Terrible experience. Thursday night and lower level is full. Waitress says you can find your own seat and there is room upstairs so after not finding an open table, we head upstairs. After 10 minutes and not seeing anyone including wait staff, I look over the railing to see an open table. Table is dirty but we take it anyway. After another 10 minutes, the same waitress comes over and ask about the upstairs. We explain that there is no one up there serving the customers and she apologizes. Takes our drink and appetizer order. After 35 minutes, she brings our appetizer and I ask when we will get our drinks. So she heads to the bar. Terrible customer service. No one should have to wait 35 minutes to get an alcoholic beverage at a bar. I do not recommend this place. Do not go there unless you aren't thirsty and have extra patience. read more

I ordered the 6 ounce sirloin steak medium well done. The first attempt at cooking this meal was a little bit off. The steak was too rare and the loaded potatoes were cold. However, the staff quickly resolved this issue by replacing my meal. The second attempt at eating my meal was fantastic. Drinks over food: that's my take away. We went here with a few college kids and a few moms for a Saturday morning brunch. The boys and a few moms were ready for their bottomless mimosas. Some of us including me we're ready just to eat without the cocktails. Service: The kitchen staff was definitely off this day. I probably took about 45 minutes to an hour to get some chicken tenders. I don't know what was going on in the kitchen but they screwed up despite a few reminders from the server. I got a buffalo chicken salad and that probably took about 40 minutes. Somebody else's entrée came out on time. I know the sites that can sue between a server in the kitchen, so I don't blame the server for this because he can only do so much when the kitchen staff isn't doing their part. He apologized a few times and discounted the food.. The taste of the food and chart was decent. It definitely wasn't top-notch but it was good enough and I would still go there again for the photo but it was not my favorite. Four stars. The server : he was amazing! Keep in mind we had some college kids trying to get their bottomless mimosas. Unfortunately for him the restaurant has a policy that they aren't allowed to do pitchers and he had to repeatedly bring little carafes to refill their glasses each time. The carafes only held one drink worth for each person. So by the time he brought it over, the drink was gone pretty quickly because these are college kids trying to get tie one on. I felt bad for the guy because he was hustling really hard to make sure he could keep up with them. He was super friendly about it and I made sure to tip him Well above what I normally do and taught my son that this is what you do when people are hustling for you. I told my son that you don't look at the total of the bill, but you need to acknowledge that this guy is working hard to repeatedly Phil glasses despite the policy his first to follow there. . My son took note. Life lessons. :). In short, the service made this place great. The bottomless mimosas drew the crowd in and it was a great experience. I've been a big fan Big Whiskey (downtown Springfield) since it opened. My office is just around the corner and honestly I used to eat lunch there 3 or 4 times a week, but something has happened at the downtown location. A lot of the old crew is gone and the new folks are nice but seem to need leadership. Even when they're not busy you can wait 10 minutes to get someone to take your order. On a recent visit (Sept 21, 2023) total wait time from seating to food arrival was 48 minutes and there were only about 5 tables with guests. When food arrived some food had obviously been under a heat lap for an extended period of time. Sadly, Big Whiskey has become our last choice downtown. It has been going downhill and there seems to be no rebound coming. read more

Was lucky to be in town from CA & visit Big Whiskeys. After hearing much praise from my cousins, upon arrival I was disappointed in the poor customer service brought from John. Greeted us very rudely and absolutely refused for us to be seated inside, which was fine considering the social distancing rules, but he did not have to approach our group of 5 in that manner. We arrived maybe 9:50ish, kitchen closes at 10 and Big Whiskeys overall closes at midnight on this particular day (Monday). All John had to say was, here's a menu, look over it and maybe wait to the side until a table opens up and becomes available. But none of that! Very poor, not a fan. Fortunately, we ran into another server Brooke, who was SO great & one of the actual frickin chefs Heaven, who was Amazing! They both worked together to make our visit a bit better and actually took their time to be of service and help instead of yelling at us that we can't enter. Coming from a big city, I always appreciate GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE & I'm big on communication. So thank you Brooke & Heaven for saving my FIRST time experience at Big Whiskeys and doing all that you can to make it great. Now, THE FOOD was bomb!!! My favorite for sure were the Thai chili wings! Crisp on the outside and tender meat inside with the right amount of sauce for the wings. The BBQ ribs were so tender they fell right off the bone, SO GOOD!!!! The steak was juicy and tender and was so easy for me to cut. Aside from rude John, I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Big whiskeys bc of the food. First time experiences are EVERYTHING. Definitely one of the most popular bars in town, but with that being said, this is a college bar. This is the place to go when looking to hang out with friends and eat cheap bar food. Big Whiskey's has many locations all around Springfield, but I decided to visit the downtown location. They have a large menu similar to any other pub you would find in the midwest. I ended up ordering the Fried Pickles and Big W's Pretzel Bites for appetizers and the Santa Fe Veggie Wrapper for my entree. The food wasn't great, but the service was exceptional for a college bar. The restaurant was very clearly understaffed, but our server made sure to still give us the best service! I felt bad as he was running around trying to keep up with all of the tables. Unfortunately, our food took a very long time to come out (around 45 minutes when it wasn't very busy), but again, the restaurant was understaffed so I understood and placed no blame on the server. read more

I've been here twice with my friends for lunch and it's been good both times. I don't have any complaints on cleanliness or the food. The first time I came I had their BBQ bacon burger with sweet potato fries which were amazing. I had this same burger at the Republic location and it was really dry there. The second time was a lunch pick up and I had their hot wings and I think the Jamaican wings and it was amazing. I also ordered the trio dip with chips and they gave me a lot. The service was just okay the first time I went. It wasn't that busy either. We needed to get in and get out cus we had to go back to class so the sense of urgency wasn't really there. However, I recommend this location because so far this Big Whiskeys has been the best. read more

Had the BW bacon cheeseburger with ranch. It was good. Meat was dry and not flavorful. The fries were the bright spot of the meal. Crispy and well seasoned. The burgers could take a lesson from them. The bacon was as unflattering as anything I have had, I LOVE bacon, but I tried several pieces and there was zero flavor!! Not sure what they did, but might change the bacon brand. The service was good. There were 3 other tables and he was pretty responsive. I do appreciate that they are doing service under trying circumstances, but I always try the burger before steak and if this burger is an indicator, I am concerned about the flavor and tenderness of a steak. read more

I used to come here all the time but the last couple of times it has been the worst service I've ever received. Our drinks took 30 minutes to come out and we're melted. Our orders were completely wrong. We had to ask four times for our check and never received it. We honestly were not upset at first but after being ignored after asking the forth time for a reciept in a non crowded restaurant, it gets pretty frustrating. We were there for almost three hours. It took an hour and a half to get food and waited an hour and a half to get a check we never got. We ended up just leaving cash and getting out of there. read more

Please take the moniker Sports Bar off of the description. It is anything but. Me, my wife and sister in law went there to watch two marquis CFB games. Had to ask several times to change a tv that wasn't even showing sports to one of the games and then 10 minutes later the manager tried changing off the game I requested. I really like the vibe of this place. The servers were really friendly and the atmosphere was nice to go have a beer or two. We sat outside on the porch but when I went inside later on, I saw that they also have an upstairs for additional seating. The only reason I give this place 4 not 5 stars is the fact that it does not serve any pitchers which is ridiculous in my opinion.
