My nephew and I stopped in on Saturday. Ordered the ribs for two. Best ribs I ever had.

I always enjoy my meals here. Food is fairly priced and always tasty and their cocktail prices are very reasonable. During my most recent visit here I got a burger with fries and a Margarita. The burger was a large half pounder that was well made, very juicy with fresh veggie toppings. Fries were quite good as well with a nice crunchy texture. Relative to my Margarita on the rocks it was quite large in its own right, guessing 12 to 16 oz's and very tasty. Supposedly 2 oz's of Blanco were in the drink but was hard to tell based on all the other components and size of the drink which diluted the liquor. At $9 it is a great deal where my friend had an Old Fashioned for $10 which he was quite happy with as well. We went to Billy's to attend a fundraiser. The blonde bartender was rude to nearly all of our group at different times (buying drinks when we were waiting for our table to be ready). Someone asked if they could get breadsticks and she rudely said, "are you just here for the free breadsticks?" Then they tried to check out (our table was ready) and she says, "You are going to have to pay your bill to check out". Ummm... yes that is what we are asking to do. It was really busy, but the attitude was uncalled for. I would have given 4 stars should we have a better experience at the bar. On the other hand, our server at the table, and especially the hostess were a breath of fresh air. So many people waiting and she still was trying to smile and greet us the best she could. The food was decent, good breadsticks, great French Onion Soup, loved that Traverse City Spinach dip! We got some salads, and Chicken Pot Pie had a good flavor. Great place for live music especially when Dave Bennett is in town. There is a cover (price varies) which is added to your tab if you are there for drinks and dinner. Makes it easy if you forget cash. The center tables are reservation only with a minimum of 6 individuals. Booths are first come, first serve. We were lucky to get the last booth! Our server was Julie. She was so kind and attentive. For dinner, we ordered fish and chips (all you can eat on Fridays), Rueben and chips, and a beef pastie. We tried a few of the signature drinks too! After dinner, we were able to stay at the same booth and enjoy Dave Bennett. What a fun night! read more

Well I was on my way home from up north and felt like a cold beer and some wings. Stopped in at Billie's and Jenna took really good care of me. Cold blue moon, hot rolls and a couple of chicken wings. By the way Billie's has the best wings in south west Detroit. If you come here you need to get them. The BBQ pork sandwich was very good! Maybe one of the best I've ever had. The blue cheese Cole slaw sounded fantastic but it had no blue cheese flavor at all. Tasted pretty much like standard Cole slaw. This restaurant feels like more of a bar than a restaurant. We went to a memorial for a dear friends Mom who recently passed, and for a remembrance lunch afterwards they chose Billie's for us to gather. We haven't been here in at least 7 years. We used to frequent Billie's as my Fiancé was nannying for a Family in Heartland, and we would always go on open mic night because the bands/performers were awesome. We also loved the ambiance, the staff and the food, although we were sad to see 2 of our favorites omitted from the menu since the last time we there, chicken picatta and Captain crunch chicken. Bring 'em back Billie's!! The luncheon was buffet style, which consisted of a nice salad, warm bread that is decadent, ribs, fried chicken and their famous mostaccioli. I thought everything was fantastic, first time trying the ribs and they were fall off the bone ridiculous, but both the bbq sauce on the ribs and the sauce for the mostaccioli were both a tad too spicy for my Fiancé. We also both had an old fashion, very generous pours of Bulleit and muddled orange and cherry, excellent sippers. They are are a little far from where we are located, but just the ambiance and quality of food will bring us back more frequently now. And the staff working our large group was superb and did an awesome job making sure we were all taken great care of! After many years as one of our favorite places, we experienced our first VERY disappointing experience. There was a "new" menu with of course higher prices; but what was really puzzling was the fact that we noted at least 5 waitresses upon entering--together talking--but with the slowest service we've ever experienced. (We regularly have come in for lunch with 1 waitress--and have minimal wait time) What was most disappointing was our beloved "Fish and Chips" didnt even come with chips as we had to chose a salad instead--and then were shocked at the "upgrade charge" for a house salad!! When I reviewed our bill at the time we were leaving I questioned the "upgrade" charge on a small house salad--but I just wasn't in the mood to discuss this with our waitress. Billy's use to be a great place to go. The service and food were good and affordable prices especially for families. Like alot of restaurants they click on the cheap button, cut back on wholesome ingredients and service. A friend wanted to try it, while trying to suggest something better, we gave it a try. Again the drinks are made poorly and their food continues to get worse and our server was rude. It's too bad, have given this place to many chances and always leave disappointed will not spend another dime there and my blog will be fair but truthful. read more

Wow. Impressive! My wife took me here because I wanted something different. A BBQ place? Sure. Why not. Not many good BBQ places in MI. OMG was I surprise! The owner has got something here! Ribs! Fall off the bones ribs! The ribs here beat "Slows" in Detroit and destroys "famous Dave's". I know my ribs! Trust me. They even have unlimited ribs night! The service was incredibly fast! The ribs were bad. The tough cartilage got in the way on all of them. I prefer fall off the bone ribs, but open to any with good sauce, which it is; and quality meaty ribs, which these were not. The ribs were already cut and I didn't mind, I thought that was a bonus. I realized I would have had a hard time cutting them myself. The decor is cool and heavily themed with a tiny cute outdoor area in front. I will probably give them another try. We visited Billy's on Friday night recently and arrived with plenty of time to eat before the band went on at 8pm. My girlfriend ordered the platter and I ordered the half slab of ribs. Service was very good and the food was excellent. The decor is dated and could stand some attention, but over all, Billy's is a great place to enjoy an evening. After we ate we enjoyed a second drink. The band (Piss Ant) was in the building but not really moving toward the stage. I was anxious to hear them as I've played there a couple of times myself. At about 8:20pm the guitar player came in and carried equipment to the stage. I figured they would be on in a few minutes and we decided to wait a while longer. Unfortunately, nothing happened - nothing. In fact the band members appeared to be caught up at the board talking. It became clear that the customers would have to wait and God only knew how long! At 8:40 we decided to go elsewhere for our entertainment. The bottom line...the food and service was very good, but forget the music entertainment. Not worth the wait! read more

