This place has been here since the beginning of time, and it seems that much of the clientle has aged with it :) All the same, they serve good quality Continental/American fare and have a respectable bar. Billy's is once again opened under new ownership. The inside has been revamped with new floors and thorough cleaning. However it still maintains its old tavern feel. The prices are a bit more expensive than most restaurants in the area but the high quality of the food made it worth the extra price. My wife ordered the grouper a la Billy. The filet was huge and very fresh. My mother-in-law ordered the filet mignon au poivere. The filet was cooked perfectly and was incredibly tender. I ordered the fish in chips. Very nice haddock filet with hand cut fries. All in all a very nice experience. Much better than our last visit to Billy's a few years ago. We told ourselves that it wasn't the same after that visit. It's nice to see the new owners have returned to the traditional values that made Billy's so special in the past. read more

We come here from Monterey, California each year to visit family. I am pretty picky and it takes a lot to impress me so I have to say - I was pleasantly surprised with our experience at Billy's Tap Room. The service was outstanding, the food was delicious and the prices were excellent. I had the lamb shanks and my boyfriend had the prime rib. Went back and so disappointed! Could not eat the crust of the prime rib as there was so much salt it was burning the back of my throat. We were having a great time and our waiter spent more time snarling then smiling. Yes I ate my meal but didn't eat the crust of the prime rib and when I told him and others at the table confirmed it he said ok and took my plate and walked away. No I am sorry let me get you a dessert to make up for it NOTHING! Never coming back and this used to be my go to for prime rib. Stopped in just for a beer and was happy to find they had Yuengling on tap! (Something we don't have in Oklahoma). Decided to have some clam chowder -- yum!! Going by the name, we expected to enjoy a nice meal. What we got was exceptional. There were 4 of us dining together. We visited this restaurant a few years ago and it was the highlight of our trip to Ormond Beach. So we returned to Billy's on this trip. Everyone is so friendly and welcoming. What great customer service!! Every restaurant should model this place. The food here is excellent in every way. If you like grouper it is prepared any way you might like it, a hearty serving, with salad, vegetable, and potato included. Don't miss the clam chowder it is better than most!! And we split the prime rib steak one evening because it's such a large portion. Planning to go back again and hope we have room for the bread pudding which is awesome. Very disappointed...a once upon a time favorite restaurant but will not return. We had the prime rib and we ordered it medium rare and it was delivered well done! The prime rib was so overlooked it had no juice at all on the plate with no flavor at all. We could not eat the prime rib. On top of that my bake potato had a bad spot in the center and had to be returned. How can a kitchen split a bake potato with a terrible rotten place in the center and still send it to the table? Have been going to Billy's while vacationing in Daytona since 2003. Always had great meals. The place is old (1922 vintage), but in great repair and very clean. Waitresses always check back often and the meals and drinks are very good. Notice very little turnover of waitress staff over the years, so they must be good and enjoy working there. We've eaten at Billy's numerous times over the last year... one meal has been better than the next! Dinner starts with a homemade Focaccia and generous serving of fresh whipped butter. The house dressing elevates the uninspired salad. The lump Crab cakes are our favorite entree with no filler and a light crumb coating. Beef stroganoff is also out of this world! Veggies are simple but fresh, complimenting but not competing with the entree. Perfect! Spuds & rice are uninspired. Oysters on the half shell always fresh and plump. YUM! Our only disappointment has been the crème brûlée. Tiny portion served with a dollop of cool whip. (why why why cool whip?? The fantastic whipped butter served with the focaccia was such a nice touch... The absence of garnish would be better than fake whipped cream!) The caramel was truely burned, not browned and the custard was over baked. Dining room is really chilly! Wear sleeves! read more

Entree costs tab high. Service by staff good. Two ordered prime rib that came full of fat. Threw away one third. Both diners found it stringy and not the value of prime rib for that price. Potatoes overcooked and sauteed veggies table spoon serving size. Come on folks, julienne cut does not mean tablespoon portions. Red potatoes overcooked and under portioned. Scallops came in the winner. Petite steak rare and I wouldn't write home about it. Overrated about prime rib. Very loud in the dining areas. read more

