BAD! Bad service, bad food! Was there 2 hours. Prime Rib was chewy, Calamari was tasteless, just bad. Server took so long with drinks that I had to go to the bar to order them myself. Then after 10 minutes I finally went back to the table because the bartender never acknowledged I was even there. The food came out cold. Then when I asked to speak to the manager I was told there not one on duty. REALLY, NO MANAGER ON DUTY? Billy's, a local best since 1922, has been a favorite with us since 1999. With the new owners, we are seeing for great updates to the menu and service. We recently had a reception in the downstairs party room for 32 people. It was just appetizers and drinks, but the staff were very good and kept the room clean and the beverages refreshed. The appetizers were better than most restaurants and showed the kitchen has some skill in display and selection. I came in wanting to love it because my date recommended it and it was her birthday I ordered the Blackened prime rib then found that I must be mistaken for the Cowboy Ribeye $48 and the birthday girl ordered prime rib. After an hour had lapsed from having appetizers and salad we asked to check our order 15 more minutes went by and they tried to explain that the delay on the size of the stake? Waited longer finally they brought it out and her prime rib was cold with no ague horse radish so the manager stepped in and took the prime rib back so I had to get a to go box because I didn't want to eat my 24ounce Steak in front of my birthday date so ended up with 4 frog legs a bowl of soup 2 drinks a salad in a styrofoam box $120 and it started raining which I totally blame them for because we got there at 5:00 and should have been home in a food coma by then. What makes this place great is the history reputation over many years but I had to ask myself every time I went to the bathroom on my epic journey for dinner why they post the newspaper on the wall for you to read while your doing your business? Then it all made sense the headlines changed from the time I ordered my appetizer to when my stake arrived. Spent a whole 10 days in florida visited Miami, Orlando, and Daytona. Ate at numerous restaurants and this is by far the best restaurant I went to on my while trip. I work here and everything is made from scratch and better than the old Billy's. New owners and new dishes with some old menu items but revamped. My favorite is the diver scallops and they were as big as I have ever seen. My husband loves the ribeye and it is by far the most beautiful steak I have ever seen and flavorful as can be The owners are so personable and go to almost every table to thank them. I just visited Billy's for the first time. It will go down as one of the best dinner restaurant experiences I have ever had. I went with my wife, and another couple. We ordered two appetizers - Escargot and Calamari. Both were spectacular! Our dinners included a choice of salad or soup. I tried the cream of mushroom, which was quite delicious. As a main course, I ordered Swordfish Almondine, which was the best I ever had. One of our companions chose to order a crab cake, and since the price of adding a second one was nominal, I told her to order two, and we shared. There was no bread or filler, just pure crab. While it was the slightest bit saltier than I'd prefer, she really loved it, and it was full of chunks of delicious crabmeat. My wife ordered Veal Marsala. I had just a bit, and it was also excellent. My friend Tony had the diver scallops, fried, and could not nearly finish them all, so I tried a couple. They were also quite good. All in all, a delicious dinner, with great ambiance. I especially liked the historic photos throughout the restaurant, and even the bathrooms which were kept with almost original plumbing from the last century. This place is quite a treat. Go for a celebration, or no good reason at all. You won't be disappointed. read more

First restaurant we have been in where not ONE person had a mask on! I don't know what happened to this restaurant! Prime rib was NOT what it used to be. Is it under new owners? I made the mistake of going to the ladies room.... paint chipped everywhere. Filthy - water and toil paper on floor - gas station bathrooms are cleaner. We went to the room way past the kitchen... After years of frequent vacations in this part of the country we finally tried Billy's Tap Room. Both of us are just delighted with this discovery. From the amazingly delicious blue cheese dressing, to the best for focaccia I have ever eaten, to their luscious baked potatoes, to their 20 kinds of tasty grouper and rich chocolate cake....it's all good there. The best steak house in Florida! The Cowboy cooked Pittsburgh rare will melt your socks off! The bartenders, waitstaff and owners are great. Agree with Chads assessment from New Years, I didn't read this prior or wouldn't have gone. Went in last night wearing a mask to the table as I have since pandemic , no staff at all wearing masks etc. We got looked at as if we were aliens. This place is in total denial and I'm definitely not a mask nut. But I do respect there is still a virus and especially a closed in space like Billy's should respect it's customers. We should have walked out immediately but did sit, looked around and noticed no real spacing of tables either. Took another look at the wine list which was a total joke. The management either doesn't like wine or is clueless on what a customer might like with a steak or piece of seafood. Message to owner, hire a wine consultant to update your ridiculous wine menu and maybe you can raise your restaurant profit by 25% or more next year. They no longer have this, and the new bread was just ok. ...almost a game changer for me. Companion and I arrived at 5;30 (made early reservation to make certain we wouldn't have to wait)...she orders martini (it was 2 for 1 night on drinks, but not 1/2 off one), I asked about draft beer...not our server's forte for sure. As soon as the drinks were on the table the server wanted an order....we told her we wanted to "linger" over drinks first. Not to be deterred she was back a couple of times over the next 5/6 minutes. We did order....app. was shrimp cocktail (5large) which was good. Companion has small cut roast beef, I the lemon veal. both reasonably good, nothing special. This place is fairly expensive and one might expect something to justify the cost, but the food was as above and the server would have been better placed at Denny's...not a fine dining server. read more

