I don't enjoy the food here. My family went once, had a bad experience, and then went again to give them another chance. The "service" was atrocious and the food tasted like it went from Freezer to Fryer to Table. I also had their catering at a wedding and unsurprisingly it wasn't good and lady in charge of setting it up/serving was rude also. On March 14th, 2014, a group of five friends and I decided to go to the Old 27 Grill in Fairhope. On first glance, the place seemed pretty fun. It was full of people and the food smelled pretty great. We went in to see if we could get a table for all of us, but we were told that we'd have to wait a bit since there was a live band playing and people tended to stick around to listen. We decided to grab seats at the bar and order drinks while we waited. The first thing I noticed after sitting at the bar was the horrible smell of bad bar. It smelled of nothing but old beer. After about ten minutes, we saw a large group getting up, so we flagged a waitress and were told we could sit at their table. We sat and then we waited... and waited... and waited. After about 25 minutes of waiting, a waitress came up to us and asked "Have you been welcomed?" We said no and she walked to the kitchen. In ten minutes, she never returned. We ended up just leaving. It's a shame that this place seems to be plagued with such poor service as it seems like a great place to grab a burger and beer. I won't be giving it a second try. read more

We had 3 steaks priced at $19.99,when I got the bill before I was taxed I was charged $61???? How does that even add up!!! I have eaten all over the USA and after eating here i would rather cook at home and save my money My steak was poorly seasoned Ihad to add my own salt and pepper,I do not use steak sauce ever, here was the first time I can remember having to use it to add flavor. On our first visit to the Old 27 Grill back in March, we thought the food was good -- we really liked their burgers and onion rings -- but the service was not. On our second visit last weekend we were pleased to note that the service was excellent. They had live music that evening and the place was packed, but the servers seemed to have no problem keeping up and the food was as good as we remembered from our first time there. We would definitely recommend it as a great place to kick back and enjoy live music (Thurs., Fri .and Sat.) as well as for the food and drinks. To really enjoy the music, try to snag a table outside on the porch or sit at the picnic tables in front of the stage. read more

Very disappointed. My husband and I have been here twice. Both times were disappointing. Service was S L O W. We sat at the bar and had to ask the bartender to take our order. We felt like we were invisible! First time we ordered potato skins, VERY GREASY and I ordered a Bloody Mary, It was "chunky", not appealing at all. I don't want to eat my drink. I had a Hamburger at a golf tournament that 27 Grill catered, it was cold and RAW in the middle. We will never go back. read more

Food is great but make sure you keep ALL your receipts. Our waitress ran our card for another table and "voided" the transaction without ever mentioning it to us. Luckily I checked our bank account. My husband and I have been enjoying Old 27 since the day it opened and I still can't get enough of their yummy creations! My personal favorite is the Holy Cow Burger, this burger is BEYOND AMAZING! The "Holy Cow!" Burger is served with caramelized red onions, grilled tomato, Swiss Cheese and smothered in a peppercorn cream sauce that is to die for... I always nix the bun and get a fried egg on top and all this yumminess is surrounded by hand cut French Fries! I love the atmosphere and staff at Old 27, they really make you feel at home! read more

