This place has to be the slowest repair shop on the planet. They've had my item for five weeks with three of those weeks not even starting on the repair and looking at it I had to call and actually ask. This was a simple repair. I took my lawnmower in to be repaired. It was there for almost 2 weeks and nobody called me back. the first time I called they hadn't looked at it after a week. Finally four more days went by and I decided I was gonna pick it up and take it somewhere else. I was pretty disappointed in trying to support local business. Josue laughed at me when I first brought it in. When I went to pick it up, I was told that parts are really hard to get for this mower. That's funny because I ordered a brand new carburetor kit on Amazon. I got it in two days and I installed it myself saving Bill's lawnmower from making any money. I took my Duromax engine in to get repaired because it wasn't running. Bill looked at it and said It was the carburetor. He could smell it was burnt. He said he couldn't fix it. Recommended I go to Harbor Freight and look at the 212 engine and maybe buy it for parts. I saw the 212 carburetor was the same one that's on my engine. I bought a 212 carburetor for $16 on Amazon and installed it on my engine. My engine started on the 3rd pull and runs great. I want to thank Bill for his honesty and expertise. I have found myself in Bill's shop a handful of times over the last couple of years. Each experience has been positive, there is a no-nonsense vibe at Bill's which I appreciate, but I truly appreciate the level of product and industry knowledge that is demonstrated by the staff. With bigbox shops, you end up talking to some random clerk who could be working electrical one day, lumber the next, and they tend to be unable to tell you anything more than what the brochure will share with you. At Bill's I get info for specific string trimmers, mowers, and the direction of the industry or where your repair/replacement costs will come from, on new equipment. Price is fair, some times better than the other big box shops. For myself, I also consider supporting small businesses when all things are equal. I am usually willing to spend 10% over with small businesses. We are all in different places financially, so you do what's best for your household. read more

I bought a nice Lawnboy on Craigslist. It was 13 years old but in immaculate condition. Unfortunately it only worked twice. I was afraid I had wasted my money! I saw some great reviews for Bill's so I gave them a shot. I was more than satisfied. They changed out the carburetor, gas, and did some general maintenance and my lawnmower was running like new. They've gained my trust because they didn't try to create an opportunity make money off of my ignorance. Instead, they churned out a perfect running machine in less than an hour and also spent the time to educate me on future care and maintenance. I paid about $100 but I learned enough from them that I won't need to return for a very long time! That's some good ol' fashioned honest business practice. This guy is a complete "A" hole! Called and asked if they did warranty work on Husqvarna pressure washer. Said yes and I didn't need appointment. Took pressure washer to his shop on 11th St and he said unless I bought it there he wouldn't service it! The guy was completely rude and mouthy about it also. I went into this place the other day to have my Ryobi power head for my "Expand-It" tool repaired. The guy working there told me it would likely cost almost as much for them to fix it as it would to purchase a new one...D'oh! Once he had my ear, he pointed me over to the fine yard tools section of his showroom (the Stihl wall). Let's face it, as the only Stihl dealer in the area, they want to sell you Stihl equipment, BUT I don't hold that against them in any way. Stihl is a well known and proven brand, and their tools are quality. I ended up buying a Stihl "KombiSystem" (which is Stihl's version of the Ryobi "Expand-It" system). You basically buy the power head and then whatever attachments you want to go along with it. Now I will say this, I had severe sticker-shock when I saw the price of this thing. Compared to the Ryobi, it was massively expensive. But, I believe that you get what you pay for, and if this tool lasts me a long time, then the initial investment was worth it. The customer service here was great. I'm not sure about some of the other reviews on here with bad experiences, but I was treated very well. The staff was very knowledgeable, and the place seems to have been around a very long time. One of the reviewers noted that he's been coming here for 25 years! This gives me the confidence to know that when I buy a tool from here I can bring it back and they'll still be around. read more

Just picked up my blower from Glen at Bills Mower. I have dealt with this company for 25 years and he has never steered me wrong or taken advantage me. In fact, I refer ALL my friends to Glen. I have 2 acres of property and have all the good power equipment to handle it. I tried at first to do it the inexpensive way and that ALWAYS seems the wrong way to go. Glen advised that i buy some good stuff and that has been, by far, the least expensive way to go. Many times I have gone it for a simple thing and he doesn't even charge me. Glen can be a bit gruff at times but I know that he is honest and wants to do the right thing. As I read some of the other reviews, what do you expect from customer service? I smiling face and crappy work? Are you leaving a tip? Get over yourselves and work with the experts, not against them. read more

