I have been coming to Grifols in lake balboa for about 7 years now and I enjoy coming here. Super clean and friendly staff. Efrain(hope I spelled it right, don't hate me if I did lol) is one of my faves from here but there is many more staff That I enjoy seeing at Grifols they always make my donation go nice and smooth. For the first time applicants you should expect to wait approximately 5-6 hours to sign up for donations. For that reason I would recommend places with faster process taking new donors. They have good stuff working there. Plenty of parking and snack vending machines inside. For the second time going the wait time was not bad, less than an hour. But this time I've experience kinda of a line cook takin blood samples from me rather than professional nurse with the right approach. Person was trying to make everything fast. Seems to me it's very unprofessional behavior. Would not want to be helped by the same person again. read more

I called at 9:30 AM and was told the whole process might take "up to 6 hours". Wrong. After waiting 4 hours - 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM - I was told I might be there for 10 hours before completing the process. 10 hours. Best of all, they said this was a 'slow day'. New patients, you can expect to wait 10 hours your 1st visit. Good luck with that. * Fun fact - they say they will only let you donate if you've had a meal in the last 3-4 hours, so they might actually reject you because they kept you waiting so long that you stopped being healthy enough to donate. read more

I have already been on this page once with a complaint and i was given a number for what i assume is their corporate customer service line. For a while i was happy because i thought things were being fixed but nope. Once it went back into the hands of management from this location i am once again being given the run around. They robbed me of money i rightfully earned and now i no longer wish to donate at this plasma sight or any other. Biomat on Vanowen is a lousy plasma center. Yes.. they do pay once you jump through all the hoops (one time told to bring this kind of proof of address... then next time told that one isn't allowed and so on... ) but they treat you like a disposable resource rather than a human being. Rude staff, poor flebotamists [if you let the iodine dry it doesn't burn your patients arm...duh] and arbitrary registration processes....I highly, highly suggest anyone looking to donate go somewhere else. read more

I tried to come donate plasma today, but wasn't able due to getting acupuncture. If you get this done like I do on a regular basis, you have to wait 4 months from the last time you had it done. You also need a license from the facility you get it done at. Bummer, I was trying to give back to the community, and got turned away. The place was clean and employees were super friendly. Not sure on wait time, since I was only there 15 minutes before I was told I could not donate. At least I am in the system for when I ever do try again. Sorry but cant give up my acupuncture appointments anytime soon. Decent place though. read more

So Grifols/Biomat (same company) reported my prior review for lack of details with this location specifically. So, here is my review with further details. As a fairly new "donor" to this location I have found has much faster procedures the KedPlasma/Grifols (KedPlasma bought out Grifols apparently) down the street. Also cleaner and more comfortable. Additionally, the equipment seem more efficient, saving time. It is annoying that they have equipment directly on the counter space of which you are suppose to be going through vitals with the front end screening staff. That was a poor design. Teresa at this location is great. Very attentive and eager to find answers to individual and mutual concerns. Expect to feel drained of energy. "Donating" will interfere with your lifestyle for the day. You won't be able to go to the gym afterwards or do anything active. Don't go before work. Don't go if you have children to care for once you're home. You'll simply be too low on energy. So, I find visiting at the end of the day best. I don't feel the pay is sufficient. I had a talk with management (tall, blonde gentleman - So sorry, I've forgotten your name.) expressing my concern with how the industry gets around the Anatomical Gift Act, which states people can not be paid for their bodily parts or fluids. He expressed the industry's idea is that they are paying you for your time. However, we know this not to be true because, 1 - you don't get paid if you show'd up checked in but then are informed you can't donate for any particular reason, 2 - the time you spend their varies on each visit, 3 - your time requires you to provide them your plasma. If you go their to provide time to them, you don't get paid if you don't provide plasma. I expressed this is how government and the medical/pharma community manipulates the system. I further explained that when a person dies, their family takes ownership of their remains. When hospitals and and Organ Harvesting Procurement Organizations take our property and keeps it for any given time, they do not compensate us for utilizing our property for a time. We also discussed the fact that the demographics who donate are largely comprised of people in need of the money. They are not their out of the desire to "gift the gift of life". Therefore, semantics with language and manipulation of facts does not change the facts. "Donors" are not donors. "Donors" are production agents of plasma, paid for their product. Of course, management and I do not expect to agree. When "donors" learn this, perhaps payment for our product payment will increase. Or perhaps enough noise can be made to start compensating families for the organ donations of their loved ones. After all, it's their product. I also mentioned I recently learned that "human glue" is made out of plasma protein. It is commonly used in elective, cosmetic procedures such as face lifts. Therefore, I asked if Grifols/Biomat produces this product or sells our plasma to other business of which make this product or any products used for elective procedure (in other words, non-life-saving products). The gentleman did not have an answer but said he would inquire, which I appreciate. I bring this up because this is certainly not "the gift of life", right? This is purely for profit. I find there to be a serious ethical issue with this when plasma companies tout donors are donating for the purposes of saving lives. If in fact, plasma is being used for anything other than life improving or life saving medications, donors must be informed. And certainly they should be compensated far more if the Beverly Hills House Wives are paying big money for the benefits of our bodily fluids. I'd also like to know if plasma is sold for the purposes of "plasma facials". It's a manipulative industry in some aspects. Though it does bring about a lot of good for medicine. And that's not to say those employed by the industry are not good people, providing a positive experience otherwise. The employees here have always been efficient, friendly and helpful. read more