Really wanted better out of this place...the food was good for the most part, but our service was lousy and slow. It was a Monday night and not busy. The waitress did not know basic terms like draft, tap and bottle....asked what was on tap (several times) and were surprised with bottled beer. As for the food, the mushroom burgers were really good and so were the fries...but when there's an upcharge for fries, please put a sufficient amount on the plate (very inconsistent from meal to meal, some had a normal serving, others really small). My son ordered an Old 27 Burger and said it wasn't very good. He also ordered chili on the side and it came cold and no silverware was provided...because our service was so inconsistent, we had to go seek some out. The food, while good for the most part, was overpriced for what we received. I doubt we'll give it another try. This is, by far, the best bacon cheeseburger I've ever had. The French fries were so so good as well as the fried green beans with ranch dipping sauce! My husband had the "Holy Cow" and he said it was full of flavor. This was my first time to eat at Bill-E's but it definitely will not be my last. Next time I want to leave room for the pork butt/brownie with bourbon sauce dessert. I've heard that this was Devine!! I gave this 5 stars because everything was top notch. Tons of atmosphere, offers a limited menu but filled with great food. Their Tomato Gouda soup is so good that you'll want extra to take home. All of their soups are made from scratch and served the next day. Consistently my favorite thing on the menu. But you can't go wrong with their burgers either. I like my burgers rare, but they leave them a little too rare. Keep that in mind when ordering. I'm not really a fan of a hot dog, but they serve impressive gourmet hot dogs. Place was half full on a Wednesday night. Sat down ordered waters and 5 draft beers. Beers didn't come until 45 minutes later. Asked the waitress 5 times and she said the bartender was the manager and he was working on it, after the 4th time asking said we only wanted 3 of them, they finally came after the food. When the bill came the waitress said they would comp 2 or the 3 $3 dollar draft beers, 2 out of 3 was odd. We even stood by the bar two different times for 5 minutes each time and manager/bartender (guy with the balding down the part of his hair) wouldn't even make eye contact with me let alone ask if he could help me. Just kind of looked at me out the side of his eyes while he very slowly made drinks for a half empty bar. Got pimento cheese appetizer, it didn't have much actual dip and was very unappetizing looking. Sandwiches we got were good. Had to go find the waitress for napkins, utensils and condiments. Place looks nice, sandwiches were decent. I know places have off nights. But, the service was so bad on every level i have a feeling this is regular for them, it ruined the enjoyment of the food. Old 27 has gone downhill bigly over the past few years, and this was the last straw for us. It seems like everytime we visit, there are one, or more glaring problems. Also, on nearly every visit it seems like there is no one in charge...no management present. We arrived around 2pm on Sunday 7/23 after Church and we sat down in the dining room. There was a family seated right inside the front door, and there were two very young children who were seated by THEMSELVES at a table near the restrooms. During our visit, the children threw crayons and a little plastic bottle at our table, and there was stuff being thrown in the vicinity of our table and around the dining room the entire time we were there. We got the impression that they were one of the employees' kids because employees kept stopping by the table talking to them...probably trying to keep them from throwing more stuff. Another interesting thing that happened was a table across the room from us sat there with dirty dishes on it the entire time we were there. Kind of odd because there were no other customers seated in the dining room while we were there. I realize that there is a "laid back" vibe to this restaurant, but I would think most people would prefer not to have things thrown at their table while they are eating. We all got burgers except for one who got the grilled pimento cheese thing. The burgers are generally the best thing to order here. The grilled pimento cheese thing is a mystery to me. The bread is grilled, but the pimento cheese isn't hot, or melted...very strange...and half the chips were soggy. Both times this dish has been ordered by people in my party, they did not even eat half of it and did not order again on future trips. On a positive note, our waiter Jarrod did a very good job. In closing, I believe this restaurant could really thrive with active management, but it appears the current malaise is here to stay...very disappointing. read more

I decided to take my daughter here to have a quick dinner. It seemed inviting, cute country atmosphere. We are always trying new places that we've never been before. We were seated in the semi outside area. It's "rustic" which is fine but every table was dirty or wet. Our server was polite and prompt. We both ordered the chicken strips with fries. The wait time for food was average. However, the food...it was terrible. The chicken was dry and tasted like it had been fried in grease that hadn't been changed in a century. The fries also had this ancient grease after taste. My daughter wouldn't even eat after the first bite. I was hungry, so I did choke down a few bites. Upon asking for the check I told the server that the chicken tasted funny and that the grease was probably a factor. She apologized but offered no discount, etc. Before we left we used the restroom, so there was a lapse before we went to our car. When we came out it was lightly raining so we wanted to get going, however much to my suprise there was honey mustard splattered down the drivers side of our car. I didn't go back in and say anything.. I guess that's what you get for complaining at The Old 27 Grill. Obviously we won't go back. UPDATE: Within an hour of posting this review the owner contacted me and offered to make this right. While I'm not interested, I feel it's only fair to let people know that he was more than willing to do the right thing. read more

Fun place, lots of outdoor seating, really casual. Burgers are tasty, wings are good and the service is on par. Have been several times when the Modern Eldorados have played, like that you can sit outdoors and enjoy entertainment. The house salad is exceptional. read more

Burger meat was very tasty and homemade fries were ok Gumbo was super fishy and almost inedible The wedge salad was a soggy sloppy mess with over powering blue cheese globs and couldn't find the famous bacon. Orders came Out wrong and way after other meals were brought Chips were half soggy and half break-a-tooth hard. Bugs were a real challenge. No prevention was in place until we asked, then a citronella candle was put on the table. For anyone not a size 6, you'll have to sit on a backless bench, slide into a picnic table or get thigh bruises on metal chair arms. Very few other options are available in the main space. We waited 40 minutes after arrival for the musician to sing. Come to find out she was sitting with friends/family enjoying a beer and didn't get back on stage until prompted by staff after we asked. Overall, staff was friendly but it was a terrible experience and a horrible Father's Day dinner with the family. We won't be back. read more

I've been to this establishment many times in the past, but I had an odd experience with my wife this weekend. The bartender seemed out of it and was drinking behind the bar during my visit. The food was exceptional, but the service has taken a turn for the worse and I wish management would keep a closer watch on their employees. I felt uncomfortable during my visit and wasn't sure if my bartender/waitress was "there" during my visit. She left many times to go smoke, which was vocalized quite often, too. Please get a grip on your staff and bring back the quality we once knew. My wife and I will be back to visit, only because we enjoy the food. I would have been embarrassed if my 2 kids were with us, having to explain what was going on. I still can't believe this was real. read more
