Consider this..Takeda Pharmaceutical who is the parent company of BioLife has a $54B market cap. However, is paying you peanuts for your plasma. If they don't get your plasma they can't report profits to their shareholders. Based on my weight and hemoglobin, I gave 1050ml for a payment but the person next to me because they were less weight and hemoglobin only gave 450ml yet received the same payment. They were in and out in 30 minutes; I was there almost an hour. Is that fair? In an investigative report, "Donating" plasma is low-paid labor that has become essential to an exploitative global medical industry." The USA is 1 of only 5 countries to legally allow selling of your plasma. Its long term health effects are unknown and short term leads to dehydration. There's also a book written about the industry called "Blood Money", an excerpt - "Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, roughly one thousand Mexican nationals crossed the US border every week to donate plasma at the fifty or so clinics in the El Paso, Texas, area." read more

My experience was very unpleasant, to say the least. I waited approximately 45 minutes past my scheduled appointment time before being seen. When I was having my vitals taken, I noticed what appeared to be traces of blood on the floor around the vitals workstation and surrounding area. When I brought it to the staff's attention, they were unaware it was there and could not tell me how long it had been present. This is extremely unsanitary and concerning, especially given the potential health risks associated with bloodborne pathogens. Because of this, I did not feel comfortable staying long enough to complete my plasma donation. There clearly needs to be improvements in the intake process, cleanliness protocols, and overall staff awareness. This level of sanitation and oversight is unacceptable for a facility handling plasma donations. This was a very negative experience, and it has made me seriously question whether I will return to this location or donate plasma anywhere again. I hope this issue is addressed so future donors do not have a similar experience. read more

The cleanliness and efficiency at this location really need improvement. The blood pressure machines are visibly dusty--you could practically tweet the dust. Bathrooms are dirty, and the right sink is clogged. One of the male nurses had noticeable body odor during my visit, which was unpleasant. The techs taking vitals tend to chat excessively while working, which slows everything down and causes long lines. Luisa, in particular, seems to take much longer per donor because of constant conversation--while other techs have already moved on to their second or third patient. The waiting room walls are grimy with dark marks from people leaning against them, and the overall space feels unkept. Some techs who rush can also be rough, which can cause unnecessary pain. This location could be much better with proper cleaning, more efficient workflow, and a focus on both professionalism and patient comfort. read more

Dirty!!!!!!! Mean staff!!!! State inspectors need to visit this place. I had a fake report of something in the blood test my doctor had a test done and there was nothing. He warned me nicely to go somewhere else. I just stopped plasma donations as who needs dirt, mean staff, faulty test equipment and a staff member telling me I may be very sick and I was not sick at all. Luisa was hostile, combative and made verbal threats against me. I approached the counter and sat down, I was not greeted, I asked "How are you doing today?" Luisa said, "I'm just so done with today". She did not follow protocol by asking me, "Do you have any gum or candy in your mouth?" like every tech has asked me before taking my temperature before every donation I had. Luisa shoved the thermometer awkwardly in my mouth, it was so far against the left side of my mouth it was clanking against my teeth and not even underneath my tongue. The temperature reading was off so I had to try again. Luisa said "Go sit down and wait." Without instructing me which chairs to wait. When she saw me waiting in the post-donation recovery chairs she said "Go wait over there so I don't forget about you." and pointed to another set of chairs she didn't point out to me before. When I was seated again at the counter I was feeling extremely off, so far Luisa has shown that she does not and will not uphold herself to the same standards and protocols as her colleagues hold themselves to, as she is not verbally interacting with me with the questions I'm normally asked, such as "Do you have any gum or candy in your mouth?" When I placed my hand near the thermometer to hold it she grit her teeth and with an impatient tone of voice she said, "I have to put it in your mouth." I backed my whole body away in my chair, lifted my hands up, showing my palms, and in a confused tone of voice I said, "That's not how the other techs have done it." Immediately the volume of her voice increased and her tone has become infuriated, she snaps at me with the retort, "If you have a problem with it I'll get my manager." This was said in a petulant tone of voice, Luisa was conveying her lack of self control and lack of willingness to regulate her own emotions, she displayed the attitude of: "How dare you express agency in the donation process by expressing confusion or concern, I will punish you by stopping your donation right now and calling up my manager so she can make an example out of you!" Again, Luisa threatened to stall my donation process and by telling me she'll get her manager involved I said. "No, let's cooperate." Luisa's face twisted with disgust and she snapped back, "What do you mean?" I said I want to have my temperature taken following protocol. After she placed the thermometer in my mouth the second time I noticed that this time the device was placed underneath my tongue in the center of my mouth and not clicking against my teeth. When she was typing in the results I said, "I didn't know the other techs weren't following protocol." To which she replied, "Well, I'm not going to lose my job over this." I did not give Luisa any instructions or made any requests on how to do her job. It is extremely disappointing that Luisa was so hung up on her emotions that she herself neglected protocol and would rather assert dominance over a donor, threaten to stall the donation process after hearing a donor's expression of bodily autonomy, and disregard a donor's concerns when experiencing inconsistent procedures. Luisa did not follow the protocols she claimed to be following and honestly, her behavior and tone of voice left me feeling disgusted. When I was in the donation chair I shared my concerns with Denise the manager and she was was polite and professional as she heard me explain what kind of experience I had. Another employee beside her was also very polite and helpful in listening to my concerns. When I had the blood pressure cuff on my arm Denise checked in on me and asked, "Are you nervous?" and I told her I was still mad from the interaction I had with Luisa. Denise heard me out and treated me like a human being after I was treated in a very hostile and undignified way. read more

