It's a golf course that I enjoy for short game practice, and I'm always satisfied with the beautiful nature and clean and dynamic course.

I was very happy with the course conditions and help from the starter .. I showed up about 45 min early before my set tee time thinking I'll hit a bucket to kill time but he was able to work it out if I was willing to get me out sooner. The course condition were good all the way around. Greens looked and felt great. Got paired up with some cool dudes and I couldn't have been happier with the pace of play. Awesome time read more

I had high hopes for this place since it is so close...but I probably won't be back all that often for a number of reasons. It's not bad if you just want to get out on a course, but if you are like me and actually want to practice and get better....eh. The back 9 is much more interesting than the front 9 in my opinion (still not saying much though). As far as "PGA quality" goes...you don't have to play TPC courses and country clubs all the time to know that this isn't a very nice course. A lot of the better reviews seem to be for things other than the actual golf course. Here is the good and bad for me. The Good: -The price is reasonable and the course is easily walkable -So short yardage wise that it makes you feel like you are better at golf than you probably are The Bad: -The tee boxes are so dry and hard that you can barely put a tee into the ground..makes it very hard to swing properly on all of the par 3's. How am I supposed to hit a decent wedge shot if I can't even make a divot or get my tee all the way down? I know it is SoCal and water is in demand but why bother? -Some of the holes are a bit of a joke...get ready for a lot of weird half wedge shots on the par 3's. There are some longer ones though. -Greens are bumpy and kinda slow...you never know what you are going to get when you hit a putt. read more

New pro shop guy is super rude. Course is not in the best shape. Grounds crew and sprinklers always on when your trying to play. Course is ok, greens are nice except that for some unknown reason very few golfers repair their divots. Overall a c- but the guy behind the cash register gets an F. Played the course last Sunday afternoon. The course conditions are horrible. Tee boxes are sand traps, fairways are spotty at best. The greens are torn up, now this may have something to do with players having no respect for the green - not repairing ball marks and dragging pull carts accros them - actual wheel marks on the surface. I realize these are strange times, but there seems to have been no efforts to keep the course in playing condition. I love the layout and have enjoyed this course in the past, but it will be a long time before I play it again. read more

Great course for lots of approach shots and even where you can air it out with your driver. Great staff and enjoyed our pairing with another twosome. Had not played there since before closure and remodeling. Nice water holes in the townhome areas. We will be back. read more

Great service at the club house! One of my favorite local courses, only a few miles down the road from my place and very convenient being located down the street from Golf Galaxy for any last minute gear before a game. Today was my second time playing at Birch Hills. Both experiences have been fabulous. I joined their rewards program. Every staff member was beyond friendly and helpful!! I paid for my round and went to a different location to pick up my cart. Being that I'm a single golfer... joining another group, the gentlemen who were at the cart pickup made sure I was able to find my group. The course is really nice. Being a relatively new golfer, I worked on my club choice, sand traps, and short game. This is a perfect place to play a round of 18 holes in about 3 hours. Many people play 9 holes. Some of the greens were perfect. Some of the greens were not so good. Overall the greens were tricky. Bunkers were frustratingly inconsistent. Tees were perfect over seeded Rye. Thank you Adam D! I took your recommendation and came back on Superbowl Sunday to try some of your new menu items. The Samurai Dog was amazing and it paired very well with my favorite IPA you have on tap (Elysian Space Dust)! The Corn Chowder was super yummy... if there was anything I would have changed would be the Edamame & Corn salad could use a meat option such as chicken to make it into a meal. Overall I would give this course 4 out of 5, this course has some of the best greens in orange county, however this won't last because golfers are not monitored and divot repair is not being practiced, the course has recently been re-routed and the old GPS is still in effect, on the positive side starters and pro shop people are very friendly and make you feel welcomed read more

