had been riding long enough to know how to set up my own bike. Jan tossed my beloved Brooks and raised the new seat almost 2". She canted the handlebars down 10 degrees and moved me further back on the saddle so I was pitched forward at a more comfortable and efficient angle. My new pedals are closer to the frame and the overall effect is keeping my knees tucked in and my back straighter, putting far less pressure on my joints. However you ride, I can't stress to you enough the value of buying a bike from Benidorm and then having a custom fit with Jan. read more

I walked in looking for help getting a new saddle, they had a sizing seat but did not use it on me and just handed me a saddle, when I said I would think about it he got angry and put the saddle back up on the wall, I felt very pressured into purchasing anything after that as he was passive aggressive. I will never step foot into this shop again, the whole reason of going into stores especially bike shops is for the customer service, I can say that I got the vibe this shop did not care about me at all and only wanted my money, I wish I could give out zero stars. read more

The absolute worst bike shop I have ever visited. Could not believe the audacity of the owner. I came into the shop and asked him if he had crank brothers seatpost clamps. He showed me a couple clamps he had and put them on the table in front of me. I asked him if he can match prices online... I searched and found the same clamp online for half the price... he made a joke saying sure I can give it to you for twice the price of that... full price. I just looked at him and said well you really know how to treat your customers huh? I would suggest going somewhere else if you like being told you are going to pay double whatever is offered somewhere else. Thanks Benidicks but no thanks. read more

Unreal staff, enormously helpful, stayed late to rig my bike up for me. Mechanically I was clueless, but they gave me everything I needed to get an old bike up and running while I looked around for something new. Suggested options for new bikes within my price range, had me look at the bikes that were best for my build rather than what was at the top of my price range. Best bike shop in the area bay far. Been everywhere and despite having to drive farther, it's always worth my time to drive out to see Doug, Jan, Pete, Jodi and Charlie. Recently took my Spesh Diverge in for routine winter service, they found a crack on the frame (I do a lot of singletrack on the bike) and they were able to arrange for the frame to be replaced by Specialized at no cost. Very upset with service received these past few months. Dropped a bike off 2 weeks ago for a flat repair and potential chain repair. Was told it was no problem and could be picked up that afternoon, if not then next day. A week goes by, call for an update and are given the same answer- will be ready next day at the latest. Another week goes by and call again to be told the same thing. At this point we ask to pick up the bike. "Sure no problem, call when you're here and we'll put it outside". No apology, no remorse, no nothing. Have lived in town all our lives and really love supporting local businesses but extremely disappointed in the lack of costumer service. The best experience I have had purchasing anything in a long, long time. I went to Benidorm looking at a completely different bike than the one I purchased. Peter met me outside with the bike I thought I wanted, it was beautiful. I was ready to pull the trigger even though it was technically a size too big. Peter really didn't want me to purchase something that wasn't going to be perfect for me. He brought out a bike that was slightly more expensive but mind-blowingly beautiful. I immediately fell in love. Peter walked me through the bike, showed me how to use the new fancy shifting technology that came with it and did it while cracking jokes and making me feel welcome. I never felt pressured to be buy anything. I never felt like if I decided not to get it they wouldn't want to spend the time with me. This group is professional, knows their stuff and just plain nice. In a world where we need more nice, Peter and Jan live it. I will be buying all of my accessories, getting my bike serviced and buying future bikes for my boys here. The absolute only place you need to go for your cycling needs. read more

