This is such a wonderful restaurant. I enjoyed having lunch here., I used to go to the old restaurant that they had in downtown Federal Way. This is the first time that I went to this location and it was absolutely wonderful. I had a wonderful waitress named Sara, she was attentive and on top of everything she made sure that we had special sauces that our drinks refilled and that she always kept a smile on her face. She was so pleasant. The owner was there and the food was wonderful. I absolutely love this restaurant. I think that it is one of the ways best. You should try it you'll love it. I'm a mixed yes and no for Billy McHale's these days. A long time ago, they were a located right on 320th in Federal Way with a more traditional restaurant and we liked to visit there frequently. Once they moved into their new location. I believe it used to be a billiards bar called PJ Pockets. The place is just one big bar now. They do have restaurant seating, and they are family friendly but the warm and inviting atmosphere of the old restaurant is gone. Now it's a cold and vast looking bar space with hard wood and metal furnishings that don't make for a comfortable experience. The staff is friendly, but they always seem understaffed which means that your wait person is usually spread way too thin and cannot keep up with the amount of people well enough to provide the attention that they should. My wife and I visited last night 8.19.26 after 9pm and after we were sat and had made our decisions for food, the waitress informed us that they do not serve half of their menu after 9pm. Well, guess what we had decided to order. You guessed it. The items that they do not make after 9. If she had of just told us this information when she sat us at our table, it would've saved us a lot of time and we probably would've chosen to go someplace else. Water under the bridge. The food we did order came out quickly and was good overall. My wife did order extra pickles and then her order came out with no pickles at all. The waitress fixed that in a jiffy so no harm. I recommend the onion ring loaf. It was one of the best appetizers I've ever had. The bar is clean, the food is good and the staff is friendly and those are great attributes to any establishment, but Federal Way has a reputation for being one of those, "not so good parts of town" if you get my drift and the ambience in the bar reflects that a bit with the clientele and the music that is played. They have a "party room" that you can reserve for free, and my wife has in the past but be aware that even if you reserve it, they will tell you when you arrive that if the place gets busy, they will still seat other guests in the room with you and your party or event. I suppose the short of it is; I would definitely go back for the food, but I'd try to go for lunch, not dinner and it's not the kind of place that I would make my go-to watering hole. We went here for a Seahawks/49ers divisional game watch party, and we were a little nervous because we have two kiddos (with my 8yo being a 49ers fan) and they warned that they thought they were gonna be busy. We showed up ~40min before game time and that was plenty early to get a seat in front of a television. Our server was incredibly kind and patient, and we got our food quickly. Since we were there for a watch party, obviously we slow rolled eating, but our server never stopped coming to our table to ensure we had everything we needed. Overall, it was a great atmosphere to watch a Hawks game in! I also want to give a huge shoutout to the 49ers fans who were so kind to my little 8yo. He's a contrarian who picked the Niners to be his team because mom and her family have been lifelong fans of the Hawks. With both teams being division rivals, we were nervous about the tension between the fans but everybody was so welcoming (to both his Hawks mom and Niners kiddo), and we'll definitely be back. The restaurant is clean and well-maintained, and the service was good throughout our visit. We both ordered burgers and they did not disappoint. I was drawn to Billy's due to a photo they have displayed on the front page of their google business profile (Refer to screenshot here on my post). Although the food did come out relatively fast, the mozzarella sticks looked nothing like the picture they use for advertisement. The real ones were subpar at best. Good but nothing special. Also, for $13.99 and a smaller size than what I was expecting, I think they could've given a bigger portion. I felt catfished and left a bit disappointed. Besides the food, our bartender Amy was very sweet and kind! And my overall experience here at this bar was decent. I really enjoyed the set up and the whole atmosphere of the space. If you're looking for American food, Billy McHales is, in my opinion, Probably one of the best in Federal Way. The ribs were so tender, they practically fall off the bone. The service has always been great and our server, Micheal, was very tentative. Always keep our waters full and I was never without. Greasy food with mid service. Great ambiance for late night drinks with friends and coworkers. My bf and I had our eye on this place for about a year. So when we finally got the chance to try it we were excited. Sadly, we found out the food is far from worth it. I ordered the bowl of clam chowder (I wouldn't say it's award winning), ordered prime rib dip and paid an extra $1.99 to make it a Plus Dip (totally not worth it. The same crispy onions from the loaf are used on the sandwich..). The prime rib meat was dry and tough. The crispy Onion Ring Loaf caught our eye because it said thinly sliced onions. Huge disappointment when it came to the table. Whoever is in charge of prep, those onions are not thinly sliced. They are thickly cut, not all onions are covered in batter and when sliced open it's grease that oozes out. Couldn't and didn't want to have a tummy full of greasy thick cut onions that weren't battered or crispy. We tried to bring this up with our waitress, Jordan, yet it seemed to have gone over her head and ignored every little request or comment we had. We even asked her how the onion loaf was made but the way she described it made it sound revolting. I have been going here since like the 80's, the building used to have real charm and lots of cool things like a train that ran around the top of the restaurant, and stuffed bears. I hadn't eaten here since the 90's because when the old location closed, I had no idea they had moved... I thought they just closed... So when they popped up on my grub hub, I literally dropped everything to go have dinner. Their new location feels like it doesn't know what it is, it's kinda a sports bar, kinda a BBQ restaurant... I dunno it feels like it really lost that charm it used to have. They still have the train but it's just a little one, and the big stuffed bears are gone. On the other hand the food is still just as great. Their BBQ sauce is very unique and tastes the exact same as I remember. The onion loaf took me back. Their price on their ribs has become astronomical so I went with burgers they were really good tho. And service was impeccable, the waitress was very attentive and kept our drinks full and checked on us often. We came for lunch one day because we'd never been there. They had decent crowd for a midweek lunch time. We were offered a seat in the bar for happy hour, who knew it started at 1:00. I like the atmosphere of this place. I never noticed it before, it's so tucked away in the plaza off of Pac Highway. A friend suggested it as a place they used to frequent years ago. It was clean, fairly quiet, had lots of screens all over the place if you're into that but I found it a little distracting, and the servers were friendly. The food is average and a bit bland. My friend said her nachos were flavorless and I could barely bite the huge mozzarella log lol. It was fried super hard so it was not enjoyable I just had them boxed up for my kids to try. They had Jell-O shots in 4colors (not flavors) we each tried one, but they were flavorless. They did come in cute syringe things and were only $1 so cute for Instagram or playful pics.