Today was the first day I EVER played a round of golf and I'm so happy I started at Birch Hills. In my opinion this is a great course for anyone that is starting to pick up this addicting sport. It all started when I checked in. The gentleman at the register (so sorry I didn't catch your name) welcomed me and got us started, pointed us to a golf cart and we were on our way. The one that really made our day was Wayne, our starter. We talked for a little bit and just had a good vibe. From that point it was game on. First the course over all was well kept: nice green, nice trail, it was all good. What I really liked was it was called and executive course which I guess means it was small course with mostly par 3s, which was totally fine with me. The only thing that got me was that one of the holes, I think it was 13, didn't have a sign and I just passed it. But other than that, this is a great course with a great staff. Trying to see where I can free up some time so I can go again. Keep up the great work read more

Birch Hills is a fun course with varying degrees of difficulty on fairways and greens. Some muddy areas and dirt patches in front of greens l need addressing. The staff is unfailingly professional and helpful. Their restaurant goes out if its way to please. Interesting menu well prepared. read more

I would give this course a 5, except for two glaring issues. There are some turf conditions related to out of control watering. I have only moderate experience with watering systems, but I know I could regulate the water much better than it currently is being done. I don't know why management doesn't take charge of this. There are so many locations on the course that have pooling water, casual water, deep mud, and very slippery slopes. Today I almost fell three times just walking up and down slopes. The other issue is the sand traps. First of all, I know with Covid19, there are no rakes out, so free relief is being given. But even before Covid19 there was not enough sand. It was mostly a very thin layer of little rocks mixed with dirt, hard pan just underneath, and very difficult to play out of. Some bunkers even have partially or completely exposed drainage tubes that impede play. How hard could it be to add some sand? Every other of the 50 golf courses I play do a significantly better job maintaining the bunkers and monitoring and adjusting the watering. All that being said, I love the layout, it generally plays fairly quickly, has challenges for the advanced player, but is completely accessible to beginners. The employees in the clubhouse are fantastic. The men's club is super active and has a bunch of really great guys. Fix these two issues and I'll love this course even more!!! Fair enough? read more

I love Birch Hills Golf Course early in the day! The course is constantly being improved, upgraded and beautified. The birds, ducks and geese that were messing up the course are gone, the grass is filling in nicely where there were bare spots and the sand traps are greatly improved. There is compacted sand with a light coating of loose sand on top, making for an easy out...love it! It takes me 1-1/2 to 2 hours to play 18 holes by myself, which I love! The folks that work there are really great, friendly and very accommodating. Highly recommend joining the club and becoming a member as the rates are very reasonable, with early tee times available, and access to advance reservations on line. Don't come to this range if you want to be treated like crap and waste your time. I've never left a bad review about anywhere on Yelp so I'm not just one of those haters. We came to their range on a Wednesday night. Arrived around 6:30(website said that last call for range balls was 8:45). Their ball collecting cart was broken and the gentleman trying to get it to work were really nice. They told us 15-20 minutes so we grabbed a beer from the clubhouse and patiently waited. It took a little longer but oh well. The lady from the clubhouse came out grabbed a bucket of balls for the other people waiting and walked right passed us. They dumped an entire trash can of balls in the ball dispenser. We walked up to the club house to pay for balls and the women at the club house was insanely rude and turned away my husband. I walked in the club house to explain that we waited 30 minutes for range balls and she was extremely rude and refused to sell us any range balls. Oh and the range was half empty, everyone else had balls, and her excuse was that "all the balls would go too fast so she couldn't sell anymore". Watched her turn away three more couples before we gave up and left. read more

I've come here a few times with my buddy. It was a pleasant experience until we ran into a rude employee. He's a a heavy guy it wasn't Don. I had a tee time at 7:15 am. You know when you set a tee time you expect it to be more or less around that time. It's 7:48 and I'm still waiting for 2 more groups to go, at this rate I'll teeing off an hour later. I hope to get some type of refund this isn't fair. The guy who was taking care of the tee time let 20 people which was about 5 groups go ahead of us. I was working across the street while this golf course was under construction and what they've done with this place is great. Their new clubhouse is modern with plenty of natural light and large entrance openings. The driving range is pretty sizable, although I was confused with the distance markers. The parking lot is pretty sizable. The course itself is pretty diverse and in great condition. The greens are smooth and there's even water hazards on some holes. I would say this is a great spot for beginners and intermediate players. The service here is very good. The clubhouse workers are very friendly. They even gave me a free bucket of range balls! Nonetheless, I highly recommend this location for those that want a great golf experience. read more

