This was my first time trying Buster's. The potato salad was good. The baked beans - to me were lacking that good dark brownish red goodness of brown sugar and ketchup...but maybe it's just because it was how my momma made them. I missed a deep smoke taste that I'm used to in my meet - but it was a good portion. The banana pudding was a disappointment unfortunately. I've eaten here a few times over the years and the BBQ brisket has always been good. I think some new owners have taken over now though as I used to see some really impressive looking burgers here but when I finally got around to trying one of the burgers recently it was not impressive and I wished I would have stuck with the brisket. The mac and cheese is really watery and not to my liking so I wouldn't suggest that as a side. The service here is friendly and is usually decent about refilling your drink but sometimes they could be more attentive. The ambiance is that of a strip mall business but they have added some nice BBQ additions to bling it up a lot. Overall I would just stick with the brisket in the future and I'm sad I missed what used to look like great burgers here. read more

Ordered pickup ribs and added on chicken for me and my husband. I live literally three minutes away. Got home and no chicken. Made one quick call and they were so apologetic. Told me I could come back up and they would double my chicken order. Even though I said it wasn't necessary; they did it anyway. They were super professional. Everything was great. So this review is for breakfast only. I was really excited when I saw that Buster's was no serving breakfast from 6-11 during the week, and they have a brunch until 3 on Sunday. The menu is pretty standard, featuring 1, 2, or 3 egg platters, with a choice of grits or home fries, and bacon or sausage, toast or a biscuit. I chose the 2 egg plate with biscuit, grits and bacon. I also paid $2 more for a side of country gravy. If you have read my reviews before, I judge a breakfast place by their grits. Do they really cook them, or just make grits? The difference of course is seasoning and flavor. These had neither. They were a little watery, and for an order, 3 packets of salt and two of pepper should be just about right. So for redemption I would look to the gravy... it did not get any better. This was straight out of a packet and really added nothing to the meal. It was very runny and had no flavor. This is an easy meal to do really well. It does not take a lot to make killer grits and gravy. There are other options in this smaller town where you can get the same thing or better. They do have home fries, which I did not try, which may be a better option. The service was great. read more

As I finish my summer of 19, I came down to southwest Alabama for some BBQ. My stay was in Robertsdale and that is how I ended up at Buster's. Buster's is at the end of a strip mall but on the side in the back, you can see smoke rising. The decor inside includes American flags, some sports memorabilia, and other random pop culture signs. Major props for having a case with a newspaper of the 92 Bama team's national championship. The menu consists of unique BBQ sandwiches and platters. Seems like the chef here loves pineapple too much since it is on like 2 sandwiches. But I went with the 3 meat platter with ribs, brisket, and boston butt with mac and cheese and slaw. All meats were fantastic! The ribs had the popular orange and black dry-rub. The brisket had a solid black pepper rub and was a good mix of fatty and lean. But out of the 3 meats I had, I thought the Boston Butt was the best one in a close race. It captured the smokiness and tenderness of what pork should be. The slaw came crunchy but it had a surprisingly sweet taste to it. The mac and cheese was homemade. It was cheesy and good, but there has been better. There were 4 sauce: white, sweet, hot, and OG. I liked all 4. I liked the white the least and the reason why is because it seemed kind of out of place to me. It just didn't go well with any of the meats I had, even though, I liked the tanginess of the sauce itself. This white sauce was more congealed than liquidly. The other 3 were ketchup based. I am guessing the OG was the base for the hot and sweet. The OG was mildly sweet and more tangy. The hot was more spicy than hot and probably has a combination of hot sauce or cayenne pepper added to it. I would rate it a 4 or 5 on a heat scale of 10. The sweet kind of speaks for itself. My sweet tea was refreshingly sweet! Last of all, I was very confused about my waitress. I am not trying to call her out here. I think she was a little ditzy and I don't mean that in an ugly way. She cleaned off a table for me to sit at, got me a drink immediately, and helped me with my order. She confused me because she brought me my check and I think she saw that my glass of tea was low. She didn't refill it for me. There is a drink station so I got up and refilled my drink myself. She was at the drink station too and didn't say a word to me about it. I refilled my drink a 2nd time. So now I am confused about what type of tip to leave her. She tried making conversation with me about geography but that was not her strong suite as she thought Dothan was in north Alabama and said I-10 was as far north as she goes haha. That's why I called her ditzy. Besides my confusing waitress, Buster's is a must-go for BBQ. I would rank it among the best in Bama. read more

