The food here is absolutely BOMB. Honestly, if this place served late night in house and delivery, even a reduced bar menu...they'd probably kill it. Buffalo is not exactly known for quality late night bites with the exception of a few solid spots. Roaming Bison has the product, location, and food truck right outside to meet an majorly underserved demographic. Also, it would be so cool to see a fish option on future visits. The catfish pics on Yelp look incredible and we were a little bummed it wasn't on the menu...although everything we did have was beyond. Ribs: sic. Brisket: beautiful bark. My second trip here and I have loved it both times. Top notch, barbecue and a great selection of bourbon. The owner was tending bar tonight, and is a hell of a guy. We spent about 15 minutes talking about whiskey while I ordered my first drink. Very knowledgeable and down-to-earth. I had the pitmaster brisket sandwich, and my wife had the Wilbur, pulled pork sandwich. Both were excellent. I also had a cup of gumbo, which was among the best I've ever had. Absolutely the best fish fry we had this Lent. Bangin' sides, beautifully cooked fish and reasonable price. Honestly not surprised because their BBQ is next level, wings, sausage, brisket, every meat we've tried is fantastic. But the fish fry is an amazing cherry on top of what already is a great spot. Extremely happy to write this review because of the great experience we had here, and for what this owner / restaurant is doing for the community. Looking from the outside as you drive through the neighborhood it is easy to assume that you are driving past another shady dive bar, and to proceed with your night without giving a second off further thought to stop in. You could not be more wrong. We dined here Friday evening, and couldn't be more pleased with our decision. We read the reviews online and looked at the photos and decided to give it a try in the name of good local BBQ, and we found a new top 10 restaurant experience to put on our list. Stepping through the door you instantly scan the room and take in the space; the warm greeting from the staff, the one hundred plus bourbons around the room, and the hours of work with the woodworking from floor to ceiling. We felt like we were welcome friends who had dined here hundreds of times even though we had never been here before. We took a few minutes to go over the extensive drink menu, and once we settled on two good options we set to trying to make up our minds on which homemade BBQ we would try out. The waitress Heather made some suggestions, and we ultimately opted for a brisket dinner, and a smoked and loaded bologna sandwich. It is safe to say neither disappointed, and both were eaten almost as fast as they appeared. As a self proclaimed BBQ enthusiast, I ordered my brisket with sauce on the side so I could take in the smoke and wood flavors from the cooking process. This was genuine hand smoked meat, low and slow, pink smoke ring and peppery bark exterior- big thumbs up. During our meal the owner came over to introduce himself, and tell us his story- you could hear in his voice the passion he has for his craft, and for fine bourbons. It was wonderful to hear how he prepares the meats, and some stories on how he curated the selection of bourbons that were available. Ultimately we left after a much longer stay than we planned- filled with good food, tasty bourbon, and a new favorite spot to see a new friend that shares a passion for bbq and bourbon, but most importantly vision. At any point along the way corners could have been cut with the renovations inside, the menu, the bar, but he chose not to. He chose to open in a neighborhood that most people extract money from with poorly run businesses and predatory practices. I'm so glad that I finally go around to both. You can see my ratings above for each attribute but, I just wanted to say this. I can taste the love and the smoke in the food. I'm a rib guy and the ribs were fantastic but the brisket is probably the best that I have had in a long time here in WNY. They were juicy and, you could taste and see the smoke ring. Also, you have to get the hush puppies. They are freaking delicious. I enjoyed the collard greens as well. My only issue is due to my preferences. I love beer. They have it but it's just a few staples. I wish the list had about 8 to 10 beers that paired well with the food. Besides that, I am so glad I forgot about this place. Now after my next visit on a Saturday night I can come home and watch End Game. If you haven't Roaming Bison then you need to. You will not be disappointed. Reviewing more items will be a challenge. First time trying out this great restaurant with my Forever Girl last nite (05/24/2024) and we both agreed that it was a delightful adventure! Keeping up with the theme of the tavern as being a Kentucky Bourbon & Bar B Que place, I decided to switch from my usual wine beverage and try a distilled spirit seeing how they had over 100 brands to choose from, so, I called upon the expertise of the owner/operator Greg Herzog to give us a 411 on what's the best choice for our beverage. They have this Bourbon Row tradition called "Flights" which Greg sets up 3 glasses on a rustic wooden plaque and launches us on an educational tour on how to properly sample the spirits (Whiskey, Bourbon, & Rye) to help us make an informed choice on what to get. What fun!! I personally liked Greg's special Blend as the best for my tastes, man, never enjoyed bourbon that was sophisticated and silky like that before!!! The food menu listing was 'food porn' for