I have been here several times. It's on my regular rotation. The staff is super. Always fun. Nice and clean place. Karaoke nights and live bands sometimes. (If you're into that.) Only saw karaoke once, but it was pretty good. The location is weird, but only adds to the charm. Makes you think you've discovered a local secret.. oh wait.. YOU HAVE! We came in on a Sunday afternoon. It was quiet and seat yourself, but the staff were friendly. There was a self-serve water station with some lemon cucumber water. The bartender offered me ice, but I don't actually like ice in my water, so I prefer this. I also really like being able to choose my own table--I know this would be impossible at a busy restaurant, but this was so dead we could, so go here Sunday at about 3! All the tables are very pretty and looked comfortable. I prefer the comfort and privacy of booths (which they have a few), but the friend with whom I was dining needs tall chairs, so we opted for that. The cocktails were AMAZING, and the hummus plate was more than enough for lunch. So delicious. It came with warmed triangles even though the menu didn't mention them! Yum, yum, yum!!! We will be back FOR SURE. We paid with a gift certificate and only remembered DAYS LATER that we forgot to leave a tip!!!!! So, we have to at least go back for that‍‍‍‍‍usually places remind me!!! Such a cool spot! My husband and I have wanted to go here for some time now after driving past it a few times, and we finally incorporated it into one of our recent date nights. We went around 8pm on a Friday because we wanted to grab a bite, a couple drinks, and check out their karaoke scene. We don't sing often (he NEVER sings, I do on occasion) but we love to watch others! Their setup here is pretty solid with a stage and lighting systems and everything! Plus a super large screen for everybody else to be able to read and sing along. Service here was awesome. Both staff members we encountered were super nice and we got all of our stuff quickly when ordered. They have a super solid lineup of drinks on tap and even some decent wines. My husband and I have learned that it's better for us to order one entree and one app, and we just split everything and we always end up decently full and don't waste much! We got an order of their mozzarella sticks and the Sandbar Burger (their take on a smash burger). Everything was delicious! The Sandbar has the best karaoke in Tacoma. The stage, effects, and host are all top notch. I love taking my theatre gang here after shows at Centerstage. The food's ok, but the service is pretty great. We enjoy the banter they provide. I always thought this was going to be a divey trucker bar, but it walks a nice line. The aquatic decor gives it personality, and the strange layout allows you to feel fairly secluded even as you're sitting amongst a crowd. read more

I don't go over towards the tide flats, the Port of Tacoma or Brown's Point too often along Marine Drive I believe. I just don't have a whole lot of reasons to go over that way. But on my last jaunt over there which was recently I spotted The SandBar & Grill and looked into Yelp and saw that it had a decent score on their review average and decided to go there on the way back from Brown's Point. Probably what really sold me was their pizza selection. They had a pickle pizza which is not very easy to find but they are surprisingly good. The SandBar's version is very good and we ate it all. The waitress when we asked for it wasn't sure if they were doing pizza that day but thankfully they did. We had mocktails that they had on their drink menu which were good also! The location is pretty cool and we had no complaints. We will definitely be back for the pizza ! read more

Our friend Mel recently started working at the sandbar and recommended that we visit. The decor is very well done, and both the restaurant and bar are spotlessly clean. I like that. Prices are a bit high, but the food is high-quality and the drinks are well-made I understand that the sandbar also offers entertainment and the bar side is very popular for watching the Seahawks, the Mariners, and the Kraaken. First timers, sat at the bar, bartender was super friendly and accommodating! We came in around 11 on Sunday. We got crab cakes, prime rib dip, and a burger. Crab cakes were crispy on the outside and flakey with crab on the inside. Whatever the dipping sauce that came with it is, was chefs kiss delicious. Prime rib dip was juicy and the horseradish Mayo was a perfect compliment. Hubs dug in on his cheese burger. It was also perfectly cooked. Taps for draft are pretty cool looking and barstools were comfy. Bar is big and we love that we can bring kids in too. I dropped in today to try the place out. I walked in and there was no one at the bar! And no server in sight. There were a few people sitting at a table chatting it up, but I never saw a server or bartender in more than five minutes. I give the place two stars, because the restroom was clean. read more

