I have been wanting to donate plasma for awhile now. I'm fully tattooed on my arms. I had gone in to BIOLIFE in Round Rock to see if was even worth setting up an appt. The nurse found a spot and told me they could make it work. I set up an appt for today, had my ID and online info for the paperwork, got checked in and when it was time for my appt I was sent over to a woman names CLEO who was absolutely AWFUL. Before I even said hello her demeanor was annoyed and disinterested. She asked for all my info again and I told her I had just given it to the lady up front. She immediately dismissed me and said she didn't care she was the one checking me in. I was shocked by her attitude towards me, I felt like I had done something to her yet I've never met her before in my life. I apologized because I'd have to log back into some of my info on my phone and it would take a moment. When I lowered my mask for 2 seconds for the facial recognition on my iPhone she raised her voice at me telling me to keep my mask on. I had lowered my mask for my temp and for a photo so I was again floored by her tone towards me. Again, I apologized saying I had to do it to get into my phone. She said nothing. The rest of the check in was uncomfortable to say the least. As she was checking me in she would start conversations with staff members walking by asking about what they re having for lunch, yet she couldn't even be professional with a client. I was getting to the point where I didn't want to stay. I thought about telling her never mind but I let it go because the plasma isn't for HER it's for someone who needs it. I wasn't going to let her unprofessionalism stop me from doing a good thing. When I was done with her and they did a vein check they told me I couldn't even do it, that my veins were little and it would be uncomfortable. Everyone in there was friendly and professional EXCEPT CLEO. She was terrible, so bad my anxiety was extremely high when I left. People are going in there to do a good deed and whether you're paying us or not we're giving something for that payment, you're not giving us a hand out. No person has any right to treat any of the people that come in there like that turning them off from donating at all. I don't know if Cleo was having a bad day, someone upset her or if she was being discriminating but I did nothing to warrant that behavior. I'm an essential worker and would NEVER treat a client the way she treated me. Counterproductive to the cause, the experience was extremely uncomfortable and upsetting. read more

Before donating at Biolife Plasma, I would definitely Google all ratings on BioLife Plasma Services. You will notice that they have very low ratings. They are unsanitary, and have very to extremely low levels of customer service, no calls back to donors, and no one will answer the phone period. I highly suggest you not to donate your plasma here unless want to catch something like a bad attitude or a disease you cant rid your body of. I set up my first appointment online and when I came in for it the lady at the front said they don't take pictures of documents (even though their email to prepare you states they can) so I asked for my ID and phone back and said fine I just won't donate today and then suddently she has a solution for me where we can still check the documents virtually. Waited an hour to get checked in only to be told by the nurse who was doing a vein check that she couldn't find any veins so I would have to come back in two weeks after I've fully hydrated. I told her that I just have deep veins but they're there, and she kept insisting that she couldn't find them because I wasn't hydrated enough. I drink 2 48 oz water bottles A DAY. I drank more than that the night before and the morning of to prepare. The nurse wouldn't check my veins again and told me to come back in two weeks. The person doing the vital check ups told me I should drink at least a gallon the day before and the day off. Wasted and hour of my day just to be told no because an incompetent nurse couldn't find deep veins. read more

The facility is clean and the people are nice for the most part. But the coupons are illegal bait and switch. I heard several people complaining that they could not schedule their appointments to keep up with the schedule and they were not allowed to change things in person. As for me, I was told that I was not well enough to donate, despite having been at my doctors' office the day before, perfectly well, and I was lied to by staff that their policy was FDA law, and it was not because I read the law. So if you ignore the coupons and accept lower pay, and/or do this for charity, it is fine, but there is a certain scam being run. read more