I would say this place is the Pebble Beach of executive courses. Ok...maybe not, but they keep their grounds well kept and plenty of water hazards and bunkers to make the course pretty challenging for people at the beginner level (as well as players at a slightly higher level). I work literally across the street from this place so I'm able to leave work at around quarter 'til 5 and be able to play 18 holes. I usually go on thursdays but I just got a new set of clubs and have been dying to use 'em so I decided to go today. I was able to get 18 holes in and I had as much fun as I did the first time I played on this course. So far, I'm still pretty excited about this place, but it's slowly wearing on me. As with any golfer, or anyone that gets better at something as time passes by, they'll move on to bigger and better things. When I do, I'll still look back at the $9 rounds and remember that this was the place that started it all. read more

This review is for the restaurant part of the course only. First experience in the restaurant was interesting. We were there to see a local band play. The server was so obnoxious as he was constantly bothering us to buy more food and more beers. Very pushy. He was almost acting as if he was on commission. The food was horrible. Secondly, if you care to use their overpriced driving range you may not be able to as they have one guy in a cart shagging one ball at a time. I was told they had no balls available. Weird. That happened twice and I will never go back. I'm surprised they are still in business. read more

My buddy is getting hitched next month and for his bachelor party, he wanted to go golfing. We were originally going to golf at a 9 hole course down the street, but decided to come here instead. It turned out to be a good choice. There were 4 of us and we got a large bucket of range balls, 4 rounds with carts, all for $96.00. Not too bad! This course has 4 or 5 par 4s and the rest are Par 3s. There are some challenging bunkers to avoid as well as some water, too! The only thing I didn't like was that some of the greens were either temporary ones, or they were being seeded/repaired. It made putting a bit of a challenge. Overall though, it was a good course. I would definitely come back to play another round! read more

There's a special place in my heart for this golf course. Not only was it the first course I ever played when I was 12, but it was also the home of my first job when I was 15. BUT, I still only give it three stars because it's really kinda a lame course compared to all the other courses around. But in a pinch it's a fun, short round, and I'll always have great memories of people aiming at me while driving around in that range ball cart. I broke 7 tees while trying to tee up my ball in the tee boxes. That never happens to me. The tee boxes are just incredibly hard. It's like cement after about half an inch of grass. Very difficult to tee off as well since there's so much sand or seed on the tee boxes there really isn't much grip. The course layout is much shorter than it used to be. Many holes are 75 - 90 yards on the front nine. A few of the holes on the front nine were noticeably shorter on the new layout compared to the new one. The people working there are nice... that's the only reason this isn't a 1 star review. If you fix your tee boxes where I can actually put a tee into the ground, I might come back. read more

Birch hills is a very short golf course that's good for those who are just starting out, or need some confidence in their games (aka me). I use to come here a lot when I was just a youngin, but it has since been slightly modified. The roads and practice area are a little nicer, but the course itself hasn't seemed to change much in terms of the grass condition, which is still not great. The greens are eh. Every par 3 is about 100 yds on the front nine. Number 9 isn't playing its true yardage because of green repair, just a heads up. Overall, exactly what you'd expect from a non-regulation golf course: short par 3's, short par 4's, below average grass conditions. I think it's $16 with a cart after 2 pm, and yes.. you could finish in 3-ish hours. I'd advise walking, bc it's good for your soul, and it's a pretty/really easy course to walk unless you have some noticeably low stamina. Sure, go ahead and play if you're just trying to mess around on a random weekday. read more
