It was a bit windy and we lost two menus blowing in the wind; apparently a common occurrence according to our waitress. Gorgeous harbor views for a sunset meal with lively full bar scene and abundant beverages and cocktails. Liked the coastal vibe going on with recorded music enhancing the ambiance. Lounging areas on rooftop dining. For appetizers: Roasted Mushrooms - perfection and flavorful. Roasted Chicken Wings - well seasoned and crispy, sweet and savory at same time. Absolutely loved them. Not spicy, even our 2.5 yo enjoyed the moist chicken wing, (pulled off some of the crispy seasoning for her). Would order two next time, it was that delicious! Burrata Salad - delicious cheese with the mixed greens, great for a party appetizer. Entree: Pepperoni Pizza with 8 slices. Thin crust, everyone in our party of 5 enjoyed it. Drinks: Surfside Iced Tea & Vodka - can't go wrong with that vodka Ship Bottom Mermaid Blonde - if you like a blonde ale, this is excellent! Gone Coconuts - Coconut flavor with Lavender - refreshing cocktail Price point was as expected. Nothing outrageously expensive for location but not cheap either. We stopped by on a Saturday night with no reservation and although it was packed, we were seated pretty quickly. I started with the bring back the universe cocktail which was good and came with a disco ball charm, however I didn't taste much alcohol. For food, we started with the white pie which was good but not my favorite. For entree, my friend and I split the scallops and crab cakes. It was a good thing we did because the scallop entree was very tiny. It said it came with fennel but only came with potatoes and some veggies. The crab cake entree on the other hand was delicious and very filling! It was accompanied by peppers and artichokes and in a very tasty sauce. Going in with the right expectations, this place was fantastic! You HAVE to make sure if you make reservations to do it for upstairs, otherwise you get stuck in the policy that has resulted in this brutal rating. That in mind, we did NOT make an RSVP. We came upstairs on a beautiful summer weeknight. It was packed, but we put our name on the list, had a table after a ~20 minute wait. Great view of the sunset, waitstaff was busy, but got our order in fast and food came out quickly! We were pleasantly surprised by food quality, got the shrimp toast which wasn't bad, but the corn pizza and mahi mahi sandwich were fantastic! Cocktails were ok, on the sweet side and a bit pricey even for LBI, so I would probably just do beers next time, solid beer list. Also, had live music so no complaints there. Great location. However the GM Kyle is ruining the reputation of the establishment. My 30 year old daughter did not have her license so could not drink . We respect the establishment policy . However Kyle charged at the table stating "you better not be drinking". This resulted in her 2 year old to cry because he scared him. He then looked at me and said "you better be drinking that wine". I rarely post negative reviews, but our recent experience at Bird & Betty's was so unpleasant that I feel it should be shared. We arrived for our 8:30 PM dinner reservation during our family vacation, expecting a nice evening. When I approached the podium and told the "security" that we had a reservation, a young woman immediately looked past me, pointed at my family, and in a very rude tone began asking, "Is she 21? Is he 21? Is she 21?"--while pointing directly at my kids. Not only was this inappropriate and unprofessional, but the way it was handled was completely disrespectful. A courteous approach would have been to explain the situation to me first, rather than pointing at my children as if they were a problem. When I tried to clarify by saying, "I have a reservation for dinner," she cut me off and said, "You don't ask the questions, I do!" At no point was it explained in a respectful manner that there was a special event that night and that anyone under 21 needed to be out by 10 PM. Since our reservation was well before that, this rule was irrelevant--but the lack of basic courtesy ruined the experience before it even began. We came for dinner, not to be treated like unwelcome guests. Bird & Betty's may work for others, but based on this encounter, we won't be returning and cannot recommend it to families looking for a respectful and professional dining experience. read more

Drinks and food.. legit everywhere! I killed about 10 of them. It was so gross. My friend said his order wasn't hot enough but declined to make waves cuz he was famished. My order took a half hour and it was just a salad. Food is ok. The kitchen needs to be more organized. The rooftop is really nice, they had a DJ playing music and all of the staff was super friendly. I had the tuna and it was very tasty and fresh. It went perfectly with the vinegary bean salad and fresh pita. They cocktails were awesome - there is a huge variety so guaranteed something for everyone. After hearing so much about this restaurant, I'm glad I finally was able to check it out on my visit to LBI. I also completely understand the hype. The restaurant is absolutely huge - with a deck upstairs with bay-side views and a very large first-level main room where my friends and I were seated. It was very crowded when we arrived at 7pm on a Saturday, so we were nestled away at a table next to a bustling bar. We started the evening off with 6 oysters on the half shell, which were paired with some tartar sauce and lemon. They were fresh and absolutely delicious - a perfect appetizer to share with a group. For our meals, we ordered lobster rolls and a fried chicken sandwich. The lobster roll was good (but doesn't beat a New England lobster roll), and the fried chicken sandwich was very fresh and filling. The side of fries (which we had to substitute for an extra cost) were pretty standard in terms of taste, but the portions were substantial. Overall, I was pretty happy with the dining experience and overall atmosphere of this bustling Beach Haven restaurant. read more

