Oh no, don't forget to bring your own straws and salt. The sarcasm comes from the fact that I closed my bar tab after buying $30 worth the alcohol only to find out that in order to get my wife a straw I had to fork out another .30¢ well I wasn't going to break a $100 nor was I going to put it on my CC. So I recommend bringing along a to go straw if it's your first time. I also had front row seats to find out they they did not offer sugar or salt to accompany the tequila shots, what a bummer and the bartender could have cared less. To polish it off their "lemonade-lemon drop" shots had maybe a "drop" of alcohol I wouldn't waste your money. For 6 years when my husband and I visit family from up north we always stay in Springfield, MO. This is THE bar that we always go to and have the best time. Hands down the best place to go in Springfield Missouri if you're looking to have a few drinks and a good time. Very very friendly staff, a pool table, a shuffle board table, and foosball. Two separate rooms to enjoy. The waitresses even bring by jello shots. This is now our every weekend spot. read more

An old Irish ballad and James Joyce novel, Finnegan's Wake is a wildly known tale. To which I would regale to you now except, well, I don't remember it. Huh, imagine that. If you have a few Irish bars around you probably have a Finnegan's Wake, no it's not a chain, just a good name for an Irish pub. Now our story in Springfield truly does begin with a wake of sorts, the wake of The Bar Next Door. Dead and sold they soon reopened and what you have is a very modest Irish pub. The prices are about average for a pint in Springfield $3-$5 depending on what you are having. You can get pizza from South Ave. Pizza Co. next door if you are in need of some food. And it looks like they might have some live music from time to time. The structure itself is in the heart of downtown and when you walk in everything about the structure looks like an Irish pub except something is just off. They do have some Irish memorabilia on the walls and a flag, but still. I think it's the sound, there is no buzz, no talking and laughing, no piano playing, no merriment. Now they are a new establishment and I will give them another chance. I had a good time and would really like to become a regular, if they can find there niche, there pop, there pizazz. read more

I've frequented this bar for years, and it's a blast. Fantastic bartenders, a few games (pool, shuffleboard and dartboards) and a fun atmosphere make for a great time. Wednesday night trivia is always fun, though it got a little pretentious. Ease up on the ultra-nerdy I'm-better-than-you vibe, eh? Food is downright delicious. The manager guy kills the vibe, hard for me to enjoy lunch when he's prancing around complaining about staff leaving the gas lines open longer than they should and then having to make changes to a liquor order. Refused to give me my card (it was on the other side of the bar). Then charged me twice the next day for $30 and $130+ when I had maybe 5 drinks. Had to cancel my card and dispute the second charge. Don't go there it has been nothing but a hassle. read more

Fair sell pitchers of beer but seem a bit expensive with this being a college town they don't let anyone in under 21 which is not the establishments fault the City of Springfield has some really stupid laws. Was at a city council meeting and they were taking the 21 year old law off the books because it was listed twice in the city law. So it wasn't changing the law it was just removing it from being in their twice and 5 people went to speak reading bibles. So the Downtown area could be a really big deal and generate 10 times the revenue but the 18-20 year olds leave town on the weekend and go to another state and spend money. For what they offer I feel a little too expensive. It seems I had a few bait and switch on prices happened. read more

Loud and rowdy in a way that lives up to its name, Finnegan's is another low-maintenance Springfield haunt that's usually filled to the brim with drunk college kids. It's a crowd that's equal parts blessing and curse. On one hand, drinking here can sometimes be a fun way to reconnect with a more youthful side of yourself. On the other hand, it can get a bit obnoxious, and is definitely inappropriate for anyone who has the slightest hint of claustrophobia. Finnegan's has a great, laid back atmosphere...perfect for a night out with friends. Every other bar downtown seems to turn into hookup bars (lights that are on way too low, music too high, or customers way too drunk and horny) on weekend nights. The bar side is almost always packed, if you're looking for a bit rowdier type of a night, or the restaurant side is chill for a quieter night for you and your friends. You can tell Finnegan's is full of regulars, which I would say is a direct effect of their service. For example, I ordered a Perrenial Hommel Bier (which I must add, they have a large, excellent selection of beer on draft) and when I got up to get another, the bartender remembered my beer and asked if I wanted another Perrenial despite the fact that she was very busy. You could also see that the bartenders knew most of their customers by name, which is always a nice touch. I must also point out that the food is amazing! I didn't expect much going into a bar, ya know, the typical bar food. But from every menu item that was ordered in my group of friends you can tell that they handmade almost everything. I had the corned beef and cabbage...they slow cook and hand carve their very own! This is the first and only I've seen for any restaurant in Springfield to do that. Overall, this is a great bar to go to to relax with friends because of their awesome beer selection, atmosphere, service, and now I must add, also their delicious food! read more

The bartender asked for my ID, after giving it to him, didn't believe it was real. So he took it in the back to get it checked, later he bought it back and it was destroyed. After questioning why my license was bent and broken, he responded "One of the tests we run is a bend test. We bend the ID to see if it snaps or not. If it snaps its a real ID." This practice is HORRIBLE. Cannot believe this business practices destroying its customers IDs as a method of testing its authenticity. read more

Irish pub? Not really... You can't just throw up some Guinness ads and and a Tri-colour flag and call yourself a Pub. The drinks are pricey... five bones for a 16oz pint is a bit much...order the 20oz Guinness glasses and drop the price to $4.00 - $4.50 and we'll talk. The bog is always out of sorts as well. Great potential but needs some changes...maybe an old piano in the back of the room and some better nibbles offered. And teach the staff how to PULL a pint..not just pour it. read more

Had not been in a couple of years, and was looking forward to visiting again this past weekend. It seems that my favorite bar in Springfield has, sadly, gone downhill in a tremendous way. So much of the historical interior decoration is gone, the bartenders are impersonal, management (few of whom I recognized from two years ago), did not care when we explained the couple minor mistakes in our order, and the "local hangout" ambience is absolutely gone. The drinks are still midprice, I assume the food is still good, but we won't be stopping by next time we are in town. A terrible disappointment, given how much we loved this place before. read more

I would give zero stars if I could. I went with my adult children to play trivia, have some drinks and fun, but instead the server was rude and argumentative over an easily fixable discrepancy. She embarrassed me and did her best to make me feel stupid. I complained to who I thought was the manager and I didn't feel like he was taking me very seriously and when I saw him talking to the server in question, they were smiling and laughing. So, I guess this is how legitimate customer complaints are dealt with. I'm the idiot. I hadn't been to trivia in a long time and was REALLY looking forward to it, so it was a real bummer the server ruined it.
