We came to Springfield for the weekend to see our daughter who is 21 , the guy at the door immediately put a big black X on her hand like she was a child ?? Rude and uncalled for because said she was meeting her parents here , he never asked for her ID . They gave us a table shoved in the corner so every time the people behind us were smacking us in our backs and our heads when they moved there chairs . We all ordered at the same time I ordered a chicken harvest salad. It took almost 7 minutes after they served the other six meals for my food to come out! Finally, the waitress gives us a handheld credit card machine, but did not provide our bill before hand just the total! Wow !! I tipped her but poor training , poor customer service . 25 minutes....that's how long I sat at a table waiting for service. I walked in and upon approaching the bar, I was invited to NOT sit at the bar if I was going to order food. I was told to "seat myself" and I would soon be attended to. I watched as customer after customer was served, most of whom had come in long after I had been waiting. I was by myself and I can only surmise that had I been with an attractive girl (the common denominator of all who were waited upon while I was ignored), that I would have had the opportunity to enjoy what I had been assured was really great food. Now that I think about it, those that told me about the great food, were all young and attractive women. So, if you are pretty and can catch the eye of the male bartender, you are, I am told, in for a real treat! If, on the other hand, you are male and don't look 21 or younger, don't bother wasting your time. I have had better service at drunken tailgates from inebriated frat boys. Richard, Katie, Luke, and Kristen, you may want to revisit you who hire to run what used to be a top-notch business and a former downtown fixture. Normally I just go for pool and besides the one ball sitting in a dimple on every table, the tables are nice. However, tonight I had an experience that has put a taste in my mouth sour enough, I won't be spending any more money there. I had just enough time to get in some pool and grab a bite to eat before going out. Usually I just have boneless wings, but tonight I tried the spicy chicken sandwich. I took two bites of the sandwich, which was half of the sandwich due to the corners they cut to keep food cost down, and that would've been acceptable had the chicken breast not been tough, overcooked, and not large enough to fill even half of the bun which was approximately 5 inches in diameter. I ate the extremely crispy but also overcooked fries because I had ordered food and was hungry for something ( also since they're understaffed and my server was taking care of approximately 20 people that I could see, as well as doubling as a bartender, I was playing pool and eating and still had finished the "food" by the time I saw him again) and then showed my server the chicken breast that was on the bun. He was also astonished and immediately said "We'll make you another one!" To which I replied that I was leaving anyway and just wanted a discount since I had eaten the fries. After conversing with whomever made the decisions, the server said that the manager would not give me a discount however, a 5$ off coupon for next time was my compensation. Which I said I wasn't interested in and then after a back and forth about what was going to be done, he said I'll just go get the man in charge. I waited a short time and with no indication that anyone from behind the bar was going to address the issue, I decided that they had swindled me out of my money and that my business wasn't that important to them. This place has closed. Then reopened under new ownership. I was told the menu was staying the same. For the most part it was. ACCEPT nothing is made the same! The awesome hand breaded fried chicken sandwich tastes like a frozen patty! The burgers that were once hand made and the BEST in Springfield seem to be frozen patties. I was so looking forward to this reopening. Ended up being highly disappointed. As have everyone I know that has went back. All the seats have been rearranged for the worse too. People wait your table now. No more going up to the bar and ordering. Honestly they need to hire back some of the old employees if possible. Or at least consult them. I've been coming to Billiards for MANY years. It was my mom's favorite place to go after work in college and it soon after became her favorite place to bring me growing up! I'm still not the best at playing pool, but the atmosphere is something that is so rare and unique. There's so many people that have been going there for years as well as just people looking for a place to blow off steam after work. As far as the food, I always recommend my friends to get the fried pickles. And the drinks? I suggest cranberry juice and vodka. But if you aren't looking for either, it's just a fun place to hang out and shoot some pool. read more