the mind as we ventured to decide what to get as our mouth's watered! We decided to share the Pitmaster Platter with it's assemblage of tasty meats and sides which also served as a kind of 'sample plate' for future choices (Three smoked wings, two ribs wet or dry, three slices of brisket, two sausage links, and our choice of four sides!!!) My only regret was that I forgot the name of our wonderful waitress who was so helpful, attentive and knowledgeable which added to our enjoyable evening!! The ambience, at a booth, where we sat, was pleasantly peaceful and unpretentious, except for the wall lamp near our table, that was a tad bright which Greg graciously turned off for our comfort! I believe this place has been open a little over six years now, there have been quite a few changes over the years. When they first opened they had a limited but delicious and simple smoked bbq menu. The Hollywood Slaw was unlike anything I'd ever had before same with the blueberry chicken wings! Since then I've gone in a few times for some appetizers and beverages, not an actual sit down meal. On January 23rd my cousin and I went in to eat and I was pleasantly surprised by the upgrades they made cosmetically on the inside. We ordered the Kentucky Bourbon Fries with pulled pork on top first. They were ok, the fries were a bit soggy and the pulled pork a bit dry, the jalapeño cheese sauce was good. I ordered the Farm Burger and Hollywood Slaw. The burger was lackluster...there was nothing memorable about it except for the soggy onion ring. The coleslaw was the most disappointing..instead of the delicious Hollywood Slaw I was craving I got a small paper bowl of store bought coleslaw. Overall the atmosphere is nice and the staff is attentive and happy to be there but the food just wasn't what it used to be. Maybe it was an off day but I was disappointed. I had a great Friday night, belated birthday dinner with friends here! Service: We were greeted right away and directed to sit anywhere. The place was fairly empty. As soon as we sat Autumn, our waitress, introduced herself and gave us menus. We told her it was our first time visiting and she took the time to explain the menu and popular items. She recommended the wings and after the description she gave, we ordered them. The dining room got much busier after we ordered, but Autumn remained attentive and friendly- great service all night. Food: All I wanted was a good burger and fries and this place definitely delivered. There so many delicious-sounding options it made for a tough decision, but I stuck with my original intent. The burger was huge, juicy and on a pretzel bun, which was unique. The fries were crispy and flavorful. But the wings...Some of the best in Buffalo. I think the waitress said they were smoked and then fried and then chargrilled (I could be wrong). Either way, they were amazing. The skin was super crispy while the meat was tender. The blackberry glaze and homemade blue cheese upped the amazing even more. My friend ordered the fish fry with blackened fish. It was spicy and very good. She also got the cornbread. I don't eat cornbread myself, but she liked it and it came in a pancake form with jalapeños in it. She also got the cgreens which were a little too on the sweet side for me, but still tasty. Brisket was out of this world and fell apart with the slightest of pull, ribs were perfectly smoked, and the pulled pork is probably the best you'll find in Buffalo. Every time I come to RBT, I might not always eat a lot but if you order one thing, order Greg's championship winning Blueberry Bourbon BBQ smoked wings! We sat in the bar area. It's a smaller area but they also have a huge back dining room. The menu looked great. We started with the Mac Acini (giant fried Mac n cheese balls) these were amaZing! I had an order of the hot wings. I have this weird deal with myself to try wings everywhere I can. The wings were decent, average. I think when you order wings hot they should be a little saucy so that would be my only suggestion. Still good wings though. Others at the table really enjoyed their wraps and reubens. OK so I have a love-hate relationship with this place as of my first encounter there . I saw a Facebook post about the redneck sundae-- it is described as meat of choosing, pork & beans, slaw, topped w a hush puppy "cherry" and this sounded so wonderful to me LOL so much that I put it on my list of places to go and did not forget about it even though it took me like a year plus to get there! now once I actually arrived I realized it's kind of off the beaten track of Heryel Ave, it's not where you picture you know heavy traffic social life on hertel, location wise so a plus for them, as we easily found parking on a side street on a Saturday night around dinner hour . A door was wide open from the side street that we entered, leading us to an empty dining room so we headed to the front and found what could presumably be their locals hanging out at the bar in the front . Seemingly a friendly crowd so that was nice as well as the bartenders, who would end up being our servers as well! They offered us to sit wherever we wanted including the high top tables around the bar or back in the empty dining room area which we chose. It was festively decorated for Halloween, had Halloween music playing and they also garnished our table with delicious Halloween candy, no need for trick-or-treating here, you get it for free! The bartender/server was extremely friendly we won't forget her she was wonderful, had a great smile and told us everything we needed to know about the menu . But so here lied one of my conundrums. It felt like as I reminisced about the experience as if everything I had intended to order--as yes I had looked at the menu and cocktail menu beforehand--I was advised against LOL. However did the server lead me astray? No! Lol I was pleased with all her recommendations! However was I disappointed that one of her recommendations was not to order my dream come true of a southern meal in a mason jar via the redneck Sundae that had initially Drew me here? Yes, yes that was a little disappointing, she basically was like why would you order it in a mason jar when you can get it on a platter served much better and I was like well that makes a lot of sense LOL it's just that well LOL why is it on the menu?! I guess that's the question at the end of the day?'