My wife brought her bike to Benidorm Bikes several weeks ago. She had a previous serious bike accident and was ready to get back to riding, so she brought it there for a once over to make sure it was safe to ride on. From my observation, the bike looked in fairly decent shape. My wife imparted to the sales staff the details of her accident. That is when I think they had a way in. She came back with a quote to "repair" the bike that was over $500 for a bike that new costs $700. It became quickly obvious to me they were taking advantage of an emotional situation. I believed the quote was designed to get us to agree to just purchase a new bike. I was not buying that. I then retrieved the bike from Benidorm Bikes and took it to two other reputable places, one in Torrington and the other in downtown Simsbury where we live. The quote from Torrington was $194. The quote from the Simsbury shop was $115. I did NOT tell the other two places about the accident, only that we wanted the bike in safe riding condition. FOUR of the items noted by Benidorm Bikes that needed repair were cited as "perfectly fine" by the other two bike shops. We ended up going with the Simsbury bike shop and everything has been fine. It disgusts me that an establishment would take advantage of my wife in a vulnerable time like that. I felt compelled to relate my experience to at least let others know our experience. I've been going to Benidorm bikes since I was a kid. I used to ride with one of their employees and helped him out of a pickle of a bike accident when we were out mountain biking. I guess he told the story of the bike accident enough times, that whenever I go into the store nowdays, Doug (the owner) knows me by name. I've always been treated well at benidorm bikes. They're not the cheapest bike shop around, but I like to think of them as the best. They have a nice selection of mid to high-end street and mountain bikes and are willing to help with product info and if you want something they don't have, they can order it (as was the case with my 2010 Specialized 29'er). The service dept is good, they do group rides, a used bike sale at the beginning if the bike season and are more than your run of the mill bike shop. They also have a mini mountain bike trail out back, which is great for demoing bikes. I haven't seen any other bike shop around that has a trail out back. Most other shops let you ride a bike in their parking lot. While that might be fine for road bikes, for mountain bikes a parking Lot demo sucks. I'd highly recommend Benidorm Bikes to anyone interested in biking. read more

CANCELLED advertised annual consignment bike sale! I bought a good used bike at this sale a few years ago. I was very happy with that experience and would give it 5 stars. Unfortunately, it was stolen last fall. So I looked up the Benidorm sale weekend and waited for it to start - today. But THIS year, they advertised it and didn't hold it! Nothing on their website and no sign in the window when I arrived Saturday at 9 AM for the start of the sale! I could have bought elsewhere weeks ago and been cycling by now. read more

i was not at all impressed with this bike store. I went in twice once to get my bike serviced with an intent to possible buy a new bike $3000 or so price range. The owner was somewhat arrogant and the service was overpriced and not done well. I figured I would give it another try , maybe it was the wrong day and because the store is in my neighborhood. Again the owner didnt want to spend the time of day and was somewhat combative when I tried to figure out what the right purchase was for me. Passed me on to someone and didnt want to take the time of day. Prices were much higher than I ended up finding. Went to bikers edge in avon and these guys bent over backwards and saved me a ton. never have commented on yelp but I thought it was important to promote good service and competitive pricing versus the opposite. read more

We love this bike shop!!! Last year we were camping nearby and discovered 1 of our bikes was damaged. This shop identified and solved the problem quickly, found a needed part and then pointed us in the right direction to the nearby Farmington River trail Biking weekend salvaged! All with good humor and great patiience.This year we went back to say thanks and buy anything as a small way to support such a great place. I've been out of the biking scene for a few years and decided that this spring was the time to change that, so I needed all new gear. I researched a Specialized bike that I was comfortable with in terms of price vs. features. I had stopped into another local bike shop and wasn't really pleased with the reception that I got from that store. So I called up Benidorm to see if they had the particular bike I was looking for in stock, and Jan answered the phone. They didn't have the bike I was looking for but Jan offered me a couple comparable bikes that they had in stock. This was only after she actually asked me some buying questions and acted genuinely interested in helping me. I said I would come take a look at what they had at lunch that day. Ten minutes after getting off the phone, Jan was ringing me again and told me that she had looked into the original bike I was looking at and they could order it for me, if I didn't see anything I liked that they had in stock. That follow-up call from Jan made them a sale on a bike, plain and simple. And all the accessories that went along with said bike, at a 15% discount no less, since I purchased my bike from them. When I came in to order the bike, I actually worked with Pete since Jan was working with a fitting customer. Pete was equally helpful throughout the process and was very easy to talk to. My bike took about a week to get in after ordering and the staff did a great job with getting me setup with everything I needed right down to finishing off the bike with the computer install.
