Joe is a first class tailor of men's suits, formal wear and sports clothing. He knows fit, and gives recommendations of which retailer might have unusual items, or hard to fit sizes. He keeps professional staff, and often can accommodate an emergency alteration, though I'd suggest calling ahead. Joe approaches the needs of his clients in a thoughtful manner, knowing a lawyer might have different requirements than a physician or a detective. He grew up locally, and can make introductions for select clients to shoe purveyors, holster makers, jewelers and a barber or two, should you be in from another jurisdiction. Really the best. Had a classic dark grey suit made here for my wedding back in 2012 and definitely don't regret it. Every man should have at least one good (no, GREAT) tailored suit. If you need tailoring done, do NOT bring it here. The only exception would be if the suit or clothing ranges in the thousands of dollars. It was my first time having any tailoring done and I did not ask enough questions, and I was taken. BIG TIME! Unfortunately it wasnt until after I paid and compared pricing that I realized my lack of research cost me. Joe is the one that "helped" me. He saw my inexperience and just went in for the kill. No prices were discussed and he made it seem like they didn't need to be. No measurements were taken, no time frame was given, no specific work was discussed. Joe seemed like an honest guy, it's so sad that I was mistaken. In the end (after a month), for a simple job that any tailor could do, I was charged more than the entire suit cost me and it was only the pants that needed work. I didn't go to Men's Warehouse because I thought they were expensive. This place eclipses those prices by almost double. He'll talk it up too as if he spent days working on it and then drop the atomic bomb of a price. I learned my lesson though and I hope you don't have the same experience I did. Just know this is not the place to bring your alteration needs, this is the place you come for when you want a suit made from scratch and you have a few grand to throw around. Joe Cairo is my tailor. I needed one because I teach the junior college. If I don't show up in a sports coat and trousers, the kids think I'm one of them. Respect my authority! But I turn my back on labels, east coast men's magazines saying what a man is (please), and their manifestos which are not as good as mine. If Zenga-Aramani wants to buy ads in GQ, I'm not paying for it. But I do like the cut and feel of tropical wool and linen. Joe is patiently teaching me the artistry of clothing and he likes Van Halen, too. Van Halen is my all-time favorite band because one of my best friend's uncles was Alex VH's drum tech (Big G). And Eddie's guitar tech once jumped off stage at the San Diego Sports Arena and told the usher that the band was going to cancel if me and my pals didn't stop getting hassled. Great tailor. He really knows his stuff and was personable. When he takes a look at your suit, you can tell right away he knows what he is taking about. Take your suits here gentlemen. Had the shoulder pads changed ($35) to cotton pads. He said it would take a week to get done, but it was finished in about 3 business days. He didn't have change so he just charged me $30 instead. In this age of mass production that caters to the lowest common denominator, and with the unwashed masses being satisfied with clothes several sizes too big or, at best, fitting "close enough", custom tailoring is becoming a lost art. Luckily, for anyone anywhere close to the San Gabriel Valley who actually cares about proper fit, Mr. Cairo is here. Yes, it is pricey. This is a CUSTOM TAILOR, not your local dry cleaner. If "close enough" is good enough for you, then go to any $5 seamstress. But if you give half a damn about the way your clothes fit, and understand and appreciate the finer points of quality tailoring, then Mr. Cairo is well worth the investment. I haven't been fortunate enough to have Mr. Cairo make me a complete custom suit, but I've had him perform surgery on several suits and sport jackets, and the work has been nothing short of phenomenal. I always know that when I pick up a finished piece and put it on in Mr. Cairo's fitting room, the word "Wow" will always be the first out of my mouth. That pretty much says it all. read more

Joe and his father Bill are truly professional tailors. I've used them for alterations and custom suits for over twenty years. I've been complemented that someone thought they were Oxxford suits. The reviewer that complained should get his alterations done at the local dry cleaners; he obviously doesn't know what professional tailors do. Have some dress shirt tailor from Joe. Expensive but fit n feel great. Fabric is the best. Try tailor shirt at some traveling vendor from Hong Kong, not as good. Also have some pant tailor. The fabric is soft, feel very nice. Also expensive at $450 a piece. read more