I needed a new primer button for my mower and took it in to make sure I got the right one. I told the young man I needed a primer button and I know it is easy to put on simply by using a socket to go over the primer and tapping the metal ring on. He told me grab your mower and I can tap one on. I brought the mower in and he took it back and within a couple of minutes I heard it start up. Like I said I know it only takes a minute to put it on. He then brings the mower out and then tells me it started first pull but then starts to tell me he doesn't know how much longer it will last. Said he could rebuild everything for $125. Then continues to try and sell me a new mower in the $400-$450 range. I explained I have a very small yard and this one was still working fine. Then he tried to sell me a self push mower for $350 range. Once again I said I was fine just needed the primer button. When he rang me up for the button I got the bill and he charged me for a full hour of labor which he never mentioned anything about before taking the mower. Now I paid an additional $15 for a hour of labor when he took my mower for less than 5 minutes and tapped the new button on. If he had told me he was going to charge me $15 for a hour labor for a simple task, I would have told him I could do it myself. However, the task was so simple and he said I will knock one on for you I did not expect to get charged for a hour of labor. I paid it and decided if that is the way they do business I will take my business elsewhere. I felt like I was completely misled by him saying I will knock one on and his 5 minutes of time was worth a hour of labor for something I could have easily done myself. I left feeling like I was ripped off and was talking to a car salesman just trying to sell me something new. I will not be back there again and when it is time for a new mower I would not spend my money here. read more

There were 2 young ladies working the floor and counter, on the day I came in needing a new chain, chain oil, and lawnmower oil. In the 10 minutes I spent with them; 1) they taught me stuff about my equipment that I didn't know 2) found the right product, changed my 24 inch chain, cleaned up and rang me up 3) didn't push any additional products or services, but still I was motivated to buy a few extra things. FYI I buy everything online from Amazon, or price shop everywhere and make Walmart or Home Depot price match. I was so impressed at the knowledge and efficiency of these 2 young employees, I will not service or buy any equipment from anywhere else. Later on, I went ahead and just did a quick search for what the chain and 2 cycle oil were going for online, I just wanted to see how much more it was at the store, no matter what it was, it wouldn't have bothered me because of the level of service I received there. To my surprise, the oil was only 75 cents cheaper online and the chain was also within 1 dollar of the price I paid. Absolutely happy with this place. Super competitive pricing but most important, knowledgable employees who put the guys at Sears, ACE and harbor freight to shame. read more

I've recently purchased both a 20" chainsaw and combi unit with several attachments. I couldn't be more pleased, not only with Glen but with his entire competent and knowledgeable staff. As a first time user, they patiently explained how to use the equipment from start to finish. I have been HIGHLY impressed with all the products I've purchased, both because of the product's performance, but also because I feel I purchased the correct products for my needs based on the knowledge share that helped me make my decisions. In seeing some of the reviews here, I feel there is some unjust criticism. I truly believe that All the staff are dedicated to telling their customers the TRUTH. Some people just can't handle the TRUTH - that what they bought is crap, that fixing crap costs more than getting something new etc. If you want a sugar coated answer from an incompetent person, this isn't your place to go. If you want competent people who sell you what you need and know how to repair what they sell, this is a superb place to shop and buy products. I have nothing but praise for this business. They call it the way they see it and that's what I WANT when making a serious purchase. read more

