This course has multiple problems. It has been run into the ground. It is not being maintained. It's the worst marked up greens I've ever seen anywhere. There is goose shit all over the greens. Weeds all over the fairways. Now let's add the attitude of the bar people. Never been made to feel so stupid just cause I wanted a beer and some ice. This used to be a decent course. It's done. Birch Hills is my favorite course to play. I have been playing at Birch Hills since 1982. it is a short course but fun to play.

Came here for the first time played 18 holes with a good friend. Great positive energy from all over the place. The staff was really friendly and the food was really good I got their normal burger and my friend got the bbq bacon burger. The patty was so juicy placed on a brioche bun, and the fries were cooked to perfection which made it crispy. You can go up to the drive thru and order your food there as well. Also, you can take your food and drinks with you on the course. There is an employee that drives around in a golf cart full of drinks and snacks. She was super friendly and helpful. Always have a good experience here. Not a championship course but some good par 4s to get ur driver out and always in good shape. It exceeds my expectations for value and conditions. Place is clean and all the employees are nice. Pace is always good, it backs up in the first par 4 but normally wide open after that. The driving range is nicer than most (balls r a little tired) but nice range with mats etc. cool little counter bar with more seating inside and patio for at least 20 or more. Conditions are understandably struggling; no problem. Sundays will always be a little more crowded than usual; no problem. But when 5 full groups are stacked on hole 6 by 10am, that's completely unacceptable! Play had been slowing down over the years to +/- 3 hours and seems to have hit rock bottom. read more

Birch Hills Golf Course - Close one! - Golf Near Me - Brea, California

I have been play here about twice a week for the past two years. Here are the pros & cons I have made note of... Pros: 1.) low rates- the lowest I've ever paid was $10 for twilight rate I was able to get 14 holes in which is not bad at all 2.) short 18 which is good for practice, walkable if you want to save $ or want the exercise. Not too many hills unlike Fullerton 3.) depends on who is working, they do have some friendly staff members. Don the marshal is friendly so is Fernando. 3.) there is a practice range, putting and chipping area. (Some courses do not have a range, like Dos Lagos) 4.) Ample parking Cons: 1.) The range is hardly open because the design of it allows for puddles of mud to collect right in the middle, having the range balls get stuck. The picker machine cannot pick them up due to the mud. Or the range could be closed because they did not have staff working to pick up the range balls. In addition, the range balls are the most worn out I've ever seen. There is no sun protection at the range, so bring a hat and sunscreen if you're hitting in the afternoon. 2.) They !!!NEVER EVER!!! Answer the phone. So do not bother calling. Press 1 for tee times, 2 for the clubhouse, 3 to order food and 4 for the manager. The only one who answers from all these options, is when you press 1, because the call diverts to a call center somewhere outside of the US. 3.) if you have an early tee time on the weekends 0600 hours, good luck. A younger gentleman has the key and if he had a long night the day before, he usually shows up late with a line of people waiting on him. It's hit or miss, there have been times when we waited 15-20 mins for him to open, sometimes 5 mins. 4.) course conditions are very muddy in certain areas of the golf course. It's even worse if there was rain during the week. I believe it has a lot to do with overwatering. There is also geese poop throughout the whole golf course. Bunkers are hard sand. Divots all over the tee boxes 5.) if you're a member make sure they give you your points when making purchases. I had to remind certain staff members 6,) You cannot check in unless 15-20 mins before your tee time, so they can avoid you sneaking in early onto course. read more

Went to Birch Hills Golf Course to use the practice facilities and I'm very disappointed. The driving range mats are so old and worn out, balls are terrible and no putting green next to the driving range. They have the space but they left it as a grass area with no use. Be aware that you will be paired up with random people during this pandemic. 3 months ago this would have been fine but it doesn't seem appropriate yet. Employees were wearing masks but very few visitors were wearing any PPE. I planned on playing the course but when we saw we were paired with an elderly couple, it didn't feel appropriate given the current Covid situation. I went back to the pro shop to request a refund and explained how we didn't feel safe or comfortable at this time to be paired with another group. Instead of being understanding, I was immediately told no, that's golf, and that I should have known it would be crowded and busy in the morning. This instant aggression caught me off guard and I had to reexplain how I still didn't feel safe. After being ridiculed from the staff I eventually did get refunded. For the sake of everyone's safety, stick to other courses in the area that are enforcing stricter policies in order to ensure safety of their guests. On a positive note, I did observe staff sanitizing golf balls for the driving range and the course had social distancing signage. read more

