One of the worst dining experiences I have ever been apart of. The manager/ bartender, I believe his name is Dennis, treated our party incredibly unprofessionally. He screamed at multiple members of our party and treated the women of the group with no respect. Such a great place! First of all, we have to give a shoutout to Nikki and Dennis for being so friendly, professional and awesome. Their service is exceptional, the drinks are terrific, the food is fantastic. We sat outside with our dog and Nikki offered to give him water and treats without our even having to ask. We got the crab cakes, burger and organic greens and everything tasted fresh. For drinks, the Moscow mules are awesome. Couldn't recommend it enough! read more

I cannot love this place more! Always a super fun and friendly atmosphere. Sitting at the bar for happy hour (2-4-1 drinks) and enjoying the bar menu is always a great way to end my day. The bartender Dennis makes the most amazing cocktails and serves them with a side of humor. The rest of the staff is always fun to be around and makes you feel welcome even when you go in alone. Two wonderful dining experiences at Bennekill Tavern! Our favorites were the smooth as silk cauliflower soup (my husband would have never guessed it was 'hated' cauliflower LOL), the pesto penne (best I've ever had), delicious lamb meat loaf and pork schnitzel, and the killer chocolate BOMB dessert... I should have written down all the names so I would remember after 2 glasses wine. ;) Love how much of the original character of the original Bennekill was preserved- very well done, especially the addition of the new copper fire tower! So excited to have this great new restaurant in Margaretville... we will be back! read more

The food here is Absolutely Fantastic!!! I have been here 3 times now, twice for dinner and once for late lunch/cocktails and bar menu items that turned into a full blown meal.... just because I kept ordering and wanted to keep tasting different things. I've tasted many of the items on the menu since friends joined so had the chance to try an array of what is offered... Let me tell you: the chef, without question, knows her stuff and she is extremely talented. The bartender, is great, aims to please and can make any type of concoction you request although there are plenty of cocktails to choose from.... he has passion in what he does and is very engaging. (And oh my, those arms!). For anyone commenting on waitstaff in previous reviews, give it some time, they are learning their craft and about the food. The area is lucky to have a restaurant like this in the area as they are to be in this beautiful landscape. Give this place a try, support this newish business and you won't be disappointed. All the more reason to head to beautiful Margaretville.... and btw, this puts other well known "foodie" restaurants East of the area to shame. Keep up the great work Binnekill Tavern! First time and the food and atmosphere was wonderful. Hubby had the wings and I had the burger with truffle fries. Friendly waitstaff and bartender. The menu had such interesting food. Will definitely go back. When we come to visit area again. read more

We had a great dinner here with our family during July 4th weekend. Very good beer selection and the meatloaf was delicious. Service was not great but it was a very busy weekend so I'll only dock 1 star for that. Planning to visit again when we return to the area. read more

I have been to this restaurant 4 times. Each time I keep expecting it to get better because they are new and need time, blah, blah, blah. I am so disappointed and somewhat insulted that the owners of this restaurant think that the people of this neighborhood don't deserve better. I know for a fact that they have gotten feedback regarding the lack of seasoning etc, but it clearly doesn't seem to matter. All the hype and no delivery. No thanks. Came here for lunch. They had a nice diverse menu, and all of the 4 dishes we ordered were good. It's much better than traditional "tavern" food -- there are healthy choices you can make among salads and veggies. I think we will try it for supper! read more

Great to see the place reopen, with a modern menu (with a nod to Walter's schnitzel on Mondays) and friendly service. Taking the center wall down between the bar and the dining room makes it lots more inviting, but makes the acoustic livelier (loud!). I look forward to returning! read more

We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner here. We had shrimp cocktail - 6 huge shrimp - firm and tender. We also tried the pork belly appetizer which was awesome. We had lamb meatloaf and NY strip steak. Both were delicious, perfectly prepared and presented. Nice wines by the glass, great meal choices for everyone, reasonable price points and great service. Can't go wrong - definitely the best meal we had during our five night stay at the amazing Roxbury Motel! We will absolutely be back on our next trip - probably every night - just that good! read more