Ive been going here for a year and honestly it is hit or miss. You do wait awhile. Most people that work there are kind. However today I had the worst exchange that I honestly had to leave a review. It had been a year and they make you do a physical every 4-6 months so today I went to do mine. I wait 30 minutes and they take me back to check my veins. After a quick check the woman turns me away completely because I only have one arm they can use. However I have only ever had one good arm. I've literally never done the donation in my left arm. When i started they noted that on my account that they could only use my right arm. She tells me to drink more water and can come back in 2 days. I state that I have been coming for a whole year without an issue and this has never come up before. She says curtley well at this location you need two arms. So i reply yes I have been donating at THIS location. And she rudely says well maybe try more water.... It isnt my water intake... it has ALWAYS been like this. I have small veins. There is no point to return if this is the policy so I will be going to CSL Plasma but she could have acknowledged this was a new rule instead of trying to gaslight me about what has been the case for a year. Or idk a simple acknowledgment that I wasted my time. But no empathy and this isnt the first time this particular staff member wasnt kind and if you work in customer service maybe try not being so angry. This has been a VERY interesting experience. I donated plasma all through university as I carry the CMV antibody that made my plasma very needed. After a quite few years from university, I moved to a location right around the corner from Biolife so I was delighted at the chance to donate again. So here are the Pros and Cons that I have: Pros: The center is VERY well kept up. It's clean, and aside from the wear & tear on the donation chairs, it is nice and tidy. The majority of the staff are very nice and efficient. They will tell you what will happen when you donate* and the phlebotomists are very efficient. Haven't had a real problem with one and they are very nice about the fact that one arm runs slow and the other is not my first choice. The image of a bunch of drunks/addicts/etc coming in for money to get a fix does not apply here. You will see people from all walks of life donating to help out (and get a little cash on the side) and everyone has been pleasant so far. Cons: First the staff calls them NURSES, but they are not. One "nurse" is a former EMT and the other is....I have no idea since she can't answer my questions about her qualifications. She is Filipino and has a not been able to demonstrate a full command of the English language. She also appears to have a VERY limited understanding of medical terms and anatomy. She actually goggled Sciatic nerve in front of me when i told her I was taking an RX for sciatic nerve pain. ANYONE who has any scratch of medical knowledge at least knows their A&P. (I know this because not only was I a paramedic, I have a degree in Epidemiology.) *They do not fully explain the process pros & cons, so you will have to learn them as you go. Low iron or protein will get you turned out for that donation (you will learn this only after you have had your finger pricked). Any bumps or bruises will cause you to have to be checked by one of the "nurses" to clear you to donate. If you are 5 minutes late to an appointment, you will be declined. You cannot check in until 5 minutes before and appointment, so no rush to be early. If, for some reason. you are unable to finish a donation of plasma, your payment will be affected. I found this out when one of the phlebotomists was unable to get a clear line open for a blood return. We had to use my other arm and I was told if the plasma was not enough it would affect the payment. (I have NEVER been told that before.) Overall this is a nice (sometimes frustrating) way to help others. read more

They're chronically understaffed, which they've told me is because people transfer constantly, which is either a blatant lie or poor management if you have a ton of people leaving. It often takes a half hour to 40 minutes before I even get strapped in for the donation itself. Also I'm often having problems with the MasterCard, which charges me for using my money even though BioLife makes considerably more money off my plasma than what they pay me for it. The most recent problem being that I have less money on it despite the fact that even if I had nothing in it after the last purchase, the money I've made since than should be much more than what's currently shown. Unless you are in desperate need of money I would advise you to avoid this company at all costs. read more

Yes you can make some extra money, yes you can donate for a good cause but after you deal with the above mentioned negative issues it really isn't worth your time!! I have donated at the Harwood Heights location once. The employees are professional and courteous; however the management lacks empathy, as well as common sense. They act like automatons less the artificial intelligence. When I attempted to donate a second time, I was told that because my drivers license did not contain the Jr that my ss card had, I would not be allowed to donate. So I went to the county clerk and obtained my birth certificate. Then I attempted to get a duplicate license with Jr placed back on it ( I am 62 & haven't had Jr on my license since 1975 when my father passed), but due to COVID, the DMV is only open for 1rst time drivers until Jan 5. So I went back to Harwood Heights with birth certificate, and drivers license (same birthdate),ss card, ss paperwork(same birthdate & address) , but all I got was a blank stare and have a nice day. It was like dealing with a robot ( but not an A.I. robot, more like a roomba. Don't these managers need to take an intelligence test of some type or are they allowed to use their degree from the University of Phoenix.com probably majoring in Sanskrit. This is a good concept but poorly run overall. Appointment times are given out, but they really have no meaning. Last Friday, I had a 2:15pm appt time, but did not get a bed until 4pm. This Friday, the initial test was quick, but there was a 30 person wait for a bed. Not sure who or what does the schedule. The logic needs an adjustment for sure. BioLife Plasma Services - Blood & Plasma Donation Centers Near Me - Austin, Texas

The process is such a pain. They schedule way too many people at once and the line just to get screened is always so long. Agree with another reviewer that staff is not on the same page. One time I had a bruise on one arm from a previous donation so I couldn't use it for a few weeks. I have a tattoo on the other arm and at one point used it with no issue. The next time I went I stood in line for the pre-screening process and by the time I finally got to the donation chair an hour later the staff members said they could not use it due to the tattoo. Now with COVID-19 going on I'm consistently getting emails from them asking for donations, but when I arrived they informed me that nobody could wear a surgical mask in the facility. Blood pressure cuffs were not getting wiped down between patients: the person who took my blood told me he works another job at a major health system in the area, which just increases the risk of transmission. They are not practicing the social distancing or precautionary measures that they preach. read more

As a first time donor, I was offered and selected a $350 / for first five visit promo offered directly on my biolife account . I presented this coupon / offer at the time of my physical (as instructed on the promotion and within the dates listed). The nurse said, unfortunately she was not able to honor this promotion as her computer was not accepting it. I took time from my day to drive, and 3 hours of my day to go through the physical and donate(for my first donation), in addition to the additional time and $ which I spent to have my doctor complete a form which Biolife required. The nurse said - don't you worry, the offer I have is for $500 over 8 visits. One does not need to be a math genius to know $350 over 5 visits is more than what $800 over 8 visits equates too. Misrepresentation is NOT okay. It felt like a "bait and switch". Very disappointed. I did donate, however I was told the assistant manager would call me today regarding the difference in the promotion offered. The assistant manager did not. I will likely wait to complete my second donation until and IF that person follows up. Misrepresentation is NOT okay. There ARE other OPTIONS as to where I choose to donate plasma. My recommendation, to others, is to explore them. What was promised in terms of compensation was not met. Felt that misrepresentation occurred. read more