I played this course before it was renovated years ago. This is my first time playing here after all the reconstruction and closure. Lots of changes. Grass looks great, holes are somewhat challenging. Biggest thing I had an issue with was where all the holes were now compared to how it was positioned years ago. The management of the range is terrible which is disappointing since it's really a nice layout. I'm a member, but don't think I'll renew next year. Honestly, about 60% of the time I go to the range, they only offer small buckets. They always have an excuse as to why they only have small buckets which is unacceptable. Why am I even a member, this is one of the perks, right?Birch Hills, you should always have balls to hit! That's like going to a restaurant where 60% of the menu is unavailable. How about you just order the product? Secondly, the balls are absolute JUNK!!! The course lacks sustained maintenance. The price is very cheap for what you get. The greens and grass surrounding the greens is poorly kept. The Course marshals are always trying to hurry you along even when there are waiting people in front of you and no one behind you. I find this very annoying. This course takes 3.5 hours for the average golfer. The marshal keeps telling us it should take 2 .5 hours... How ever it's cheap so I use it for practice. read more

The woman who administers the front desk is extremely unprofessional and provides no guidance as to what service she can provide to accommodate customers. I called to see when the driving range was closed and her answers were far from helpful not to mention her lack of hospitality, exhibiting rude and ill mannered behavior this employee should be removed and placed on leave if not fired. I went golfing with some family on Monday January 8th. We had a great time and the course was pretty. We returned our golf carts around 4:30pm. Unfortunately, we left our Callaway Range Finder in golf cart 9. I have been trying to reach their general manager every single day and I even came in. I immediately called around 6:30pm the same day when we realized we left it behind. I was told to call back tomorrow. The next day I had to call back six times in order to get a hold of anyone. I eventually got a hold of Nellie and she checked the lost of found for me and even cart 9. She informed me that she could not find it but the golf cart has been in charging so an employee must of grabbed it. She told me she would call me back after she talks to the night crew and hung up before even getting my phone number. I called back later Tuesday, Thursday and now Friday. I even went in on Wednesday because I was told she would be in but she was not. I was immediately told they can't do anything and to wait for Nellie. I have left her several voicemails with my phone number and I still have not heard anything. I am very disappointed to think one of the employees may have stole the item rather than putting it in the lost and found bin. I have called many times and I asked if they could check the cameras. The item is worth about $300 and I will admit it was our fault leaving it behind but I am incredibly disappointed in the way they are handling this situation. read more

It had been a couple of years since I had played golf and even longer since I played Birch Hills. But, since being recently semi-retired figured I would start hitting the links again. Now that I'm living in the OC thought I'd check it out again. As I remember it was an Executive Nine and a good place to practice your short game. So I was quite surprised to know that it had become a Executive 18 now. As arrived I was taken by the aesthetics and how nice everything had been remodeled to included the improved parking lot. The club house was nicely redone and although not quite in full setup as it can be, I'm sure in terms of COVID. The staff from the folks behind the front desk to the starter were very congenial and helpful. The course itself is nicely laid out and although some of the Par 3's are a little short from 80-100 yards. That being said there are a couple of decent Par 4's and a couple holes with water hazards which were good in terms of a challenges. The condition of the fairways and greens was good, but could be better if golfers minded proper golf etiquette, fixing divots and ball marks on the greens. The tee boxes also would be better served if the grounds keeper placed receptacles for broken tees and other debris nearby. Also, our game would of went smoother if there were yardage makers in the fairways. Overall they rate 5 stars for the vast improvements and the fun had by all in our group at this nice little course. Had a tee time booked for a Sunday morning, only to find out that one of the slowest/rudest men's clubs I've encountered were playing. Took them 2.5 hours to get through the first tee and, naturally, everyone else playing bunched up behind them. 4-5 groups waiting at every teebox - tee times squeezed in too close together. A real shame, because the course itself seemed well maintained - decent greens, fairways in good condition, although the teeboxes could use some love. Better course/play management would bump this to a 3.5 star. read more