WAY TOO MANY PROBLEMS!!! Was NEVER told that they do labs every 4 months. Which is bullcrap because l've been coming for awhile. The only thing they tell you is that typical you need to weight above this or under than, BP needs to read in a certain range and your temp has to be in a certain range and that you have to do a physical every year. NEVER that they do labs every 4 months. They randomly do labs and won't notify you that they are doing it and then your appts get removed and you're wondering why? And then trying to call them to see what's going on is absolutely pathetic. You should not have to call OVER 30 times to get someone to ANSWER the phone that Biolife has set up for patient convenience. DO NOT HAVE DIFFERENT OPTIONS TO SPEAK TO SOMEONE ABOUT RESULTS/APPT SCHEDULING IF YOURE NOT GOING TO ANSWER THE PHONES. Also from what I was told it's a first come first serve, and whoever sits down firsts gets hooked up first and whoever finishes first gets unhooked first. BULLCRAP! Multiple times have I sat for 30-1 hour waiting to be unhooked and watch people who finish after me get unhooked first. I've have had a tech literally come turn my machine off and go help people who finished after me or sat down after my machine alerted my donation was complete. Also the majority of the tech are WAY too aggressive when pulling the needle out. I have gone way too many times and have had cuts from the needle being pulled out too aggressively. And they also like to temporarily defer people when THEIR machines act up or don't work properly and you are told it's not your fault it's the machine. They punish YOU for their issues. Don't waste your time leaving voicemails because you won't get a call back either, might as well call 52 times so they actually answer or waste your time and go up there because they can't do their job and answer the phone. read more

all I have to say is they tell you that having an appointment is only an hour your time here to do this process that's a lie two hours. I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with the service I received during my recent appointment at your facility. Despite arriving promptly at the scheduled time of 12:55, I was subjected to an unacceptable delay in receiving assistance and beginning the plasma donation process. though I arrived at 12:30. started my questions and needed mine for no vitals to be taken. After enduring a lengthy process for vitals and plasma donation, I expected a smoother and more efficient experience. However, upon finally being seated, it took an additional 25 minutes for a staff member to attend to me and initiate the donation process. This delay not only inconvenienced me but also reflects poorly on the efficiency and professionalism of your establishment. I understand that unforeseen circumstances may arise, but such extensive delays are simply unacceptable, especially considering the importance of timely medical procedures. I urge you to address this issue promptly to ensure that future appointments are conducted in a more efficient manner. I trust that you will take the necessary steps to prevent similar occurrences in the future and improve the overall experience for your patients. read more

Not sure why people review this place so badly. Before you even walk into a place like this you need to do your research and understand exactly what it is you're getting into. Obviously a place is going to be strict about who, when, and how often you can give plasma especially if they're paying you. The whole process is super simple. Once you're actually approved and get the thumbs up to give regularly it couldn't be any easier to set up your next appointment. staff overall are short and dont give a F , dumb 20 year olds who are their 4 the paycheck, if you complain they give you a strike , waiting forever in chair for donation , " hello , can i start my donation? " , (stop cleaning the other chair dingbat , you can do that while im donating, ) ...all of their procedures are inefficient, like they can see the results in the computer but now you need to go away in a hallway and wait for 20 minutes, and then the nurse has to look on her computer and realize that the only problem was that I didn't press my thumb hard enough on the thumb reading device . Several incredible wastes of time constantly while you're there . i donate twice, then they say the 1st donation blood protein was off by 0.1, which means I have to wait a week to go there only to give blood sample, which takes another 10 days to get results. So it causes me to miss over $300 in donations, then I call on day 10, they said the results are in, but the doctor has to call you to say that you passed even though she can look in the computer and see that I passed, no call from the doctor so I'm calling over and over and over leaving voicemails, nobody answering finally someone answers the phone, same thing, we see that you pass the test, but the doctor still needs to call you read more

