During the COVID-19 pandemic, they have been releasing a menu at the beginning of the week for a certain day and accepting take-out orders via email (just email what you want and time you want to pickup). On the day of pickup they called to confirm my order ~1 hr before scheduled pickup) and took the payment over the phone. When we arrived at Billy Club, we called and they brought the order out to the car. The whole process was smooth and curteous. Wowie, that burger! The caramelized onions had a great tender sweetness, the blue cheese dressing had a perfect tang to it, and the bun was pillowy soft. I could not have asked for it to be cooked to a more perfect medium. The fries were fresh cut, skinny style and so crisp and salty. Definitely some of the best fries I have ever had even if they weren't right out of the fryer when we ate them. Hats off to the chef and staff! Job well done! read more

We went for dinner, and found this really cool little place tucked away on Allen street in Allentown, across from Mulligans Brick Bar. Very clean, cozy, and inviting open dinning room, and can order food to enjoy at the welcoming bar, too. Small entre selection, but executed beautifully. My husband ordered the duck, my son got the rib steak and I had the tortillini. Steak came sliced up, and was a larger portion meal. The duct was a moderate size meal, and the pasta was on the lighter side. All were very delicious. Appetisers were awsome, and much to chose from. Service was exceptional. We enjoyed our evening. Billy Club is located in the heart of Allentown. Finding close parking wasn't easy but was attainable. We were immediately greeted and seated upon arrival. It's quite small inside but they are seating patrons at every other table to maintain social distancing. We were provided a wonderful table against the wall in the corner with my wife being afforded a view through a small window of a fountain outside. Our first thoughts were maybe them having patio seating there but one of the servers when asked indicated that area wasn't theirs. Our server provided us with menus and described their specials and went over the main menu. In the current environment I would have liked to see disposable or on line menus. Theirs did not appear to be disposable. Our server gave us a few minutes to look at the drink options and then took our bar order. We started the evening with a 1/2 dozen oysters. There were two varieties available, both from P.E.I. Canada, so we ordered three of each. Both were very good and fresh tasting. We then shared their Winter Salad. Our server without being asked had it divided into two portions. I really appreciated his thoughtfulness here. The salad was quite delicious. The greens and mushrooms are locally sourced. The dressing while covering everything did not overpower the salad. We both fully enjoyed it. We were definitely not being rushed and allowed the time to enjoy both our meals and conversation. Since we hadn't placed our meal orders yet we decided to add another appetizer when ordering our main courses. We added the Burrata Tartine. This was quite good and served on sourdough bread from WNY's Breadhive Bakery. For our main course we both went with the fish special, Wahoo. I appreciated that when describing the menu, our server made sure we knew what this fish was like as I had never heard of it before. It is a white fish, that is firm in texture and moderately sweet. It was perfectly cooked with a nice lightly browned and crispy texture on one side from the grill. It was accompanied by a parsnip purée. This is the second time in the past few months having been served parsnip purée and I've come to the conclusion the parsnip is grossly underused. This was quite delicious. I would like to find it on other menus and will be looking for it. I liked that it was served with barley instead of another commonly used item such as rice or couscous. Our meals and service were wonderful. The pace at which it was served was perfect. I liked that we were allowed to enjoy each appetizer at our own pace before the next arrived. I liked that the menu wasn't full of common place choices that are found at countless other restaurants. My wife who's constantly drinking her water commented that her glass never went empty. I liked how our server and another seemed to work as a team. Always addressing our needs but never intrusive. Billy Club was a fun dining experience with delicious and interesting choices. We celebrated our 35th anniversary in Buffalo and Niagara Falls. Billy Club was a short walk from the Marriott Residence Inn on a snowy night. We were welcomed by Eric who was our server this evening. We were presented with a simple menu of small dishes and entrees. There were some specials and variations that sounded wonderful. We ordered the duck with roasted carrots, lentils and onions and also the capellini with clams, leeks and shallots. Nathaniel Bruce Beardsley, the chef, is brilliant. Our meals were cooked to perfection. The sauce for the duck was dark and rich and complimented the vegetables to make the dish memorable. When you look up the meaning of al dente you will find a link to the menu at Billy Club. Pasta precisely prepared is an art. The ambiance of the restaurant is delightful. It is simple and elegant. The music is not to loud, and the selections chosen by Adrienne Barnett brought us on a delightful journey through our college years. How did she know we were coming for dinner? Eric was attentive and not intrusive. The meal was served hot and the homemade ice cream dessert served in an ice cold dish, a smart move to an ice cream lover. Service was excellent and we received both our drinks and meals quickly. I chose the omelette w/ boursin cheese. It was creamy and quite delicious. The bacon had body and was cooked to perfection. My spouse chose scrambled eggs with cheese and bacon, as well. He ordered the 'John Stamos' drink