It is unreasonable for someone to wait 2-2 1/2 hours in line before you are allowed to donate. This is the case most every day after 5pm. This must be exposing me to more of a risk for contracting Covid 19 since we are a big group in close contact. They are grossly understaffed. This isn't worth the meager $30 I will get for staying here for so long. They need to limit appointments based on available staff. They had limited appointments before why can't you do this again? Waiting 2 hours in line just to do the first step, very little care for the fact that their app screws up your appointments and you drive all the way there just to find your not scheduled so sorry, have a nice day. I was invited by a friend to go with her to see what this was all about. So I get there and didnt realize they Required a social security card present so I was already a little irritated but the lady was patient and smart enough to tell me to login to my turbotax and pull it up that way. I get through the paperwork and they realize I live over an hour away which is nothing to me because I work down here in this area and drive it every day. Ends up they cant take my donation because I'm out of the service area. Bottom line is from the lady who first took my ID to Lauren at the front desk, they were all very professional and very personable. Lauren was joking back and forth with me. They get you in with a descent monetary amount and then after your 30 days are up they send you offers for $10 or $20 per donation. How cheap and how much money they are making off your donation! Other people are making $100 for one single donation. If you call them, they also rudely tell you they won't pay you more until you've been gone for six months or you're a new person. How am I so post make it worth my time if I can not get an appointment for my second donation. I've been an off and on regular donor for about 3 years and over that time many glitches happened along the way. First is the fingerprint system they use; it is very finicky and I've never been able to get it to take my prints. Instead of being able to walk in, answer questions, get my vitals checked, then donate, I have to wait for someone to log me onto a computer (to answer questions) which can take between 3 - 10 or more minutes. After completing the questionnaire, I then get to stand in line again to get my vitals taken but not before another employee has to take me to another computer, print out a form for me to sign, then return to the desk to get my vitals taken. And that doesn't always go so smoothly either as some of the med techs don't know how to check in a "manual" donor. The next hurdle is having vitals that allow me to donate. Obviously the levels are set to make sure that the donor is healthy enough to donate (and the plasma is usable) but the medical technicians don't tell you before hand what the markers are and unless you ask, you'll only learn what they are after you fail one or more. As a vegetarian this is important information as protein levels are one of the things that they are testing for. Anything below 6 points is not accepted so after driving across town and spending up to 30 or more minutes to get to that point, you can be turned away. It can be frustrating and avoidable by upping my proteins when they start to get low but it would be helpful if the techs would give us all of our vitals each time they're taken so we know if any of them are low. I have also given the donation only to learn later that my proteins were too low and I wouldn't be allowed to donate again until my blood is drawn for another test. Results are supposed be available within a couple of weeks afterwards, but I've waited up to 3 months to get them. A couple of months ago, a supply shortage forced the center to cut way back on donations which only allowed for one donation a week. To their credit, we received $40 each time we donated during that time, which lasted about a month or so. Now I have hit another wall. Somehow I have managed to donate fairly regularly over the past 2 or 3 years, and get compensated $20 for the first donation and $50 for the second. Apparently I'd been on a lucky streak because I have now donated three times this month and due to their rules, I have yet to receive $50 for my follow up donations. The first one was made on the 1st of the month which was outside of the payment schedule for July so I didn't get the $50 even though I donated within 7 days of the previous donation. I then gave again only to learn that I'd waited too long after the last donation (only 10 days) and forfeited the $50 again. Today I donated - less than 6 days after the last donation, but because I didn't donate in the same week, I only got $20 again. As far as I can tell, this company is doing everything possible to mislead donors and fix the system so that it's very difficult to be compensated as they advertise. Sadly, I'm going to have to go in search of another company because I have now run out of patience. This company is clearly set on doing everything possible to keep from fairly compensating their donors and in the process, putting the receivers of a much needed life saving source at risk. read more

I signed up to donate plasma for a $600 promotion. I got $360 & had 3 payments left of $70, $80 & $90 but I got $20 instead. I called the center 5 times, was placed on hold over 30min each time & was never able to talk to a supervisor, even when I left a message. I live 45 min away & the promotion was worth the drive but it sucked when they didn't pay what they promoted. If the center was closer I would gladly donate for $20. read more

You know I gave an extra star because the majority of the time it goes well but I've had one person twice my first time I had to get the needle transferred to my other arm and left with a hematoma. My second time with this person they blatantly ignored my vein and I wasn't even there for 15 minutes before I had an ice pack and a hematoma and was walking out the door. As a new donor, I was not aware that biolife required social security on hand. I asked employee, if my husband can take a picture and message me, they said no. I asked if he can bring it over while I proceed with my registration, they said it has to be within 10 minutes window from start of my appointment. Unfortunately he cannot make it to place within 10 minutes due to traffic (we live 7 minutes away from place). As the result I left. Very bed customer service.