I've come here more than a hand full of times. Today I come in when I'm on my "8th successful donation to get $40 extra...." Get pulled into the office for them to tell me I had low protein my last blood test. Okay sure I understand that and expressed that it was my 8th donation to get this yada yada.. The nice girl in the office tells me to speak to a manager to get it extended. I ask a tech at the front and the manager she asked who was on the phone says they can't without bothering to ask of the situation or even talk to me when I asked to speak to a manager. Which is it? If I could put zero stars I would. They somehow always find a way to line me up with a new phlebotomist that has little to no experience at what they're doing. Today I was in the chair for them to take my vitals and once again they use me as a lab-rat and bring over a new phlebotomist I've never seen before ! And sure enough, she messed up my finger poke/vitals and I had to watch about 5-10 people who were originally in line behind me, go get in beds before me because they actually had phlebotomists who knew how to poke a finger and take vitals. I don't mind the fact that he/she is new, but from PERSONAL experience, they will mess up 9 times out of ten. when your working at a Panda Express, it's okay to mess up, but when I come in to get my damn SKIN and VEINS poked, I'd rather not have a phlebotomist who is STILL BEING TRAINED! If you're looking to experience stress and anxiety every time you go give plasma, this BIOLIFE is the perfect location for you. There's a WAY better location to give plasma on McDowell it's called BPL plasma, I 10/10 would recommend going there instead. read more