Horrible service! Food was ok, only reason for the 2 stars! I called in an order as I work on the same block. They tell me first that they can not and will not make me a salad despite having lettuce, tomato, onion, bacon, etc as burger toppings (already prepped mind you) and second that they are TOO BUSY to call or text me that my order (for 4 people in the office) was ready and to simply come in between 25 and 45 mins to pick it up...... UMMM???? it takes less time to call or text someone that their food is ready than it does to walk food to someone's table. If my food were cold when I got there, it would have been a one star.... luckily I got there at perfect timing. I would rather eat crap with great service, than ok food and be treated like crap. read more

Several in our party had the grouper - found it to be delicious. Food overall was good and fresh. The bread was a big hit as was the chocolate mousse and the flourless chocolate cake. I decided to try this restaurant because of the reviews and menu that included choice meats. Upon arrival, I was greeted by a rude hostess. I was asked if I had a reservation and I said no. I asked if one was required and was told no. Then she berated me telling me in was in her personal space. I was startled and confused by this comment as she was the hostess and behind a counter. If she had Covid concerns, which I would have understood, she should have masked but chose not to and treated me rudely. Considering they advertise this as being a family friendly restaurant, she did not elude those values. I have no idea why she has this job in the hospitality industry with that poor attitude. The service staff was nice but the food was pedestrian at best. My veal Marsala was thin, fatty and thickly sauced. The potatoes and my beer was nice. Mind you the food is premium priced and it is reasonable to expect a premium product but it was not. Maybe that is why this establishment has changed hands so frequently lately. Decided to go to Billy's tonight (Saturday) - wanted a nice meal together. We were disappointed! First, let me say that the service was wonderful- our waitress, Angela, was very professional and attentive. The meal was not good! We started with jumbo shrimp cocktail and fried calamari - the shrimp was not jumbo in size and we sent the calamity back - it had no taste and might not have been fresh. We tried the crab cocktail- nothing special. Then we tried a Caesar salad and the soup of the day - the salad dressing was bland, there was very little cheese on the salad and the romaine lettuce was just tired. The soup was good - tomato and mushroom. For entrees we tried a 12 ounce prime rib and grilled salmon. The prime rib was just awful - 50% fat and gristle and bland. The salmon was ok . When we spoke to the waitress about the prime rib, she said we must have had one of the last pieces available, that "a large crowd in the other room ordered a lot of prime rib." It was 6:00 on a Saturday night!we expected to get a nice prime rib at Billy's! Anyway, we skipped dessert because we we just didn't want any further disappointment. I have been visiting daytona for over 12 years and this has been by far the worst over all dinning experience I have had. The food was absolutely awful.......My dad's chicken was completely dry, my steak had no flavor, and my friend said the relish tray was soooo small that if he gave it to his dog, the dog would have thought it did something wrong. Further more, the service was sub-par.........The staff was in jeans and very uneducated on their entrees. We tipped the waitress 10%, which we felt was good for the conditions, but she had the audacity to comment on it! We will never be back to Billy'................. read more

This was, at one time, one of our favorite places as much for the food as the atmosphere and employees. Sadly, it was sold 3 years ago and about 4 months ago they closed down under foreclosure. This place has been here since the beginning of time, and it seems that much of the clientle has aged with it :) All the same, they serve good quality Continental/American fare and have a respectable bar. The atmosphere is classy, though a bit dressy for my liking. It's frankly not my first choice--I prefer a place a little "hipper" or more distinctive, and I get tired of feeling like the young kid in the room. Went back and so disappointed! Could not eat the crust of the prime rib as there was so much salt it was burning the back of my throat. We were having a great time and our waiter spent more time snarling then smiling. Yes I ate my meal but didn't eat the crust of the prime rib and when I told him and others at the table confirmed it he said ok and took my plate and walked away. Billy's is once again opened under new ownership. The inside has been revamped with new floors and thorough cleaning. However it still maintains its old tavern feel. The prices are a bit more expensive than most restaurants in the area but the high quality of the food made it worth the extra price. My wife ordered the grouper a la Billy. The filet was huge and very fresh. My mother-in-law ordered the filet mignon au poivere. The filet was cooked perfectly and was incredibly tender. I ordered the fish in chips. Very nice haddock filet with hand cut fries. All in all a very nice experience. Much better than our last visit to Billy's a few years ago. We told ourselves that it wasn't the same after that visit. It's nice to see the new owners have returned to the traditional values that made Billy's so special in the past. read more

I am pretty picky and it takes a lot to impress me so I have to say - I was pleasantly surprised with our experience at Billy's Tap Room.