Their pay rates change regularly and could increase after you no longer qualify. Also, their donation rates are not cumulative. If you don't donate in the same month, they will reset back what they compensate, but do not make this known to the donors. read more

Last few times I went there they were very rude, they smile to your face but soon as you turn around they make faces and begin to whisper and I asume, talking bad about oneself. Is the only thing comes to mind when they wisper and look on your direction with a partial smile on their face. specially or mostly hispanics. TOTALLY UNPROFESSIONAL! They have send me back because my blood pressure is "one point over regular" presure or because my "temperature is a little cold "from driking cold water. And they say to oneself you were driking cold water, hu? And yes , of course, it is the response but they won't allow to retake temperature they said is automatically disqualifies from donating that day until next. But lately the excuse they have or the response is that I have to get a medical exam or that they need to withdraw blood and have it analized. I notice that the people that have been going there the longest they do everything they can to get them out and get new people. SO YOU GET BLOOD DRAINED WITHOUT ANY PAY ! AND NO PRIOR NOTICE, YOU MAY HAVE TO GO HOPING TO GET YOUR MONEY, BUT AT THE END, JUST BLOOD WITHDRAWED AND NOTHING ON YOUR POCKETS, ALSO, WASTE OF TIME, AT LEAST, 4 HOURS ! And of course, there is NO BONUS $$ AT THE END OF THE MONTH! as they advertise on their ADDS And on the internet!FALSE ADVERTISING, LIARS! I feel they are very judgemental and definitely, It is a torture going there. I didn't care about the needle or the time u have to lay there to donate, but the shity attitude from female employees make you feel very UNCOMFORTABLE, and if you dont talk nice to them they treat you diferent in a negative way. Of course it is not a proud day when circumstances bring you to sell your plasma to any plasma center, but I found myself desperate enough for cash that I did just that- sold my plasma - for what I consider a pittance, compared to what it costs me. While I do resent the company somewhat for exploiting desperate folk like myself, considering a donor is paid $50.00 to spend approximately an hour and a half at the center, with a large needle in their arm, having blood remove from them; then when the plasma is separated from the red blood, the nutrient depleted red cells are returned to the donor, and the nutrient rich plasma is processed and sold for over $1000.00 in most cases. I hate doing this to my body. I am 66 years old, not a drug addict or alcoholic, but the process wears me out. Afterwards, I am dizzy, weak, and short of breath for several hours, and not much use for that time. And I am parting with some of my essence or essential life source every time. My skin is aging due to the fluid depletion this process causes. But sometimes I really need $50.00, like Yesterday. However, after donating i went to B of A to withdraw the money so I can eat, buy water to drink, and put gas in my car, and the money was not deposited. I called the center, no answer. I called the bank - they informed me there was no pending deposit. I went back to the center - they had locked up. You see, I really needed this money. I needed it to eat and hydrate and opuyt gas in my car. And - I haven't been able to reach anyone at Biomat, nor has anyone returned my calls or my emails. I feel that people should know of this practice. To exploit people is a sin. To steal from people to enrich yourself is a crime. read more

Drove about an hour away to check out this place. First impression it was easy to find, second impression was the parking lot kinda suck I mean there are parking but the space to back out is small and cramp. When you first walk in it's clean, but no on greeted me. I wasn't sure what to do, so I ended up asking someone,she was helpful. One of the girl at the front desk who was checking for my vein kinda made be doubt the place and uneasy as it seems like she couldn't find the vein and had to call someone over to check..(total different person in the back who drawn the plasma) If you don't get here early and you're a first timer expect to be here for almost 3 hours. Over all, the experience and donation was great they walk you through everything and explain the process and what they are doing. read more

