While I found it a bit pricy, I also found this little place to be worth the money. The staff is super knowledgeable about their extensive wine list and are very friendly, and willing to let you sample a few wines before committing to a selection. They also have an impresive selection of cheeses and charcuterie. Each piece of cheese or salami/ham will set you back $8. For instance the Hubs and I ordered one cheese and one salami selection and it was a $16 charge. The portions are most generous though and come with lovely slices of french baguette. The crowd is a bit pretentious, and over impressed with themselves. If, however, you can overlook all the vapid conversation going on around you, you are sure to have an enjoyable bottle of vino! read more

Too strong of a 4 star to keep at a 4. Yes, kind of pricey but you can get out without spending too much if careful. They sell 3 and 5 oz. glasses of wine which is great for me because I just want a small glass and my lovely bride would rather have a little more. The bartenders/wine stewards/sommeliers are very charming and the place is super cozy and if you are shopping anywhere near here the price does not matter too much so it is a must visit between shopping or after shopping. We also got the Speck Ham shaved thin with lovely slices of baguette. For 9$ it seemed like a very good deal and we absolutely loved the ham. Went very good with my glass of Malbec and the glass gave me the umph I needed to buy that lovely gift for my wife so a great visit. I wish they had Happy Hour but really they don't need it. I was in Charleston for 2 days and this place was so awesome that I went twice! This is something I always try to avoid doing when traveling to a place I've never been. I came here the first night around 6pm to grab a few drinks before figuring out where else I'd go for the rest of the evening. They have a pretty amazing wine and champagne selection to say he least.. I had 3 glasses of one of their brut champagnes (I don't remember the name) and it was delicious. Very dry with the right amount of sweetness. The place has a very intimate atmosphere that is perfect for holding conversation or a date. There are also tables spread around the restaurant and the lights are dimly lit. Very mature atmosphere. I opted to sit at the bar where I held some great conversation with two bartenders, one of which was the owner. They both could not have been any nicer. They literally set me up for the entire trip by writing down every restaurant, bar or activity I needed to try. They turned out to be correct as everywhere I went in Charleston was awesome. The next night I came back was no different. This was my favorite place in Charleston from an overall experience standpoint. Great drinks, great atmosphere, awesome staff and they even have multiple meat and cheese platters to snack on with your drinks. An absolute must if you're visiting Charleston. read more

I visited Thursday evening with two friends and we had a fantastic time here. Bin 152 is cozy, charming and classy - dim candle lighting, antique furniture and wood accents. It has a very speakeasy, private club vibe. I nearly walked past the place because it looked closed! Our bartender was polite and extremely knowledgeable and the owner Patrick (aka "Hank" haha) was awesome. Both treated us like family. We were there for several hours and enjoyed great conversation with our three bottles of wine - each unique and delicious. They really listened to our unique tastes and descriptions to find the perfect bottle(s) - and we didn't feel dismissed for not being wine connoisseurs. I'm truly looking forward to coming back for a wine and cheese pairing evening with the ladies. Hats off to Patrick for his amazing establishment and staff! See you again soon. read more