My parents actually had the experience, but they don't use Yelp so I am reviewing on their behalf. When our lawn mower broke my parents took it here and Rick had told them it was going to take about two weeks. It actually ended up only being a few days, which was awesome. But when my parents decided to test it out, they noticed a small leak. My parents took it back and they fixed it up no problem and free of charge! Overall my mom and dad were very happy with everything all the way down to the service. Bills team was very informative, and our lawn is looking good as ever. Glenn is a down to earth guy. My family has shopped in both their stores in Tracy & Manteca. They have been very honest and straight forward. I have purchased all of his products. I will give you an example. I wanted to buy a chain saw and Glenn talked to me and showed another saw that was 200 dollars less, that I ended up by buying. They didn't fix my mower right and the old chubby guy got mad at me and told me off. I never at any time showed disrespect or any type of attitude. He must've had a bad day because he went on and on about what I did wrong. But the thing is, he didn't do a good job the first time, but I didn't say that. I just said the mower wasn't starting. I thought he might have issues with me personally, but others have said his customer service stinks, so I guess it's because he has some type of personality issues. Coming from someone who works in customer service it is hard to believe that a business owner could be so disrespectful to someone who was not only giving them their money but asking for their help. The man at the front desk seemed nosy about the customer who had a problem with some sort of a miscomunication with a service charge as opposed to providing assistance to the customer wondering around the shop by himself. It seemed as thought they were more concerned with the price of the product as opposed to the satisfaction of the customer. I possibly could give a five star, but will go with the 4. I have been doing business here with Glenn for many years. He has always been straight with me. I see he has rubbed some reviewers here the wrong way. I can see how this is possible, but he has been very honest and straight with me. One time I had a problem with a mower, when they looked at it, they said it was due to them putting a bolt or nut on wrong (on a previous visit) that caused the problem. So they fixed it NC. That is the kind of stuff that impresses me. Also, his son works there and is a very good mechanic (Josh I think). He has taken the time to really show & explain things to me. I have purchased many pieces of equipment here, mostlyStihl, so, not too much repairs when you buy a Stihl. Glenn has been in business for a long time. I have seen improvements throughout. Glen helped us out on Tuesday, Jan 22, 2019. Let me start by first saying my dad, who is 76, has been coming here for a couple of decades. Without fail, my dad only brings his repair work here. Now I've been in my home for almost a decade and about 5 or 6 years ago I purchased a rototiller and a wood chipper because my home sits on 1/3 acre and I planted 21 trees (mostly a variety of different fruit) and about 150 bushes, shrubs and flowers all around my home and it was becoming expensive to haul my yard waste to recycling centers... so now after a few years of use I told my dad I need to have them serviced and to fix the tiller (it stopped engaging when shifted in to drive). My dad came over on Tuesday and we loaded them up and took them to his "Mecca"- Bill's... Glen was so knowledgeable and friendly that I totally understand why my dad continues to do business with them. As for me, based on the service alone, I gave them 5 stars. So I'm looking for this gasket to put my carb back on my mower. I got to three different shops and either no one has it or no one knows where it's at. A friend of mine tells me about Bill's in Tracy. Alright, I figure it's on the way hole I'll shoot by there and see if he has what I need. Well right off the back after arriving I can tell that the guy working the counter is good at what he dose. (may have been bill him self I didn't catch the name tag) This guy is helping three different people at once and he is still able to say hello to me (patiently waiting) asks me what I need and then helps a customer load his mower in the back of his truck. Before I knew it I was out of there and on my way with what I wanted plus two other gaskets I ended up needing. So all in all great service cost me five bucks and the mower works. I'd like to start with the fact that my husband likes to keep business locally. We have purchased many items over a number of year with with Bill's (Stihl Blower, Gravely ride on mower, Stihl backpack blower, Stihl String Trimmer, Snapper lawn mower) because he likes the name brand products that he carries. Over the years there has been many experiences with poor customer service. They even dropped our ride on mower out of the truck! We have had many times (especially when we were without a mower for three weeks because as Glen claims he did not even know anything about the mower being there) that we had very long delays getting our equipment repaired. After each experience I would ask my husband why do you continue to go to that place? Well now we have another place in town that does a fine job repairing equipment. But my husband kept saying I'm going to give him another chance. Today was our last visit! The owner of this company rebuilt the carberator on our string trimmer 45 days ago (because it was the less expensive option...$80.00) It was not running correctly again so my husband took it back to be fixed. Well this time he was told by the owner of this business that it was cheaper to buy a new carberator ($40.00). When my husband questioned the previous charge he said that he had not checked his cost in quite some time and his cost was much less. Again my husband said well if I had known that 45 days ago I would have purchased a new carb rather than the rebuild kit. The owner then snapped,"I already don't like the sound of this, what do you want me to do?" The equipment was already there so he said fix it. I was the one to pick up the equipment today and have to say that the rude comments that the owner was making were more than I will ever tolerate from a service oriented company! I come in contact with many local people and I will continue to steer people to the other mower repair company in our town that actually appreciate loyal customers. read more
