Almost every time I have been there, I've had trouble getting paid, and every time I've been there that it wasn't a $30 payout visit (or first weekly visit), I've had to fight for the proper amount. Last time was just - so, so bad. I received a coupon on a Sunday to return after a two month break for an extra $50. i went that afternoon and donated. Two days later, on a Tuesday, i went to donate for the second time that week. They flatly refused to give me the second weekly donating fee! I was told that weeks were Monday through Sunday now, not Sunday through Saturday, when just a few weeks before it had been Sunday through Saturday. I had been in with a friend of mine and seen huge banners on the wall stating this. Grifols literally changed their policy on when a week started, and then sent out bonuses, so people would come donate thinking they'd make a little extra, and instead, we wound up making less than usual! I drove a TWO HOUR ROUND TRIP both times. I absolutely will not refer ANYONE to Grifols.

I'm so glad I took the time to do it, and Red Cross was definitely the right choice for me. I recruited my sister and sister-in-law to go with me, since they had both mentioned they'd be interested. We took Adult and Pediatric CPR and First Aid. It was $110, and it took about 4 hours online, which you had to complete before going to the two hour evening class. I grumbled about how long the online portion took, but in the end, I realized I learned a lot from those simulations and I felt very prepared for the classroom portion. Our teacher, Vertina, was just the right mix of helpful and funny, and she really knew her stuff. This is one of those things you hope you'll never need to use, but it still provides a lot of peace of mind. If you do it, I definitely recommend doing it with friends.

This is my 10th or so time being certified over the years (certifications last 2 years) and I never get tired of it. It's a lot like riding a bicycle, you may not do it all the time but when you never really forget. All the instructors I have ever met have been very knowledgeable and informative and kept the training easy, casual and comfortable. Hopefully you'll never need to use what you learn here, but in the event that you do, you can make a huge difference in the life of others.

After your first donation, you are set up an account and then you can go online and schedule your blood appointment donation. You can get reminders for your appointments and it is just so easy! Sometimes when I forget to make an appointment, they give me a call and I appreciate the reminders. You can always walk in to give a donation or look for a nearby blood drive. I like that they also test your cholesterol with every blood donation. It's a good way to make sure everything is good with your own health. Sometimes people don't realize exactly how much need there is for blood donations. Every two seconds, someone needs blood, yet less than 10% of those eligible to give blood do it. One blood donation can save up to three peoples' lives! They also have cute donation campaigns where they partner up with other community organizations like the Tulsa Zoo and they give away tickets and such.

I used to weigh 200 lb so I was paid $50 because they could take more blood, but then I lost weight so now I am only paid $45 but that's ok. Basically if you're big this gig is to your advantage. It's best to come in early so you don't have to wait long. The staff has almost always been competent and polite. Sometimes some have been grumpy. One time there was a complication and I started bleeding under my skin and my forearms became tingly and numb and I almost passed out. But I also was dizzy because I had wine the night before and you're not supposed to do that. They took good care of me after that though. Put my feet up, gave me ice packs and a Gatorade. Also one time right after I told an employee I'm musician and asked if she could maybe prick me at an angle that won't interfere with my practice sessions, she pricked me so hard I was bruised for days. So that was sweet. That was the same day I almost passed out. Basically the place looks shady but they do their job so you shouldn't worry about anything. I still like it better than Biolife, which I could never get scheduled into. It was a huge pain. CSL is much better for me and great if you're unemployed because you can come in the am on a work day and no one will be there.

I have also donated blood twice. I started this journey in July 2025. They are all so thankful to have you there and will help keep you comfortable during the process. They care about their donors. The facility seems older, but is clean. After donation they always have a good variety of snacks and beverages waiting for you. The other fun thing is the American Red Cross gives little gifts to all donors. I recommend signing up for the app. It shows you your Mini health screening results gives you points to redeem for more prizes and even tells you where your blood has traveled!