I called at 1230 to see what I needed to do as a retuning donor who hasn't donated in over a year, then went in at 4. On the phone I was informed I needed to do the physical again and bring my IDs but didn't need to make an appointment. When I went in, the man I talked to told me I couldn't start the process today because they stopped doing new donors at 3. They're opened till 7 and it's 4 but "we're losing staff and there's other new donors ahead of you who have been here for some time". I'm also a teacher who works till 3 so getting there at 3 is difficult with traffic. I was also not told that at all when I called at 1230. The man who helped me was condescending in his attempt to be "helpful" and not empathic at all which made this situation more annoying. It's not that difficult to mention they might stop new donors at a certain time. read more

New phlebotomist stuck me. Didn't ask for help when she was unsure. I had so much faith in the staff with maybe one or two small mishaps but this was ridiculous. The return pressure was high a senior said but it took somebody five minutes to tend to me when I was in pain with blood dripping on my arm. Idk if the bruisings getting worse or just on its way to healing but it s so ugly and embarrassing to look at and it's unbearably sore. I had to call off work. I urge donors to be vigilant when coming here. Ask all the questions you need and make sure your phlebotomist knows what they're doing. This was my last donation. read more

I came in to the center as a first time donor. While doing the pre-testing diagnostics the woman on station 4 did not sheath the thermometer probe prior to putting it in my mouth. The center insisted that the probe was clean, and was refusing to do an incident report or give me a copy of it. They further provided no instructions as to how to deal with this exposure to biological material. Universal precautions were not followed and I am concerned that the center was not taking this issue seriously. Further instead of following an exposure protocol they said that I should contact my family doctor. (They would need to test that probe and do an incident report and have a specific exposure protocol in case of exposing donors to biological material). I have filed a complaint w management and the HQ and waiting for an appropriate resolution. read more

Nice and Friendly staff and a very clean establishment. However it can be fricken miserable donating here. It's ridiculously cold inside. So not only do I make an appointment for 2:45 and not get hooked up until almost 4:30, I'm shivering for 2-3 hours, and then having a thick needle in my arm for half that time. It's unnecessarily cold and Fridays are the worst days to donate. They're understaffed. You'll spend at LEAST an extra hour here than other days throughout the week. I come here on a regular basis and always enjoy seeing friendly faces and at times just having a chat with a fellow donor. It is a clean and open environment with comfortable lounges that do recline . You don't need a private room to simply give plasma, besides the time goes by quickly as you read, study or whatever you need to do with one hand free. The people that I see who come here to donate are decent and respectable and either friendly or just the quiet type which is fine either way. You'll feel comfortable once you get into your visit/routine as i did. * In response to these 2 people below who are obviously just plain ignorant as you can easily tell. They don't know anything more than what they think, if even that...how stupid ! It really sounds made up to me! I have been coming here for over 2 years now (today is 8/18/13) and if it seemed even slightly ghetto i would never came back - Period. Now thats the real truth without being a crybaby about it! I say go to another location and you will know what ghetto is and that will shut you both up quick! There has never been any drama or problem all the times I've gone and i feel completely safe so I don't even worry about it. IT IS A SAFE ENVIRONMENT. The staff is great and friendly and you easily become acquainted with each one on a professional level and i appreciate that. Also its not a typical cold type of environment. I'm always welcomed as i enter and vice'a when i leave. So my overall experience there has been very good and even though i have had some great days and some hard days in donating, and that was always my fault for not being "hydrated" enough so it can flow smoothly as i found out, with no fault to the staff. That no longer happens! Pertaining to handling blood products. They really do take our safety serious and the safety of others who receive our plasma as well. So donating good safe plasma is always a high priority with the pre-donation screening process and that makes me personally feel reassured that I'm in good hands hereas are others. Before I go much further, you REALLY gotta take advantage of their New Donor program, which could be for a limited time only-- FIFTY DOLLARS for your first FIVE donations!!! ARE YOU EFFING KIDDING ME?!? I'm so used to donating blood at the American Red Cross for free. Not that this is about the money at ALL, but considering what a chunk out of your time it can be to do the questionnaire and mini-physical each time on top of every donation you spend strapped into these beds, Grifols really goes the Extra Mile to treat their donors like royalty! Ok now that we have $$$ out of the way (btw you get $30 for your first donation of the week and $40 for the second donation of the week after your first five visits, and you can ONLY donate twice a week... I have seen donation centers where there may be a few blood droplets still staining the floor or just plain packed with crackheads looking to sell a few pints for their next bottle of crack ----EWWW, lololol---- but you would be hard-pressed to even find a hint of DUST at this BRAND NEW facility. Which means anyone who comes through the doors to donate has been THOROUGHLY screened, the aspheresis machines are state-of-the-art, and the beds are PAINSTAKINGLY sterilized between donors. Even more impressive are the widescreen HD TVs installed so you can pass the time with some of today's best blockbusters if you forgot to bring a book or prefer to stay the eff off your smartphone ;-) I mean, is this place a medical facility or a day spa? COME ON lolololol!!! And then, of course, the staff is preeeeeetty much just like you and me... Fun-loving, jovial, hard-working souls... But they're also just SO damn good at their various fields of expertise that sometimes I DIDNT EVEN REALIZE they stuck me with a needle yet! I'm like, WHAT?!? I donated plasma for my first time at this Biomat location and had a great experience. I was there for a total of 3 1/2 hrs, which I expected, because it was my first time so I had to fill out paperwork, get screened, get a physical, etc. The actual donation process took a little longer for me, but a staff member mentioned that it may have been because it was my first time and my body was adjusting to the needles, etc. All things considered, it moved along pretty quickly. The facility was very clean, all of the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Everyone was very thorough in explaining all of the procedures and in answering any questions that I had. They even gave me tips on how to improve my plasma for future visits. I also received a welcome bag with brochures, a water bottle, and squeezy ball of my own. The payment process is very easy - you're given a prepaid debit card that's automatically reloaded with each successful donation. It's great to know that I'm helping others out, but also able to make some spare cash. I will definitely be back again! read more