which had a distinctly smoky flavor. Billy Club is an odd little place. Everytime I go I leave wondering why it exists. Like, why open a bar if you're going to mope around and act like your customers were somehow putting you out. It's like the geeks from high school grew up and decided to take their revenge by offering highly indifferent customer service and their friends come by to watch. The whole place feels like some kinda bizarre inside joke. The bar itself is small but cute and reasonably well stocked. The food ranges from very good to not very good at all. The cheese plate is like something you'd get at Tops for a low budget office party - it's edible but lacks imagination. You've had every cheese many times before. Finally got to take a trip to Billy Club after it had been on my list for over a year (I know I've been slacking!) Visitors from San Diego were in town so this was a perfect reason to check out their brunch. They have both savory and sweet options and I feel an overall healthy menu. This was great because I had made some unhealthy choices over the weekend so this brunch made me feel not as bad. I decided to start off with a John Stamos-mostly because of the name of the drink. Yes I am that person you market to and will order a drink because of 90s nostalgia. Luckily it tasted great and I enjoyed it! I then ordered a French 75 because it's a signature cocktail I always gravitate towards. It came in a cute glass and didn't disappoint. I'd recommend either but you should probably get both because it's brunch and it requires several drinks. I decided to order the avocado toast which came with two over easy eggs, tomatoes and their potatoes. OMG it was amazing. I would recommend this to anyone who was unsure of what to get. The avocados were sweet and almost tasted more like guac instead of just avocados. Yum! We had reservations for 11am but if you go at opening (11am) you probably won't need them. We were the first party there. If you would like to go later I would recommend a reservation as the restaurant is small and quickly filled up within the first hour. The service was great he answered all our many questions we had on the menu and gave us lots of time to look it over and decide what we wanted. We started with the charcuterie board, the octopus and the dumplings. They were all enjoyed by us. They dumplings had very nice flavor and lots to choose from on the meat and cheese platter. Most of us got the hanger steak and one got the aged duck breast. They were all very good. The fries that came with the hanger steak were cooked perfectly and went well with it. Made us feel like regulars, too, as did the people we sat next to. Loved the cocktail Handstand! We came for the burgers and were well rewarded as they are delicious. It's very smooth with a low heat that hits after you sip. I got a special cured salmon salad to eat. It included a poached egg, avocado, and delicatata squash: the flavor combination was amazing. I was excited to have multiple excellent options as a vegetarian, and the pasta and vegetable dishes did not disappoint. The culurgiones were like an Italian style pierogi, filled with creamy potatoes and topped with leeks and Flat 12 mushrooms. The Oles farm beets with charred grapefruit was outstanding. The toasted pain epi from Breadhive is a must. Drinks are mostly whiskey and bourbon based, and inventive. We came here for brunch last week and we're blown away- you will need to make reservations or arrive early and sit at the bar. The Bloody Mary mix was on point, as was the short rib hash. We had the poutine of the day which was duck something or another- we honestly didn't love it. They use (what appear to be) frozen shoestring fries, limited gravy/cheese/toppings. 3.5 to 4 stars for the Billy Club. We tried the Billy Club last weekend for my husband's birthday. For an appetizer we shared the perogies. (Sorry, no picture! They were delicious and we scarfed them down before I remembered to take one.) The order came with 3 decent sized perogies and a variety of sauces daintily displayed on the plate alongside blue cheese crumbles. They were my favorite part of the meal - I easily could have gotten an entree size of this dish if available. We both started with wine. The by-the-glass list wasn't that large, but both of the wines we tried were really good. My husband also had a cocktail, which he thought was good and quite strong / hearty on a very cold night. For dinner I had the grinder burger with the blue cheese sauce and he had the duck. The burger was very good - cooked perfectly, delicious sauce, pickled onions, homemade pickles. I didn't think the homemade chips were particularly unique and I think next time I would ask about a substitution. I personally didn't care for the duck BUT (caveat) I don't like duck... My husband thought it was delicious, very moist and tender. He didn't love the sides that came with it, but we both think that's a bit of personal preference. Overall pros - food was good, service was great (attentive without being pushy), restaurant was comfortable, wine list was good. I love the honesty of the waitress - I was torn between two dishes and asked about her thoughts on a house favorite and she gave me a resounding answer versus the "everything is great" line. Potential cons - it's a very small restaurant. We had a reservation (and were immediately seated) but without one we wouldn't have been able to get a table for probably some time. It was packed the whole time we were there. The menu was very limited. There were only two entrees that I wanted (burger, shrimp and grits). I think for me the biggest negative is the small menu. The only other thing that I'll note is that it is a bit more expensive of a place and if I'm paying that much for dinner, I have some "favorite" places that I would probably go to first (which isn't a knock against Billy Club). read more