Worst run, least helpful golf course I've been to in a long time. Asked if I could wait as a single...said we don't have any openings. Asked 'is there a wait list'. Answer ''no'. 'So can I be added to their group if their 4th doesn't show' ... says no he might show late when they're on course and that would make it a 5!! I asked but if he doesn't show on first?? Have played this course many times and it's a fun executive course and great for your short game. Greens are in decent shape, wish golfers would repair their pitch marks, and the tee boxes were good. Pace of play was good on 1/7/2020 so that's always fun. Can get a little slow out there on occasion. Tree House grill has excellent food, although the Tacos I had while tasty, were a little skimpy in filling. Peggy did an good job on taking our order and getting our food out to us in a timely fashion. I will continue to play and eat at Birch Hills. read more

Great time at this course. Simple check in and start, fun and challenging course that's aimed at beginners. That 13 dog leg is a beast. Only issue I had was with the tee boxes and the quality of the grass. Very tough to hit off hard dirt/short weeds/choppy grass. Got through all 18 in about 3.5 hrs. Check em out and have a good time. I've been playing golf off and on for the past ten or so years but recently decided to take it up again and really practice. I knew of Birch Hills because it's close to where I live. I reached out to the golf pro and inquired about some lessons. I've had awful or just flakey instructors in the past so I was a little anxious before reaching out, but as soon as I spoke with Jeanne I immediately felt better. The staff at Birch Hills are very friendly and welcoming. I've now been working with Jeanne for almost three months. I purchased a 6 pack of private lessons. To say Jeanne is amazing would be an understatement. Jeanne's teaching approach is to find out how her students best absorb information and then cater to their learning style. She has a wonderful ability to make her students feel at ease and learn to love the game of golf. If you're looking for a course and instructor to just tell you how to hit a driver then this isn't the place. You'll start with the pitching wedge and work your way through putting and so forth. I always look forward to my lessons with Jeanne because I know I'll get to laugh while I'm learning. While Jeanne is a professional, she never rubs it in. What I like best is that when I make a mistake (quite often, i.e. not letting my left arm lead or moving my back foot...), Jeanne will "mirror" what I did wrong so I can see the mistake and how it impacts the shot. I can't write enough about how lucky Birch Hills is to have Jeanne. She's a wonderful mentor and friend. I'm proud to be part of Jeanne's TPG...Tall Pretty Golfer...group! read more

My husband and I went on a date to the golf course. We had dinner then hit the range after. I ordered a hamburger which was great, delicious. I give the food 4 stars because my husband ordered from off the smoker, which was pull pork. It was a little dry and the portion was small. He preferred to eat my burger, so I shared. After, I had to reach for the clubs myself. You go into this closet and pick your golf club of your choice. It was our first time going to a golf range so we just tried a few of them. There was karaoke that night. We enjoyed the vibe and listening to people sing their heart out. They have games you can play as well while you're at the tables. The employees are very polite and helpful. A gentleman that was working on the golf range was very nice and provided us with his own personal bag of tees. Today I enjoyed a round of golf with friends at the Birch Hills Golf Course. It was a really nice 18-hole executive course with a few par-4 holes. The greens offered a challenging read and were often not at the same level of the tee boxes. The greens were protected with bunkers and a few holes were near water hazards. We were playing after some recent rain and were able to use carts on the cart path only and this did not overly delay the game. We did see some golfers hopping around holes and jumping back and forth throughout the day and there were no course marshals (that's par for the course these days). Overall, it was an enjoyable and challenging day of golf. read more