! So I took her advice and got a full platter of my chosen meat and my chosen two sides which included the hush puppy that I had wanted from the red neck sundae and it was really good! Haha So this is what I CAN say, let's say you want to go to a bar and you're really hungry also and barbecue sounds good to you, well then this is your place! When you're all about drinking and you don't necessarily care about the food, you will be pleasantly surprised by their food and be happy that there's this great restaurant attached to this bar, while still giving you that kind of dive bar flare . That's cool as for drinks which are my favorite thing to order when I'm going out, I was definitely pleased with my rye tai, but my friend ordered the southern belle, which we both felt deserved a little more booze then it got, it felt more like a iced tea than anything else, and while happy hour was reportedly going on from 4 to 7 this Sat nt, when I ordered a gimlet that seemed a bit confusing to the server and she suggested an on tap cider instead, disappointed as I was the on tap cider was delicious. Once again it was confusing getting all these low down secrets from the server about what we should order and not order however she continuously did not lead us astray. RBT has been in business for a few years now, yet I did not know of RBT's existence until a couple of months ago! My friends chose to try RBT for a last-minute dinner on a weekday evening. I had heard it was a barbeque-themed restaurant, otherwise I did not really know much else. First off, there's a mix of street parking as well as a very small lot across from the tavern. You can either enter the front door entrance to get directly to the bar, otherwise use the side door entrance to get to the dining room where someone will quickly seat you. I was with a group of 4 guys and we were starving. The owner was serving us that evening and he was extremely kind, funny, knowledgeable, and is very proud of every item he puts on the menu. More about him later... The food was really good. We each split the large platters (intended for 2 people each) - each platter includes multiple food items ranging from ribs to brisket to wings, along with a couple of sides. His wings were quite good and he makes his own amazing sauces. The food was served hot and I was very pleased. I will admit that I regret not ordering myself a regular meal since that probably would have been more filling compared to half a platter - another reason for me to return ASAP! Let's now chat about the owner. He is takes a tremendous amount of pride in his craft and cares about satisfying his customers. He enjoys serving up delicious barbeque, however he is even more excited about his bar up front. He is a bourbon expert and is distilling his own bourbon at home. He only sells top quality bourbons rather than the cheaper ones that are artificially "aged" with chemicals, such as Jack Daniels. I won't bore you with the details, however if you are in the mood to grab a happy hour drink or want a delicious bourbon to compliment your meal, you must visit RBT. I am glad RBT has remained in business since before COVID and I'm even more glad that its owner is a class act who loves his work. Let me start off by saying we waited an unusually long time for our food due to a large party arriving shortly before us and I'm STILL giving this place 5 stars! The food was outstanding. Some of the best bbq I've had in awhile. I ordered the ribs dry with bbq sauce on the side but next time I'd get them wet. This place has the best bbq sauce hands down. Tried both the bourbon and house - both were amazing. And the sides?! Fantastic! Best mac n cheese in the city and this is coming from a girl who knows, ok?! And my husbands cornbread was like a huge jalapeno pancake which was delicious. Service was perfect. They were so apologetic of the wait and offered us some free drinks that we declined. This place has become a fast favorite of mine since the addition of their smoker. Finally, a place close to home to get my BBQ fix. I love the brisket here so much I'd like to write a poem about it. But I'm a comic, not a poet, and there is no joke here. The brisket is so tender it breaks apart easily with the light pull of a fork. The brisket burger is an incredible choice as well. I highly recommend the side of beans, infused with smokey, delicious flavor. Another great side is the corn bread which is done like a pancake. I have enjoyed the pulled pork sandwich here as well which I ordered as a grilled wrap, not sure if that's still an option. The owners and staff are super friendly and I've always experienced great service. The bar is supposed to be good for Bourbon and Whiskey; neither are my thing so I can't comment much on that, but fyi. read more