I was in town visiting my girlfriend who is new to the town and the menu was eclectic compared to other places. We were seated right away on a Saturday night. Nice crowd. I don't know if service is slow or just not attentive enough that is the problem. Or maybe a slow kitchen. Either way it took awhile to get things. Another couple had sat down after we came in and if finishing first was a race they would have won. The food was quite good. I had the lamb meatloaf while my girlfriend had the trout which acts like a delicious salmon. By the time we were working on our entrees it seemed the couple next to us were ready for dessert. When it came time for dessert I opted for the chocolate bomb. The waitress never came around to see if we wanted more drinks. And we waited some more for dessert. We waited to the point that when the couple next to us asked for the check we asked for ours. So no dessert. At that point there were not many diners in the left in the place so I'm left scratching as to why things took so long to come out of the kitchen. read more

First off, I was so happy to hear that the Binnekill Restaurant was going to reopen. I and my wife frequently dined in the restaurant when it was previously owned by Walter and Jackie. I was even more happy when I read the press release that the new owners were going to include some of the favorites that Walter had on the menu. While I normally do not go to a new restaurant until they have been open for a couple of weeks to give them sometime to shake out the bugs. We decided that we were going to give them a shot a week after they opened. I made the reservation using open table without any problems. When we arrived at the date and time of our reservation we warmly greeted and taken to our table. The first two things we noticed is the lack of lighting, We all like subtle lighting during dinner. This was way lower then that to the point you could not read the menu. The next thing the peaceful quite dining experience we were used to was gone. The new owners removed the partition walls and the carpet off the floor. The noise level was defining so forget the idea of a quiet and romantic dinner as a mater of fact forget about talking to anyone since you can't hear anything over the noise of the other people trying to talk to each other. The waitress stops at our table and welcomes us and leaves a menu. After looking at the menu it becomes quickly apparent that most of the items on the Binnekill Taverns website are not on the menu. Getting over this the short ribs sounded good. When the waitress returned we asked if they had a drink menu and she promptly brought us one. The wine menu was bizarre it listed wines such as Chardonnay with a price but did list what the brand of the wine. I brazenly ordered a 40 dollar of Chardonnay not knowing if it would be made by Barefoot or Kendal Jackson. We proceed to place our meal order I order the cauliflower soup and the short ribs; my wife orders the smoked trout salad and the Margreteville Duck. The waitress leaves and quickly returns and said they are out of the short ribs. I look at the menu again and decide to go with the skillet chicken. The waitress returns with a bottle of wine opens it pours the wine in both mine and my wife's glass sets the bottle on the table and leaves. I guess that the normal process of showing the bottle label, pouring a sample pour and putting the wine in a chiller at the table was not going to happen. One of the staff members comes over and talks about the lack of lighting and states that they have ordered diffusers for the lights, so this will be improved and apologizes. Our appetizers come out my soup was just OK and my wife's salad was bland. Were more hopeful the main course will be better. The main course took forever and the same staff member that told us about the lighting told us our meal would be out shortly on two different occasions and apologized for the delay. My wife truly enjoyed the Duck. The chicken in my meal was overcooked to the point of being dry and almost inedible. This was disappointing since the reduction sauce; Brussel sprouts and bacon were incredible. I decided to continue eating as long as you took a fork full of the chicken with the other ingredients it was barely edible. The waitress returns after we finish and ask if we would like dessert. Me and my wife order the desert just to complete the experience. My wife ordered the warm chocolate bombe cake and I order the ricotta cheese cake a coffee with a sambuca. The desserts come out my cheese cake is good my wife said hers was dry and not very good. The coffee is good but the sambuca come out in a rock bottom glass without 3 coffee beans. Bottom line the place needs time to mature and get there act polished and perfected. A meal for two that was upwards of 150 dollars you would expect better an overall better fine dining experience. We will revisit the Binnekill Tavern in a couple of months to see if they have improved. Sorry for the wordy but thorough review Jim read more