Buyer Beware: Overprice and Fox in Sheep's clothing. We were excited to try Bin 152 as our concierge recommended it to us for happy hour. So off we went... We walked in and the ambience is nothing to write home about as it's kinda dark farm house not wine bar chic. When looking over the wine menu, we noticed the 3oz and the 5oz pours on the menu and when we went to order our wine we decided to all try the same one. Our waiter suggested a bottle but we were heading out to dinner, decided on one glass each would be enough. I even went going over the comparison of $11 a glass (3oz pour) = $33 and the bottle was $57. When our bill came we noticed that we were charged $18 per glass (the 5oz pours) we were shocked! We totally didn't order the 5oz pours! I even said oh at $11 per glass that's fine and we thought the waiter understood this. Come on the difference was $3.00 between the three glasses and the bottle price! When we inquired the waitress said oh we automatically pour the 5oz unless you tell us which is total utter crap because we did order the 3oz pours. We walked out feeling quite ripped off and taken which is too bad since we'll be here for a whole week and was looking forward to having a nice place to have happy hour each night. Positives are : location, it is open late, very nice cheese selection and wines but negatives for me were the piece of single cheese only comes with slices of baguette - so a little bit dry. I wish I had at least couple of grapes or jam or nuts or something. I was full at the end but not really satisfied by the experience. The temperature in the room was very low as well.Kind of freezing and the chairs are not comfortable. I am not sure that it will become " my place" although the service was nice and they turned me on to a new drink -" rose lemonade" which I ordered already a case of for my home. It may not be where you'd first look (on Lower King, just above Queen St), but it's worth going a little out of your way to get out of the busyness of East Bay or Upper King--and hey, parking's easy. I've been three times and there's no doubt that Patrick, the owner, is absolutely passionate about wine. Beyond the wine and food, Patrick and his wife Fanny are super easygoing and fun to talk with about wine or whatever else. They feature large paintings by local artists on the walls and the antique furniture gives it a nice feel. In addition to wine, they have cheeses and dried meats--all $7 each. For your $7 you get a big portion, enough for two people to get a lot, plus plenty of fresh baguette. Everything we've eaten there was delicious; so far the Delice de Bourgogne triple cream takes the cake. The wine by the glass is from $7 to $15, with lots of options and the bottles start under $30. Like the cheese, every wine I've tried so far has been high quality and it's clear that high quality is the only thing Patrick and Fanny bring into their shop. We were recommended by Kevin the Concierge at the Holiday inn to try out this newish (3 month old ) wine bar & we are very glad we did. Bin 152 is located at the south end of King St a bit further down than most shops & Bars etc..... but it is well worth the trip down. The place is owned by a Husband & Wife team, Fanny (The French half ) & Patrick from NJ. They are a great host couple & very knowledgable about wine & its pairings with Cheese & Meats. Bin 152 is a classical French Bistro type place with great local Art on the walls which they plan to rotate every couple of months.We enjoyed a 2006 La Soufrandise Pouilly fuisse,A non Vintage aubry Fils Brut Champagne (which was excellent) a 2008 Buehler Russian river Chardonnay & a 2006 Salentein Malbec from Argentina. Paired together with Excellent French Bread, Cheese & Italian ham.They really have some superb selections of cheese & Meats to go with a broad selection of wines. Especially i like that they allowed us small tastes of open wines before we chose them & Really Fanny & Patrick are excllent hosts, we felt more as though we were at someones home rather than a wine bar. I wish them the very best success as a new business in tough times, ceratinly they had a good turn out the night we were there & the fully deserve a 5 star rating. So do you remember that time you were in brooklyn and there was that really small nondescript dark wine bar on the corner you walked into late at night looking for some awesome wine and maybe some cheese, and you found people hanging out talking about old movies and why new jersey sucks...me either. But there was this time in Charleston where all of this happened. I would come here solely for the ambiance; dark and basement-y, but comfortable. Wines on the walls, dark 1000 year old wood floors, spotless bright bathroom, and comforting french music. 2 people on staff, the owner and the funny guy. They were very welcoming and talkative, they gave us some great suggestions on cheese (the tripel creme...so good you could eat the skin). The bread is great too...don't ask where they get it. The wine selection is pretty vast and good for all price points. They never close early they told us and They even went out of their way to suggest where to eat next (FIG and 2 Boroughs Larder, both exceptional for different reasons). So if you are ever in Charleston at midnight craving an odd trip with strangers, try this place. read more

My friend and I drove down to Charleston for a roadtrip, and after driving through the night and arriving in the afternoon, we settled into our hotel and began wandering around the downtown area. We stumbled into Bin 152 in the late afternoon, and it was one of the highlights of our trip! If you can, grab a seat at the bar. Michael is such a doll! He recommended delicious wine and cheese choices and after finding out we were from out of town, he listed some local spots for lunch/dinner and less-touristy destinations in Charleston. Incredible place! Phenomenal wine and food list. Everyone who works there has an amazing in depth knowledge of the wines they have. They themselves help curate what is going to be sold in the store. The 3 who were there each had some level of being a Sommelier, so you know they are dedicated to their craft. I was checking out the cheeses that they had available and one of the Somms there instantly suggested two different cheeses that ended up pairing amazingly with my wine. I grabbed a meat to pair with the two cheeses and it also came with a baguette! You can split it between a few people, if you want. Highly highly suggest this place! read more