This place sucks. They obviously don't know how to run the operations side of things because the line is always so freaking long it's like we don't have all day for $40 okay. All the other centers seem to I have gotten it down. The longest I've ever seen the line at any of the other ones was maybe 10 people at the most. I was excited to try this place because I had given blood before and because it was at the time closer to my residence. The grand opening was on 10/17/2020. During my first visit, it was apparent management lacked confidence in providing adequate knowledge about the process. Most of the techs were pleasant but a few probably should not be working with the public. I gave a couple times and then got Covid (unrelated) and returned for a few more times. What I didn't like about this location is the fact I was denied giving plasma on 1 occasion because my oral temperature wasn't within their range but when I entered the building my forehead temperature was within an acceptable range. Either, the tech taking my vitals wrote down the wrong number or this location uses defective equipment. I returned because I was involved in a $700 monthly donation plan but as it turned out the manager (Manuel) who extended the plan due to me contracting Covid wasn't present as he said he would be and so each time I gave plasma I had to reexplain the situation. Such a hassle and very unprofessional! Lastly, about a month ago, I decided to give this place another try and on that specific day they had an emergency and delayed opening which affected my time. It's no wonder they're offering returning donors $1,000 for 8 visits to be conducted within a month time frame. They're desperate because of horrible business and management operations. This center is horrible, the staff just does not care about donors. Making an appointment is pointless you'll still have to stand in line for over an hour. I was a lapse donor back on a coupon for lapse donors and I needed a blood test done, I was unable to donate while waiting on results, they never called me back about my results so I could continue donating, I missed 4 visits and they would not refund the coupon or give me a new coupon. Attitude there is overwhelming. They direct you around like you're a dummy. Especially the front desk who takes your temp and donation time. Directing people around like she's the queen of the times. My 7th and 8th visit (of 8 visit promo) was supposed to pay (7)100 and (8)100...completing the 8 visits...after my 7th visit this morning, I was just paid 20 not 100...Manager @ Avondale, Daisy?, said my promo expired. BUT THEIR APPOINTMENT SYSTEM DIDN'T ALLOW SCHEDULING OF NEXT APPOINTMENT FOR SOMETIMES 7 or 8 DAYS due to their under-staffing/overbooking/poor management (not 2 times per week as promo requires). BIOLIFE AVONDALE ARE SCAMMERS but the techs are great. They know you can't do the 8 visits in 30 days. I used to go straight home and try and book the next appointment too- no delay. 1st off there was an assistant during my donation that did not like her job and made me feel like I had done something to offend her. Then after my donation when I was having my 15 minutes of being monitored, I did have a little bit of short breathness, which I have experienced in the past during blood donations and plasma in Chicago, during this time I also informed the nurse about my experience with the other employee. I point this out cause when I returned to donate again on Sunday I was told I was no longer a viable donor for Biolife because of my reaction after donating. To be clear my blood pressure was good and I sat there for a total of 45 minutes after donating, only had the short breathness 10 minutes after donating and it went away, it may not have been related to the donation cause I do have allergies. The nurse proceeded to tell me on Sunday that I had no recourse on this decision and that I would never be welcome to donate again at Biolife ever, I am perplexed, is this cause I complained about the employee to her on Thursday???? Again, I have had this mild side effect after donating plasma and blood in the past never severe. I was just told to drink some Gatorade and I do have bad allergies right now. This seemed like a very harsh reaction. My understanding from some other donors is this nurse is very quick to ban donors from donating. To be clear no issues with the plasma I donated, I was never rude to anyone or spoke out of turn at any time even when I was told I could never donate at Biolife again for being a little short of breath. I passed everything and then they told me because I hate my breakfast too early (I missed their protocol level by 1 hour) was disqualified and I needed to come back. This review is strictly based off 1 terrible visit. I started donating to this site a couple months ago. They seem understaffed and a lot of the attitudes by employees seem like they do not want to be there and this is every visit. Ive never complained until now. Upon checking in I unfortunately answered a question wrong. I had to wait to see (Savannah) not sure of her title. I waited for 15 min before I was cleared to donate. From the moment she had to help me her attitude was uncalled for and it set the tone for my response. 1.she told me it's not her fault I had to wait because I answered question wrong. (she is correct/but the remark did not need to be said and w her tone) 2. In front of all donors she yelled "this is voluntary..you do not have to donate"! (This remark happened because I walked out of her office and said your very pleasant w the reply so are you). So at that point she felt the need to storm out of her office and scream her remark in front of all donors and employees. Talked w manager Ryan and he seemed concern by this but the day continued. Trying to let that situation go I went on to not so pleasant staff members that gave a step by step play of my entire visit to a back office supervisor?? I know this because when calling to further my complaint I was told about my entire visit. At that point my only concern was (Savannah) and her short temper to try and humiliate a donor in front of the entire donation site. My visit continues in a chair where I waited 30 minutes before they started my donation. 3 hours of my time Im definitely getting frustrated. So when my session ends they have a trainee come over to end my donation time as I sat there for 5 minutes trying to be patient but it's to much. You take the needle out/wrap the arm and go. But I sat holding the cotton on my arm until I finally had it and took the blood pressure cuff off my arm to be told by a very rude employee " ma'am we have to do that and we know you are in a hurry"!! 1. How do you know I'm in a hurry? 2. If you new I was in a hurry why have a trainee take another 5-10 minutes knowing this day has been horrible enough? Please know I'm all for training and have the utmost respect and it was not him. These employees new the situation w their fellow employee do to gossiping and instead of working it turned into continued unpleasantness. I honestly believe they purposely prolonged my visit and it made for a terrible experience. It's very hard to write a review about the entire visit..but I would not waist my time trying if it were not serious. Unfortunately this experience needs hire management reporting do to these employees treating donors horribly. (Not just me) I'm 1 review. This donation center needs serious upper management help. I've Ignored all I've seen in prior visits but what I experienced no other should have to. We donate for research and people in need and if it was not for us these jobs would not be had. I have never been treated so horribly. I've asked for their cooperation in attaining the address to upper management w no response. I went in for my consultation and was there for an hour doing the questionnaire, gave them all my information and had my finger pricked. Then when I talk to the nurse I was told I can't donate because I have seasonal allergies and I take allergy pills. Note I don't have any symptoms besides light congestion after taking the pills. Total waste of an hour and allergies was not even on the questionnaire. Also I googled it and light allergies don't disqualify you. This place is a joke. Don't waste your time going there. read more

I honestly don't recommend this place! Not only did they not take my temperature before poking my finger, but told me I was deferred for two days just because my temp was 99. This is honestly a terrible place! Literally asked for all my information, had me waiting an hour just to be seen. Got my blood boiling!! How dare they take my blood before they check my body temperature??? Like that's so unprofessional. I already knew there was an issue the moment they had me waiting when it wasn't even busy. Horrible. Appointment was at 10:40. I got there 20 minutes early. I went through the 1st step process which was super slow. The tech Katie was definitely not a people's person. They failed to have anything on there site that they are unable to draw labs where tattoos where. Did the whole process they did a vein check and said I couldn't donate. They didn't know why they couldn't get blood where tattoos were placed. Waste of time. Well I don't recommend this place. read more