We had an amazing dinner here Memorial Day weekend. The cocktails are delicious and beautifully executed. We ordered appetizers that were great-shrimp cocktail, oysters and onion soup-but there were so many more we would have liked to try. The service was attentive, we didn't feel rushed but we never wondered where our waiter was, even on a busy holiday weekend. For dinner two had the lamb meatloaf and loved it but had to skip desert. The chicken and the schnitzel dishes were also delicious, modern and fresh but still satisfying. I can't say enough good things about the consistency in the quality of the food and drinks. We had a party of four and everyone was more than happy with everything they ordered. I highly recommend this restaurant if you are in the area. read more

We dine here regularly...great food, casual atmosphere, and friendly staff. Favorites are Shrimp & Grits, Salmon with Blood Orange Glaze, Mushroom Salad with Walnuts and Fennel, Pork Belly, and Coconut Shrimp. Dining room has a beautiful copper fireplace and the rustic bar area offers comfortable seating. Cocktails created by Dennis never disappoint. My husband took me to the Binnekill Tavern to celebrate my birthday this week. We had been there a few years back when it was the Binnekill restaurant, run by Chef Walter. We were very excited to see the renovations and try the food. We were NOT disappointed! We were greeted at the door by Nicholas (one of the owners) and seated near the gorgeous copper, wood-burning fireplace. Our waitress, Patty, was friendly and helpful and didn't overwhelm us with information nor did we feel rushed. For appetizers, I had the bowl of PEI mussels and my husband the smoked trout salad. I like smoked trout, but I love mussels. Each mussel was plump and creamy and bursting with flavor! Not a "chewy" one inn the pot! And the broth was incredible - white wine, cream, garlic, butter and a hint of fennel! It came with slices of crisp bread that absorbed the broth without getting soggy. For our entrees, my husband got the pork schnitzel (an homage to the late Chef Walter on Mondays) which was tender and tasty. I got the roasted trout with cauliflower. The flesh came away nicely and there wasn't a single bone! For dessert we split the duck egg creme bruleé. Wow! We paired all of this with a Bordeaux Blanc. I can't wait for my kids to come visit so we can take them there! read more

Came by late on Sunday after Thanksgiving for a quick bite and to try out the new place. They had closed the kitchen due to a slow night but very generously re-opened it to make me a burger. It was a fantastic burger and the rest of the menu looks fantastic too. Can't wait to come back. Very very happy Margaretville now has an option of this caliber and quality. This much anticipated restaurant has hit its stride faster and better than most. I have been six times and 'had my way' with their diverse menu; everything from superb soups and fresh, inventive salads, and twice now, their Crispy Pork Belly with Napa Cabbage Slaw - fantastic! Their Double Bacon Cheeseburger is not just one of the best ever but also the 'biggest burger' ever! Most memorable entree: Skillet Chicken with Maple Lemon Miso, Shiitake mushrooms, Brussel Sprouts and Bacon. All that said, the service was great and hats off to a great bartender! What a delight to have this new addition to our community! The new owners are serving great food in just the right way. My dining companion said the burger was one of the best he has had! I love the refreshed room with the new fireplace. The streamside location will make for some wonderful evenings when the weather gets warm. The entire staff is working to please and the results get better each time I go back. There is a great balance of friendliness and professionalism that is just right for this location. This place would have been great had it not been for the ridiculous and unwarranted behavior by Dennis, the bartender/manager. You would think that he would recognize that as the face of the business on a regular basis, he should treat his customers with respect and decency. However, this was not the case this past weekend. A slight miscommunication when my party in excess of 10 people arrived could have easily been resolved in a calm and respectful manner. Instead, Dennis decided it was a better idea to yell and berate, swear, put his finger in our faces, (including his staff), as well as slam drinks down and stomp around behind the bar in anger. Despite the fact that multiple members of our party tried to speak to him in a peaceful manner, he continued to treat us like absolute garbage. As someone who has worked in the restaurant business, that type of disrespect is the last thing you want as a customer and Dennis clearly is unfit for a job in the service industry. He unfortunately ruined the experience of this establishment for over 10 people and we will never go back. read more