Made a trip to check it out to day from Pensacola. Have to say you will not be disappointed. Order the 6 pc platter. Ribs. Turkey. Chicken pull pork, brisket and sausage juicy and falling off the bone with choice of 2 side for $30.00. Appetizer onions ring best flavor and sauce ever had. I've have been here several times and have had good luck with the food. It always smells good outside and lures you in. The last 2 times the service was below average and the food was ok at best and the housekeeping was below what it normally is. They are normally busy so I guess that happens. Today (July 27th) my wife and I ate there for lunch and sat in a booth looking into the kitchen. There was a large mess under the stove which looked like water or grease among other things. The server got our drink order and had to walk through a puddle of sweet tea that had been spilled from the tea container. These puddles are there where you get your own drinks for "to go' orders, refills and where the servers have to get drinks for their tables. You have to walk through them to get to the bathrooms as well. While I was waiting on my wife's food to get to the table, I was watching how many people walked through the sweet tea and tracked it everywhere in the restaurant. While watching the floor I saw a RAT walk along the wall where the puddles of tea were, get a drink from the puddle and proceed to the corner of the drink area, go behind a 'wet floor' sign, through a hole in the baseboard and back to the kitchen area. I got our food to go and paid over $33 plus a tip for a brisket sandwich that was tough as jerky, a brown potato salad and a order or onion rings that had a ton of some kind of seasoning. We tried to kill the taste of the brisket with their bbq sauce but could not tell which one was the sweet and which one was tangy. They both tasted rotten. We stopped at a gas station down the road so we could throw away the food to get the smell of this stuff out of the car. That's when I told my wife about seeing the rat otherwise she would have come unglued and probably closed the place down on her own. We then had to race home because my wife was about to have the screaming shits! We joked about how they need to do a"Bar Rescue'" tv show there and have John Taffer come in yelling to clean this nasty place up or he's not going to help them. Truthfully this place should be closed for about a week and be completely wash out and start from scratch with new fresh food and meat. Maybe that can get them back on track before they make someone sick. The health department is only a couple of miles away. We have passed by several times and debated if we should eat here. Today we gave it the benefit of the doubt. Yeah big Mistake! We came through the door was seated by one person.. was asked by 2 others what we wanted to drink... 15 minutes later we finally get drinks. The young kid that was "just helping out" needs to be properly shown how restaurant cleanliness is done.. he took the filter base off the tea kettle.. reaches inside the garbage and beats it inside the trash.. yeah my stomach rolled at this point. Next, we have 2 different servers come to the table and look at us like we had 5 heads. Finally, I guess the manager came and took our order. We ordered the onion ring appetizer.. what a joke.. 6 small onion rings for 6.99... and they SUCKED.When the food came out my wife received hers first and then about 6-7 minutes later everyone else's food came out. None of the food had any flavor. The only flavor was the salt and mediocre sauce we added.. the manager knocked stuff off my wife's salad and acted like it didn't happen.. the young kid took my debit card and was gone with it 10-12 minutes and then questioned when we asked where our receipt was.. so yeah we will not be back.. I will cook at home before I waste my time or money here again...kinda funny that another couple with 2 kids left as we did and we're not please either.. too bad Yelp will not let me give less than 1 star. read more

Not worth the price. The on line menu shows 14.99 for their 3 meat platter. We ordered 2 since they were out of brisket. We got 2 meats: ribs and chopped pork. When I went to pick it up they told me it was $54plus for two platters. They showed me their in store menu of 24.95 a plate. The pork was alright but nothing special. We went in there Saturday morning for breakfast. We had been there for lunch and had very average lunch at best. When we arrived Saturday for breakfast, there were 2 teenagers manning the place. They made an effort to accommodate us but obviously no one had ever acquainted them with the proper process. The wait time was long and when we received the food, it was black from the dirty grill! Had a rep bring this swill into the office today. It is shameful someone calls this BBQ! Could not taste smoke on any of the meat ( no smoke ring present). The ribs were tough as a fine leather shoe. I work very close by and decided to try it. I will never do it again. I ordered a brisket sandwich and the waiter told me it comes with two sides. The waiter brough out my order and I was surprised at how much fat I had to cut off my brisket; about one third of my order. I ate my meal and went to pay...it was OVER $20 just for my me! When the cashier said ordered the platter. I told her no, I ordered the brisket sandwich. She called over the waiter and he said that if my order wasn't right, I should have sent it back. It was my first time there and on my plate was a roll so I thought I needed to assemble it myself - I had no idea it was wrong! Both the waiter AND the cashier offered no compromise, no help. Someone got my printed order wrong, after I arrive at home I discovered this. ( guess we need to check every detail today when we order anything ) So as I went in to pick up my order, I watched some food handling that I feel was unacceptable ( especially in these times of coronavirus ) Called the business, spoke with the manager Lynette about the order She became very defensive about the order, tried to resolve the problems with a offering of a gift card, along with saying the business was very busy, and short employees My take on this is if you want to stay busy, get peoples orders correct, and handle food correctly. She was very upset at me for calling. Even told me I can take my business someplace else if I wish. Who does that? If that person worked for me or was an owner they need to learn how to correct problems, not creat more. We try to do business local and try new restaurants all the time. This was not a pleasant experience, nor was the food. Is this the way you treat people when they complain? Imagine how they handle the food if this is the way they talk to you. This was not an enjoyable meal....Not only was it not what I expected, but it did not taste that good. We will take her advice, and suggest you do the same. read more

Nice and welcoming interior. The young men behind the counter were very nice and engaged. Service was great!!! I placed an order to go. I had about A 10 minute wait, which I don't mind if the food is good. Well it was worth the few minutes of waiting! Fries looked a little well done but they were not, served crispy and hot. I hate rancid grease fries. So good marks for having good fries. The portion was fair; it did fill me up. The sandwich was good on a fresh Po boy roll. Another good mark.