Consistent, classic, old-school food. I love that I can still get béarnaise sauce on my steak. It's nice to know that some places still care about making things fresh. The bread, soup, dressings, still made from scratch. Gotta love it. The gnocchi is not unfortunately. I wish they would add duck to the regular menu. This was hands-down the best meal I've had in the 16 months I've lived in Florida. The menu is pricy, as others have mentioned, but the service, quality, and atmosphere were all right on target. Four dinners: Filet minion, NY steak, special halibut, and fish and chips. Everyone was delighted with their meals. The presentation was good, not overly pretentious, but elegant. Portions were perfect (no need for take home bag, but not still hungry, either). House wine was good quality and matched the food well. Both steaks were "custom" orders, and both were perfect (one - Pittsburg style, the other with crab and Gorgonzola top). Service was friendly and sincere. Very busy restaurant with a lot of locals I assume . I recommend that you make a reservation before you walk in. They have a guy playing music which is too loud if you want to enjoy your meal and converse with your friends and family. The hostess was not on top of her game as she was totally confused. She was not sure if she had a booth available or not it took her a while to realize that I'm staring at an empty booth. The server Sue was nice and very knowledgeable . Did I mention that the music was loud !!!? So forget about enjoying a peaceful meal or a romantic dinner on a Friday night !I this place is as loud as the ocean deck if not louder as it is way smaller. The service is great and the food is even better. The prime rib and crab cakes are excellent. The food is definitely the best part and I will be back again. Please tone the music down as it causes inconvenience to some of your clients. I would have scored it 5 stars if it wasn't for the loud music. Really dissatisfied will portion size and ridiculous entrée cost. Ordered the grouper and vegetables the grouper was rubber 3oz and literally 3 tiny broccoli pieces. We all thought it was a prank! Food and service were fantastic! Absolutely loved the grouper! My husband could cut his steak with a fork! The new owners have done a wonderful job to upgrade this almost 90 year old building, yet keep the quaint atmosphere that everybody loved. Will absolutely be back. Went to dinner for Valentines Day with my husband,my daughter and her husband. We reserved a late dinner time so the grand-kids could be in bed for the babysitter! The dinner was terrible!!! We love the black forest steak and when we arrived we were informed they were out...I had requested a special meal when making the reservation as one in the party has Crohn's and was told they cook everything from scratch and could accommodate...no such luck... they were actually out of all sides except french fries.... OK so we are thinking of leaving and the manager arrives and states...we are making red potato's as a side dish...it will be 20 minutes...we decide to stay since they are being soooo nice(BIG Mistake)..we order appetizers (which of course drove the bill even higher)...and dinners. The food arrives...all with french fries (oops they say so sorry no other side available!) , all with steamed broccoli...the vegetable side dishes we ordered were also out! I think that is called bait and switch! I could not believe it...when the bill came...FULL PRICE...really...we did not get what we ordered and what we did get was not very well cooked. If they would have been honest we may have left but we would not have been so angry an disappointed at being misled. the bread was delicious and the appetizers were good but pricey however I am sad to say...No more Black Forest Steaks for me...I will not return! read more

I ordered takeout twice from Billys Tap Room My Wife loved the Diver Scallops Which were great both times. If you do order take out you must open all the bags and see exactly what you have, to find the two or three items missing. For $46 I just got 8 scallops (my wife likes) for a very small portion of broccolli (also very good but overdone) about 3 tablespoons of rice almondine (also very good but 3 tablespoons?) I had grill pork chop $30 tiny bit of broccolli and 2 very small red potatoes (very good but why so unbelievably stingy?) I ordered salad with blue cheese dressing which was not included, no bread, shrimp cocktail $20 5 shrimp great sauce. no bread no butter no salad? What planet are they on $97 total, why should i have to ask and check through the order and have to wait another 15 minutes for them to do me a favor?? read more

My husband had hung out at Billy's with the MG car club 60 years ago and wanted to check it out. The menu history does not record it, but it was at that time said to have been originally a stable, and when my husband first went there was surrounded by fences. He remembered ordering burgers, but chose a petite filet this time and found it fork tender and topped with caramelized onions and mushrooms Our son ordered salmon, which came cooked in precisely the offbeat way he had ordered it. I chose shrimp scampi, with an overkill of shrimp cocktail as well, and was pleased with shrimp that were plump, tender, and succulent. The cocktail shrimp were artfully displayed around a footed glass, but it was unexpectedly filled with spring greens, and the two accompanying sauces were so good that I considered hanging on to them to dip those greens! See other reviews for the perfectly fresh salads and warm chef-made bread. We all ordered broccoli, and there was nothing skimpy about the servings. My husband ordered the roasted red potatoes and loved them. We shared 3 ways a slice of whipped cream-topped key lime pie and enjoyed every morsel. Denise was our waitress and was charming, efficient, gracious, and, as I told her, "decorative," as well! There was a musician who played various instruments and sang gentle folk songs, but I'm surprised that no one else has mentioned that there were fresh deep red roses on every table.