Just popped in for a drink and to take in the essence of this fledgling restaurant on Allen Street. It's very design is a cooling wash of grays and whites. A blond wooden wall of whiskeys. It's quite an elegant addition to Allentown especially mirroring the ugly Mulligan's Brick bar which sits across the street like a shipwrecked boat. It's bringing to mind the notion of an old man eyeing with contempt this new "whipper snapper" that moved into the neighborhood. Anyway I feel cool and proper and sleek just sitting here so that's something important I think for a restaurant and I'm sure your date would too. Wink wink I'll come back for the food. It was the weekend before my birthday and instead of the usual bday dinner at a steakhouse, we decided to check out Billy Club with a couple of friends. I made reservations on opentable which was easy enough, and kudos to Billy Club being flexible when I called about being 15 minutes late. Service was definitely sub-par, so I was a little disappointed since some facebook reviews mentioned how their service was so great being that it's their opening week. Our waitress, while very friendly, just wasn't around much and we waited a long time to get water and drinks as we stared at them sitting on top of the bar - my friend wanted to go to the bar and get them herself! (don't worry, I stopped her) I wanted to try a cocktail but had already started with wine at home prior to arriving at the restaurant, so didn't want to be mixing (too old for that!). Next time though I'll definitely want to try some of their cocktails. My fiance and I split a bottle of syrah which was reasonably priced at $32, our friends ordered some sparkling wine and scotch and beers. For appetizers, we got the nickel city cheese board, roasted marrow, fingerling potatoes, and the Bread Hive Epi bread. I took off a star for the nickel city cheese board - because I thought it was a complete joke. It had 2 little pieces of blue cheese, brie, and some other cheese I can't recall, 2 pieces of toast and some garnish - for $14!!! I'm sorry, but that's beyond ridiculous. The roasted marrow had a slurp each, but I'm not an expert in marrow (simply wanted to try it) so I can't say if it was worth the $13... the small garnish/salad was tasty though. The fingerling potatoes were basically fancily plated hash browns. The pic I took was pretty terrible but you can kind of see how little there was - it was a small plate and it barely took up half of the plate. And for $8 - simply not worth it. I know I probably sound like a broken record by now and a cheapskate but again, while the bread hive epi bread was really good - $4 for the size? no thanks. Moving on to the entrees. Two of us ordered the hanger steak - very tasty! The meat had a smokey flavor to it and the accompanying potatoes, scallions and onions were all very delicious! One of us ordered the loose cannon - basically a meatball sub, and I ordered the burger. I didn't get to try the meatball sub, but I think you already know what i'm going to say - too small for the $14 price tag! From what I heard, it was just ok - nothing to yelp about. My burger ($15), while the flavor was good, I did not like the roll - it was cold, dense, and stale. The chips I got also weren't all cooked/fried all the way through, so some of them were hard. Honestly i would rather go to the Lenox Grill for their $11.75 burger that is tastier, bigger and comes with delicious hand-cut fries! These days, I find all these "new and hip" restaurants opening up in Elmwood, Allentown and downtown Buffalo all going the "upscale and expensive" route, yet I don't actually see anything to show for it. The decor was minimalistic, the service was sub-par, the chairs were hard and uncomfortable, and worst of all - it was HOT in there. Turn the AC on!!! No one wants to sit in their own sweat while eating or trying to enjoy a cocktail. At the prices Billy Club is charging and the lack of service and food - they can afford to turn on the AC! The entire place was also very bare with nothing to absorb the sound - which meant that it was ridiculously loud. I can maybe see myself going back there for drinks, but DEFINITELY not for food. read more

I've been excited for Billy Club since word first hit the street, and my first visit (during opening week) did not disappoint. Review is only for the cocktails. Food definitely looked good, with the bone marrow as the early crowd favorite...next time! Bartenders were polite and knowledgable. Very good bar service. What the Toronto cocktail lacks in creativity, it makes up for with quality...a simple drink, tasting just as expected, not overly sweet. BC's rye of choice is Rittenhouse. The Proofing Water missed its mark for me...not sure why, but I just didn't love it. I will try it again next time and update. Red Hearts Club was both delicious and unique, one of the best cocktails I've had in town. A must try! All priced $10, as per current Buffalo standards. The bar was comfortable, with great evening sunlight. Swivel stools and bar hooks are appreciated! Location is primo, but I will be interested to see what happens when the late night Allen St crowd is out...the personality of BC clashes with EVERY other bar on Allen, except ABV, which seems to be doing just fine. I know I already reviewed this spot, but it warrants another raving review based on the new menu items. If you're a seafood fan, you need to try the octopus. Its got incredible flavor, paired with chorizo and beans with toast from bread hive. Their cheese boards always impress me. Its curated by the owner of Nickel City Cheese and provide the most complex flavors I've had in a cheese. That alone made me a patron to Nickel City Cheese. Of course, the service was incredible. Eric is their main server, and is always attentive and courteous to the customers. This restaurant is officially my go-to whenever I want a great bite to eat. read more