Really bummed about this. We walked in with high hopes as the "up north bar" is totally our vibe. The atmospheric was fine in that regard, but still felt a little off. We started with the spinach artichoke dip and it was really mediocre. I got the broiled cod which was dry and unpleasant, and my husband, who had yet to meet a burger he didn't like, met that fate this evening and didn't even eat half of it. I understand that eating out is expensive, but $100 for two entrees, an app, and three drinks was really shocking. I'd been wanting to try Billy's Tip 'n Inn for a long time but never did before now. Well, yesterday was the day. I went around 1:15 on a Monday, so it wasn't very busy. I was surprised at how big the place was. And they had all of the chairs at the tables decorated with Christmas chair covers. It seemed rather cheery. The menu had quite diverse offerings. I decided on the cabin salad. I waited for about 10 minutes and the server brought a basket of hot breadsticks with whipped butter -- LOTS of them! -- so it was worth the wait. It took about another 10 minutes for my salad to arrive. It was HUGE -- like a mountain of salad. It was delicious, with the grilled chicken, ham, and, for an unusual touch, roasted potatoes, along with other greens and feta cheese. Even after I'd eaten all I could, it looked like I didn't even put a dent in it! I'm sure I'll be back for this salad -- and maybe, I'll even try other things. read more

This place is always hoppin' with great live music!! The menu has a good selection of items. I tried the Captain Crunch chicken today and it really was delicious!! My son ordered the chicken noodle soup and was disappointed to find huge chucks of dark meat chicken and very few noodles. Just not what he was expecting for chicken noodle soup. Went on a Friday evening around 6, parking lot was packed but surprisingly we were quickly seated. We both ordered the 3 piece fish and chips and I had a bowl of French Onion soup. Took a little bit for our waitress to appear for our drink order. Ordered meal at same time. The food delivery to table was slow but understandable considering crowded restaurant. Fridays is all you can eat fish! My soup was very tasty not too salty as can be the case at other establishments. Only downside was too much cheese. Literally more cheese than soup. When our fish and chips arrived they were hot and portion was large. In fact so large we didn't order anymore fish even though it was all you can eat. The restaurant is decorated in lots of fun antiques. A bit noisy which made it difficult to hear my dining companion. We had completed our meal and were waiting and waiting for our bill. We hired this restaurant to cater my sons wedding reception. The food was absolutely delicious. The catering manager was excellent, I had no idea how much food I needed and he helped me. I can't even tell you how happy I am to be updating this review. Billy's did great food for my MILs retirement party and we had a terrible experience when we stopped in not long after. HOWEVER. ALL THAT HAS CHANGED. We were feeling adventurous and decided to give them another try. We walked in and were seated right away although they were busy and had a full parking lot. Our server made a good recommendation regarding the caesar salad and and we tried the fish and chips and the 59'er with pulled pork. This was a much better experience this time! The fish was crispy and seasoned and same for the fries. The 59'er had a really nice blue cheese coleslaw which went well with juicy and tender pulled pork. Our server was really nice, attentive without being annoying. So glad we gave this place another try! read more

Billy's has a simple Up-North vibe with good, reliable food and a friendly crowd. I have tried the fish and chips (all you can eat on Friday), burger and Maurice salad, all were great. The website is updated with live musical offerings on Fridays and Saturdays and live mike nights on Tuesdays. I have enjoyed 70's classics, Michigan Funk that my friends called " Blues? " and other, primarily Rock and Roll and country with original songs. Every time I have gone to Billy's the dance floor was hopping with adults of all ages. It's been hit or Miss here . I've been there with my daughters and the service and food was great . But I've been here with my husband and brought out of town friends and had it was disappointing. Waitresses were very unfriendly to us. We understand They were busy with a night of bands but we came to support them! We arrived at 9:05 and if we'd gotten there at 859 we wouldn't have had to pay the cover charge - We weren't aware of cover charge. The waitress at door was not welcoming- no smiles - looked pissed that we arrived - would NOT budge on letting us not have to pay and there were only 3 of us. We proceeded to wait for about 10 minutes before seating ourselves . Then waited for drinks so we grabbed a waitress. We ordered about 130.00 worth food and drinks . The portions seemed small and some were overcooked therefore it felt overpriced. We paid our bill and moved closer to the dance floor . We had service but our waitress just seemed angry every time she came to our table. We understand things get busy - but as SOON as the band ended - she came over to our table while we were enjoying our drinks, having a good time laughing and chatting - waitress comes over and literally says " finish your drinks you gotta get out of here" And walked away. It was almost 11pm on a weekend night. Just embarrassing- we brought our guests here - telling them how good it was - and fun. It wasn't the best experience., We've been there 4 xs in the past 6 months - 2 have been good experiences and 2 have not . Read the review from 12 days ago where the reviewer said they would "never go back" due to the server Caitlin. Well, right after reading that review we went there for dinner, and I was surprised and apprehensive when Caitlin introduced herself as our waitress! Cut to the chase.... She did an excellent job and we couldn't have asked for a more attentive individual. The previous reviewer must have caught her at an "off" moment, or there was more to the story.