New way to start in this one. The view exceptional. Perfect view from almost every table except for mine and I picked mine because I didn't want to be in the sun and they were pretty busy. And the hostess still apologized. She was very sweet . It's Friday night in the summer and they are busy. It's a beautiful day and our waitress is killing it. But yet very attentive and refilled our water bottle multiple times. The layout of the resturant is great. Not sure about the velvet rope and security thing and all. But if that's what they want, fine. Upstairs is really cool flow. Our food was better than good. It's not fine dining but it is really good. Shishito peppers were awesome. Ceviche was huge but the short rib disco fries were insanely good. How the fries stayed crisp with all that stuff on it I have no idea. The meatballs were average. I expect more from New Jersey just by being so close to New York. But I think they might have been a little over cooked or the sauce was a little burnt. But they were fine. So now to the service. And a message to all the low reviews on service. Look around our table was touched by at least 5 people. Everyone is working hard. They are moving fast and I have seen everyone smile. Yes it's loud it's Friday evening. And there is a great bar. But the staff is attentive and hard working. Add a little more to your tip and a little less Erin our waitress is awesome. But come see her soon before she heads back to teaching. She smiled the entire night and managed more tables then most could. Update. RESERVATION WARNING! I had made a reservation for the Thursday before July 4th (the 3rd). My family was visiting us on LBI from Arizona so I chose to bring them here. We arrive early, 6pm for a 630pm reservation. I walk to the hostess and check in. She tells me my table is ready and I request to be seated up top - to have a bay view for my family. She informs me that this area is not for reservations- first come first served area only. I say okay no problem we can wait for a table up top. She informs me that if I do that, that she'll have to charge me a $25 per person cancellation fee for my reservation. I say, "What???? You mean to tell me that if I go upstairs, I'm still eating in your establishment, you're going to charge me $100????" ... she tells me - yes. At this point an older adult woman says to me, "well did you read the rules in the reservation? They're very clear", I replied, "Why, no, I didn't read the fine print!" I then ask- "are you the manager??", she replies, "yes". I say, "Can I ask your name?", she replies, "Melanie", to which I say, "You're the owner, correct?" She begrudgingly replies to me, "yes". Weren't get seated up top, yet on the ground level, by the cars. Well I could clearly see the line of people waiting for ANY open table. The food is so-so. The server was excellent. Sadly, this is just BAD business on the owners part. To tell me if I chose to wait for a view, STILL eat in the restaurant, I'd be charged $100... wow. Just wow. What kind of restaurant does this??? This is the hot spot of LBI-the must see place, and where you wanna go for good food, good service, and a great view. Looking out to that breathtaking view, you can't help but be happy! We made a large-group reservation for 5:00pm and we're seated right away. We requested a table upstairs, and were offered a shaded table (bench seats in the back by the bar) or a sunny seat (in the front on the deck by the fire pits). We went for the covered bench table, but could have been equally as comfortable under the umbrellas out on the overlook. There is security at the front door to check all IDs using a scanning machine and visual inspection and if you are above the age of 21, you get a wristband. Then again when you are seated, your waitress will re-check your ID to ensure everyone served is of legal age. We started off with a round of drinks for the table. Although a little disappointing they were out of a few important ingredients to make some of their signature cocktails, we tried an array of their menu and were all pleased with our choices. We were all very intrigued by the "Wake The Dead" which is basically an espresso martini with tequila but sadly this was not available tonight. Favorites at the table were the frozen "blue crush" which looked like a movie theater slushee, but tasted great and also the straight up martinis. After coming here a few times and trying several items on the menu, I have to say their pizzas are just out of this world! Of course we had our usual clam pizza (a MUST try if you've never had, no one does it quite like BAB's on the island), and we added the new peach and arugula pie, and a classic pepperoni - all three were devoured in minutes. We were informed upon ordering these pizzas that since there is a separate pizza kitchen, the pizza comes when it comes and may be before or after other entrees, but we lucked out and everything came around the same time! We also enjoyed some shishito peppers (paired with Betty's sauce - so good!), fried artichokes (tossed with lump crab and pimento sauce - wow!), and BL scallops (over a bed of perfectly seasoned risotto). The table also split fried calamari, little neck clams, and perfectly crispy French fries. The entire night, we enjoyed live music at a very reasonable volume - loud enough to hear but quiet enough to still chit chat. Both the waitresses and bartenders alike were super friendly and understanding of our large group. The ambiance is unbeatable here, so much so that I think you should go here over absolutely ANYWHERE else in LBI! I'm sure I will be back again even this same week. read more

Went last night as we do every year. Party of 11 spent over $500 on our meal. Made a reservation months in advance. Upon arrival a 22 year old in our party was almost denied entry - the bouncer had to confirm his identity via instagram. We sat down ate service was ok. We then decided to stay for the band. One of the patrons in our party ordered a $4 green tea shot at the bar and was attempting to pour it into their Surfside. When the security guard grabbed him by the neck and threw him out claiming that he brought a drink in from the outside or a bottle when the shot was clearly just purchased at the bar.