The guy plays a lot of pool. He grew up playing and when we moved to Missouri, we spent some time looking for a place to hang out. This is the place. We show up, usually a couple of times a week and shoot a few games. They've got a large number of regulation sized tables, kept in good shape. Unlike many other pool halls, there's also a ton of available seating, so it's great if you've got a wife more intent on boozing than actually playing. Hypothetically. The place is a bit dated but clean, including the ladies' room. They've got a full bar and give a generous pour. The beer selection is very decent and they occasionally add to it. The happy hour is fab if you can get there before seven. Lottsa TVs if you wanna catch a game. They even had hockey on this season--for this alone I'm a die hard fan. They've got a juke box if you wanna subject other patrons to your tunes. On the upside, I once heard NOFX blaring the sounds of my youth. It was a very nice surprise. The employees are all friendly. They seem to even oblige our antisocial tendencies and always let us nab a table in the corner. They are always happy to get you a drink or your food--even when it's busy. The day crew once put up with 8 of my very picky nearest and dearest and they were so patient!. Speaking of which, the food's awesome and (even better!) cheap. You cannot beat the people watching--especially late Saturday night. Some real characters show up--everybody's just looking to catch a game, get a drink or shoot some pool. Visiting Springfield for some training with a co-worker. We're both serious players so we were pretty excited by what we saw on line. When we arrived the atmosphere was great and the equipment was very good. It was moderately crowded for a Sunday evening. Most tables were occupied. It's no smoking which is a plus. We got a pool table after a short wait in line and started playing. However no wait staff ever approached us to ask if we needed a drink or anything. Then we noticed there appeared to be only the man working the register, who was jumping through flaming hoops taking drink and food orders, making drinks, checking in and out pool tables, etc. ... and one lady cooking. Occasionally she would carry out orders of food but never offered to take a drink order, make eye contact, say anything, or even acknowledge your presence in any way. There appeared to be no other staff present, making the place grossly understaffed for the crowd. I eventually snagged the cook as she rushed by and managed to get her to hand me a glass of water and a menu. Meanwhile, the line at the register stayed from about 6 customers deep at a minimum to over a dozen deep at times, crowding into the occupied pool tables nearby. After a considerable wait in line we managed to order some food at the register and it came within a reasonable amount of time but by no means quickly, however the order was incorrect. So that meant another wait in a long line to get it corrected. Napkins, condiments, etc. were on you to hunt down. Good luck! After eating we decided we'd've had better luck picking up toothpicks with our ass cheeks than getting a drink so decided to leave. After literally a 20-minute wait in line we got to settle up. The man at the register apologized and explained they were short staffed by one person. ONE PERSON!!! They would've needed 4-6 folks on hand to be adequately staffed for the size crowd present. It's a shame too because this place is really nice, the equipment was great, and the food was good. If you go there, check how many staff are present before deciding to stay. If there are fewer than four, run screaming back into the parking lot. As for the staff, the dude at the register was doing his best under difficult circumstances but was at least cordial. The cook did a passable job with the food but had the personality of a 2X4. If you're gonna work in a service job, learn to at least smile and acknowledge your damned customers you can plainly see are wanting to get your attention. I understand being short staffed but DO NOT understand being ignored. To the owner/manager of this place - FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT'S HOLY, quit being a cheap ass and hire some gawddam staff. Food is basic. The tables are standard size. Way over priced. Guess you can charge that since they have the 9 ball championship. Not worth it at all. House cues are crap if you don't have yours with you. For the price those better be new, felt tight and always clean, and the balls always freshly polished. Never going back. We went on a Thursday they had open mic night with over 20 local comedians. On Friday & Saturdays they bring national touring comedians. Not a lot of dining area since it is primarily a pool hall, but they do have the 2nd best burger in Springfield. It's called the Hustler Club (as in pool hustler). Eat one and wash it down with a cold beer. The blue room is a small meeting space that is available for rentals. Almost 20 years in the area and never had tried this place. Funny thing, I play pool and yet never thought this place had so many billiard tables. My daughter suggested it on a Friday night. We got right in and ordered at the counter. The website says it's the best burger in Springfield for 30 years. I can't say it's the best burger, but compared with other high-priced burger places downtown, their burger rocked. My daughter ordered the chicken wings and they were some of the best I've had in the area. We had a great time and we'll be back soon. read more

Wow, this place rocks! We've come here a few times to shoot some pool, the staff is always friendly and to-the-point; it's a bar after all, not a fancy restaurant. The tables are reasonably priced and so are the drinks, especially during happy hour (which is usually when we come). Oddly enough this place shines above for its burgers, they're some of the best in town. Pretty cheap price for a bar burger if you like it plain, pickles and onions are free, everything else is a la carte. There are a lot of options for toppings.