My first time took 5 hours and I saw people who signed in after me get helped before me. They also forgot to give me my ID and social security card back. I dont like that my social is my patient ID number. The nurse who helped me (Hope, I think) was very nice. The place itself appears clean but by 11am all the female toilets outside were clogged. Also while I was waiting people had loud conversations about crack bags and how they cant believe that they were told not to drink.... Just very loud. read more

This place is not "ghetto". The person who wrote that was probably clueless as to how many levels of safety this center has to adhere to. So, yes, initially personal questions are asked to guage the person's risk of transmitting a disease through a tainted donation. However, this would have either happened on the computer screen or in one of the check up rooms where you have a physical. I have been coming here since I joined the HBIG program in October 2005. I've been donating almost consistently since Jan. '06. That was when they were less than half their current size with only eight beds in a circle. Alas, I miss the free snacks and juice but they were first on the chopping block. This place is immaculately clean and the staff is professional. I have to admit that the blood pressure taking does have me standing with an unusual posture and i'm at the higher end of normal although mostly fine. For the record, they used to do the questions, BP, and finger stick in a private room while sitting in a chair (just like Ralphs). This method took longer, around 10 - 15 minutes and there were only two rooms to use at the time. Donors became more numerous and this method was really bottlenecking the whole donation process. I used to be in and out in just under two hours but it soon became three as they were growing with donors. The expansion came as a result of this along with that computer based screening and the standing BP monitoring. In short, don't believe what the "ghetto" guy wrote. The nurse was really awesome!! The first appointment takes a long long long time though. They use a 17g needle! Seems a little excessive. ‍ But everyone was friendly, including the other donors, and the pay was good as well. I had an adverse reaction to to the sodium citrate that mixes back in with your red blood cells that are infused back in intravenously. I read that it is more likely to happen if the sodium citrate is entering your body in a large amount too quickly. They slowed it down for me but I did continue to have a reaction, just not as major as the initial one. If it were a smaller needle than a 17g it would probably help to reduce that reaction. read more

I was not a fan of this place. I'm sure they have to adhere to very strict safety protocols, but I left within 10 minutes of being here because I just didn't feel right at all. The "doctors" or nurses, or whatever they were, felt more like 25 year old salespeople trying to get your business - i.e. lifejuices - than anything else. The clientele truly are from the pit, though I guess that's what to expect when you're in the valley donating fluids for $25-30, as altruistic people will generally just go to a hospital to donate blood. I also agree with the person "Truth M." who wrote about there being no privacy... it feels like a factory for sucking out materials rather than a medical facility. The entire place is one open room, and the hobos waiting for their donation are very near you as you're sitting in your reclined chair 20 feet away. I'm not saying you shouldn't donate plasma, I think it's great, I just would advise you to go elsewhere. read more

Not to mention Kim V., Mario, Jessica, Grazie, Nessa, Robert, Wendy, Myriam, Esther, Vern, Eduardo, Rhiana, Kerby, Hong and all the rest are very helpful and polite to everyone.