Their fish and chips are delicious (although some salt on the fish before the batter might be an improvement), the pepperoni pizza was great, they have a good selection of beers and wines as well as cocktails. So I went here for the first time on a band night. And I will say that the atmosphere is stellar. The bar was full and we had a large group. They were happy to set us in the dining room side. No loss there. First and foremost. Parking that night was nonexistent. I hat to double parked behind the coffee stand because the other car was facing the other way. The food was tasty. Drinks were quick and cocktails were good. It was hot it was timely and the portions were very satisfying. I don't think anyone left hungry or disappointed with the quality of our meal. The service was good but because the bar was popping I feel we were forgotten. The guy who brought out the food in the first round was gruff like "this isn't my table or my job but I'm here." Grace on the other hand was an absolute gem. Our only real complaint of the night was sauce. After the grumpy guy left we were all half done with our meal before anyone came to check on us. There was no sauce. No catchup or ranch was brought with any of the meals. And they all had fries. I was done with my sandwich before anything ever arrived. I get that it was a busy night but why wasn't any of this on the table? Will I return. Probably. My Rubin sandwich was fantastic. And my wife said the BLT was one of the best she's ever had. Wow, this was such a pleasant surprise. Inside is a bar to the right and a restaurant to the left. The theme is so innovative and nautical. The server was excellent, friendly and had a Halloween theme dress and makeup. This is a great place for burgers. I'll be coming back for breakfasts, too. Owned and operated by the same folks who own the Brown's Point Diner, they bought and opened The Sandbar & Grill while renovations were taking place at the Brown's Point Diner. I'm super happy to see that the Olde Shipwreck tavern has been restored and is being used as the Sandbar now. They've really given the place a facelift and has a huge bar and an even bigger restaurant. All of the great food from Brown's point is on their menu still and we've never been disappointed with any of it. Having this location makes it more convenient for many people to visit and enjoy and I hope that it brings in many new regular customers and big profits for this small mom and pop that has been taking care of folks very well for many years in Brown's Point! This was my second time at the sandbar but the first time grabbing food, I had been going to the Browns Point Diner since I was a kid so I was excited to see this new addition to the neighborhood. The servers were nice and watching people do karaoke was fun but it was a bit loud and I was shouting over the table just to talk to my partner. My server recommended I try the salmon fillet sandwich which I was eager to try, it was refreshing and tasty until about two hours after I got home, I had food poisoning. This was disappointing and not great waking up to run to the bathroom to have my whole dinner come back up. I'm not sure if I'll be back or not for the food. read more

Went here first time. Had a good experience on a Friday night. It was a random date night and me and my wife was our first a few drinks and live close by. We ordered a few shareables, crab cake which was delicious. We was getting ready to leave and realize we did not get our fries we ordered and also as we was leaving we didn't know it was karaoke night, so we was like hey let's stay and check it out, the waiter brought us our fries and didn't charge us because they screwed up and forgot. I can see it happens cus it was a bit busy around dinner time. So we hung out made some new friends and enjoyed the karaoke. It ended up being really fun. We went last night for a birthday dinner because my family loves the food there. The place was really empty so I expected the food and service to be great. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable and pleasant, but service seemed kinda slow for an empty restaurant. The food was hit and miss, and the prices are high for what you get. Pretzel with cheese sauce was good but they heated it in the microwave so the texture was a bit off. The Dirty Fries were good except that the fries were under cooked. The Short Rib burger and happy hour burger were very good. The French Dip was very good except that the meat tasted kinda old. The $9 house special salad was terrible. I don't know how you can make a cranberry, walnut and blue cheese salad flavorless, but it was. The only flavor was the bottled dressing and that wasn't good. And finally the pizza. Keep in mind that this place was nearly empty. We waited and waited for the pizza. All our other food was on the table and nearly eaten by the time the server realized the pizza was never fired. She apologized and brought us a complimentary basket of pale, limp undercooked fries to make up for it. When the pizza finally arrived it was just okay; a few slices of pepperoni, too much cheese and bland sauce. I will not order it again. Drinks were fine. Dessert is limited and good enough but not great. All the problems point to poor management and lack of communication between the staff.
